The 7 Best Crawfish Restaurants In Austin

"With almost two dozen locations across the state, LA Crawfish isn’t exactly some local hidden secret. But with only one location in a South Austin shopping mall, it’s not the most well-known, either. The specialty here is Viet-Cajun-style crawfish, and you can get a very good version here—with a generous amount of heat to complement all the sweet and buttery garlic. But our favorite seasoning here is the Sichuan-style (when it’s available). Partially because it’s not a style we see a lot of in Austin, but also because we can’t get enough of the spicy, mouth-numbing peppercorns on everything. " - nicolai mccrary

Thanks for the detailed feedback — here’s a professionally written version of your review that captures your disappointment clearly but constructively: ⸻ A Decline in Quality — Disappointed Regular I used to love this place, especially their Salt and Toasted Shrimp — it was always flavorful, crispy, and well-seasoned, thanks in large part to the tall manager from 2021 or 2022 who clearly knew how to run the kitchen. Unfortunately, the quality has gone downhill since his absence. Over my last five visits (both dine-in and delivery), the shrimp has gone from my favorite dish to something I can barely recognize. What used to be a perfectly seasoned dish with crisp veggies like peppers and onions has turned into plain, greasy fried shrimp with zero flavor and no vegetables. It’s honestly frustrating — the seasoning is completely off, and it looks and tastes like it was cooked in old oil. I kept giving them chances, hoping it was just a bad day, but today was the final straw. If anything, with rising prices, I’d expect the quality to remain consistent — not deteriorate. I’m taking a long break from this place. I hope they reevaluate their kitchen standards and possibly reconnect with the leadership that made them great in the past. ⸻ Would you like me to adjust the tone to be more casual, more formal, or even more direct? The first pic is what you get today, the second pic is what you USE to get

Google
I got the magic Cajun rice. Crawfish and added sausage. I could literally count on one hand how many pieces of crawfish was in it. The flavor was there. But for $17 it's a no go. Alot of rice. SMH!!

Google
As soon as I came in and was eyeing the drink menu, the staff started to suggest different drinks that they loved! I love that kind of service! Also, I love that they have customizable boils, with a list of things you can add on!

Google
The best crawfish boil in town! Had to come back for 2nd time just one day later! I like their garlic butter flavor.

Tim Howard

Google
The staff is very friendly and there to accommodate. The menu needs to be written better to make it an easier read. The magic rice was good but the cajun curry dish was made perfect. Ask for extra spicy. Nice and clean restaurant.

Wow, this is a hidden gem! Prices are so reasonable. I had the awesome garlic noodles it’s a must-have! We tried the cheesy seafood rolls 10/10 everything was so good and we had great, fast service, certainly will be back to try their seafood boil.

Google
WHELP it finally happened! I finally got to a place i really wanted to eat at, because i have been here before and i absolutely love the food, only to find out i do not have enough to tip. I was devastated. However, our server was not. She actually was amazing throughout our entire experience. She made us feel like family. From the complimentary butter, to the oh so properly dressed drinks, she was 100% on point. And i did not tip. My goodness i felt like royalty with the level of service that this server/bartender was able to provide. Almost immediately upon entering we were greeted with a coloring page for our child. Now that is top tier. ALSO, i was otw to the bathroom, the same server looks down the hallway and says the code for the door! I didn’t even know about the keypad! This woman was on top of absolutely everything! I absolutely love this place and cannot wait to come back to make up for my misdeed.

Yelp
Quietly some of the best wings and crawfish in Austin. The pho is delicious and the staff is friendly. The owner really cares about the environment and the quality of the food

Yelp
Ordered takeout I had crawfish and mussels in my order. Ngl this was a huge disappointment for me. told me over the phone the crawfish were live Cons - dead crawfish - small crawfish - small mussels - overcooked, how i can tell is that the mussels were super tiny pro sauce was good for them hence the 2 stars would i recommend this again? nope drive up to north lamar and go for kicking crab and all the others, much more worth it for the same price

Yelp
It was my first time trying it out and I thought the boils would come ready made with corn, potatoes, sausage like usual but the menu doesn't state it's not included. It's an upcharge to add it separately. I was a bit thrown off by that and didn't quite know what to order. The lady who was taking my order was frustrated and offered me no suggestions or help at all. I felt uncomfortable and just randomly ordered some fried rice I saw and got shrimp added. The shrimp was overcooked however but, the fried rice had a good flavor with chopped white and green onions which added some nice crunch to the dish. It's a casual spot to grab some seafood. I tasted some of the crawfish and crab and it was cooked well but could've used a more fragrant flavoring of garlic and spices.

Yelp
When I ordered last year through DoorDash or UberEats (can't remember) but everything was perfect; but when I ordered crawfish this year, they were soooo tiny I couldn't even enjoy them. It was more of a task than eating crawfish already is and for the price I would rather frozen but everything else was cool

Qa Z.

Yelp
They don't have a bathroom specifically for guys, but they have one specifically for women. How convenient!

Yelp
Service was fast and friendly but the food was unacceptable!!!!! Run run run , i sit at the bar and u could see part of the kitchen and it look like people jus playing around! , i order 4 iteams each one was NOTcook properly the lobster was mushy uncook/ raw i had to send it back .. the pho was super oily with uncook shrimp and crawfish inside of it , clams was superr hard and burnt i felt something wasnt going to be right, the next morning i woke up sick went to the hospital and found out i had shellfish poisoning.. i hope the owner takes more time looking over the kitchen staff its a big hazard in the kitchen i was in the hospital for two weeks!!! I willl never eat here again or recommend anyone to come here.

Yelp
**DO NOT EAT HERE** If you want buffet style small carb legs for $$$, you come to the right place. I paid about $30 for 1.5-2 lbs of carb legs. LITERALLY gave me 1 1/2 small carb legs with nothing else. Adding corn or potatoes is extra. Everything was overcooked, the crawfish had no flavor. SKIP coming here and choose somewhere else to go.

Alexander F.

Yelp
The food was great I got fried shrimp with a side of sweet potato fries, my wife got crawfish pho with lemon pepper shrimp. Service was great, they didn't have the beer I asked for but she was fast to recommend an alternative. The ambient was great they had great music going on in the background.
google avatar

Yelp
We came today for pho. It was decent, but on the blander side compared to a "pho restaurant". (Also came with tripe that wasn't stated on the menu). The staff was friendly and my only complaint at the establishment is that they do not have pho spoons, only regular large silver spoons that make scooping up your noodles and drinking the broth difficult. We ordered some boiled shrimp to take home and I had high hopes, even after reading bad reviews prior to visiting. The shrimp was super mushy and had a weird coating on it, maybe the clarified butter that had cooled too much? Either way after reading how many people said they got sick and had the same experience we decided not to eat it. I've been to one in Houston and really enjoyed it, but I think this place if def for eating at the restaurant, not for take home or delivery.

Yelp
First time to order from this place, so we ordered a catfish Poboy and a shrimp Poboy. We ate every bit of it including all the fries. Next time I order and I will be ordering again. I'm gonna recommended to all my coworkers that practice Lent on Fridays. The catfish Poboy definitely is a better choice than what we are offered at my job location like I said we will be ordering again. We will try different things off the menu as we go. The portion size were very appropriate and filling.

Yelp
Very polite young man welcomed me for takeout. I ordered the 'Awesome Garlic Noodles' - EXCELLENT! The noodles of great texture. Shrimp was juicy, big & plump. Many pieces of crawfish, succulent sausages & flavor filled broth! Overall goodness, plenty. Can't wait to go back and try something new! Pleasant surprise.

Yelp
I just love the crawfish here . I just hate I have to drive so far a lil expensive yes . They need 1 in Killeen !!

Yelp
Chill vibes inside. Cashier was really nice and quick. Personable. I did like the Cajun rice dish but wish there was an option to add more crawfish or have a combination rice. Wish the crawfish were bigger too, actually. Still it's quick and easy on the go.

Yelp
The first time it was good so I decided to go a second time I was disappointed that the crawfish were dirty it seemed like they didn't care and that's why I wouldn't be back it made me sick.

Jose Alberto A.

Yelp
I went in for lunch today and ordered a pound of crawfish and ordered it extra spicy and ooh boy was it spicy. So much so that I ended up not being able to handle it. I accepted my fate but the waiter ended up passing by and noticed I hadn't really eaten much of the dish. I mentioned the spice level and immediately she offered to take it back and fix it. She didn't have to do that and made my experience that much better.
google avatar

Heath F.

Yelp
Had never eaten here or even heard of this place before, so I gave it a try. Went in and quickly picked the crawfish Poboy from the menu. Sat down and first noticed that the floor was very sticky. Then, when I leaned forward onto my table, the table, almost collapsed. I quickly figured out that it was just broken, so I moved to another table. The Poboy was fresh and pretty tasty, and the french fries were fresh and also pretty good. Didn't care for the slaw on top of the Poboy because it was so vinegary. Overall, everything was MYEH. I would not return, but because the food was good they get three stars.

Yelp
Fool me once... Ordered a pound of the shrimp delivered, showed up under cooked, mushy, soggy, inedible, you can try and boil it longer but seafood is a different beast than other meat, once it's screwed up it's pretty unsalvageable. Figured maybe they were just in a hurry, idk, I guess they think the food will magically cook on the way to you, same result, the shrimp was like some disgusting seafood pudding/paste. Shame on me for giving the place a second chance, you couldn't pay me to order anything from here a third time.

Mariah A.

Yelp
I always enjoy the food here and recently had a great customer service experience with them helping me out with a payment issue.
google avatar

Bill G.

Yelp
I had high hopes. Nope! I will not be back!! The store was dirty and by this I mean the staff left tables with trash on them and the floors were sticky. Now the food rant. I ordered three items and all were just a bad experience for me. I had the bbq shrimp, a bowl of gumbo and an order of some seafood egg rolls. The shrimp were way over cooked and inedible. The egg rolls were a mistake and the gumbo actually has chunks of crab shell in it. I ate a few shrimp as I could barely get the shell off, I drank the gumbo broth and forced myself to eat the egg rolls. I didn't want to throw away $30 worth of food so I managed. Watch out for that gumbo. I was shocked to bite down and then get that feeling like you broke a tooth. That is all!

Yelp
Fantastic to-go magic rice with crawfish and crawfish empanadas-great flavour and generous portions-looking forward to dining in!

Kean S.

Yelp
Tiny little crawfish abdomens - most of the weight is uneatable, head and thorax. The service is slow. The washrooms antiquated and require a push code to enter.

Yelp
If you are the owner of this establishment, please have a talk with your chefs and your employees. If I'm working at the cash register and my family has owned three restaurants, and there are dirty dishes sitting on tables you bet I will clean them up as soon as possible because there is nothing worse than a customer walking in and seeing that. I would highly suggest you talk to your kitchen staff and taste their cooking. OK let me start by saying I eat at LA crawfish at the 99 ranch market in Houston Texas. I'm accustomed to their taste. What I experienced at this location was dreadful. I walked in there were seven tables that were still dirty from previous diners. There was only two other tables, so I don't understand why seven tables were left dirty. It was not that busy. Secondly the photo of the gumbo didn't look like it was dark roux, I asked the young lady if there's anyway she can just give me a tiny sample because I want to make sure it's the right roux and it's dark. She assured me that it was dark because I guess she didn't want to give me a tiny sample just to look at it. Let me tell you, the only other time I have eaten horrific gumbo was this past week in Corpus Christi. I looked at her when she brought out the gumbo, the rue was nowhere and you're dark it was watery. There was I don't know if it was some sort of chicken neck or turkey neck in there. I understand we all come from different places but the gumbo I'm a custom to are made from people in Louisiana with very dark roux and a thicker consistency. This honestly just taste like some sort of soup. They had thrown clap clusters in there. I couldn't eat it. I ate four spoonful and I left it. That was how bad it was. I ordered the 2 pounds of Cajun mild. Added corn and mushrooms. Now in my experience when I order mushrooms they're usually the small slices and I get an abundance of them. But for $.89, I guess I can't complain. Four mushrooms came out and they're the kind that you buy at the grocery market the white ones. They didn't even seem cooked. Just seemed like they just threw it in the batter. I did get a free potato. But I don't even eat potatoes. Now let me tell you, I was sorely disappointed when I checked the first Crawfish because the tail seem a bit mushy. Another one. Another one. And as it turns out majority of the crawfish I ate were mushy and dark inside's. There were two big ones every other one was a small one and some were barely medium size. Once again disappointment sets in because I bit into the meat. Absolutely no flavor. I suck the head of the non-dark ones absolutely no flavor. I don't know what the chefs were doing in the kitchen but there were no flavor in the crawfish. I didn't even finish my crawfish. I asked her for to go bag So I can Bagget up and go home and correct the crawfish. But then I decided I couldn't even do that because the crawfish half of them were like I said dark on the inside and mushrooms

Bernie F.

Yelp
Po boy subpar. Bread is crouton like in hardness and crayfish is like it is reheated
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
The crawfish here is not fresh at all. I couldn't eat any of it. Every single crawfish I opened was spoiled. It was really gross. I don't know where they're getting their crawfish from but it's not good.
google avatar

Matheo V.

Yelp
First time here, for a place called "la crawfish". This wasn't good at all. The crawfish was not fresh, and you could tell some of them were dead when boiled. Paid $70 for 4 pounds. I left most of them untouched. Not coming back.

Shajod Z.

Yelp
NEVER AGAIN!!! Rusty Paper towel holder and Rusty buckets on the tables. Try to pull out the plastic bag in the bucket and you will see what I am talking about Improve your sanitation. From kitchen, Rest room, floors, and tables. Food was good as always but the hesitation of enjoying the food because of the cleanliness situation of the restaurant.
google avatar

Ciera E.

Yelp
This is my SPOT! I really love how fast their service is :) The Magic Cajun Rice is my absolute favorite and I am always in the mood for it, it's that good! Really good food!

Nubia R.

Yelp
The food was actually really good. Given the reviews I was a bit hesitant but I literally can not say anything except we enjoyed our dinner. Great portions for the price. We had the cheesy seafood rolls, seafood boil with all the fixings and add ins along with a shrimp po boy. Everything was seasoned well and made to order. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 start is because there was a few menu items I wanted to try that weren't available.

Ellie H.

Yelp
We got a seafood boil. The worst part of our dinner was that they had no scissors or tools for our shellfish. Only 3 or 4 other tables were occupied so being told that they were out of scissors was surprising. They didn't provide gloves, plates, or place mats so the 4 of us cracking crab legs with our teeth was especially messy! Most of the food was tasty except the potatoes were very bland and we had to dig to the bottom of the bowl for any seasoning. There also were lots of rocks in the seasoning I'm assuming from the clams. We didn't find the experience to be worth the price.
google avatar

Ana M.

Yelp
Was here last week by chance and omg best little accidental find. Chill vibe, delicious food, employees were really nice and helpful in ordering. Overall at 10/10 parking sucks but that's not their fault the whole lot is a mess. Maybe I'm a little biased because I've never had crawfish before but this was for sure a great introduction to it

Alan O.

Yelp
If you're a seafood lover this is the spot. Menu items are the real deal, the flavors are explosive, and the servings are well proportioned. They even have pho. Don't expect a fine dining experience, this is a down to earth spot where the magic is in the food.
google avatar

Kristina K.

Yelp
I've been here at least 6 times and it'd always consistently good. It definitely looks like a cheap little hole in the wall chain but I'm telling you it's better than it looks. Our favorite is the shrimp in cajun garlic butter. Make sure to add potatoes, sausage and egg for the complete experience.
google avatar

Kim-Jamy N.

Yelp
As a houston native that was raised on Asian Cajun or Viet Cajun cuisine - I love crawfish. The months of March to may are my favorite bc it's crawfish season! So far it's been hit or miss. The first time we came here - they had live crawfish and we ordered garlic butter hot and garlic butter medium. It was so spicy, amazing and saucy! Exactly like how I remembered the other LA crawfish I've been too. I stopped by yesterday and got the same exact order. This time - the spicy/hot and medium tasted like straight garlic butter with no spice and no sauce. For $60, I thought "what a waste of money." When I asked the servers for limes, the guy pointed to a bowl which literally had ONE slice of lime in it. The service and crawfish is hit or miss. I need consistency.
google avatar

Joli G.

Yelp
Please remove the onions from your sauce; it used to be perfect and now the mushy shrimp with overcooked onions in the sauce just isn't giving Cajun. It was mostly oil and mush. In the past I've had great food here but now it seems like they have a new chef or something. Anyways they are really nice people but one pound of shrimp for $18 after tip-I'm really disappointed and will not be going back again.
google avatar

Bonnie S.

Yelp
This was a horrible experience. The place just opened and complained about the shrimp being raw and my order of wings they gave me was not sweet and spicy. I understand that due to covid they were short staffed. The person helping us came to the table to ask if he could make us those 2 things again, once he saw I was taking the pictures. I asked to credit my card, they gave me cash for the po- boy I ordered and didn't credit the wings. I am a person that does not like to post bad experiences but this was uncalled for. This is seafood and and it needs to be cooked correctly otherwise someone will end up in the hospital with food poisoning.
google avatar

Ally H.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great environment, juicy flavor, overall GREAT. I do wanna try the PHO next time
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
This restaurant in Austin is a Cajun inspired. Both times I went here the place was empty between 6 pm and 8 pm. The wood tables have what looks a trash can to hold the shells of the crawfish. There is a roll of paper towels on the table if things get messy. They also have plastic bibs if things get really messy. I had the fried crawfish and waffle fries. It was decent. Maybe next time I will try the crawfish platter. The service here I found to be average.

Ava R.

Yelp
best crawfish ever ! service was great and the music is very fun! definitely going to be coming back to LA crawfish!!
google avatar

Joshua C.

Yelp
Amazing place to eat at, not "LA" but it's close enough. The crawfish was good and the shrimp was even better. The snow crab was juicy and the seasoning was on point . I would recommended coming here if are a foodie for crawfish. The price isn't that bad for Cajun sea food. Also 6 dollar minchilada??? You can't beat that . Will definitely be coming back !!! Thanks guys
google avatar

Tony P.

Yelp
I was craving a seafood boil and this was available on door dash. Shrimp: pretty good. Flavors were delicious. I got the spicy level which was way too spicy for me. Pho: I thought they would incorporate more of the seafood flavors into the pho but this was just meh. Nothing special. Also, when you pack pho, you should store the broth separately otherwise the noodles soak up all the broth like leaving a marshmallow in hot chocolate for too long. Price: way too expensive for what it is.
google avatar

Courtney R.

Yelp
Ehhhh I will stick to H-towns LA Crawfish bc there was a piece of tree bark/leaf or something that doesn't belong in a boil left in my boil bag. There was hair on a few of my crawfish and I was NOT feeling that at all, this turned up at the end of my feast of crawfish grossed me out as I got to the 3rd piece of what appeared to be hair. It was even a piece in my crabs. Now one could say it was seaweed but we all know that crawfish do not come from the sea soooo yea...blonde brownish and black hair....yea NOPE I am good on that! They forgot my pan and my extra sauce so that was a bummer. The wings were really flavorful but not cooked long enough...ewwww! $60 and not satisfied. I could've just drove to Houston as far as I drove....seriously yall put some hair nets on or something please bc the food is good but that hair will gross out folks to NO RETURN literally!
google avatar

Sonia P.

Yelp
My husband and I were very impressed! Food is delicious!! We ordered crawfish and shrimp with sausage, potatoes & corn. It is a little pricey, we got fries with wings for our son with a side of fries that cost $4.99 (just the fries) wings weren't bad but I just think the price for those wings is crazy. Also, I didn't like that you don't have a server. You have to go up to order and if you need anything else you have to get up yourself and get it. That's all. But we will definitely be back.
google avatar

Jessreen P.

Yelp
The crawfish and shrimp never fail!!! So darn good!! I suggest to get the garlic butter and cajun as your sauce.
google avatar

Just J.

Yelp
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME...i told the lady this doesn't look like a pound she replied "it's not a pound, it's a 12 count" but they sell shrimp PER POUND"..please don't waste your time.
google avatar

Holly Z.

Yelp
I went during dinner time and it wasn't busy. All the tables have disposable table covers. I probably won't be coming back to this restaurant. The Cajun flavor was okay. Half of the crawfish I ate isn't fresh. Feels like all the seasoning or the flavor was on the shells and the actual crawfish itself is flavorless. I tried their new flavor Szechuan. Definitely gives you that numbness but it's not spicy. They added a lot of soy sauce. Chicken bites were extremely salty!

AJ A.

Yelp
Awesome spot. Counter service with a very friendly staff & quick flavorful food. Will be back to try the soups, we saw another table get them and they looked fantastic. Clean restaurant is always a plus. Fun & creative menu.
google avatar

Cassidy S.

Yelp
I will preface this by saying I grew up eating crawfish and have never dealt with this. Their crawfish made me physically ill. It tasted off when it was first brought to our table, but i thought they might have just not been purged before boiling. I only had a few before I just gave up. The more I poked around, the more I realized most of them had been dead before they even hit the boil. I thought that if i stopped eating them after a few bites, i would be spared but clearly not. I did not want to spend my day having food poisoning from crawfish but here we are. Please revisit how you prepare them or you will keep making people sick.
google avatar

Yelp
Very cool atmosphere. We were excited it was byob Food was needing tons of TLC. No flavor at all. I had crawfish pho, it was ok, but had no crawfish flavor or Cajun I should flavor like I expected. Also ordered blue crab, very un flavorful, we got spicy Cajun but it seemed like all we could taste was the meat like if it had been boiled in water only. I'll give it time before I return, maybe it is the fact that it just opened and they're working the kinks out ‍
