"A Downtown Glendale mainstay for over 20 years, La Fama Mexican Food & Bakery is a favorite for perfectly prepared masa and fresh tamales. Sold by the pound, the masa is a top choice for tamale makers across the Valley. Tamales are available frozen by the dozen or in hot six-packs for easy pickup. This counter-service shop also serves Mexican baked goods, green chile, chicharrones, and fresh flour tortillas. It’s best to call ahead, especially during the holidays." - Mcconnell Quinn

Google
Delicious food. Reasonably priced The only thing I don't like is when they serve all that onion on their chicharron con salsa Verde. I've been coming here for years. Also the chicharron at the counter needs be be fried differently. But this is just my personal opinion and experience here.

Google
OMGosh, delivered roof coating here this morning....they have the best tortillas ever. I ended up getting a dozen. I also got a red chili burro.......excellent! I love the mom and pop shops, always glad to find a new place to eat!!

Google
Don't waste your money going here. Food had no flavor. I was so disappointed. You're better off going to Food City for a better Chile Verde or Chile Colorado burrito. $7.00 for a little burrito with more potatoes than meat. And no taste. Please save your money and go somewhere else.

Google
Came all the way to this bakery from Phoenix to Glendale. Not a very good experience. Have to wait an extra 45 minutes for the food to be done. And to top it off, pay $45 for Manuel for them to say there is no onion or cilantro. Still have to wait another 40 minutes for the tamales to be done and. And a little chunky lady was not very friendly. All she said was that's it? I'm sorry, wow. Will not return and will not recommend.

Google
I drive from Peoria to get their tortillas, chicharrones and burritos. So tasty and delicious. Lately the tortillas have been cracking in the middle when I make my kid’s burritos though. Please fix this. 😊

Google
This Place has great Burritos, bread, home made tortillas, and great customer service. Recommended.

Google
La fama is Glendale! Their red/green chilli burritos are the ticket! So is their chicharron. Can't go wrong with their tamales this holiday season either. Their pan dulces are as tasty and old school as when my Nana used to give it to me. I highly recommend the puerquitos!

Google
Growing up my family owned a dry cleaners around the area, childhood memories brought me back probably the best homemade tortillas in Phoenix!!

Christopher G.

Yelp
Yes this new place but I can't say no I'd drive 500 miles for it.... =) The servi e was great, the food excellent,it's like a place from the past..

Nichol L.

Yelp
What a Gem!!! I have been getting our flour tortillas from La Fama for over 20 years!!! They have best burritos and tamales as well!

Pamela C.

Yelp
Best tortillas in the Valley. I won't buy them anywhere else. I buy 5 doz at a time and freeze until I need to pull out to use. They are perfect every time. My family has been coming here since before I was born.

Mayte H.

Yelp
Bread was old, hard, and stale NOT GOOD AT ALL would never go back I walked in at 702am and they said that the bread already sold.... I tried it and it was some if not the worst bread I have ever had

Juan P.

Yelp
First time to visit this bakery.. Not much bread to choose from.. I'm glad the employee was sincere and courteous.. I asked one question: if this was fresh baked and when it was made? The response was: it's fresh, was made a day ago... Fresh means current or recently made. I only bought one concha... surprised bread wasn't dry, for being day old bread.. Will I come back? I don't think so The building is old and not quite clean.. The attendant treated us well..

Donald P.

Yelp
This years were dissappointing to say the least. I've been getting our holiday Tamales there for years. We'll go down the block to the La Purisima Bakery next time.

Raul M.

Yelp
Chorizo Burrito damn spicy eggy goodness. I would go back for more. I also liked the green chile and am going back for their red chili.

Irene Y.

Yelp
** November 2021 Visit ** The bakery I wanted to visit was closed so I tried to see what other small mom n' pop shops were nearby. The chorizo and bean burrito was one of the saddest burritos I've ever seen, and the fresh tamale wasn't better by much. I was not impressed.

Steve G.

Yelp
One of my favorite bakery in Glendale. I enjoy there burros and pan de huevo. It has been here since I was a kid and it's worth the trip.

dave n.

Yelp
When you mention going to the Bakery you think about the wonderful smells and the delightful tasting creations. YOU WON'T have to worry about that at this ghastly place! Ordered 2 lbs of freshly made Pork Rinds and they were foul tasting as if they were almost spoiled but the smell was terrible. I tried to eat one and it was so greasy and nasty I couldn't do it. Gave my Pit Bull one and she wouldn't eat it! She eats anything. The Tamales we got there were awful.

Nestor J.

Yelp
I tried their food an will be back for tortillas, tamales an sweet breads, I don't buy tamales, but will buy them here almost like i make them for over 40 years my Nana's way very good food recomened over Carolina's any day, will end trying all the food 10 /07/23

Yelp
Best place in the valley!! Highly recommend this hidden gem. I have been going here since I was a little kid and the place is still just as authentic and delicious as ever!! It doesn't skimp on quality ingredients nor change. This is a Family owned restaurant that always gives me a warm welcoming feeling. The employees are very kind to me, always! Spectacular place! I even ran into The Cardinals Referees there on a weekend morning. The AZ CARDINALS even know what's up with this place. The tortillas are a must. It's the only dozen of tortillas I have ever opened on the way home driving in the car because they are so hot and tempting that I just need one. I'm not even joking, every dang time they are fresh and smell so good! I've never been there for over 20 years and NEVER received a dozen of tortillas that were not made that same day. They are hot and right out of the kitchen! SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES! This place deserves every penny!

Teddy T.

Yelp
I'll come in some mornings for a chorizo burrito or green chili burrito and they're always tasting amazing hot and fresh. Always coming back for more.

Ana G.

Yelp
Simple but right to the point. Have been going there since I was 3 years old with my parents and still enjoy it. Burritos are good too.

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Great panaderia. Excellent chile verde and dont pass up on the tamales! Flour tortillas are on point if you enjoy fresh made tortillas.

Laura A.

Yelp
correction. I meant to say that I would never buy prepared masa anywhere else but from La Fama

Tory A.

Yelp
I'm very picky about my tortillas. I also have a hard time finding really really good chorizo. This place has both! The chorizo can be pretty spicy which I like the most. Also it is not super greasy like most places! My family all grew up in Glendale and grew up loving this place. My uncle still makes sure to make his trips back for the chorizo. Very nice lady behind the counter every time I go in. It's a small local business that has been around forever. Give it a try!!!

Margaret A.

Yelp
Used to be great and go there all the time. Bought 2 dozen tamales yesterday. Can you say salty??!! Then to top it off, found a nice long hair in one of the tamales and no it wasn't a hair from the husk. . This was human hair. Sorry to say, won't be back or refer anyone.

James H.

Yelp
Great tamales. Plenty of meat and fantastic masa. Fantastic customer service. Be sure to get there early, I went at 4:15 and they were already out.

Sylvia V.

Yelp
Love this place I have been going here since a little girl..The red chili burritos are Awesome I definitely recommend them! The customer service is great also! The prices are fair and the food is always fresh no matter what u get!

Lauren G.

Yelp
This is the tastiest Mexican food in all of Phoenix! I've gone here countless times with my boyfriend and always leave impressed. The staff is always pleasant and I feel welcome in the store! 10/10 would recommend. (Must try the spicy green chili burro)

Shannon P.

Yelp
Still they best, tortillas, red or green chili, menudo, tamales hands down! Awesome service every time!

Sterling T.

Yelp
Best green chili burros in az. I drive all ghe way from north phoenix to get one whenever i have time. I hope this place is around forever

Isabel S.

Yelp
I paid $5.75 for a chorizo and egg burrito full of egg shells. This wasn't the only bite with shells.

Corina G.

Yelp
i love this place. I have been coming here since i was a little kid and it hasn't changed a bit. The tortillas are the die for and the menudo is fantastic. Tamales, pan dulce, burritos whatever you want. They got it.

Bess T.

Yelp
I love it here. I live in Ahwatukee and we drive to La Fama because they're so delicious. My Fiancé would go here and pick up green chili burritos for his dad, after he passed on, we get them for his step-mom. Everything is great here and prices can't be beat.

Maggie S.

Yelp
Don't come here! They sold me some breads that were really old! Dirty everywhere if you like flies this is your spot!!!!

Shawn R.

Yelp
Has anyone noticed that the birotes that they used to sell were very crusty before and have completely changed

Daniel C.

Yelp
I went to this bakery with my girlfriend the other day and there was HELLA flies..very disappointed. #1star

Mary G.

Yelp
I used to go to this place when I was a little girl. I remember the place being clean, friendly people, and no flies. I was in the area this weekend and decided to stop by and get something. I changed my mind there was a whole bunch of flies and the food wasn't even covered it was pretty disgusting. The person was making a burrito with no gloves. I was going to buy tortillas but with all those flies around I said heck no. I had to give it a star or else it wouldn't let me post or otherwise I would have given them none.

Armando C.

Yelp
I can see why some people gave them a bad review, but I tell you what, I been to the so called better bakery down the road and what selection of pastry La Fama has kicks their ass. Way more flavor. Best pigs I ever had and believe me I have had a lot in my life. Cookies just delicious. If they were only open later I would of tried their burritos. Appearance does mean something and I wish it was better, that is why I will not give it five stars, but theirs will not stop me from stoping at this place. A hole in the wall, yes, but a damn good one.

Maria A.

Yelp
Walked in here for the first time yesterday with a friend no one welcomed us or even bothered to say hi. We waited about 5 min before anyone even helped us and the only reason we were helped was because my friend said something in Spanish. The lady was rude as heck !! There were flies all over the food in the front it was disgusting!! The worker in the back grabbed all the lard with her nasty bare hands !! This is disgusting!!! They should be violated for so many health codes in that place . Rude manners I wouldn't even leave them 1 star to be completely honest!! They lost us as customers for good greeting people and making them feel welcome is a big thing they need to learn this !! I don't understand why they haven't been shut down if it weren't for their tortillas !

Erick B.

Yelp
La Fama Mexican Bakery a South Glendale tradition ! They make fresh homemade tortillas every morning at 4AM and they are ready for sale at 6AM. Whenever the wife and I are craving bean and cheese burritos we always go to La Fama's to get our tortillas. They have mexican cookies and breads as well. Don't be scared and make the drive to La Fama Mexican Bakery the earlier the better for the tortillas because they will be hotter and fresh upon arrival.

Paul B.

Yelp
went after pricing new chickens and ducks at Pratts and ran across the street because I was told La Fama has a friendly face and good green chili w/ potato. my daughter & I weren't shocked at all that the burritos are very very good and got a couple dozen tortillas for the road. Bean & cheese also are very good. If I'd add anything, have a mild & hotter salsa available. I'm spoiled and like to dip my burrito, but these do hold well without the extra sauce. I'll be back.

Olivia T.

Yelp
A co-worker brought in green chili burros from this place about a month ago and they were delicious! I've been craving this place since then. Today I went back to pick up two green chili burros to go and was completely disappointed with the quality of meat this time around. Just about every third bite was met with a mouthful of fat! By the time that all the fat was picked out of both burros I was left with potatoes and chili. I don't plan on ever returning to this spot for anymore burros. On a side note, if you plan on paying with anything other than cash there is an additional .75¢ fee added.....

Brady M.

Yelp
La fama is the epitome of a hole in the wall eatery. It is small and tucked away. With no true parking area in front of the store it is very easy to drive by and never give them a second look. When I moved to Kansas for 5 years I did not expect for this place to still be around when I got back. To my pleasant surprise they are still alive and kicking and still churning out their green chili burritos that have made them famous, well not really famous but somewhat known for. Since I've been back to AZ it's been exactly three days and I've already had two of their burritos. I can't speak much about anything else they sell since I've only really tried the one thing. They do have a small scattered selection of pan Dulce's but nothing like the real mexican bakery a few blocks up the street. But honestly I don't fault them for their lack of selection because I go there for one thing and one thing only. And maybe for one of their Spanish novellas they sell at the counter. They have a great green chili recipe that hasn't seemed to change in the last 5 years since I've been gone. It feels good to be home and it feels good that the tastes I remember haven't changed either. I will be stopping by a lot more often now that I am home to stay.

Teresa E.

Yelp
This is the definition of a whole in the wall place. BUT their green chili and potato burritos are definitely among the best I have ever had! I have been coming to this bakery for the past 9 years. The only reason I give them 3 stars is because sometimes the meat in the burritos has a lot of fat in it instead of good meat I can deal with a little peice of fat here and there but there have been times I get a burrito and the majority of the "meat" is fat. The green chili is very spicy so if your not one that can handle spice this is not. The burrito for you:) I tried there red burrito also it is average not anything special. There freshly made tortillas are amazingly delicious...

Irene S.

Yelp
Was there the other day bought fresh tortillas and some red chili beef tamales wow they are so delicious;

Travis M.

Yelp
Went to buy some tortillas yesterday, nothing like warm, fresh tortillas. Had a red chili burrito to go and it was sooo good. You might not expect to find something like this in a bakery, but it is a little hidden jewel. So if you are in the mood for somehting yummy, or you want some baked goods stop by, and give the burritios a try. I have also had the green chili (long time ago) and it was nice and spicy, but they were out this time.
