20 Iconic Dishes That Define Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"There's an argument to be made that Miami's favorite sandwich isn't the cuban sandwich, but the pan con bistec. And Miami’s best example of a traditional pan con bistec is found at Mary’s Coin Laundry, which is also one of Miami’s best examples of a ventanita. The steak is juicy, the onions are lightly sauteed, and the ketchup and mayo are the literal and figurative glue that holds the sandwich together." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino

Google
This place has an incredible selection of fresh hot food, sandwiches to order, colada, fresh fruit, pastries, etc. We ordered 3 Pan con Bistec that were so delicious. We also got a plate of fried rice, also spectacular! I’d recommend anything from here because it all looks so delicious! Their colada is very yummy!

Google
I love when I find these treasures that Miami offers . This little place offers 24 hour service plus hot good cuban coffee for $2.25!! Can’t beat that! And of course , the staff was so friendly and welcoming !

Google
A sketchy area for tourists but the food is delicious!! I recommend visiting during the day if you're from out of town and want to try some authentic cuban sandwiches. This place has been here for a long time, and they have kept their prices low and their food fresh. You can't beat the mamey smoothie and a papa rellena (potato ball stuffed with sausage and fried) while you wait for your sandwich to come out.

Google
I will give a 3 stars because even the new location have a seating area and the service wasn’t bad but the food come not as we ordered

Google
It was a 24 hour spot and the women in there was working hard. It’s an outside corner joint no sitting. The food was average, I just gave 5 stars for the convenience, location, all woman working together and diligently.

Google
Delicious pan con bistec (steak sandwich)!! It was tender and juicy, love the cuban bread. They make it in front of you, they made it so fast! Ordered and was out of there in under 8 mins. It's on a busy street, there's street parking, the building also has a parking lot to the right on 12th ave. Great experience, will definitely be returning.

Google
You can't always judge a food place by its cover. They are just a walk up counter, nowhere to sit and eat but great pan con bistec. These are 2 little old ladies working who are the kindest, friendliest people I have met. They have intentions of opening more little shops in little Havana. Parking sucks as it is street parking, it is only a walk up counter. They have a few items on their menu but all I can account for is their pan con bistec. It was very good, the steak was cooked differently than I'm used to eating at hispanic places, I believe if my palate isn't lying to me that they use oregano to season it. The one thing I did not like is that they add ketchup to their sandwiches and I wasn't aware they did until after, it was fine I still ate it but beware, if you don't like ketchup on your pan con bistec then make sure to ask them not to add it!!!! And well the prices can't be beat.

Yelp
I wish there were half stars on here. It's higher than a 3, but not quite a 4. The storefront is small, but brightly colored. You walk in to a long walkway. The entire restaurant is set up like a diner with a counter at which you sit. The painting on the back wall is colorful with many artful Cuban images. They have a tv that was playing music videos. Some of the videos displayed guys singing/rapping while girls wearing thongs washed cars. Each video had a similar theme. That being said, if you have your kids with you and you're at all concerned about your kids seeing stuff like this, go elsewhere. The ladies behind the counter were hard at work preparing food, taking orders, and making coffee and other drinks. I ordered a Cuban sandwich. I should have ordered the sandwich for which they are famous, but I didn't want steak so there we were. The sandwich took a bit longer than I expected, but it was pretty good when I received it. It was a little heavy on the ham and sauce, but otherwise it was very good. The pulled pork was on point.

Yelp
Came here for a quick bit a few times. It's a vibrant outdoor service space. The server was nice and with my limited Spanish I was able to order. Depending on what you get it may take about 10-15 minutes. They do get busy and people seem to love their coffee. If you're not a coffee drinker I would recommend their mango smoothie! Their pan con bistec (steak sandwich) is so good. Get it as is. Their pastelitos (Cuban pastries) are simply okay. I don't like the cheese they use for their Cuban toast and cheese.

Yelp
This place is great, it's so authentic that just like the name it carries it's a small place on a corner street. The food is amazing, the service is very casual and fast, but it's good. I've never been disappointed. It's also opened late at night which is great if you're really hungry. I definitely recommend this place for locals or even tourists.

Yelp
Delicious empanadas! [Miami FL] La Esquina is their original store and is a little corner sandwich shop on SW 12th Avenue and W Flagler Street. We stopped by to get a quick snack before heading out to Little Havana on 8th Street. They are a walk up counter and no table seating to eat. Street parking only (if you can find one) and trying to find one can be challenging and downright frustrating... "I just want my empanadas!!" LoL! They offered authentic traditional Cuban sandwiches and Pan Con Bistec. We had already planned to have lunch at Calle Ocho so we just bought empanadas and stuffed potato ball. Now I regret not trying their Pan Con Bistec as I've heard they make the best, like how the Cuban immigrants used to make it. In our experience here we purchased two chicken empanadas, one meat empanada and a Papa rellena estilo Cuba (Cuban stuffed potato). The employees didn't speak much English but we were able to catch on. If I'm ever back in Miami this would be my second food place to stop. Review #2889

Yelp
This place sucks Looks nasty and unsanitized The staff is rude as fuck I waited 20 minutes for a pan con bistec and it was sloppy looking ended up, throwing it away

Yelp
I ordered several pan con bistec sandwiches for my staff at work and a media noche sandwich. Each sandwich was about $10 on Uber eats. The sandwiches were a good portion. The pan con bistec had ver soft Cuban bread and the steak was thin and easy to eat with great seasoning. Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches!

Yelp
This place is amazing, the prices are very reasonable. My first trying this spot was back in 2013 when my sister lived nearby. I would go after the Marlins games. Every time I am in town, that's my go to spot for Cuban coffee. The steak sandwich is very tasty. They also have good guava strudels and smoothies.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. This place is busy so you might have to wait just a few minutes. The croquetas are 95 cents each and double the length than regular ones. What a steal!! They are very very thin crusted and soft. That means mostly filling.

Yelp
Best Pan con Bistec in Miami! I've tried a lot of places in Florida and in general, but this definitely takes the win.

Yelp
I'm from CA and have been hearing about how Cuban bread bistek with meat been done locally. Of course this is the only chance I can taste the local authentic Cuban style empanadas . Lol my wife o believe had the plane croissant and maybe a beef empanada and I had both chicken and beef. Yea I should've got other bread but we were on a time crunch for suppose to be a walking tour in little Havana. I ate the empanadas later at our resort and All of them was very delicious. It's different and juicy as well. Not dry like what I taste here in CA. It's different good. The only thing I can advise is this is a corner store / bakery and don't have a sit down dining area. It's popular with the locals and if you're expecting to have a sit down chow down ... it'll be in your car.

Yelp
This place slaps the bad reviews are customers expecting restaurant service at a ventanita. Sure it can be rough around the edges but that doesn't take away from the fact that this place is a gem. Food tastes great and the vibe is exactly what I'm used to as a Cuban Miami native

Yelp
Yummy sandwiches!! We walked 6 miles round trip to find an authentic Cuban sandwich and this was great!

Yelp
Review # 850. The name of this restaurant is literally means the corner of steak sandwiches. It is located at the corner of, where else, Flagler and SW12th Ave in Miami. There is no place to sit down, the counter literally is at the edge of the business lease line. Your place your order, get your food and sit if there is a stool available. On the day that my wife and I went there, I ordered a Cuban sandwich, of which I was told that they were out of the delicious Cuban pork for the sandwich. Who in their right mind runs out of this ingredient for a key item on their menu. Very disappointed about this. My wife ordered a steak sandwich, which is their namesake. We got both sandwiches, went back to our hotel room, and had lunch. I must say both sandwiches were very delicious, even the Cuban without the pork. Definitely worth a try when you are in Miami. Just make sure to ask them to make sure that they have pork for the Cuban sandwiches. I'll give them a second chance in the future.

Yelp
If your thinking about eating here, save yourself the disappointment & go somewhere else. These ladies working there are running this business to the ground. They talk to each other the whole time and forget you are there waiting. I was standing there after ordering my pan con bistec for literally 20min. And I'm the only one in line. The cashiers excuse is that they decided to clean the grill in the middle of me placing my order. The attitude they give you says a lot for this place,

Yelp
Best Steak Sandwich in Miami. Definitely a staple in Miami. Legendary Late Night Bite. A Must Have!

Yelp
Great service and excellent food. The place is very authentic, atmosphere is excellent

Yelp
I been here twice. Both times like around 4am. I believe this place has satisfied our late night munchies; not to mention it does have a variery of options in the menu, including breakfast, at any given time. It is specialized in sandwiches, wraps and smoothies. The food is ok, however, it's worth also to mention that the prices are below average, which makes it even better.

Yelp
I was really craving a pan con bistec and they had a fast walk up counter outside that made me a fresh pan con bistec. Steak was juicy and the sandwich had the "papitas". It was fast and delicious. This place has been here for 70 years and they have not changed their menu. This place is a must try in Miami.

Yelp
Place takes extremely long to complete orders, when a pan con bistec is done is 5 mins top, food is mediocre at best. Does not answer the phone.

Yelp
This place is famous for there Mojitos and the buffet style food. They have a live Spanish band that plays while your enjoying your hot meal. The service was polite & fast. I enjoyed everything about this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible service they have two people working shouting random orders with no system at all. I don't understand how you can ru a business with such incompetence. The food is also not even good. Hashtag Mierda.

Yelp
Outstanding breakfast, truly authentic Miami desayuno; the area isn't the Hilton or Miami Beach, it's working class Miami. Great prices, walk up counter, standing only. I recommend it highly if you are in the area.

Yelp
This is the real deal ... outstanding sandwiches and service ... beware no tables just counter without seats .. come for the sandwich stay for the Cortado

Yelp
Came here the other night for some Cuban coffee. I asked for two cafecitos (one for me and one for my grandpa) the guy behind the counter gave us two little shots of coffee instead and charged us $1.50! What!? That's how much it costs for the two cafecitos I originally asked for. Also the place is filled with homeless people which is not a problem unless they are all coming at you one by one relentlessly asking for money and/or food. My grandpa bought one of them a pastry and we got swarmed with them and we got followed back to our car with one of them tapping my window asking for more! I know they can't control this as it's just that part of town but it was on a ridiculous level. I'll sum up the whole experience in the 6 words my grandpa used to describe it: "This is a fucked up place!"
google avatar

Tatiana C.

Yelp
They used to have the best pan con bistec in the city but a couple of years ago they changed the cook and it just hasn't been the same. I went today and the girl put ketchup in my pan con bistec bro...ketchup.

Yelp
Excellent Cuban sandwich! I appreciate the fact that they're open 24 hours a day. Was disappointed that they had run out of frites, but I understood.

Ohagi D.

Yelp
Early in the morning, I was told that postmates pick up didn't exist, seemed like the employee was frustrated and not willing to do anything so early in the morning.

Tony B.

Yelp
These people put ketchup in the croqueta preparada! Ketchup! Totally ruined it. Not to mentioned the bread wasn't even toasted and the meat quality was poor. Don't want money or time.
