La Cosmopolita

"Situated in the heart of the old town, this restaurant is striking for its rustic and vintage-style decor. Fun, market-inspired cuisine centred on Andalucian ingredients with an exotic touch. Pleasant terrace." - Michelin Inspector

In Málaga, the Past—and Picasso—Shape Its Culturally-Rich Present

"A local chef, Carnero trained with Martín Berasategui, Ferran Adrià and Manolo de la Osa before opening La Cosmopolita, also in the historical center."

Wonderful small restaurant in the centre. Very accomodating. They moved us to a different table due to my father wanting to sit inside even though they were busy. Food was exceptional. If you like oysters and fancy trying something extra indulgent get the special. I can also not recommend enough, trying the iberico pork pluma, I wish we had ordered two.

La Cosmopolita delivers excellence in every dish. The freshness of the ingredients is immediately apparent, elevating the flavors to perfection. The Ensaladilla Rusa strikes a flawless balance, while the Bone Marrow, seasoned simply with salt and roasted, is a masterclass in minimalism. The accompanying crackers and shrimp tartare create a pairing that enhances the dish brilliantly. The pork loin, cooked medium and sprinkled with salt flakes, harmonizes beautifully with shiitake mushrooms, rounding off an unforgettable meal. Every dish was executed without imperfections. Service was outstanding—attentive, professional, and seamless. 👌

Food was pretty good overall. Highlights included the crab omelette which was bursting with rich flavours and the squid with onion. The cheese was very dry, stale and disappointing. Nice atmosphere and setting in the outdoor terrace. The service was below average and dragged down the overall experience. The waiters were not very helpful or attentive or attuned to the needs of the customers, and seemed more interested in chatting and interacting with each other. For example, our waitress declined to offer any recommendations “since the menu changes regularly” - signalling a lack of knowledge about what was on the menu. At times the waitress was also grumpy and abrupt. For example, she tried to grab a plate off my friend while she was still eating from it. When my friend objected, saying she was not finished, the waiter dismissed the request and responded in a grumpy and annoyed tone that she “needed to change the plates”. Clearly the needs of the waitress are more important than the needs of the customer.

The food was absolutely a fraud. The prices were ridiculously high compared to the quality of the dishes. The flavors were nothing crazy, everybody could have recreate them at home even better. The service was also not okay, but I won’t spend too much effort to talk about the lady wanting to take away the plates while we were still eating. The problem is that in a Michelin guide restaurant the expectations are high, and in this restaurant we remained disappointed. Ps: 7€ for 2 anchovies??

A huge disappointment. After travelling across Andalucía for 2 weeks, I booked this place to nicely conclude the holiday - expecting superior experience to local tabernas with a recommendation from Michelin Guide. The service was horrible - due to an unfriendly and unwelcoming blonde lady serving the outside area (and unfortunately us as well). She set the tone by being annoyed that we were 2, while she prepared table for 1 (per my booking, it was for 2). She sat us right by the plate and cutlery station while there were other nicer tables at that time available - while we hesitated to sit down glancing at other tables, she just threw a cold comment to us “All tables are booked out”. First of all, I struggle to imagine all customers that have not come in picked their specific tables ahead. Secondly, there is a nicer way to communicate the same message to at least pretend to care. While I speak Spanish and enjoy it, she forcefully spoke English all the way and gave us English menus - without asking for our preference. Lastly, the moment we were done with eating a dish, she would stand next to us ready to jump to take the plates away, as if she wanted us to leave. Note that I have not made any comment to her about her service level, hoping she would improve, hence not giving her a reason to behave like this. Other members of the staff seemed intimidated or inexperienced except for one older gentleman behaving oddly happy and confidently, as if oblivious to the situation that there was a lot of negative tension between the staff that evening (they stood right behind us chatting which I understood). As we did not feel welcome, we decided to order 2 mains and order more only if we were served better during the course of the dinner, which did not happen. We tried crab meat tortilla and their classic calamar dish. They were both just okay - nothing exquisite nor superior in quality, we tasted better food in local restaurants and tabernas around the region for less than half price. A warning sign for me was also that tortilla arrived right after we ordered which makes me doubt how fresh all the preparation was and did not give any time to slowly enjoy wine. To conclude, I ate in many Michelin Guide and 1-3 starred Michelin restaurants - 90% of times being happy to pay more for a superior food and service. It was the opposite with La Cosmopolita.

Absolutely love this place. We have been on three or four occasions over the years and the food is aways original and delicious. Latest visit was June 2025. Sweetbreads were the standout dish. Perfectly tender with a fantastic crisp finish. As usual, our host was Victor. Perfect service, and wine, and food advice. We will be back every time we are in Malaga.

Excellent modern interpretation of classic dishes and terrific quality local food made with seasonal ingredients. Found everything to be delicious. Especially loved the callos, as it's a lovely interpretation of an 'old fashioned' dish. The mollete stole the show too, the tuna was stunning quality. A very nice meal for 2 for a very reasonable €82 and would recommend totally for a higher end dining experience in Málaga

Very disappointed in the whole experiece. We sat and at a table outside, the waitress served people at the next table, did not see us, did not great us. Eventually she gave us menus, one in English, one in Spanish. Guess what? The dishes are not translated in the same order…I thought I ordered something, was delivered an entirely different meal, that was undercooked, my friend got calamari that were not cleaned properly on the inside. When she checked on us, she noticed that both of us barely touched the food, however she did not care to take it off the bill, not offer us to order something else. They serve you bread “on the house” but it actually costs 1,5 euro. The complementary olives were very good. I would never expect this kind of service from a 4.4 star review restaurant with table cloth. Don t recommend.
