11 Nashville Latin American Restaurants Worth Visiting | Eater Nashville

"Two words: Bandeja paisa. In Colombia, this traditional dish is meant to fuel workers for the long day ahead. Although after consuming all of the beans, rice, eggs, avocado, plantains, chicharron, arepa, chorizo, and beef that comes with this dish, a nap might be more in order. Might be a good idea to order a cup of coffee to go with the gut-busting fare here—and maybe a few empanadas and pan de bono for the road." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Everything is about tastes and honestly I loved everything is my order, all ingredients well measured, it's up to you add salt and extras but trust me , you'll love their food and service 'ladies are so kind . Restrooms ( I didn't use it ) so not sure how it looks but I mean , all good.

The food was good, the atmosphere was fantastic and Alfredo, our waiter, was outstanding

Laura Ardila

Google
We had such a great experience thanks to Alfredo! He was super attentive, did his job really well, and kept us laughing the whole time. He has such a great vibe—friendly, funny, and genuinely kind. It’s always a pleasure to be served by someone like him. Thank you, Alfredo!

Max Bostelman

Google
We had Catalina take care of us who was very kind and the communication she delivered was extremely professional and informative. Try the green orange juice, I had never tried it before but it was quite refreshing on a hot day. Food was spectacular. Ten out of ten spot… try the big plate and the Hawaiian empanadas.

Andy Kuoch

Google
As someone who lived in NYC previously, I have been looking for the most authentic Columbian food in Nashville and I found it here at La Cucharita. We tried the arroz con pollo and family special empanadas this time, but we will be back many more times. You may need to know some Spanish or use Google Translate to order.

Jully Cure Garcia

Google
Had a wonderful time at La Cucharita! The food was incredible—authentic and as close as it gets to real Colombian cuisine. Catalina was exceptionally kind and helpful, guiding us through the menu and providing top-notch service. 10/5!

Gerry Fullmen

Google
Came here for empanadas and they were delicious as always. Service is always great as well, today Maritza and Alfredo waited on our table and both were friendly and made us feel welcomed. 10/10 Will be back!

Google
One of the best Colombian restaurants I had tried. Everything was so good and also prices are very good compare to others restaurants. Staff very friendly.

Maxwell S.

Yelp
Catalina was an amazing waitress and really helped me practice my Spanish! She was incredibly friendly and accommodating and made me feel welcome. Everyone else was super nice, too. The food was delicious and some of the best in the area. The sausage was cooked perfectly, as was the fish I ordered. Great experience

Yelp
Food was good, I like the bandeja pasia which has everything. But the chicharron was kinda hard and dry and the skin was not crunchy. Maybe because I went there late, but everything else was wonderful. Food comes out pretty fast too.

Yelp
Empanadas could be better. The Aji was not correct. Bandeja Paisa was good. They had Colombians!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're craving Colombian food , this is the spot! Very authentic and flavorful. Staff is friendly and service was awesome

Kristen G.

Yelp
Catalina was a great waitress- very friendly and helpful and took great care of me on my first time here! The food was delicious- i had arroz con pollo and a couple empanadas and all of it was flavorful. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
OMG so good! Prices really reasonable and the food is amazing. I spit this dish with my girlfriend and it was the perfect amount of food. Also had two empanadas. I can stress enough how good and authentic this place is. Be prepared to practice your Spanish though-not much English is spoken here. Can't wait to go back here!

Yelp
Er love this place. Great people and food. (&usually music too!) My husband orders the Bandeja Paisana and I get the Mojarra Frita. We never leave hungry!

Yelp
One word...AUTHENTIC. Truly spanish speaking and the food was flavorful and perfect. Service was great and attentive. Vibe was very Colombian with decor....definitely my best meal in Nashville so far. Watch my video!

Yelp
Food was great and it was brought out fast. If I'm ever back in Nashville I'd definitely stop here again.

Yelp
We came here with a friend who was born in Colombia but was adopted at 3 months. He was so eager to try this place out and it did not disappoint in the tastes and service. The ambiance was very calm as we came at 7pm but after about 30min there was soon a few tables being taken by locals hungry for some Colombian cuisine. We're vegetarian so we ordered sides but our friends ordered meat dishes that looked yummy and said it the sausage and meat tasted just like what they had in Colombia less than a month ago. Get the Lulo drink, sweet plantains, Guava and Cheese Empanada and the pandebono when you check out to take home, a sweet cheesy bread pastry: we got guava! Highly recommend checking this unique restaurant out and supporting the culture along Nolensville Pike. We'll be coming back with our friends soon enough!

Fabián F.

Yelp
muy caro y pésimo el servicio. Solo te sirven y ya jamás se vuelven a acercar a tu mesa

Yelp
Delicious! I love the empanadas but have tried a few things on their menu and have been happily satisfied every time. I grew up in NY where there is an abundance of excellent Colombian food and it's nice to have this available in Nashville! Casual ambiance and a friendly staff make this a place to visit again and again!

Yelp
Very good! I really enjoyed the arroz con pollo. It came with three sides so there was plenty to eat. It didn't take long to go our food. Overall, it was quite tasty and I enjoyed trying somewhere new.

Yelp
This place brings back memories. I am a Mexican but I lived in between Bogota, Colombia and Monterrey Casanare for 2 years. Daily, I would eat the best food of Colombia made by locals, often not in restaurants but in the homes of friends I made. This food is as close as I've tasted for any place calling itself authentic Colombian. I ordered a bandeja paisa and salchipapas, my favorite from back in the day. They have the pink cream sauce to go along with the salchipapas. The juices are also of the natural blend including Jugo de Mora, Lulo, and passion fruit. The arepas were made to order and fresh. The patacón was as good as I remember and the chorizo is Colombian, not Mexican, which are two very distinct types of chorizo. Come here for the great food. Stay for the music. I'll be returning here often, seeing as I am moving to Nashville soon!!!

Yelp
This is what I love about Nashville. Over the past two decades, our city has gradually become a melting pot of cultures and hence an amalgam of cuisines. We have Colombian food? Yes we do! And we have enough people in the city who appreciate it to keep La Cucharita going for a long time! It was National Empanada Day, and I celebrate ALL food days. So I needed a place to eat some authentic empanadas. La Cucharita has the best in town, so there was no question! Long ago, I fell in love with their empanadas when they operated a small space in the Food Court of the Global Mall (formerly known as Hickory Hollow). They've now upgraded to a large dining space near the well-traversed corner of Nolensville Road and Old Hickory Boulevard. As soon as I crossed the threshold, I was greeted in Spanish by the friendly gentleman who runs the place. Wow, that first bite of crispy corn shell with generous amounts of melted cheese inside, dipped in the fresh house-made salsa. There is nothing quite like that anywhere else in Nashville! The Empanada Cubana is just as delicious, with its flour-based shell remotely similar to an Indian samosa overstuffed with ham and pork. The chicharrón (fried pork belly) manages to be simultaneously crispy and juicy, a delectable example of antojitos (Mexican street food). It comes with a papa hervida, a plump little boiled potato with the most perfectly tender inside. A gorgeous mural of Colombian farmland brightens one wall amongst charming pieces of traditional décor. Baked goods by the cash register tantalize customers as they come and go. Across the street, a decaying tennis court had been converted into a soccer field. Young Hispanic boys ran up and down their makeshift field while I dined. The fusion of all these details transported me away from Nashville to another place, a truly immersive experience with palpable authenticity. This is the place you go when you want empanadas!

Yelp
Not sure why I haven't reviewed this place yet. I mean, I even follow them on Facebook; oops. I wish it was closer to clarksville, so I could frequent more often. If I can get some home cooked meals, I'll take it. I used to have way more options back in Chicago, so I like to go as much as I can. It's a quaint spot in Nashville, right next to Ibiza. The owner is about my age and cooking up a storm; bringing all my Colombian favorites to Nashville. The last time I went, I went with my mom, Brother, and his gf. We got a picada among all the other goodies. Quick snack plate, some Colombian drinks, empanadas, and buñuelos. I think we even took a Brandeis paisa home. Seriously, I can't get enough Colombian food. Everything tastes great and for a great price. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Best bandeja paisa I have ever had!!! Absolutely awesome food and the staff is super friendly! My new fav spot!

Hector V.

Yelp
Sorry no pictures. We jumped right in.

Yelp

Yelp
When I pulled up to La Cucharita, I found a parking spot with ease. The parking lot is located directly in front of the restaurant and is shared with surrounding businesses, and it's a good size. This restaurant is located in between a laundromat and a night club, and there's a Kroger right around the corner from it. My first thought walking into the restaurant was how popular this place was. The restaurant isn't huge, but the amount of customers inside was reassuring that their food would be sublime. We were immediately greeted and seated by an enthusiastic waitress. After trying Colombian food for the first time in San Diego, CA, my husband was eager to order some of his favorites here. We decided to order the Empanadas de maiz family special which was $11.25 for 6 empanadas. We chose to get 2 each of the following: Pollo, Carne, and Queso. To spice it up a bit, we also ordered 2 Viagra Empanadas de trigo which were filled with shrimp and crab for $6.50. Lastly we ordered the Bandeja Paisa Carne for $17.99! Considering how packed this restaurant was, the food arrived quickly and accurately. We dug into the empanadas and determined the ones filled with queso were our favorites! I wouldn't particularly order the Viagra empanadas again because they were a little fishy, but they weren't terrible. Next we moved on to the Bandeja Paisa Carne and punctured the egg with our forks and mixed the yolk with the rice and beans. We sliced the blood sausage and peeled the freshly cut avocado. Since this was my first time trying Colombian cuisine, I took the first bite and I was hooked. There are so many complementary flavors in this dish. The pork belly was fried but packed with flavor & the texture was soft. Our kids also enjoyed everything which is surprising because they can be picky at times! Our experience was good, so I recommend trying this place out if you're in the area or just in the mood for some Latin cuisine.

Yelp
So happy to have a Colombian place close to home! My mother is from Colombia and family still lives there, so I have had it growing up. I took my mom here and we both loved it. I had empanadas and an arepa. My mom got a traditional platter (which I tasted) and it did not disappoint. The flavor of the carne asada is delicioussss. Closest to authentic that you'll get in the states, aside from your family's home cooking. :) Give this place a try, and order lots of things!

Ivan V.

Yelp
amazing place and people!!! the food is amazing I love the empanadas I really think that the person that only gave then One star review must be on drugs or something I eat every day there and have never seen animals walking around and all the other reviews can't lie and who cares about the nationality of the person who cooks if the food is amazing and full of flavor?? I really recommend this place.

Sara Z.

Yelp
Wonderful service, amazing food/drinks, and beautiful atmosphere! All the food taste amazing and the workers are truly the nicest people. I will always be coming back!

Gayle L.

Yelp
I ordered what was called "mini Sancocho" in order to try the dish on which I base my opinion of the authenticity of a Colombian restaurant. Sancocho is a classic, made with chicken (and some times other meats, like ribs) plus green plantains, potatoes, yuca and other veggies. Imagine my surprise, when I got home, to discover a small (mini:) container of salty broth! That's it! Nothing else in it. If you are using the word sancocho, it refers to the entire dish. And if you're referring only to the liquid, the broth, the word used is "caldo." If the menu had said caldo I wouldn't have wasted over $5 on a cup of broth and silver dollar sized arepa. Based on the broth, the color, the saltiness and no discernable taste of cilantro ( a customary flavoring)--I won't be going back to try a "Grande Sancocho." Very, very disappointing; I threw out.

Yelp
I been here several times now. The first time was just for the empanadas. They have different kinds and the sauce that goes with it is really good. I usually get the beef and chicken ones. 6 for $9.99 is worth it to me. And then one time i sat and ate there and had some chicken plate and it was very flavorful and they give you so much food. I'm so glad i found a good empanadas place not too far from me.
google avatar

Jasmin V.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. Food is great and very flavorful. My favorite is La Bandeja Paisa, as it has a mixture of chicharron frito with steak and sausage combined with plantains, rice, beans and arepa. Its hard to find a great Hispanic food place. Service 5/5 Food 5/5 Atmosphere 4.5/5 I recommend it 100%.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow I just had this delivered to me and it was LEGIT!! Best empanadas outside of LA so far. The chicken one was reminiscent of an Indian samosa-- it must have had potatoes in it along with the spices. I'm not entirely sure what it was comprised of but it was absolutely delicious and I want more. The ham and cheese empanada was also amazing and had a lot of filling! I got the "regular" sized beef plate and it was still a LOT of food. Couldn't finish it all but I'm excited to turn the rest of the rice and sausage into some bomb fried rice tomorrow. The carne asada was delicious and there were no weird chewy pieces on it that I couldn't eat which is always a plus in my book. Avocado was great with it and the fried plantains were perfect. The only part of my meal that was slightly lacking IMO were the beans. I wish they tasted more like meat or spices or something. Other than that, a dynamite meal and crave worthy empanadas!!

Callan D.

Yelp
We ordered the Chicharrón, pollo empanada, and carne empanada. Everything was made fresh to order! Super delicious. We are definitely coming back
google avatar

Mitch J.

Yelp
Love love love. Don't be fooled by the humble exterior. We only got the sancocho (basically an very elevated beef stew with yucca, potatoes, beef, corn, and several other ingredients) but oh my goodness that's all we needed. Some of the best sancocho I've ever had in my life. Served with a generous portion of rice, avocado, and two large plantain chips. Finish your meal off with a homemade empanada and you'll leave completely satisfied. Plus, the staff was super friendly. Definitely coming here next time we're in town!
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 I'm not an expert on South American cuisine. What I loved is the perfectly crunchy outside of my Empanada and its moist innards. Yes I said moist. The flavor was meh, along with the flavor of the Arepa Con Carne. I've been to another Colombian restaurant in town that made my tastebuds wake up. Condiments didn't help much, which one of the two was basically yum yum sauce. This restaurant is in a strip mall on the back side of Kroger with plenty of free parking. The space is very clean and bright with minimal decor. I was nearly traumatized by the loud Spanish language radio station being fired over the speakers for the entire 30 minutes I was there. Not because I don't like Spanish language music, but because radio commercials are obnoxious no matter what language they're in. The server was also meh. She was neither unhappy nor happy to be there. Got the job done but was very robotic and non-friendly (not to be confused with unfriendly). A couple of people entered near the end of my meal who stood for a long time before being seated because the server spent an inordinate amount of time with a seated customer couldn't decide what she wanted. I feel like I need to go back and try again because the guy sitting in front of me seemed very pleased with his soup.

Yelp
This place was amazing!! Go to it now!! The food was incredible. I took y girlfriend there on a date night.

Yelp
A-ok is 3 stars, this place is that. I like the size, there were lots of tables, people seemed to genuinely enjoy their visit. Mine on the other hand was slightly disappointing. With a passion I love arepas. One of the things I love about arepas is the green sauce that I've found at every single place that sells them. Loaded with flavor love drizzled all over the top. This place does not have the sauce. I ordered chicken and fried pork belly arepas. The dish often comes with rice, these were alone. The pork belly was fried hard and was very chewy and tough. My friend seemed satisfied but now wowed by his experience as well. I'm sure there are some traditional dishes here that are great. I just happened to have bad luck with mine. The reviews overwhelmingly say this is a good place. Please give it a try and decide for yourself.

Rabel R.

Yelp
Wow quite literally one of the best places I've been in all of Tennessee, and that's not hyperbole. Their prices are great and their food was even better. Some of the best most authentic chicharones I've ever had (and this is from a born cuban from Miami). If you're even in the area don't skip this place, it's a MUST GO!!

Kelly S.

Yelp
Excellent food and service, thank you Stephanie and Catalina for everything! We loved it!

Danny N.

Yelp
I visited La Cucharita for Monday lunch with 2 coworkers. Between us we ordered two meals thr steak Bandeja Paisa which was pretty massive and Picada which was double massive. We split the Picada. It came with carne, pollo, papas fritas, chorizo, tosones, yuca, morcilla, and chicharron. It was a smorgasbord with enough to feed a family almost. Everything was very good. I liked the morcilla black sausage the most. I'm always a fan of fried yuca as well.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Delicious! This place had excellent customer service and their food was extremely authentic and fresh. I came twice in one week. I've been to Colombia and compared the food to what I tasted in Cartagena.... same quality and taste! So happy I found this gem.
google avatar

Mckenzie B.

Yelp
This is a little gem. It's tucked away and kinda low key but it's soooo good! I usually get the chicken and the beef empanadas and they never disappoint! The staff is friendly and the venue is nice and clean! This is my favorite Colombian spot!

Chris H.

Yelp
Cinco estrellas. La comida, el servicio, la ambiente. Todo fantástico. Las empanadas son muy ricas.

K. G.

Yelp
As a Colombian. This was terrible! Maybe if you've never had real Colombian food this is acceptable. I ordered several items. Some were stale, I got the Arepa de Chocolo (corn cake) it was thick, super dense like when you try to use more flour so it's cheaper to make. Terrible! Next time either I'll make the food myself or just get through the craving. Sad because Colombian food well made is amazing!
google avatar

Anthony H.

Yelp
Good food nice employees but it needs to cut their prices but it's still awesome. Yay
google avatar

Sergio R.

Yelp
La Cucharita has an extense menu full of typical Colombian food. The food they prepared has an amazing flavor, presentation, and ingredients. I have visited the restaurant a couple times, and I have loved their kind service. And, I also have ordered catering with them, and people loved the food! I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
If y'all scroll through the pictures you'll understand just how much I enjoyed the meal. I was born and raised in Hudson county New Jersey. Home to north Bergen and union city, two city's absolutely filled with central and southern American cultures. Living there set a very high standard for food choices on my part, especially Colombian food. I lived in the DMV aka Maryland from 2017 to early this august and found no trace of any good Colombian dishes. This place right here brought me back to New Jersey though. The food was prepared so well, meat was tender to the cut and tasteful. The chorizo was gobbled down in about 2 bites and the arepa, I don't eat arepas but this one was vanquished before I could drag it through the beans. The empanadas had that crunch to them that makes you wanna say excuse me and the potato and beef mix was so well proportioned. This spot deserves many more revisits and it shall receive them from me. Thank you guys for the great meal.

Marguel P.

Yelp
Amazing food. Amazing customer service. Excellent servicio. Comida fabulosa. Second time here. Will be back.
google avatar

Pegan S.

Yelp
OH. MY. GOODNESS! This is the real deal and these are the nicest people. This is a restaurant that we want to succeed!!! Please.... tell EVERYONE you know to come here. Empanadas are only 1.75. Corn or wheat...savory or sweet. Their beans are delicately flavored and the chicharrones.. YUMM! The plantains are perfect and we will be back!!
google avatar

Pei L.

Yelp
It was some solid food, great for a hangover. The bandeja carne has a variety of flavors and textures. I love the plantains and my friend likes the extra crispy pork belly. The egg was perfectly runny. The hawaiian empanada is definitely our favorite. Next time we need to get one per person for sure.

John M.

Yelp
Long time not tasting a good Colombian "Ajiaco" . Here you can find it. Great attention from his owner.
google avatar

Keith K.

Yelp
I love this place, they have the best Colombian food around and treat all of their customers like family. If you haven't eaten here you are really losing out.
google avatar

Kali M.

Yelp
By far my favorite Colombian restaurant in Antioch/Nashville . Great service great food, bilingual servers makes everything so welcoming yet so uniquely Colombian. They incorporate so many elements that I truly enjoyed when actually in Colombia that finding this place with the perfect empanadas, delicious sancocho, and a great variety of fresh juices such as soursop, passion fruit, mango, and occasionally LULO is amazing. Will always return here!!?

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots in Nashville! Super delicious food at reasonable prices Great portion sizes! I had the mini bandeja and it was BOMB. So many flavors on one plate 10/10 highly recommend.
