Montreal’s Best Bakeries for Bread | Eater Montreal

"Arhoma is somewhat of a Montreal success story when it comes to bringing artisanal bread to the masses. What started as a tiny boutique in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve in 2007 has become a familiar brand that you can find in many grocery stores across the city, or even get delivered right to your door." - Mallory Frayn

Google
Beautiful shop with lots of goodies. The service is friendly and efficient. Their Noeud choco-noisette is to die for!! 100% recommend

Google
Nice cafe/shop atmosphere. They bake all their pastries fresh in house. I piece a spicy decaf latte with soy milk. Really nice of them to customize my drink how they did. I think this place would be next level if they welcomed people more. Like seating, wifi, more outgoing, friendly service.

Google
Lots of bread, sandwiches, pastries and some cold cheeses, along with pantry items like coffee beans, jams, etc. Yes, it takes a while to get my coffee sometimes but it's always good! There's only a few spots to eat inside and no patio, so mainly a take away spot. They have vegan croissants so that's always a bonus for those that need it. There's lots of choice so it's hard to choose as everything looks so good!

Google
Very cozy and warm café. I didn't notice any seating but the fresh product, the energy cookies were absolutely divine. It's a café I'll visit again. The only feedback is how long it took to warm up 2 sandwiches, felt as if I waited for quite a while. Updated Their pastry and service is excellent. Every time I go this place is busy.

Google
The place has lots of bakery items that I have no idea what to select. In the end I choose the cheesecake since it looks different from what I eat before. I have to say that the flavor is not so amazing but it tastes good. The only complaint is that I have no seat to eat inside the place.

Google
Such a good bakery with delicious baked options ranging from loaves of chocolate bread to almond croissants and other delights. My wife and friend and I went there in the morning to get chai lattes and pastries which we ate and drank there, then we bought more to bring back to the hotel and for our journey home.

Google
What a great bakery and they have great coffee! There are vegan options but I didn't try them. Everything we got was delicious and the service was amazing!!!!! SO nice and very cute inside! The one disappointment was I wanted to buy one of their shirts but they didn't have any available. That's literally my only complaint. This place was fantastic!

Google
La fabrique Arhoma 🍞 This bakery was on my list for a long time, and I made it recently. The location is quite far from my place, yet it was totally worth visiting. I got a chocolate pecan croissant for my afternoon snack and cinnamon bread loaf for the rest of the week. The croissant was chocolatey, nutty and flakey in a beautiful way and I really enjoyed it. It was perfect sweetness for a monotonous afternoon. Their small chai latte with oat milk was also nicely done! The staff was super friendly, and the service was great and fast. This place looks like a little paradise for pastry lovers. Full of a great selection of bread and dessert pastries! They just have four or five window seats, but there was no problem for me sitting there to have their food for a bit.

Yelp
Adorable little bakery with sandwiches and other delights, including small packages of grocery items. Cheese, smoked meat and various beverages in the refrigerated section, as well as quiche and whole chicken or mushroom pies to take home. They also have canned and bagged items that make good souvenirs. Delectable baked goods and great lattes.

Yelp
When looking for a coffee shop open early in this area, La Fabrique was one of the only options. Stopped here for coffee and breakfast for the family and each of us were pleased by both the drink and food items we ordered. The staff was very helpful and patient. There is also a cute little market inside as well as loaves of breads that can be purchased to go.

Yelp
Amazing vegan croissants and danishes! Lots of vegan savory items and drinks too. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Nice small pastry place. I tried their pistachio croissants, and they were wonderful. The wait time is nominal and the staff is very friendly. The latte we ordered was nice as well. Would highly recommend their croissants if you are around.

Yelp
Lovely selection of fresh coffee beans, fruity jars of compote and spreads and delicious breads and pastries. One of the few bakeries that make vegan croissants and chocolatines as well as danishes, these are sent to coffee shops across montr but the stock is limited so get it while you can.

Yelp
Love this place -- i always come here to grab some pain au chocolat and croissants! They have a wide variety of fresh bread. Wish they had a few more sweets.

Yelp
Step into this place without planning. I was in the area at around 6am and saw this place so decided to go for a coffee. To my surprise, it was an excellent bakery. So I bought a very good cappuccino with an eclair. Very good pastry. I also took to go a normal chocolatine and a vegan chocolatine. When I reached home, I ate those, couldn't tell which one was the vegan one, very good both of them. This place is definitely very good and it is worth stopping by to try their products.

Yelp
Fresh bread, sandwiches, pastries, coffee, salads and so on. Made daily. Very good and tasty. Lot of variety, sandwiches and salads can change from days to days. Open very early for workers. Good customer service with table service offered.

Yelp
I wish I had found this place before my last day in Montreal! The bread looked delicious, but I just grabbed two pastries for breakfast. The pistachio croissant was so good--flaky and filled with a sweet, nutty filling. I liked it better than the traditional almond croissants. The cheddar croissant was flaky and buttery too, but since it was cold, the cheddar kind of congealed at the bottom. I would suggest one of the other cheeses for a savory option. Definitely stop in!

Yelp
Yes, they take credit card. You open the door, and the wonderful smell of baking bread envelopes you. The workers speak both French and English. You can order pretty much any bread you'd like: ciabatta, baguettes, ficelles, seeded breads, olive breads, nut breads, and on and on and on. The best part is that the breads all have the ingredients on a card in front of them. They're all in French. Helpful hint: olive oil = huile d'olive. All purpose flour = farine blanche. Salt = sel. Leavening = levain. In this case, that's sourdough. Not too sour to be painful, but just subtle enough to lent that wonderful flavour. Basically, that's really all you need to know, because that's all they put in their bread.

Yelp
Bought a fougasse au olives , they had left an olive pit in there and i broke a tooth from it , extremely disappointed

Yelp
Wow, the perfect little bakery and coffee shop! We rented a condo in the area and as I always do, I was in search for a local café to get espresso at. This place did NOT disappoint! They have a variety of coffees, pastries, INSANELY good croissants and killer customer service. I just had a small croissant and mocha every day I was there, but it was pure bliss. You could tell it was a local favorite as every person that seemed to come in was greeted with familiarity and treated like a local. Definitelty a great place to get coffee and breakfast. They did also have some great looking breakfast sandwiches which i'll try on my next trip.

Yelp
A grand selection of breakfast foods, as well as a wide variety of vegan food (including vegan croissants, and vegan danishes). The service is great and they bring you your food which I'm not used to in a coffee shop. It is quite small and gets busy so be ready not to find somewhere to sit. As for their coffee, it was just okay. I found it to be quite bitter and not as smooth as I would've liked it. Nevertheless, I do still recommend checking this place out. I've never seen vegan danishes and croissants before, so thank you for blowing my mind!!!

Yelp
I visited Montreal over the weekend with a friend and stayed at an Airbnb close by. I stopped by twice and, being the creature of habit that I am, I ordered the same thing: a cappuccino and a chocolate croissant. I can't speak for any of the other items they sell, but they have one of best cappuccinos and chocolate croissants I've ever had. The other pastries looked equally good. One thing to note is that their seating is limited, which makes it quaint but busy when crowded. I wish I had more time to try other items they offer, but I will definitely keep them in mind when I next visit Montreal.

Yelp
Got lunch here at least once a week because it was close to my school. Everything here is really good and the prices are very fair too. Love the duck sandwich especially.

Yelp
Love this place for all the little things that I have tried! Their iced coffee is so refreshing in summer and their bakery and pastry are out of the world! Maybe a bit pricey but I think it's worth it. Seriously, I need to go back there soon!

Yelp
Located right on the corner of Papineau and Ontario, La Fabrique Arhoma is a cute bakery and boulangerie. I went there for lunch and had: - Grilled cheese with Apple slices on Multi grain/nuts bread - with my combo came a salad, Shrimp and Citrus Salad - and Abricot et Mousse aux Noisettes avec centre Praliné - limited edition Valentine's day cake I would definitely go back: To buy more pastries - they have other very interesting mixes For a loaf of pain artisanal Fabrique Arhoma is best for: A quick date as the place is quite small - solo or by 2 Grabbing snacks before hitting the bridge's traffic Full review: http://seizonal.com/2015/03/08/cake-for-1-on-valentines-day-from-fabrique-arhoma/

Yelp
This bakery was very close to my airbnb apartment, so I decided to give it a try. This is clearly a place where locals go which I love. I muddled through my order since I don't speak French, but the owner was very pleasant and patient with me. The college aged cashier spoke English and was very friendly. And the pastries? WOW. I bought the cheddar croissant, raspberry Danish, apple turnover, and cinnamon raisin Danish for my family to try. So delicious and flaky and melt in your mouth. My favorites were the cheddar croissant and raspberry Danish. This little place is amazing, highly recommend.

Yelp
For the last little bit every time I drove down Papineau to the JC bridge my eyes would focus on one place in particular: Fabrique Arhoma! So on a bright and crisp morning I set out on a nice little walk down the hill to visit and see if it was worth the distraction while driving. And it was! (Though by distraction, I'm putting it mildly, all eyes on the road, safety first, you know the drill). The shop itself is pretty tiny. For some reason I imagined it much bigger. But smaller = cosier, and the friendly staff round out the comfy factor. There are limited spots to sit and consume on site, including some nice stools along the window ledge, perfect for people watching. There's a refrigerated section, filled with exotic juices, fancy cheeses and meat pates and such. There's a bread section, a viennoiserie section, and the coffee bar. And there's a middle section filled with odds and ends. Its quite compact and if the shop is busy, you might not even notice some of the goods. And so how were the latte and chocolatine I had? Delicious enough to come back to try other goodies, including made to order breakfast sandwiches. Yum!

Yelp
Tried one of their vegan croissant at a brunch place nearby and discovered that it came from here. As soon as I did, I called to order half a dozen of croissant. I've been having a hard time trying to find a good vegan croissant and so happy I did.

Yelp
An extremely cozy and comfortable cafe offering pastries, sandwiches, cheeses and beverages. There was a minor setback in communication though; I don't speak French and they barely spoke English so my order got messed up twice I just got egg and cheese on a baguette with a side of cucumber salad. It was alright, nothing spectacular. I guess since I don't eat meat I was pretty limited. The pastries looked really good though!

Yelp
UNREAL FOOD! Freaking damn good sandwiches. My friend and I got the tuna sandwiches 2 days in a row it was so good. The pastries are equally as heavenly. The prices are a little steep, but so worth it. You get what you're paying for. Some of the staff speak limited english but they're all soso sweet and try their best. They all always smile and create a great environment. You won't be disappointed

Tanya S.

Yelp
I like their bread, not so much the pastry but they are unfriendly when you speak English and it was a strange rule for a while when they don't give you change so you need exact cash. I got a cold shoulder for wearing a scarf instead of a mask even though rules stay you need a cloth face covering. I used to go there almost every day, I live only a block away, but they lost me as a customer.

Alis F.

Yelp
I love their vegan blueberry danish. Also, their fancy pastries are good. Once I got a party that was way too sweet-yuk. Another time The person working there was rude to me but I h=guess she was stressed out cause it was very busy. Their rolls are original and yummy. Nicely designed place to eat, kinda small though. I hate places where it feels like your eating in the cafeteria and this place feels like your eating at home.

Yelp
I was visiting Montreal for a week, and I started every day here. I loved the atmosphere, which was friendly and bustling and calm all at the same time, with great decor that's kind of a cross between farm and industrial. The latte was a dream, and the pastries were beyond delicious. Didn't eat any savory food here, so I can't speak to that, but this little cafe was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Montreal.

Yelp
Finally got around to reviewing this great bakery. Great pastries and choice of bread. Very excited to pick up a vegan croissant for my lactose intolerant husband - he said it was better than any other non butter containing pastry he's ever had! Another win for another great bakery. Great idea to bring in new customers with sensitive digestive systems! Should have rated 5 starts but my croissant was not as crunchy as I'd like (that could have been because of the ridiculous humidity in Mtl today though...)

Jenny R.

Yelp
Bread is great! They also have a small good quality selection of pates, sausages and cheeses.

Yelp
Cute decor, lovely staff, had a hot chocolate, very warm, very big, very satisfactory!

Yelp
A recent addition to the area, Arhoma's little sister, if you will. Bread, pastry, croissants/danishes, as well as a charcuterie and cheese counter. There is also a small area with a few tables and a counter, facing busy Ontario St. should you decide to have coffee or breakfast/brunch on site. This branch is not as busy as it's main branch farther east, and therefore not crowded at all, whew! I bought a loaf of what I thought was my usual nut bread, which is normally made with chopped walnuts, but in this case, the walnuts turned out to be pistachios..... little sister has a mind of her own. The bread turned out to be very tasty, and did not make me miss my usual, a good sign indeed. This is now another of my go-to places.

Yelp
Location: Ontario Est... I drove so can't say what subway stop is close-by. Street parking is available but there's a lot of construction in the area so it's a sh*t show. The place: The space is small and it's a pick-up joint so you can't sit down and eat your goodies. The goods: I first discovered Arhoma through Lufa, when I ordered a basic white loaf of bread. Holy crap, do these guys make good bread! The loaf has a great consistency and is super tasty. I like a hint of saltiness in my bread and this one totally delivered. A friend of mine swears by their baguettes - I haven't tried them but I'm confident that they rock. I stopped in last weekend because I needed a pick-me-up from walking around, hunting for street art all day. I decided to go for the pistachio chocolatine, which, by the way, is enormous. I guess I lucked out because when I started picking at it, it still had a hint of warmth to it, and the chocolate was all melty. The chocolatine was super, super moist and literally melted in my mouth. I mean, it was impossible not to have a mouthgasm while I ate this thing. Because it was so big, I ate half right away and saved the rest for later. I've also tried their chocolate lava cakes and it's equally delicious. What I like is that the chocolate is not too rich, so you can totally eat the whole thing in one sitting. I wouldn't share, if I were you. Service: Great! The person who assisted me was very friendly! Price point: Pretty good. You can get a great loaf of bread for under $4, the chocolatine was $3 (maybe $4 - I forget) but it's double the size of what you'll get anywhere else. Plus, these guys are top notch in terms of using quality ingredients. Check it!

Yelp
A heavenly pastry with apricots and a large latte makes for the perfect start to the day!!

Yelp
All I got was a BLT sandwich and it was AWESOME! Such a simple sandwich but the bread was delish (handmade with carrots?- you cant really tell tho) and other savory tastes. Really an awesome place. Also, got a cheddar baguette, sooo sooo good. Not really the best hangout spot seeing as its a small lshop but the bread and pastries are perfect!

Anthony M.

Yelp
Stumbled on to this gem by the airbnb I stayed in and man oh man. Great little stop with great fresh food. Fresh bakery items and great coffee

Jonathan V.

Yelp
Nice place to grab a croissant in the morning. Very friendly staff! And a great selection of baked goods. Will definitely head back here.
