Nolita Restaurant Zooba Is NYC’s Next Must-Try Fast-Casual Restaurant | Eater NY

"Across the street sits La Esquina, which I consider a mediocre taco spot." - Ryan Sutton

Google
What a gem! A true find! A local eatery in East Oakland right on the corner of 99th and Macarthur. Family run serving Mexican food. The hand made tortillas make it worth the trip. The food was good. Had a homemade feel to it. The atmosphere made it feel like you stepped into an eatery in Mexico. Rustic and colorful. The place closes at 6:00 pm but may stay open longer once there are more people in the area. The signboard is misleading. The name says Taqueria de Maria. I believe it belonged to the previous owners.

Google
I love this place. It's small and cozy The service is very great And the food is freaking delicious. Also the agua fresca is to awesome Moises and his Tia are very friendly and welcoming

Google
There should be a line out the door at all times from this place. Everything I have ordered has been amazing, you can tell they really care about making good food. The birria is super flavorful, tender, and served with handmade tortillas. Incredible.

I ate here a few weeks ago, and I still think about it. The serving size was huge. The food was super tasty and filling. The staff was very friendly and made my two-year-old son feel very comfortable, and the ambiance was relaxed. TLDR: everything about this place was great, and I highly recommend it if you like Mexican food

Google
La Esquina (Taquerina La Esquina) is a hidden gem that you should absolutely try with amazing Mexican food. While taking an Uber from the Coliseum to the restaurant, my Uber driver (who works for FedEx) told me this restaurant was amazing. On the owner’s recommendation, I ordered the quesabirria tacos and a Coke at the window and then sat down at a table on their covered patio. The meal itself was perfectly cooked, and the atmosphere was low key in the absolute best way. All in all, the meal reminded me of many local neighborhood restaurants in Nogales and Hermosillo. If you are nearby, and want amazing authentic Mexican food, stop in and enjoy.

Google
Stopped here for a quick dinner before an Oakland Zoo visit. Excellent food and service! Great vegan and vegetarian options. Tasty horchata. Simple and small location made for no lines and only wait was for fresh good prep.

Google
Birria tacos were outstanding

Does not open when it says it does. Supposedly open 10 minutes ago on a Wednesday but there's no one there and it's dark inside.

Yelp
Amazing super delicious food, the horchata and aqua Fresca is so delicious and fresh. It's a pretty good vibe here. The people are so swift and kind. Burrito is super on point!

Yelp
La Esquina Taqueria (located in East Oakland, Ca) is the epitome of a hidden gem Mexican restaurant. If you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine that is simply divine, then this is the place to go. Service is top notch and the ambiance is pretty cool. We decided to try the Camerones A la Diabla, a regular burrito, sope, and tacos. Let me tell you, they were all absolutely incredible. The Camerones a la diabla had a delightful freshness to it, with a mouthwatering red sauce. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, and the rice and beans were out of this world. We indulged in two tacos, one with tender chicken (pollo) and the other with flavorful al pastor pork. Both were heavenly, especially with the combination of onions, cilantro, and salsa. Trying the sope for the first time was a revelation. The combination of the crispy masa base, onions, tomatoes, and al pastor meat was absolutely heavenly. As for the burrito, we opted for the asada meat. Our daughters couldn't get enough of the burritos and thoroughly enjoyed them. This place is truly amazing and a must-visit Mexican restaurant if you find yourself in the Oakland Area. Also feel free to check out our youtube vlog (details below). Yelp
Caveat: for what I got, a solid 3.5. But warning for future-me to check whether tostadas and salsa/hot sauces actually made it into the takeout bag to avoid a repeat of the sad-me who wants to rate 3 stars. But anyone can make a mistake so will consider one more try. The ceviche tostada was missing the crunchy tostada today, so I got just a nice serving of shrimp in a tasty, medium spiced tomato sauce and maybe quarter of an avocado (I ordered it with guac). I guess that would be good if I were Keto? I never. The veggie sope was solid, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, crema on top of thick sope. I ordered guac on top and got a quarter avocado diced here, so I ended up with half an avocado total. Sadly, did not get any hot sauce to kick it up so I decided to take home for a late snack. Note to self to use condiments before leaving premises. Agua Frescas: the Jamaica had a little smell - maybe soap? Maybe skip. But the pepino limon one was perfect. No ice to dilute the flavor!

Yelp
First time here and I can tell I love it already! Ordered takeout. Everything was packaged in a sturdy paper bag. Staff was kind and attentive. Seating area is intimate, nice and cozy! Seating is in an enclosed patio, so there isn't much noise from the road. Clean, well spaced. I'd love to be hear with a beer and tacos. Next time I'll stay! I was craving a Diabla camarones burrito and they had no issue making it even though it wasn't on the menu! Double wrapped, nice and tight, it was hot throughout with good rice texture and the flavors were amazing! Enjoyable warmth and flavor, salsa upped the heat a bit :) loved the juiciness to the burrito so good from beginning to last bite! I also ordered the menudo for later. The tortillas are a nice size and look handmade! I appreciate the chili oil and how well it was packaged for travel. This place seems like a neighborhood gem. Surprised it wasn't busier!

Yelp
Mushy no flavor rice. Gross mayo dressing on the salad. Exstra charges even whe you are taking things off for custom. No fountain drinks, no chips

Yelp
Food took a while.... 20+ minutes for a take out order with 1 order ahead of mine. Person behind me looked a little impatient too. And I wish the music was a touch quieter. Made the wait a little worse. The nachos were a huge disappointment, the asada was dry and flavorless and kind of mushy? They also skimped on sour cream and jalapeños and cheese (nacho sauce, not real cheese), and overall a small portion. The regular quesadilla was fine, beans kind of flavorless though, but my kids liked it. The burrito was the best, but unfortunately I won't be returning, even if it's only because of an occasional trip to the zoo. The sitting area was great though! Hidden and walled up so you feel safer.

Yelp
Perfect size burrito great taste, and awesome customer service. Gentlemen that took my order had no more can sodas and gave me an upgrade with a bottle Coca-Cola.

Yelp
It was delicious and the server was very nice. I wish the burrito had a bit more meat but it was very flavorful and I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
La esquina Taqueria takes over where Mi Zacatecas was. taqueria la tia is the posted signage on the corner sign. offerings: tacos, burriots, sopes, enchiladas, nachos, birria, drinks. eats: al pastor, lengua tacos @2.50 -the re-grilled proteins had a nice flavour agumented by the cilantro, onions, radish, lime squeeze, salsa and hot sauce. the house made freshness of the corn tortillas is a plus. tostada de ceviche (6.50) -crunchy tostada filled with quacamole, bits of shrimps, tomatos, cilantro, etc. yummy, fresh. flatscreen tuned to mexican television.

Yelp
Chargers $5 extra for avocado but if they are out of Avocados and it's comes standard on your torta they offer no substitution or price reduction. Bad value. Decent food.

Cameron P.

Yelp
Outstanding little taqueria. Hand made tortillas, outstanding meats, and large portions. The place is very clean and the customer service is fantastic. I've ordered about 12 different items and all have been incredible. Usually get the quesabirria.

Yelp
Amazing food and great service super recommend Especially like the guys in here really care about their customer. The new place and they're working very hard. Everything is delicious. I had the shrimp fish tackle. It was absolutely right on guys.

Yelp
Grilled chicken super burrito, light rice, extra sour cream, green sauce on the side..this place smacks! Picture? Too late! I devoured this burrito before I thought to take a pic. Customer service on point, these ppl are nice, and I like what they did with their dining area. If you're on this side of Oakland I highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
Little hole in wall spot. We love the tacos and Menudo. We only order on weekends as it is our lazy days and no cooking. We haven't tried the whole menu but we are faithful with tacos and menudo.
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
We popped in looking for a quick lunch before heading to the zoo. Our drinks and food arrived quickly. My beef burrito was huge and delicious. It was regular sized too. Their super burrito must be massive. Quaint, "mom & pop", neighborhood feel. We left full & happy.

Maya C.

Yelp
i frequent here as it is neighboring my home. always friendly & great food. quesabirria is delicious as usual

Destinie T.

Yelp
Great service and the food never disappoints. Family owned business and they treat their customers like family!

Yelp
This is a new restaurant, has only been open for a week, they are off to a good start. I enjoyed a night out at this restaurant on 1/31/2020, I had much fun due to the friendly employees and the atmosphere. I also notice the owners, a young couple, pitching in to help as needed. This showed me that they care about their customers. The food was delicious and prepared to your order. I had cactus salsa for the first time and I liked it; wow : - )!!! To the owners: Keep up the good work, I'm sure your business will be a success.

Nat R.

Yelp
My favorite (and kinda only) neighborhood spot! Friendly and authentic. The food is delicious. I shouldn't really need to say much more than *handmade tortillas.* I've been really into the sopes lately.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Service is great here! The food & salsas were good! Ordered a asada burrito, chicken burrito, & steak fries. All was delicious. Clean and good ambiance, feels humble and homeish. Give them a try!

Kuturi P.

Yelp
You guys really need to do better I got menudo on the weekend as I normally do and it has been good but why give me just juice????? When I tell you it was scraps at the bottom Just say you all out - don't serve bullshit please

Jeremy O.

Yelp
The food was really good moyses (sorry if I spelled it wrong) gave us the best experience the best customer service I've ever received if ima be honest this was the best quesabirria I ever had I would actually recommend this place to anyone.

Kate C.

Yelp
Delicious food and lovely people!!! Shrimp plate was especially delicious! Outdoor covered eating area was great!
google avatar

Gloria P.

Yelp
I was disappointed when Mi Zatecas moved out but Le Esquina is great in their own right. Very fresh and flavorful. The sopas were delicious and the pineapple in the al pastor was yummy. So glad to have you in our neighborhood!

Mary M.

Yelp
Great tacos! I got them with handmade tortillas. I had a language and an asada. Each came with a mild and fresh tasting green salsa. The beans were delicious. The staff were friendly. I went on my way to the zoo and I don't live nearby but I sure hope to go back to try the doors and the ceviche tostada.
google avatar

paytie m.

Yelp
we asked for extra cilantro and these were some of the best tacos i have ever had. they were super affordable too! we went back a few days later and ordered the same thing but with rice and beans and i guess they misunderstood and put them in the taco but it was still really good even though it wasn't what we ordered

Alisa L.

Yelp
Delicious food. Homemade tortillas. Fresh ingredients. Family run. Will definitely be back.

Sean M.

Yelp
You could miss this place if you don't look closely. But make sure to find it. Well trafficked in the afternoon on the weekends. Quaint place with nice employees. Food was tasty and affordable.

Yelp
-- A little dirty, two ladies in the kitchen with dirty clothes and also working and eating at the same time, the burrito arrived cold at my table and the lady took the straw without protection and with her hands she took the money and did not wash it before, I think you need more hygiene.
google avatar

Kish K.

Yelp
The food is fresh and tasty. You have to try the guacamole. I had the burrito and my husband had the tacos with the fresh rolled tortillas. It was to die for. The salsas are also very flavorful. Definitely worth a visit.

David F.

Yelp
This spot is just getting started but they have a good variety of authentic dishes, kind service, and is in a place in dire need of restaurants. I especially recommend the enchiladas, sopes, and weekend specials.

antonio p.

Yelp
Very sad to say I love the food I order here just sucks how I place a order to go and wen I get there 20 minutes later one of the lady's is by the tables talking while the other lady is clearly trying to get things done ... as soon as I ask for my order the lady gets up and clearly starts to make it THIS IS THE 5th time they do this to me just to wait another 25 minutes outside what a joke ???? What kind of online order is that ... clearly they have zero customer service I'll gladly take my business somewhere else ...sad way to run a business
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh, friendly. The sopes are fantastic, and the guacamole is made fresh when you order it. I miss Zacatecas but this is a very worthy successor to the space. Thrilled to have this within walking distance of my house!

Dominique W.

Yelp
Total hood location. Flautas are not on the menu but if you ask you'll get them. Off the chain!! Will be back...worth it.

Tasha T.

Yelp
I purchased a half shrimp half al pastor super burrito (sour cream and cheese = "Super") and I paid $17.00. Either these people can't add or this is highway robbery. I wasn't going to argue because this is a pandemic and people need to eat. But I will NEVER go there again. I will tell Gabby and Javi that I will NEVER eat there again.

Yez M.

Yelp
Food was alright, ordered 15 ahead of time and had to wait another 10 was not full. plenty of other locations to go to for the price.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
I came looking for the restaurant that was used to be here and decided to give this new taqueria a try. I'm so glad I did - the food is so so good. The carne asada tacos with the handmade tortillas are making my mouth water as I type. They make everything from scratch and even the rice is special - very fresh and flavorful. They're struggling to get the word out, and I really hope more people catch on so they stick around.

Lalo E.

Yelp
Never been here but I hate that girl Lori L. Mensa de la pendeja for leaving a review without even trying the food. #wypipo

L V.

Yelp
Sorry... the menu is over priced. There are SOOO many good and reasonably price Mexican restaurants in east Oakland that i wont be trying this place. Good luck with your business though.

Che S.

Yelp
Pretty food quesadilla. Huge portions. Great fun for this place because there is not much else around close by.

Nigel D.

Yelp
the food is just ok this is traditional Mexican faire. The price for eating in is outrageous. Your looking at 20 dollars just to eat in at a questionable location. I wanted to love this place.
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
very good food so flavorful and tasteful love the tacos and enchiladas here the pineapple in the pastor makes the tacos so tasty this restaurant makes you feel very welcomed and at home also love the sopes here because they make them by hand i recommend this place all the way!!!!!
