"Since 1990, the scent of toasted cinnamon wafting in the dining room from pots of cafe de olla, warm corn tortillas on a comal, and fresh-cut papaya have welcomed Tijuanenses into a charming restaurant that evokes classic Mexico. Fried cubes of herbed potatoes and refried beans come with everything, from the machaca ranchera, or beef jerky sauteed with tomatoes, onions, and peppers, to tangy huevos rancheros, the house omelet bathed in a chipotle cream sauce, an a variety of chilaquiles. Its owners also operate Talavera Azul, the popular Chula Vista breakfast spot." - Bill Esparza

Well, those coming from the US and don't read or only speak a little Spanish, I would not suggest this restaurant unless someone in your party knows Spanish. My dining experience was good, but our waiter forgot about us when it came to getting the bill. I was celebrating my birthday, and three waiters sang los mañanitas and brought me a complimentary slice of carrot cake with a coup of vanilla ice cream. Yummy 😋

Came to eat here on June 20TH, 2025. Have eaten here previously and thought it just an average experience then. Was in the area so decided to get something to eat here. I think that it’s highly over rated. The food is bland. The serving is very okay, the restaurant itself is average inside, pretty big with lots of tables. There were 3 of us and we all ordered different things and not one of us were impressed with our dish. Even the house coffee was mediocre and at 75 pesos for the cup you’d expect something better. I would not recommend this place. The portions were big but what good is that if the food is just meh? To me there are better places with more flavor and better prices in Tijuana.

I visited La Espadaña on Sunday at 11 AM, and it was incredibly busy—I had to wait about 45 minutes for a table. Despite the wait, the ambiance was great, and the staff was polite and very helpful. The food was well worth it! I ordered the Machaca and eggs along with their signature Café de la Olla, and everything was delicious. Definitely recommended!

Google
My favorite steak! I love this restaurant. Whenever we are in town, it is our top choice. I have been eating at this establishment two or three times a year since 2019. Still the best!

Has a experience of this mexican restaurant in Tijuana. Validated discounted parking. On the Mexican mother's Day they were offering a limited special menu

Google
It had pretty good reviews. Was on the eater list as essential. I’ve just had much better breakfasts in TJ. Not memorable in anyway

Google
It's a pretty authentic restaurant. The food is delicious and not too pricey. Plus - they are blazing fast and preparing and serving food! Kudos to grilled cheese 🧀 with mushrooms 🍄 - great vegetarian option. Be mindful, the portion is massive and you likely wanna get some tortilla de harina with it!

Such a charming and beautiful spot, both inside and outside. Incredible food and kind service at an affordable price. Muchas gracias!

Yelp
Expandable is always a great go-to. It makes me so happy to know that I can still go and get the Pancita that was offered at La Leña before it burned down.

Nathan M.

Yelp
Decided to give this place another shot and tried the chipotle chilaquiles with chicken. Food was standard pretty good. Service was definitely fast and very consistent.

Yelp
Update: Returned to try some of the more popular items on the menu. I learned that it is best to choose queso Cotija or queso fresco for a more authentic flavor (**avoid anything w/ melted Monterey cheese***). The Tampiquena plate was served with generous portions of chilaquiles verdes garnished with queso Cotija and cream, a tender skirt steak that went well with their "on the house" guac/tomatillo salsa, crispy potatoes, and a side of beans. I recommend trying their fresh Green Juice and cafe de olla (note: pilloncillo Is sweet enough, no need to add sugar).

Yelp
I loved this place the coffee is so delicious nothing compared to any coffee shops in America! The food is so fresh and made fresh you can taste the difference from places that cook with canned food! Can't wait to go back to TJ and eat here!

Faustino V.

Yelp
one of my favorite spots south of the border. Serviced is on point always ready to served . Can't never go wrong with the chilaquiles my personal favorite with some cafe de Hoya .

Yelp
Our server was very welcoming and attentive. I give him 5 stars. The food was good (mine was a little salty for my liking), and the muffins were delicious! The place was simple but nice. The restrooms were clean. The parking is not free even when you validate your tickets,, so heads up on that. Unfortunately, we accidentally did not give our server a tip on the card because it was too late to add it. We then tried changing a bill at their money exchange box so that we can leave a tip. The lady there said she couldn't do it. But I think she just didn't care to do it. No sense of even worrying about it. I did not want to go without tipping my server. He was ok without us not tipping him, but it's exactly that positive attitude that made me find a way to tip him. BUT it made me beyond upset to have to ask around for someone to exchange my bill when I am at a well to do establishment. This and the parking situation truly changed my experience. I'm between a two and a three stars rating because even though the food is not excellent, a good experience can really make it better.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday morning at 9:15am. Easy parking. No wait and straight in. Beautiful traditional Mexican decorations. Pros - quick and attentive service. - cafe de olla was delicious. - we both got the chilaquiles with mole. I am only comparing this to about 5 other mole chilaquiles I've had best it was the best one I've had. 10/10. Came with potatoes and beans which were also very good. A big size too. Cons - none. 8.8/10

Anthony Z.

Yelp
Los chilaquiles estaban sabrosos y bien crujientes. los disfruté mucho. el bistec estaba tierno y de buena calidad

Christian A.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot! We were very pleasantly surprised! The chilaquiles were delicious (green and mole). The cafe de olla was great as well (told by my fiancé). The only negative is their horchata tastes inauthentic, I would pass on this (probably machine drink).

Anajacqueline V.

Yelp
Enchiladas verdes tasted homemade and were delicious. Will be stopping by again when I'm in town.

Deysi V.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place, I visited twice during my stay in Tijuana. If you're planning to have breakfast here, be ready for a wait; it's quite popular, with wait times ranging from 30 minutes to an hour. The food is exceptionally tasty--I sampled various items, and everything was delicious. I highly recommend trying their cafe de olla; it was my first time, and it blew me away. The chilaquiles verde with chicken breast were also quite tasty. Our server was consistently attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. I'll definitely return for more of their cafe de olla, my newfound favorite!

Victor L.

Yelp
Oh my god this place is so good !!! Been coming here for years, but dont cross over to mexico that often. Our server was Cirilo and what a difference it makes when you get an awesome server , god bless this dude.

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
I've been coming here numerous times and it never disappoints! I love their cafe de olla and that it's free refills and all of the food is so delicious. The staff so welcoming and the service is amazing. I always stop here for breakfast.

xiomara b.

Yelp
I've este en in different places in TJ, but this is place topped it off!! La espadaña my favorite from all the places I've tried. Delicious, Delicious, Delicious!! I got a simple breakfast huevos rancheros really good and satisfying. My obsession their cafe de olla, have not tried any cafe de olla like theirs!! The service is good too. The place is clean, and comfortable nice restaurant for family with kids. I love this place can't wait to go back and eat there!!

Janil L.

Yelp
The service here is terrible. Our waiter was distracted with other tables and didn't pay attention to us. He asked us about 3 times "I'm sorry what?" And still got our order wrong, twice. Super unprofessional. We ordered both ribeye and filet mignon, both of them rare. Both of them were way over cooked. When we told the waiter he just said ok. I kid you not, I couldn't believe it. The only thing good was the drinks. Don't come here. It's overpriced and not good at all. There are other good places to eat in Tijuana, this place is not it.

Tony C.

Yelp
Order the menudo and I am really sick. I wouldn't order the menudo. Eat safe! My wife order the pozole and that was fine. I couldn't figure out what went wrong but wow! That was not good menudo.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Oh my goodness I am so glad we waited out the long wait. The staff was super nice and attentive. The building and decor are so beautiful. As soon as you walk in you smell the delicious cafe de jolla. We asked the server for recommendations. We got the rancheros mole and the La Espadaña omelette. The omelette was magical, most fluffy eggs, fresh veggies, cheese and the chipotle sauce was bomb dot com. The food was served with hot fresh tortillas (I'm drooling writing this review). Green salsa was fresh, the red salsa tasted like they used tomato paste but had a nice spice to it. Beans were good but the potatoes could use an upgrade. Looking forward to our next TJ visit.

Luis R P.

Yelp
Great decor and nice ambiance. It gets very busy for brunch thus the wait is long but they have a nice patio with benches for waiting. Very authentic Mexican breakfast. Service was good but slow as they were very busy. My omelette was not that tasty and neither was the carrot cake.

Megan B.

Yelp
I was craving Chilaquiles and decided to come here on a recommendation. Little bit of a wait on a Friday morning but not long. The outside and inside are super cute. Started with a Mexican coffee which you can drink black because the flavors are so great and a green smoothie (which is not traditional América smoothie but juice). I decided to try the packs I cream sauce on my chilaquiles which was very good but super heavy. Have learned green sauce is my thing. All in all this place was pretty yummy and cost around $22 USD for all I ordered.

Sergio E.

Yelp
Eating here made me feel like I was eating at my mother's house. Delicious, Tasted so Home made! Definitely a GO-TO restaurant if you're in Tijuana B.C

Juan A.

Yelp
This a place that has the best Mexican style breakfast. You will need to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour to get a table, but the wait is worth. They also serve lunch and dinner and their desserts are one of the best.

Vanessa G.

Yelp
My grandma and I love this place. Authentic Mexican food is a must. I have been coming here for dinner since I was a little girl. The food continues to be delicious. It never has disappointed. Next time you find yourself in Tijuana stop by for the best enchiladas suizas. Maybe some flautas you will love it till the last bite.

Sami L.

Yelp
This place smacks. Great food, GREAT service, and great prices. The cafe de Jolla is BOMB! Chilaquiles con salsa verde (huevos estrellados) were DELICIOUS. I add extra chili on mine, which made it even mas rica. I would like to come back and try the enchiladas, but they weren't making them at this particular time. The wait was a little long, but do-able because the service and the food were EXCEPTIONAL. This is a place I will routinely be back to!

Mylene C.

Yelp
WOW! Literally THEE BEST HUEVOS AHOGADOS EVER!!! Everything just came together in perfect deliciousness! From the sauce to the beans, potatoes and fresh tortillas and afterwards ordered an amazing carrot cake and homemade vanilla ice cream If you are in TJ, I highly recommend dining here.. not only excellent food but amazing attentive service and prices

Paty C.

Yelp
We had breakfast at this awesome restaurant. Highly recommend it. Great food and phenomenal ambience.

Lorena L.

Yelp
Muy buen servicio Comida muy rica Excelente servicio Buena ubicación Es la primera vez y vamos a regresar!!

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This place always draws a large crowd, even more so on weekends. Not being from the area we usually stop by on weekends, so expect a wait time. First off must have their Café de Olla you can also do 1/2 1/2. Half reg coffee half olla. During COVID they have about half capacity if not less indoor seating in a large space and a list for wait they also offer take out. Upon entry they have shoe sanitation and hand sanitizer. They also take temp. Must do the chilaquilles, The red chile are just good. The Chipotle are too creamy for me. Comes with country potatoes which are ok. And beans. The chorizo is yummy I tried it on the side. My gf had the machaca and that's her favorite dish. To drink I have an icy chocomilk I get it like "frappè style" V delicious.

Michael L.

Yelp
I don't understand the love for this place. The food is mediocre, not cheap and is over-salted. We had taquitos and BBQ ribs, both of which were incredibly salty. The service is good but the food is not recommended.

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
If you appreciate authentic Mexican food this is the place you need to visit, from the moment you enter you are greeted and welcomed in. Food delicious and worth every $$$ , very affordable for the quality and ambiance. I had the cheese enchiladas with a cafe de olla.

Frank B.

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent food and ambiance! , classic cultural menu offerings that compliment the most distinguished palates...

Sara M.

Yelp
Every time i come to TJ this place is a MUST!! The cafe de olla is bomb as well as the rajas! This time around I got the chilaquiles and they were sooooo yummy. Their potatoes are unmatched, in my opinion. Everyone who works is amazing & each time i have never been disappointed. Hopefully will go back to TJ soon and make a stop here because i miss them already :)

Gloria L.

Yelp
Lover this place it's so delicious the chilaquiles are the Best , a must try for Breakfast!!

lety f.

Yelp
This place will forever hold a special place in my heart. This was my dad's and my favorite restaurant. We'd have conversations over plenty cups of the café de olla. One time he stopped drinking the café because he was afraid he would be too full to enjoy one of our other favorite's, the Espadaña Omelette. Staff was always friendly and food was just as great. Since my dad passed my family and I frequent their sister restaurant, Achiote, in San Ysidro. Same great café de olla like my dad and I would enjoy together. Customer for life.

Yum Y.

Yelp
This place is awesome. They are mainly known for their breakfast and open at 07:30 am. For this weekend my group revisit this place. The experience was even better. We had great customer service and the food was delicious. I order the chilaqueles verde with a sunny side egg on top. Now you can have it with Queso Cotija, Queso Fresco and my best melted Queso Oaxaca. We also order Menudo Rojo, Spinish Omelettes, and a Desayuno Americano. I attach pictures of our experience and let alone you MUST HAVE !!! Cafe de la Hoya .... Yummmmmmy, Wooooooow. Your amigo Yum Yum

Arleene H.

Yelp
Big portions, good taste, recommended Came here a while back so I don't remember well how the service was

Abel T.

Yelp
This is one of best places in tijuana for breakfast and lunch not a hipster place for dinner but the food sure is great. The only pis you should be patient with the wait time its very popular and its worth the wait.fresh hand made tortillas great machaca. Delicious omelets. 5 stars.

Dung N.

Yelp
We stopped here to get some breakfast on our way to Valle de Guadalupe. There are some pretty hanging roses near the entrance and a place to take photos in the back area if you want to kill some time. I didn't know that there was going to be such a long wait, so one of my friends was getting dizzy... It was neat to see the chefs grilling some of the food in the main dining room, but we were seated in a covered patio where all the children were LOL. They offer fresh cafe de olla with free refills- I normally don't drink coffee, but this was pretty good! For food, I ordered the pozole and my friends got the omelette rajas, chilaquiles, burritos, and a fruit plate. I'm glad we didn't have to wait too long for our entrees to arrive. My pozole looked divine! They gave me all the fixings and this dish was very rich and flavorful. The burritos came in 3's and looked more like rolled tacos made with flour tortillas. The fruit plate was a refreshing treat! Service was very attentive. We were checked up on often with smiling faces.

Steve J.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and delicious food. We eat here frequently and have enjoyed nearly everything we have tried. They provide great customer service too!

Annaisa M.

Yelp

Yelp
Great food and service! Cafe de olla was amazing and the chilaquiles! Salsas we're delish as well! The steak had great flavor!

Evy A.

Yelp
Beat Mexican Kitchen south of the border... a welcome into a slice of heaven with homemade tortillas and salsa for breakfast, lunch, brunch or . Make a quick morning stop here and U will always have a perfect start to your day.

Fernando R.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast. Plenty of traditional choices. Tried the Chilaquiles with mole, eggs and skirt steak. They were delicious. Although they seem to be busy all the time, the wait moves quickly - well worth the wait.

Melany N T.

Yelp
This place is amazing, must try!!!! Great food, great service, great prices. Payed $11 for a plate of enchiladas with a sparkling lemonade. The service was great, very fast and professional. Highly recommend!

Lily T.

Yelp
Best cafe de olla. Wait time is worth it. You can order coffee to go while u wait and save your receipt and get free refills while dining in. Our waiter was amazing.

David P.

Yelp
We waited 30 + minutes and there was a line. The reviews on yelp seems like the place is very good. This place I give it 1 star for the cleanliness. The food is horrible. The beef dish was cold! The potatoes were cold, the beans were cold, the beef was cold. I don't know if they cooked it ahead. The menudo was gamy like the it was not cleaned well. There's no taste, just the red color. The coffee Ola, I had better. I don't understand how they got a 4.5 stars! I hate spending money on food that is horrible. The service was not bad.

Erika S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with very authentic cuisine. Definitely recommend the enchiladas de mole. So good, had to come back the following morning for brunch. Great service from our waiter.

Stephen P.

Yelp
I'm giving this five stars instead of four even though I had one complaint: too much sauce on the enchiladas, and it was a little spicy for my taste. But some prefer a spicy edge and will probably love it. I ordered the chicken enchilada plate (three), which came with white Spanish rice and refried beans. The chicken was delicious, moist dark meat. Perfect. The enchiladas came topped with jack cheese and spicy green sauce. Chips with red and green sauce (also spicy) were complimentary. There's a Mexican menu and a separate meat entree menu, available in Spanish or English. Prices were reasonable, and service was quick and friendly. A huge improvement in quality compared to most of what you get in Virginia!
