"Go for the food, which includes favorites like stuffed grape leaves, falafel plates, and meaty gyros — but stay for the hookah. This long-standing restaurant features plenty of Mediterranean staples and a casual, but lively, Montrose patio on which to enjoy them." - Megha McSwain

The food here is very authentic I came here with a group of friends and we were surprised at how creamy the hummus was and how tender the meats were! In fact they have something called the seven layer dip that is incredible. I love the fact that the food is made to order and the prices are extremely reasonable for the amount and quality of food that was given. I am a huge fan of garlic sauce and this place has some of the best garlic sauce I’ve had in a long time! Bravo to the chefs and waiters that are there, they are extremely attentive. If you have never been here you are definitely missing out. I know we will be going back for sure!

Google
Great friendly service and good food. Not great but not bad either. I personally feel that everything lacked flavor. Although the espresso cheesecake is very delicious and will probably come back just for that. Plenty of seating when I went as it was quite empty. Plenty of parking as well. I will say it was pretty hot in there. Probably because it's mostly glass but not horrible. Clean well stocked restrooms

The food was absolutely amazing! It was our first time and we enjoyed ourselves. The hookah is smooth and grade A. Definitely authentic. Update: We returned and everything was still great and the food was fresh. The hookah was still smooth and authentic. The parking is small BUT there always seems to be enough!

Google
The food was good. Not all the baklava though. The apple hookah is what I recommend. It pushed 6 of us to $300 though(including everything). So be aware of the price . But liked the place (excluding the price of course) Was fortunate enough to get parking

Google
f I'm eating in or taking out the quality is always high. Lovely decor and food to match! We started with the 7 layer dip and hit it off really well with that. I followed with the shrimp kabob plate which was extremely fresh and well seasoned. Had to finish with delicious dessert and hot tea on the patio. The food is consistently good & everyone is extremely friendly. Bonus points, we bring our fur baby bc they are dog friendly!

Saman Bina

Google
A dog friendly restaurant! They have one of the best hummus in town. Its 7layer dip is a must. And don’t forget to try its lamp. We order a mixed platter, salad, 7 layer dip, and tea. Everything tasted delicious.

My recent visit to La Fendee was nothing short of delightful. The restaurant not only boasts delectable grape leaves and chicken shawarma but also offers a charming outdoor seating area. Dining al fresco in their cozy setting was a treat in itself. What truly elevated the experience was the outstanding service provided by our server. They were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, enhancing our dining experience significantly. Now, about the food—La Fendee's grape leaves were a burst of flavors, perfectly seasoned and a true Mediterranean gem. The chicken shawarma was equally impressive, with tender, succulent meat and a harmonious blend of spices. With its inviting outdoor seating and exceptional service, La Fendee is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic Mediterranean culinary adventure. The grape leaves and chicken shawarma alone are worth the trip, but the overall experience makes it truly unforgettable.

I've been going to La Fendee for almost 4 years now and I look forward to each visit with similar if not more excitement. Excitement for the amazingly chill ambience and the great food. A big fan of the chicken shawarma plate - that white garlic dip is to die for 🤤 Special mention: they have the best fries I've eaten in Houston! Their hookah is pretty awesome too and lately I've been enjoying their Persian tea. Needless to say, I try and get my friends hooked to this spot. The location is great, the service is amazing and it's a great place to come to whether you want to unwind after a long week, catch up on conversation with friends or a chill date night. The owner is always so friendly. I love La Fendee 😍

Yelp
My recent visit to La Fendee Mediterranean Grill & Bar left my taste buds in a state of Mediterranean bliss, thanks to their mouthwatering gyro sandwich. The gyro sandwich at La Fendee is nothing short of perfection. The tender, thinly sliced meat, combined with the fresh and flavorful toppings, created a harmonious explosion of taste with every bite. The pita bread was soft and slightly toasted, providing the ideal vessel to savor this Mediterranean classic. One thing that stood out was the generous portion size. The gyro sandwich was not only delicious but also hearty, ensuring that I left the restaurant completely satisfied. It's evident that they take pride in providing ample value to their customers. What sets La Fendee apart is their commitment to using fresh and high-quality ingredients. The vegetables were crisp and vibrant, and the tzatziki sauce was a creamy and refreshing complement to the savory gyro meat. It's clear that they prioritize both taste and quality. If you're in the mood for Mediterranean cuisine that's both delectable and filling, La Fendee is the place to be. I left with a satisfied stomach and a newfound appreciation for the art of the gyro.

Yelp
I lived in Montrose for nine years, and how the hell did I never go to La Fendee? I heard about it. I saw it. I even knew it went through a reno. But I never dined there (likely because I used to go to Biba's/One's A Meal). But I'm so thankful that the beau was craving a Mediterranean burger, and I can't ever say no to grape leaves or a vegetarian plate. Y'all... dinner was so good, we dined there a second day that week, and then I shamelessly ordered delivery for lunch. Three times in one week... I'm a fan. Our go-to is quickly becoming the La Fendre Sampler ($20) with hummus, tabbouleh, grape leaves, kibbeh, falafel, baba ganoush, pita. They were out of kibbeh one day, so we subbed it for labneh. The baba ganoush and falafel are defo my favorites. And I think their falafel is some of the best in the city. Another fave is the chicken shawarma. P.S. Paper straws - yes!

Grace Y.

Yelp
La Fendee is a cute little restaurant with limited indoor seating and some outdoor seating. It's minimalist, which works really well and looked very inviting on the sunny day we visited. I ordered the Gyro Sandwich, which tasted just okay. There wasn't anything wrong with the sandwich, but it just felt like something was missing. The fries were good and honestly better than the sandwich. It was a long wait for there being only another table occupied, and unfortunately the food wasn't worth the wait.

Victor H.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to this and it's now another hookah joint on my list. Seems like they had some issues in the past; whatever they were, I think they've been remedied. Interior is cozy and welcoming plus there's outside seating too. Alcohol is also served here too to pair with hookah. There's a variety of hookah flavors here; my go-to is always the watermelon mint. I'll have to try other flavors but watermelon mint can't be beat! I haven't tried the food yet so that will be something to explore at future visits. Additionally they have an awesome staff who are friendly and helpful. Parking is difficult since it's a small lot so you may have to park on the street in the neighborhood or across from the venue. Aside from that, you won't have a bad experience here if you like hookah, Mediterranean eats, or both!

Abbey B.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Mediterranean 7 layer dip was amazing. Finished the whole thing! The chicken kabobs were also delicious. Love the hummus and authentic cuisine offered here. Service was great too, the waiter was attentive and food came out timely. We'll be back!

Brandon W.

Yelp
The food was alright. The beef Shawarma was kind of dry and overcooked. The rice was wet and soggy and had a milk flavor? The pita bread was strange; it resembled a tortilla shape and was very thin with a weird texture.

Alex S.

Yelp
We were in the mood for Mediterranean fare and decided to try this little spot. The restaurant is adorable! Quite small and quaint. The gyro was great - the lamb was very well seasoned. We also had a sampler platter. The hummus was very creamy, and the baba-ghanoush quite smokey. Kibbeh was crunchy and delicious. One thing I was not a fan of was the tabouleh salad: it was served completely dry on the plate. A little bit of olive oil and lemon juice would've gone a long way. The Turkish coffee was a bit burnt and very thick for our taste. I prefer it a bit lighter and more spiced. The strawberry jam baklava was not our favorite - it tasted like something other than baklava. Still, we think this place has a lot of potential- we liked it well enough that we would come back.

Francisco T.

Yelp
I visited this below average Mediterranean place when one of my friends had a desperate need to eat shawarma. Service was slow and the atmosphere was dull. They seem to belong to the school of thought that holds red wine is supposed to be served at room temperature, in Houston, during the summer, which is ok if you like your wine at the same temperature of your soup (I did actually not order any soup other than the wine). The food was ok. The shawarmas were not bad, but not great either. Somehow they managed to wrap mine in some paper that got stuck to the pita when they grilled it, so that gave me an exercise on mental strength and patience since I had to spend some time peeling the paper off to take a bite. The place is not terrible, but I'm sure in massive, diverse, Houston I can find better shawarma.

Hiromi K.

Yelp
Food was very delicious. The chicken was perfectly grilled, hummus and veggies were very tasty. The cocktails were very fresh and tasteful. I ordered the summer which was perfect for this season. I really recommend this place.

Annie B.

Yelp
Ordered Uber eats from here and it was overall ok. The gyro wrap with fries was pretty good, it could have used a little more sauce because the meat was a little dry though. The hummus however was really weird.. it tasted like peanut butter and if I wasn't the one who ordered it I would never have guessed I was eating hummus. The pita that came with the hummus was also very strange, it was more like a tortilla for a burrito than it was a pita bread. Overall I would not rush to order here again.

Cat A.

Yelp
I ordered mix grill and a beef shawarma plate. Food was horrible. Meat was extremely dry and overcooked. Hummus tasted like it was from a can. Horrible I have never tried a beef shawarma as bad as this . Keep in mind I'm from Saudi and I eat Mediterranean food on the daily. This is not authentic . Service was great and very friendly staff The place had good vibes and looked nice but I ordered to go anyway.

Ali A.

Yelp
Nice, chill, casual restaurant to eat good food, sip on your drink and hang out. Their patio is pretty nice. It's right on Westheimer. I didn't have issues with the service. Their idea is to let u chill so they don't come bug you every minute. If u need something, you gotta let them know. I like their chicken kabob and hummus supreme. Their seven layer dip and baklavas are good too.

Gracie O.

Yelp
Great service! Food was pretty decent as well. Cute lil spot. Parking is horrendous. Got the hookah but u can only smoke it outside and it was hotter than fish grease so we had to leave prematurely. Would be back in the fall when the weather is not tryna bake me.

Jassmine G.

Yelp
I got the beef kabob which came with white rice which was an overall okay meal not much flavor. We got white wine which was very watered down. The ambiance felt like a coffee shop which was a bit confusing haha. Service was okay had to go up to counter for check although we were last ones there.

Briana M.

Yelp
Me & my husband came back again for dinner. Switched and tried the chicken a beef kabob this time and the food was still 5 stars. Tea & Hookah amazing as usual!

Andres E.

Yelp
Honestly, very underwhelmed. Ordered gyro plate on Uber eats, the lamb was under-cooked, and they gave white rice with a single piece of saffron. No veggies. I also ordered hummus and it came with only one piece of pita bread. No details, no effort, not worth it.

Desiare D.

Yelp
Small quite place hidden on Montrose but definitely a great date night spot. The hummus is homemade and the service is super friendly. Can't find anything in the menu that I don't love.

Lauren P.

Yelp
Delicious!! We stumbled upon this restaurant because the lines at Greek fest were too long. They treated us like family! Food is so good and service is great. Highly recommend

Zoe P.

Yelp
We loved our experience and the food here! The hummus was so flavorful and had a great texture. Chicken shawarma sandwich and chicken kabob plates were both great quality and very filling. The grape leaves were my favorite! We even had some miscommunication in our order and they happily served us a whole extra meal! Our favorite drink was the arak cocktail. Definitely will be going back soon

Liz E.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday night and the food was so yummy and they have a cozy outdoor seating area. Chicken shawarma and gyro sandwiches were delicious! We had a couple pots of tea with dinner and the service was so friendly. I'll definitely be back!

Dee O.

Yelp
La Fendee has now become my favorite place to smoke hookah. Staff was friendly, food was good, hookah was amazing. Staff aimed to please with their customer service. You won't be disappointed if you go!

Sam E.

Yelp
If I'm eating in or taking out the quality is always high. Lovely decor and food to match! We started with the 7 layer dip and hit it off really well with that. The food is consistently good & everyone is extremely friendly. Bonus points, we bring our fur baby bc they are dog friendly!

Yelp
The customer service here is outstanding. They really care about your experience here. Hookah was done right. My chicken wrap was delicious, with large chicken chunks and plenty of garlic mayo. Plenty of parking. Nice little outside patio that is shielded from the cold wind. Clean bathrooms. I will definitely be coming back here because I felt well taken care of.

John Victor M.

Yelp
Soooo hookah, disposable hose and mouthpiece. White peach tea and mint and peach hookah., mild sweet relaxing. Food is excellent, filling but not too much.

Narissa C.

Yelp
That was one of the most uncomfortable dinners I've ever had. When We got there the table next to us had 3 people at it and 1 was our server and another was someone I am guessing either owned or managed. Which is fine- they weren't that busy so I really didn't think much of it but then as I was catching up with a friend I noticed at times that they were just watching/ listening to us. This was already awkward enough but then- and I didn't even know this was legal- they started smoking hooka WHILE WE WERE EATING. I just didn't even think to check if they would do this as I literally thought it was illegal. What a fever dream this experience was and the food was not worth this experience (don't know that it would have been even if it was the best) but it was very bland. I tried to be chill about this but I won't ever go back.

Daniel H.

Yelp
After drinking in the area we craved some Shwarma Wraps. We came in and were greeted nicely by staff, and sat inside. We ordered Hummus from the appetizer and had an off taste. Not sure if they add something to cut the chickpeas but it tasted like peanut butter( maybe to much tahini). For entrees we ordered the chicken shwarma wrap and although good, I was disappointed that it was cut chicken breast and not the cut chicken from the rotating spit like gyro, nonetheless still good. Overall not bad food would come back to try different things if in the area and wanted this type of cuisine but wouldn't drive out the way for it. Also, the guy behind the counter kept slicking his hair back and scratching his nose, went back to the kitchen several times and couldn't tell if washed hands or not.

Rose W.

Yelp
Im glad i finally tried the Mediterranean place. I have seen it for years and always wanted to try. I could not figure out of it was open because the parking lot always looked empty. Found out its more reality....most houstonians are fast food addicts! I wanted a more homemade meal 2ith no fried foods. I came to the right place. Hint: the vegetables is the seasoning and make you tell them Not to warm up your cream cheese its better not warm( i tried it). I just wish they will add grilled or baked fish to their menu thats what i originally wanted. The shrimp and rice i got instead was great! Ill return to try they lamb. The hookahs are only $15! I did not get one because i went alone and hookahs are meant to be shared. The decor was relaxing and the music! I could bot leave without trying the baklava dessert Verrry moist and delicious 2 for $4.95.

Jodi M.

Yelp
Absolutely quality food and service!! Sam is great! The hummus and chicken are fabulous.

Erica G.

Yelp
Deeply unsatisfied with many things in this restaurant. I have driven by this spot many times and have always wanted to try the food and shisha. We ordered their beef and chicken Shawarma plate and a side of hummus. Their hummus almost tasted like it was mixed with peanut butter and their chicken/ beef shwarma plate was so bland and dry it wasnt easy to eat. There were no veggies on this plate what so ever. Only dried up pieces of beef and chicken with dry white Jasmine rice and a little side of hummus. We ordered the Apple and Berry shisha. We had to take back the hookah because it almost tasted like licorice. 1st time EVER that this has happened going to any hookah place in Houston. We ended up getting the Orange mint and it still tasted different. Almost like lemon and mint.. better but still a let down. Service is extremely slow and may be due to being understaffed? Really not sure because there weren't too many people here in a Friday night. I personally wouldnt come back.

Cassie X.

Yelp
I've been here twice now over the past month and it's a pretty good place if I just want to have a chill dinner. I've had the hummus, babaganoush, beef and chicken shawarma sandwich, falafel, grape leaves. My favorite is probably the hummus and the shawarma is also decent. Service here can be slow but it's only one person servicing the whole place so can't ask for too much.

Bakker S.

Yelp
Great food, hookah, and vibes. Good spot for exploring montrose. Staff was very friendly.

Taylor C.

Yelp
I have been coming here for many years. Friendly staff and great food. My go-to order is the chicken shawarma plate, fattoush salad, hummus, and French fries

Negar A.

Yelp
La Fendee still is one of the best spot in Montrose area Look at the varieties of food, Teas and tobaccos flavor on the menu

Lawton D.

Yelp
I've been coming here forever and the food never disappoints. You are greeted with a smile and a delish menu and tons of drink options. I always order hooka and relax. I never feel rushed here and enjoy my food and read. I believe this spot is family owned. I highly suggest this adorable neighborhood joint. Take some of the fantastic baklava to go.

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Great service, French fries, made me feel like home! Waiters were passionate about what they do. Will be back

Annie H.

Yelp
This place hit the spot - the whole experience was *chefs kiss* perfection! Officially my favorite spot in town for middle eastern food. I got the chicken kabob, so flavorful, so juicy. The tzatziki was bomb, it came with my friends gyro plate and I asked for some too. Mine came with the garlic sauce which was delicious but thinner and not quite as potent as some I've had but I found that refreshing. I also got the house salad. I found the picture online of what I wanted and that's what it's called, house salad. It was basically a shirazi salad which is EXACTLY what I wanted. Hummus was amazing. Best Persian tea in town. I had like 5 cups. We killed the pot twice. We also got hookah, did the watermelon & mint flavors mixed. The staff gave us new coals once, was attentive but not overly bothersome. Of course since I got everything else I had to try both baklava. Not a huge fan of the walnut but the pistachio was amazing. This place was such a vibe. Anyone who has given this place shitty reviews is ignorant in my opinion LOL. Smoking hookah in these restaurants is normal. It sounds dumb and very white to complain about that. Great spot 10/10 I've been craving the full 5 courses of this style of cuisine for weeks and they completely nailed it. Feels like a small business in the heart of montrose too. Fits right in while still serving authentic food, tea, and hookah. I will be back :)

Nellie B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for the past 3-4 years and the quality of the food and cleanliness of the place and the customer service is still the best. Try the Chicken shwarma wrap or plate and you won't be disappointed. They always make room for large parties and it's also such an awesome spot if you want to just chill and work after.

Sarah R.

Yelp
Chill and laid back vibes! Hookahs consistent every time I come here. Staff is very accommodating and attentive.

Shannon B.

Yelp
Recently moved to the area and googled hookah places nearby by and came across this place on a random week day... We loved it!!! Granted we only came for hookah and had their Persian tea (which was awesome). It was such a neat, little place. The service was outstanding and everyone was friendly. Seemed to be family owned and operated which I love. We will definitely be back to try the food

Diane K.

Yelp
This review is longgggg over due but for all of you out there... La Fendee has THE BEST FOOD IN TOWN! I've had my fair share of falafel throughout the years and I can honestly say that they have the best I've ever had. The owner Saina was so attentive and helpful. She is the key to La Fendee's magic! You literally cannot go wrong with anything on their menu!

Margaret H.

Yelp
Goooooood vibes! Hands down the best Mediterranean food I've experienced during my years as a Houstonian & the people behind it are absolutely lovely & welcoming. Family owned & run, this place is an awesome place to relax & chill. Seriously great & authentic food (you've got to try the tabbouleh!) Plus hookah, sweeeet music, lots of different herbal teas, & soon they'll be open in the mornings as a coffee/pastry shop! I already love the place but I'm so excited to spend some mornings here! La Fendee is the spot!!

Richard M.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to eat! I probably come here once every week or two and usually bring a friend. Most of my friends now go to La Fendee. The food tastes great, the people that work there are so pleasant, and it never disappoints. When i was trying to lose weight I'd have the Chicken Kabob here and was always a perfect meal. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Sarvin H.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. One of my all time favorites with great food selection, amazing hookah and atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating.Service is also phenomenal.

Sean A.

Yelp
In an area filled with hidden and not so hidden gems, this place might just be the crown jewel! From the food to the hookah to ambiance, everything is just perfect about this place. I maybe a little biased about the food because of my love for the Mediterranean cuisine. To top it off, they have a modest beer and wine menu to go along with an evening of eating and smoking. To add to all that, there are plans in place to open earlier in the afternoon as a cafe, which will give a run for its money to the couple or other cafes in the area.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Great food. Great atmosphere. Hookah was even betterment's The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back again. Thank you for all your hospitality. Highly recommended!

Mark R.

Yelp
I'm a regular here for a relaxing hookah experience, cold beer and excellent Mediterranean food. Such a nice atmosphere with welcoming staff, always catering to my needs during each visit. Great hookah flavors available for both indoor and outdoor seating. Well worth a visit if you haven't already checked it out!

Gabriel G.

Yelp
I don't always find myself in the Montrose area so I was thrilled to try a good place with amazing food. After several minutes our group settled on La Fendee Mediterranean Grill. We used proximity to our current location, comments on Yelp, Google, and Facebook to help us narrow down our selection and were happy to arrive at a little past 7PM on Saturday. The dinning room only had a couple sharing french fries and a plate of Hummus. We were a little disconcerted about the lack of people but we pushed on and made our selection within 5 minutes of scouring the 2 page menu. (We were hungry.) We ordered a plate of Labneh, Hummus as appetizers and chicken kabobs and a beef shawarma as entrees. The wait staff were very attentive and quickly brought out our appetizers. The Entrees took a little longer and although there was only two other people in the restaurant, apparently chicken kabobs take 20+ minutes to make. The labneh was tangy and fresh, but the hummus had a strange smoky flavor we were unused to and it was so processed that it was more like a runny paste than the spread we had expected. More that half of the hummus was left untouched. The Chicken kabobs were amazing. It was savory and well seasoned with saffron and garlic. The chef did a superb job of keeping the chicken nuggets moist, which is probably the most difficult part of this dish. The beef shawarma was less appetizing. Lamentably the shawarma was not prepared traditionally and was just marinated beef that was cut un strips and then grilled on a flat grill. The chef was overzealous in his preparation and cooked the heck out of the meat, leaving the dried shriveled strips twisted like a nest of dead black worms. I returned the dish and the disappointed chef reluctantly redid the dish which came out much better. As a whole I enjoyed the place but for the price of the food I was expecting a higher level of quality and excellence. There are several other amazing Arabic, Mediterranean restaurants with similar prices or even less expensive that serve top notch dishes more in line with the value the restaurant has placed on their food. For that reason I give this establishment a solid 3 Stars.

Matthew E.

Yelp
La Fendee is a hidden gem in Houston! The hookah is great and the food is filled with tasty flavor. The staff friendly, attentive and always looking to make you feel at home. A true mom n pop restaurant that is a must go to if you are in Montrose.

Lorena A.

Yelp
Serves One of the best gyros I've tried! I order a simple chicken platter and it was delicious!!

Ed R.

Yelp
This has been my favorite casual Mediterranean place in Montrose and maybe even Houston for many years. It has an authentic family owned vibe and great food. Highly recommend the chicken kebab and souvlaki - both are consistently perfect. Finish it up with either Persian tea or Turkish coffee and you won't be disappointed.
