This is a strange place, converted from a religious institution, on an unprepossessing back road and next to a defunct gravel pit. But the room was excellent as was the service, there is a pleasant inner courtyard/garden, and the restaurant is excellent without being pretentious. The locals drive out to eat here, and evidently come again and again, for delicious, good value food, hearty and traditional rather than refined. The roasted onion starter is special, and my baccala cooked two ways was the best salt cod dish I have ever tasted. I asked for advice about wine and was directed to one of the cheapest on the list - a Timorasso which I had never drunk before and which was outstandingly tasty and good with food. If you arrive early, don't be put off by the fact that there seems to be no way in - just ring the bell at the door on the car park side.
