The 25 Best Restaurants In San Sebastián - San Sebastián - The Infatuation

"When a bar predates color TV and is still packed all day, you know it must be good. That’s the case with La Espiga, which opened in 1928 and is currently run by the fourth generation of the founding family. It’s located on a pedestrian shopping street that includes the world’s busiest Zara (don’t let that deter you), and it’s usually packed with both locals and tourists who all have a glass of wine in one hand and a pintxo in the other. Be sure to order the specialty, la delicia, a toast of cured anchovy with hard-boiled egg, vinegary onions, and a dollop of mayonnaise (get it with a splash of Worcestershire). And definitely try one of the fried bites, like veal with cheese, meat-stuffed peppers, and lamb brain that’s marinated, battered, and served piping hot." - marti buckley

We went for some pre-dinner pintxos and we really enjoyed La Espiga. Good wine, yummy tapas and quick service. The Gildas and anchovie pintxos with mayo and onion were our favourites. Liked the ambiance too!

Stopped here on the off-chance we might be able to get a snack and we were in luck. It was late lunchtime and the place was packed with locals. We found a couple of seats towards the back and enjoyed a couple of drinks, pintxos and cheesecake. The cheesecake was the best we tasted on our trip to Bilbao and San Sebastian. It was reasonable value too.

Much quieter than the spots in the old town. I walked past this place several times hoping to try their speciality, the 'delicia', but couldn't see it on the menu outside. Don't miss out, as they serve it by the counter! The outside menu only lists their hot Pintxos. The Delcia can be seen on the right. a slice of bread with two thin slices of hard-boiled egg, salt-cured anchovy, and a finely chopped mixture of onion and garlic on top, finished with a dash of Worcestershire sauce. It was exquisite! 👌🏻

This place is classic San Sebastián. Easy service, exceptional food, quick and attentive what else is there to say… torta la Bonita phenomenal. Every bite was excellent had to go two days in a row

We visited twice during our stay. Once for afternoon coffee and once for Pintxos in the early evening. The modern decor is comfortable but the venue is one of the oldest. The coffee is smooth and the selection of Pintxos is good. The best pintxo was the barman's suggestion of stuffed pepper. The others including a strange bacalao mixture with sultanas are not as tasty, but the staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is very welcoming. This is the only place we noticed that had wheelchair access and wheelchair users were made very welcome. A very inclusive place and overall very good and recommend you ask for their suggestions to get the best.

Very typical bodega in Salamanca! Pintxos were very good! Very busy all the time, had to wait for table. Location is very central

Google
This location was a recommendation from a friend. Tapas are a great feature of most of the local bars in San Sebastián and this was no exception. We had several tapas and all were very good. The wine selection was great for a warm afternoon. The service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
What a gem of a place, definitely did not seem like a touristy spot despite it being in the heavily trafficked shopping area. Not that it matters much, at the end of the day, good food is good food. The food here was great, newfound appreciation for anchovies. Not the regular salted ones, but boquerones. It's labeled anchoa on the menu, but it's boquerones. Get the Anchoa Getaria, it is unreal. Little vinegary, some sweetness, but the toasted garlic really puts it over the top. Found this place early in our stay and made sure to stop by at least once a day. Also tried the mushroom dish (champignons) and rice with clams (almejas), which were both great, but the star of the show were the boquerones. Service was also above par, very nice and helpful. Get off the beaten path of the old town, get some steps in, you'll be glad you did. Last thing, we missed our chance at their paella. They only make it on weekends I believe, gotta get there before 3PM if i remember correctly. When they run out, they run out.

Yelp
The best local food restaurant in town, no need to visit any starred restaurant. Fish is cooked to perfection, head-chef is a grilled-fish master. We also tried "entrecot", boneless stake, we loved it. When eating downstairs, in the restaurant, you can still order Pintxos: delicia, antxoas guetaria, Ensaladilla Rusa. We only saw locals eating here what tells you how authentic this place is.

Yelp
Fantastic food. Amazing service ! Try the barcel'o rum . Amazing simply amazing. The tapas was simply put to die for. If you visit here and don't go to the place you have missed out.

Yelp
Had the solomillo and jalisco here. Jalisco was ok, nothing memorable. Solomillo was quite good. Lovely medium rare on the steak, deliciously seasoned and juicy. The mushroom sauce was wonderfully savory. The potato wedges were perfectly constructed and lightly fried to crispy perfection.

Yelp
Biased because our Airbnb was right across from this place so we ate here a ton (including getting pinxos to go to eat on the beach) and it was solid. Awesome pinxo collection, good hot food as well, and really nice staff. It's not as epic as some of the spots in old town but definitely a favorite with the locals. If you're nearby it's the best in the area and worth checking out.

Yelp
Fair local restaurant in the pedestrian San Marcial area. The food is good, and the place welcomes local people as weeks tourists. Enjoyable for a lunch or Pintxos ! There are few tables so you may have to be patient ! We had a typical home-made desser "copa rueda especia" : make sure to taste it for goat yogurt lovers, with honey !
