The Most Romantic Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"For sheer ambiance and intimate charm, it’s hard to beat longtime favorite La Crepe Nanou. Nestled on an Uptown side street like a Parisian beacon, the dining room is unlike any other in town, quirky and cozy while still being elegant. Then there’s the food, a menu of shareable French bistro classics like mussels, escargot, fondue, and an excellent Nicoise. Casual enough for a weekday date night but special enough for a celebratory weekend evening, be sure to make reservations." - Clair Lorell

The Best French Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"A romantic neighborhood French bistro and Uptown crêperie since 1983, La Crêpe Nanou oozes charm. One of the few spots in town to get tender veal sweetbreads, these come with a lemon caper beurre blanc sauce. Try the lamb chops in cognac reduction or make a meal of crepes, savory and sweet. The crepes Nanou is the perfect combination of vanilla, coffee, and chocolate flavors, studded with crunchy toasted almonds." - Beth D’Addono

Very Cool Joint!! My first time trying the Escargots De Bourgogne (Snails baked in garlic parsley butter) and I was hooked!! Man that was so good!! Went there for a birthday dinner and everything was great!! The crepes were incredible too!!

Google
Wow. What a pleasant surprise. The restaurant looks small from the outside but can sit quite a lot. Reservations are needed. Casual dress. Got there at 5:15pm and by 6p it was packed Adequate parking at businesses across the street that are close in evening. Entrance is on corner of building and not the 2 large doors that I tried to use. We had the salmon and shrimp dishes and saved the crepes for dessert. Food was excellent. Server was pleasant and seemed to enjoy her job…very attentive. Loved the colors and different decor areas you could sit. Definitely recommend. Also had French onion soup, escargots, salad and a few drinks…around $70 per person.

Google
Loved the interior, felt like I was in another country, staff was over the top nice. We ordered the fondue , it was incredible, we also ordered a crab crepe and shared it, wasn't what I expected, a little bland, just needed some seasoning. We ordered the French onion soup each, my favorite, was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Willvreturn.

Google
La Crêpe Nanou has been one of my absolute favorite restaurants for years, and I’m giving it five stars because the food and experience are consistently excellent. They have the absolute best French onion soup and steak frites in New Orleans, hands down. That said, I was really disappointed by how our recent visit ended. We spent over $200 on dinner, and I was surprised and embarrassed to find a $15 “cake fee” on the bill, even though the staff had suggested we bring a dessert when I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. We brought four small petit fours, not a full cake. On top of that, there was a $9.06 “convenience fee” that was never mentioned. That’s $24 in surprise charges. I’ll absolutely be back because I love this place, but it didn’t feel great to be hit with hidden fees, especially as a loyal customer. I hope they’ll be more transparent about these kinds of charges going forward.

Google
Always a go-to whenever I’m in town. Our server was a sweetie, our food was delish, and I wanted my dessert so badly I forgot to take a photo! We had the crawfish crepe and the lamb chops. Both were perfect. (Sad they no longer have the aioli sauce though!), followed by the chocolate mousse. Note: The fondue IS yummy but we had that last year and ended up having no room for dessert!

Drew Morock

Google
Went for my wife’s birthday. The food was excellent, as always, but the service and atmosphere were so atrocious we couldn’t make it to dessert. It was as though they just forgot about us once our table was almost ready. Will think long and hard before we return.

Google
Crepe perfection. We popped by for apps and desert, specifically. I haven't had fondue in a while... this one was pretty good. The fondue was tasty enough although I feel like it could've been creamier. We decided to try one of each crepe. The chocolate was definitely the best. Paired it all with a lovely French Chardonnay. Our server was really awesome. We enjoyed everything on the patio - it made for a great Sunday afternoon stop. **Get the Escargot, they were fantastic.

Ana Guevara

Google
The ambiance is great, the place is very pretty, the staff was courteous and very helpful. The crab sauce was excellent although the crepes were a bit thick and overcooked both for my entree and dessert. Two other people at the table enjoyed their salads very much.

Yelp
Roaches on the floor. Made a reservation but wasn't seated until after 40 minutes from our reservation time.

Yelp
This is an amazing French Bistro that as its namesake indicates offers crêpes along with other traditional French bistro fare. They offer good seafood options along with a delicious selection of expected bistro options. You can also find some nice desserts along with good cheese selections. They have a selection of quality wine, liquor and beer. They have a daily specials board and recently they have been featuring a burger which is quite nicely done. The ambiance is quite simply magically fantastic at times while the service is usually on point they do have hiccups occasionally depending on the server. They used to be open a bit later than some other options but these days they close rather early. You used to be able to enjoy a nice Sunday Brunch here but they are not doing that these days. This is certainly a marvelous place to bring a date for an enjoyable evening. Fun Fact: I don't particularly care for crêpes and I've tried them in multiple places and flavors in France but I've never actually tried them at La Crêpe Nanou. My video review of La Crêpe Nanou French Bistro is here: https://youtu.be/0Aeg8awYqbY

Yelp
The crepes are an actual joke. The actual crepe taste feels like you're chewing on flavorless tire. Not to mention the serving size that would be proper for a toddler. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Cozy, funky, romantic, and eclectic all in one. A coveted neighborhood restaurant that's romantic and unique that appeals to solo diners, families , and friends. The menu has something for everyone. Delicious mussels , salmon, shrimp with pasta, burgers, crepes, and desserts and salads. You can't go wrong ! Call for reservations.

Yelp
Cozy ambiance, fast service, was willing to accommodate a last minute walk-in. Pasta was a little over cooked for me but the beans and shrimp were prepared well.

Yelp
We love going to Crepe Nanou, but lately it has not lived up to its past excellence. A simple dinner - 1 drink each and 2 entrées. $100 plus tip. Glass of pouille Fuisse $18. Grey Goose martini $17. I know prices for everything went up after Covid, but this is a significant increase for the restaurant. We wanted their delicious french fries to enjoy with our drinks. They are no longer a French cut french fry and very ordinary. I hate to compare it, but very similar to a Wendy's fry. And very disappointing. The server who was fairly new, said she's already heard this from several of her customers. The crabmeat crêpes was served with about a third amount of cream spinach as it used to. Ok. Better for the waistline. And the sauce was so loaded with cornstarch or maybe something else, that the sauce was actually dry. We love the restaurant and hope they get it together.

Yelp
Every time we come to Nola for a visit, this is our happy place. Every dish I have ever ordered is divine we especially love the neighborhood location and the intimate interior space. Service was attentive and perfect in all ways.

Yelp
Recently dined again at this neighbor bistro. Service here is always excellent and in this recent occasion the food was exceptional-panned veal with a lemon caper burre blanc over pasta and a side of Haricot Vert. Crêpe Antillese. For desert , ALL EXCELLENT!

Yelp
wow wow wow. Why have I never been here before?! I called snd left a message when I saw no reservations were available. After an art shopping spree, I announced to my friend that I had spent my dinner budget. Later that day, Alese called and offered me a table. Oh dang, ummmm, let me ring you back. I called my friend patticakes and shared that i would be going over my budget and dinner was back on. We started with cocktails, then fondue (ummmm this was sooooooo good), Patti had the Beef Bourguignon Crepe and I the Paneed Veal . The atmosphere was delightfully French, I was in heaven and the meal was probably one of the best I've had here in New Orleans. I'll be returning tout de suite!

Yelp
So much better than my last visit several years ago. So much! It's back to its old self and I am happy for it. The dining room is one of the most comfortable I've ever had the joy of eating in, intimate. I look forward to working my way through the crepes all over again! Mussels, vinaigrette avocado, goat cheese salad, dessert crepes. I had the salmon with bernaise and it was as delicately perfect as I remembered. (The dash across Prytania to the Creole Creamery is just as life-affirming as I remember because if you make it alive, you are ready for some ice cream for sure even if you had that dessert crepe.) Sometimes you can go home again (restaurant-wise).

Yelp
The gem of nola. Fresh oysters from Canada tonight for the family. I finished my onion soup just in time to witness my wife grab the last one

Yelp
This restaurant is absolutely WONDERFUL! Great service, food is amazing, and lovely decor. I've treated myself twice now to the fondue which is sensational! I've ordered the salmon twice, sooooo good! I've also had the steak once which was also very delicious. All in all great experience! Will definitely be eating here again!

Yelp
This is a very unique and pretty restaurant. We had a group of six locals who had never tried this restaurant before. Our experience had a mix of results. The drinks we ordered were excellent Our entrees included a lamb chop that was excellent, but served with French fries... really? We tried the Paneed Veal. It was tough and a bit greasy... just OK. One of our group had the Grilled Salmon, it was good. Two of our group had the crawfish crepe that was also pretty good. Our desserts, Crepe Nanou and Crepe Antillaise (banana) were pretty good. Our wait staff was unpleasant and surly. That made the dinner experience much less positive than it should have been. Food 4/5, Ambiance 4/5, Service 3/5. Pricing is fair.

Ray G.

Yelp
I had forgotten how good this place was, a friend ordered the steak Diane the cut of meat was not as it should be. Overall all the other food was delicious. I should have sent it back but didn't

Yelp
Everything from the staff and ambiance, to the other guests and food. Truly amazing. I had so much fun.

Yelp
This place is a family favorite--It is charming and delicious! Get ready for some of the most decadent you've had in awhile...awesome starters like fondue and French onion soup. I get full before the main courses! The have a great wine selection too. Reservations recommended but easy enough to get a table when it's not prime time
google avatar

Lacey D.

Yelp
La Crepe Nanou is a charming place with a lovey interior and atmosphere and delicious food. This visit my husband and I tried: the fondue, French onion soup, crawfish crepe, shrimp pasta, and king cake crepe. Everything was perfection with the exception of the crawfish crepe- the description said in a morning sauce but it was pretty dry there was not much sauce to be found. This gave the crepe an odd texture and not much flavor. The fondue was deliciously flavored and the asparagus and green beans were a great choice of dippers. The soup is amazing, a wonderful flavor. The pasta looks simple but has big flavor. And the dessert crepe was delicious as well. We will be back!

Yelp
I was invited by a local friend for a group meal here and feared it was a "crepe only" kind of place (which it is not) and has a terrific meal here. It's been here for a while and has a terrific staff and has a very comfy vibe inside. I had the drum daily special and it was terrific along with the leak soup. Lots of daily specials worth considering and oh yes, the crepes for desert are terrific. Reservations encouraged.

Yelp
Stellar date night! Mussels, French onion soup, shrimp pasta and filet steak. Perfection

David M.

Yelp
My escalope de veau was delicious! Cozy place but it was a bit difficult to hear each other above the din.

Jeanne Marie L.

Yelp
worst dinner experience I've had in a while. me and my friends went for a 21st birthday party. Service was so slow and rude. At the end of dinner as we were writing the tip (the pastry chef?) came to us and threw a glass plate with a crepe on it on our table. He then proceeded to sarcastically say "thought I would help yall out cause yall are definitely 21". Very rude and everyone turned and my friend was very embarrassed on her birthday. Will not return and shame on the staff! So embarrassing.
google avatar

Madison O.

Yelp
Le Crepe Nanou gets 5 stars for the mussels alone. I am always on the lookout for clean mussels and these are cooked to perfection. This place is one of my all time favorite New Orleans restaurants and I have never been disappointed. Order the mussels. Period.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
I love a great Parisian experience, and this place delivers. With an awning and lighting outside reminiscent of the art nouveau period, Café style seating outdoors and the lovely contrast of blue stained glass and orange cabinet lighting, the atmosphere alone transports you to your ideal French cafe romance. The menu is CLASSIC French with cheese, pate boards and mussels with fries, as well as a delectable French onion soup, crepes and daily specials. Intimate, cozy and adequately priced, this is the perfect spot for a date night, or a solitary glass of wine before catching a film at The Prytania. A GEM.
google avatar

Lucia B.

Yelp
Lovely spot with a romantic ambiance. If you have one night only in New Orleans, this is probably not for you, but a great choice for locals seeking a gem for date night or vacationers with a few days who want to duck off the beaten path and see a sweet little part of town. Definitely underrated and worth your patronage.

Yelp
This is a wonderful little restaurant and still one of my favorites Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday I have always liked all the decorations and ambiance. It's very warm and inviting We started the birthday celebration with champagne Followed by Salade Tropical avocado heart of palm artichoke tomatoes and cucumbers on Bibb lettuce Next I ordered Filet Mignon medium rare It came out perfect The birthday boy ordered grilled Salmon Again perfect not over cooked We skipped desert for tonight Service was excellent I will always come back The menu is on their website so you can check it out ahead of time Parking can be a little challenging when having to park on the streets uptown but I have never let that deter me I have been patronizing this restaurant since I was in college during the nineties Every time I dine here my expectations are always met I have never been disappointed The service the food the wine has always been consistently exceptional Thank you for such an elegant evening
google avatar

Yelp
My family has frequently enjoyed this restaurant for the food, ambiance and service. I recommend the large order of mussels which is something we get every single visit. The veal and lamb chops are also fantastic!

Yelp
Y'all.... Our server ladies were SO rude to us. We had a reservation for 10 people right at the opening at 5. They sat us at a table for 9 and we moved a chair over- yall... it was as if the world had ended- they passive aggressively yelled at us that that chair was for another reservation and we should've planned better (IM sorry? WE should have planned better? We had a literal reservation made weeks in advance) and then wouldn't give us another chair- they told us we had to squeeze into our booth more. They eventually allowed us to use the extra chair but ONLY until the other reservation came in an hour. Yall... WHAT? JUST GIVE US ANOTHER CHAIR?? And then they were so annoyed when we asked for refills or more salad dressing later on into dinner. The food was just okay, but the servers made the experience so bad we literally aren't ever going back. The only reason they get any stars is because my dad's soup was okay. We were uncomfortably squeezed together like sardines the entire time and afraid to ask for anything. That isn't normal- we were a pretty kind and considerate group that wasn't rowdy- and we spent a TON of money here. Do not recommend unless the staff gets an attitude check and they figure out how to season any food

Yelp
I have been coming to Crepe Nanou regularly since I moved to NOLA 20 years ago. How have I never done a Yelp review? I love everything about Nanou so much- the atmosphere where you can imagine you're dining in an adorable French bistro, with French music playing and local art decorating the walls; the solid menu, which has remained virtually unchanged; the French fries, which are easily in the top 5 in town; the mussels, with a rich broth unmatched by anywhere else; the fondue, which is especially delicious when it's chilly outside, and one of the very few restaurants to have fondue; the dessert crepes, which are perfection. The wine list has numerous reasonably priced bottles, and the service is always welcoming. Post-COVID, all precautions are being taken, and we felt very safe. The mussels and frites were as delicious as ever! The fondue has been scaled back a little, there is no option for fruit on the menu, but may be if you ask. I devoured it so fast I forgot to take a picture! We tried the special dessert of profiteroles, but the dessert crepes are really the way to go- particularly the namesake Crepe Nanou. If it's been awhile, pop back in to Crepe Nanou, for a most delicious and delightful experience!

Yelp
Loved this place! It was so cute inside, I felt like I was in a restaurant in France. The service was great, our waiter was very attentive. The food was absolutely incredible, I am gluten free so I had the steak and it was cooked perfect. My coworkers had the crepe and said it was the best they ever had. The fondue is a MUST for an appetizer too. Can't wait to come back!

Barbara F.

Yelp
My husband and I try to have a monthly date night dinner and La Crepe Nanou is one of our constants. The exceptional mussels with fries along with the French onion soup are delicious. Recently we have enjoyed the burger that is new to the specials menu. It is a moist delicious departure from the traditional find French cuisine we have enjoyed over the many years of dining .
google avatar

Gary K.

Yelp
Great French cuisine. Classic dishes. Comfortable atmosphere. We love to go there whenever We are in NOLA. A nice break from all the Cajun/creole fare. Highly recommend this neighborhood restaurant!

Yelp
I finally tried this place last week, after building it up in my head as the cutest most romantic date night, and it did not disappoint! The interior is low lit but not dim and the little bistro tables are spaced not too close together. We just had the escargot and the fondue- the escargot was delish and our server graciously brought us some extra bread to lap up the garlic butter sauce we were basically eating with a spoon. The fondue was yummy, served with even more bread (like a whole basket) and a small bowl of green beans & potatoes. This fondue was huuuuuuge and could've definitely satisfied a larger party but my boyfriend and I definitely did some damage! We can't wait to go back and try the mussels which looked incredible!!! And the cherry on top is it's right across from Creole Creamery so you can end date night with some ice cream :) Aside from the food & vibes, I want to say how marvelous our service was. Although we only had the two apps & drinks, everything was timed so that it seemed like a luxurious meal (which it was!).

David M.

Yelp
As close to Paris as you can get. The service was exceptional without being too intrusive. Food was delicious and perfect for sharing. Lively atmosphere.
google avatar

Marissa M.

Yelp
We were on our way to an ice cream shop down the way, happened into La Crepe Nanou and could not have been happier with our decision to stay. We got the Crepe Nanou and the Crepe Lucie but could not pass up the mussels and fries - wow. Sooo good!! Service was super friendly and prompt. The vibes were immaculate. Reminded me of being back in France. 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Seymour M.

Yelp
Fabulous. Lovely setting, great food, caring staff. We enjoyed our meals and cocktails. Very comfortable environment, we enjoyed the people watching and the music being played. Overall a great time. I recommend this place and will return.

Susan C.

Yelp
The muscles were wonderful and a delicious white wine bra. The goat cheese, crouton salad was fresh and delicious though I could have had more than two goat cheese croutons. The crawfish crêpe was spicy and delicious and the grab and spinach crêpe were loaded with beautiful white lab crab meat. The servings are Very hearty so sharing is definitely an option here.

Tracy S.

Yelp
They serve frozen mousse. It had hard frozen lumps and I couldn't even eat it. Very disappointed for the price
google avatar

Rowan P.

Yelp
La Crepe Nanou is a lovely little French restaurant located Uptown just off Prytania. They are offering dine in service and take out. You must make a reservation to eat there. The staff are very kind and safe and the table are all spaced apart. The food was amazing! I went with one other person and we shared the escargot as an appetizer and the fondue as our entree. The meal was a cheesy, buttery delight! Fondue is such a fun food and you just rarely get the opportunity to eat it. The fondue came with bread, potatoes, and green beans. The bread and potatoes were great and we even asked for extra bread. The green beans were okay, but dipped in cheese anything will taste good. Overall I had a lovely experience at La Crepe Nanou and I hope I can return soon.

Yelp
Incredible food all around. We came in soaking wet on a rainy day and the first thing we were given was French Onion Soup. Best soup ever. I ordered the Salmon with Lemon Caper Sauce, Boyfriend ordered the Filet. Filet was ok, would have appreciated it medium rare. Salmon was excellent. Coffee was alright too. So was Sauvignon Blanc. Will come back for soup! Might try one of the crepes as well...
google avatar

Kelly A.

Yelp
Came here for my sister's birthday and it was AWESOME! Such a cute and quaint atmosphere, great for a family dinner. I had the shrimp and angel hair pasta and it was so tastey...the shrimp were huge! My family had the crab crepe and salmon filet (we all shared because everything looked so great)! The servers are always very friendly and accommodating..it was super hot outside and the serve had to have refilled my water glass 8 times lol. A little pricey for just a casual dinner (even though the prices are totally worth it!), but i will definitely be back for a special occasion.

Audette L.

Yelp
It was fantastic! Would highly recommend for a great date spot and even better food. Service was very good and the prices were fair as well.

Noel A.

Yelp
Saw this place earlier in the and it looked inviting so I went for dinner. Inviting is not one of the words I would use to describe this place. The food was extremely bland for a local neighborhood restaurant, especially in New Orleans. The menu offers many enticing appetizers, salads. entrees and well as crepes. The staff on the other hand offers absolutely nothing. If they were going for the vibe the French give Americans in France they nailed it! I barely encountered any staff but when I did they were clearly doing me a favor providing service. Appetizers-French Onion Soup was decent. The avocado and crabmeat salad had nice back-fin crabmeat in a half of an avocado. Sadly everything lacked flavor. Even with the sauce provide and salt and pepper. Entrees - Crêpe Oignon-Fromage Gruyère and Emmental with caramelized onions was excellent' Panéed Veal over angel hair pasta was very bland. Desert- Strawberry and cream crepes just as boring and tasteless as the other food items. I asked for chocolate and it was a smooth dark chocolate that helped immensely.

Kayla M.

Yelp
Fantastic food, atmosphere and service! Highly recommend the mussel. I look forward to going back soon!

Katie C.

Yelp
My thoughts start to finish: - parking is a little weird because it's on a side street - the baguette before food comes is super good - nice ambiance, looks very fancy, has a lot more space than it seems - great at refilling water quickly - quick turnaround from order to crepe - really nice and thin crepe, well filled - the cheese ones were super rich - Provençal: basically like ratatouille with zucchini, eggplant, onion, tomato, great side mushrooms and potatoes, small and filling, good portion for one - my friend felt that her crepe had some soft parts and she prefers crispier - quick and easy to pay - didn't get drinks but they looked good Overall, would recommend, would return

Yelp
One of our favorite spots in town. Dinner last night was perfect. The staff, while very busy, was so welcoming and our server, Lauren, was the best. From the mussels to the crabmeat avocado to the filet and lamb, everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. Thanks!!

Yelp
We had friends in from out of town and wanted to go someplace new. EVERYONE raved!! The decor is spectacular. The lights give a wonderful ambience. We were seated promptly. And Jay could not have been nicer. We were in no hurry as we wanted to sit and catch up. He timed our meal perfectly. Drinks were always full and out take home dessert crepe came right out so we didn't have to wait for it. We started with the cheese plate. The menu says it very pretty in French. Wish I could too. It had several selections from St James Cheese Company. Perfect start. French onion soup reminded me of a small cafe in Paris. The escargots delicious. We split the crab crepe and our friends had the Louisiana crawfish tail crepe. Both had plenty of meat on top. Just delicious. We Haven't eaten the sweet crepe yet. Jay packed the ice cream separate so we will be able to enjoy it all later. It was a wonderful evening. The food, the space, the service. Thank you for everything.

Yelp
Outstanding little restaurant off of Prytania. Cozy atmosphere, great staff (Christina our Server and her brother Michael the Chef) did a most excellent job. The food was perfect. Medium rare was exactly that. Wonderful place. Can't wait to get back!!

David E.

Yelp
I've been there hundreds of times. It's a great place with consistent basic french food. While there have been some hiccups in the last couple of years, considering all, I still highly recommend it. It still feels like home. I even have one of Jason's paintings in my house!

Susan D.

Yelp
A wonderful evening tonight! Manager is so very nice! It had been a while since we'd been there, but we'll be back again soon! A real Uptown treasure!
