Stopped in for lunch on a weekday; one of four tables at that time. Service: Staff were all prompt and server was very friendly, attentive and courteous. Food:Had chili rellenos (crispy)… smothered green. Chili was awesome, but the rellenos were terrible (filled with some kind of salty processed cheese like Cheese Whiz?). I will return to try a different dish next time, though. Atmosphere: Pleasant, clean —but you might want to ask for a table away from the speakers, because the music was annoyingly loud where I was seated. Parking and access: Ample parking. Difficult access to enter restaurant for anyone who uses a wheelchair, walker or cane.

Not a fan the chips and salsa were ok, I ordered a single chile relleno plate and received what look like a mini chimi with cheddar cheese and some strips of chiles. Maybe that’s the way the make them here in Denver, I’m from Arizona and they make them with a full chile…it would be helpful if they had pictures…

Google
Great old school neighborhood Mexican Restaurant. Don't make them like this anymore. A true gem! Love it!

Google
I just came in for a late lunch and got the appetizer nachos which are very filling and very good. The 2 for 1 margaritas are great also. Love the family owned very friendly service. Will definitely be back many times to try even more food which I imagine are phenomenal.

Google
The only thing I enjoyed here was my rice and beans. The first time. My order got messed up and they took my plate back and the rice I got the second time was super hard and crunchy. My family and I all went and not one of us really enjoyed our meal. Very unimpressed n cheap.

Google
Heard they won some awards for their green & red chilis and their rellenos and it definitely lived up to it. The service was very quick and friendly. I really enjoyed everything I ate and don’t really have any complaints other than that I wish they were open for dinner more nights than just Friday and Saturday a week. Can’t wait to bring my friends back here. I’m honestly surprised I hadn’t heard of this restaurant until this year despite them having been open since the 60s since I grew up here. I ordered the Esteban combo (relleno and soft taco) with green chili, and a house marg. Some of the best green chili i think I’ve had in CO.

Google
I am trying to figure out how this restaurant has 4 stars! There is no way! My boyfriend and I went in for lunch and he ordered the red enchiladas and they were the worst enchiladas I have ever tasted in my life! I don’t know what they are doing but it’s just a huge NO!! Cold chips, the salsa was ok, the server was sweet! We sent the enchiladas back because they came out green first. Second plate came out and it was disgusting. And kitchen had run out of cheese. I have worked half my life in a restaurant and never have I heard of such a thing! Please do better! This was our first and last time here

Google
The reviews met the expectations! Old school style, excellent service and delicious food Definitely recommend and not to judge this book by its cover!

Yelp
Number 1- The service was very quick. Number 2- The food was delicious. Number 3- The restaurant/food was very authentic. I definitely recommend it. The place looks expensive but it is not. We had a table of six and it only costed $90. I would definitely try it again

Yelp
La Fiesta is a step back in time. Its retro vibe meets Mexican restaurant never fails to create a fun night and atmosphere to go along with it. If you haven't been it's a must try spot and a nice change up to the normal Denver restaurant scene. I think it used to have live music and an open dance floor. Would love to see that come back.

Yelp
Very large establishment with ample of flexibility to accommodate large groups. They have a patio as well. Waitress was super kind although didn't give a very thoughtful or genuine recommendation when asked. Margaritas were standard mix but did come with a bendy straw which was fun. Queso was a very big serving and leaving something to be desired. Salsa had some spice and was edible. I got the large combo which was very wet but not bad. The bean burrito was pretty big, chile rellano was solid and cheese enchilada was good. Beef taco also good enough but the bean tostada was not great. Very heavy on the cheddar cheese for all items. Honestly, the food was pretty on par with average American style Mexican restaurants but more "wet". Few tips- even the vegetarian burrito has meat in the sauce so vegetarians may need to ask more questions. Lastly, they did try to accommodate our bachelorette party by bringing out a treat for the bride. They were super nice, accommodating, fast, but had OK food. Pretty not great bathrooms and not accommodating for changing kiddos. Despite all, Thanks for the thoughtfulness.

Yelp
Best chili rellenos in Denver!! So good! Fast service and very friendly staff! Been coming here for years and nothing compares to their rellenos!

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, then look no further than this family-owned and operated restaurant. With over 40 years in business, this establishment has clearly perfected the art of serving up delicious food while providing excellent customer service. Upon arriving, we were pleased to find that we didn't need a reservation, and parking was a breeze thanks to their private lot. The staff was incredibly attentive, making sure our table was always comfortable and our drinks were topped off. But the real standout here was the food. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor, and the queso was a particular standout - creamy, cheesy, and with just the right amount of spice. The only downside to our experience was the margaritas, which we found to be a bit too sweet for our taste. However, with so many other delicious options on the menu, this was a minor quibble. All in all, we would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the mood for authentic, delicious Mexican food. From the excellent customer service to the amazing dishes, it's clear why this family-owned restaurant has been in business for over four decades.

Yelp
Can you say old school? I can, and only in the best way possible. If only walls could talk... You walk in and instantly feel like family. Robert, the manager came to greet us right away, and he was followed by nearly the whole wait staff greeting us at our table, they said they knew who their regulars were, and when they see new comers, it's a big deal! Chips and salsa right off the bat, and authentic salsa at that. The guac was delicious too, so creamy and fresh. I ordered the relleno, with a side of green and red sauce, because I'm a Gemini moon (iykyk). Both were delicious, but I have to agree with the staff on this one, the green was better. My partner in crime ordered the steak burrito, which we had hoped would have a bit more than just chopped steak inside. But hey, anything smothered in that green sauce is good. A special note goes to the margaritas. Their house mix was tangy and smooth, and perfectly washed away the spice of the never ending salsa. Overall, a staple place for a down home family dinner night. Good people, great salsa.

Yelp
OMG! How have we lived in Denver nearly a decade and never heard of La Fiesta? As a fifth generation South Texan, it's hard to find good Mexican food akin to what I grew up eating. This place is FANTASTIC! Originally opened in 1964, the third generation of family members now own and Run the restaurant. The interior is a throw back to earlier days. The food was fabulous but our server, Nicole, made our night. The owner also welcomed us and every other guest that walked in the door. You don't get hospitality like we received tonight anymore. Run, don't walk here for your next Mexican food fix!! P.S. We highly recommend saving your calories for the homemade, big-as-your-face sopapillas!

Yelp
CHIMICHANGA! These guys are known worldwide for their green Chile so make sure whatever you get it's smothered in that. The staff is super friendly make sure you ask them about the history behind La Fiesta. It's a great story. Get the chimichanga I promise you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Food - had the Dugan Combination plate which is a chicken enchilada, Chile relleno and ground beef soft taco all smothered in green chili topped with lettuce and tomato. It was alright, I'm not from Denver and still haven't adjusted to everything being smothered - just not my thing. My bf had the Friday special Steak Burrito, it was alright, didn't blow our hair back. Chips and salsa were tasty but too watery. I'm hella picky when it comes to Mexican food and this place just didn't do it for us. Service was great. Got greeted as soon as we walked in, staff was friendly and attentive. Manager even stopped by our table to check in and thank us for our business. Made our experience pretty good actually. Ambiance - someone else said this place gave off "Goodfellas" vibes, I can agree with that. It honestly looks like an old dance hall where girls used to have their quinceñeras at. They even have a couple of the older box TVs mounted on the walls Happy hour Saturday 4-6 house margs 2 for 1

Yelp
terrible service. really rude and wait time was crazy for a place with little business

Yelp
I took my wife here for our Anniversary, I thought it would be something fun and different. Different it was, the young man that seated us must have smoked a joint before we got there as he forgot the chips and salsa, dropped the dish towel he was goi g to use to clean our table, and just kept giggling uncontrollably. When it came to The "award winning food" it was so hot that we couldn't eat it. We asked for mild and they joked that we wouldn't be able to take the heat if we went with anything other than mild. It was an experience and an expensive one at that.

John B.

Yelp
A simple basic should not have to ask request was not fulfilled.be courteous . . . .

Yelp
When you're looking for an unpretentiousness Mexican food experience without being reminded to WEAR A MASK!!! And BLACK LIVES MATTER!!!! You can find your happy place just sitting with a cervesa, a beautiful woman on the Menu, and a tasty lunch. There are some strange quirks: indeed, chips and salza are not free. Nor soma my menu items automatically come with beans and rice. Just read the menu carefully to avoid the need for uncomfortable conversations when the bill arrives.
google avatar

Nino R.

Yelp
You feel like a gangster when you walk in. Totally had the "Goodfellas" vibes as soon as I sat down. The decor is super throwback. I love it. We need more of this so people don't forget. I couldn't stop looking around. So cool. Had the new chicken nachos...bomb. Nice heat. Rare to find that these days. Huevos Rancheros...recommend with the green chile. Ask for corn tortillas and do it with an over easy egg. Good heat. Enchiladas...basic but solid. Also recommend the green chile on this. The free salsa was dope. Had a nice kick of heat in there. Again, this is rare. I don't know of any place that kicks up their grub like La Fiesta. It's much welcomed. My new fave...

Kalaw W.

Yelp
Food was delicious! If you can't handle the heat, learn too because you don't want to miss out on the green Chile. Would absolutely recommend this place. :)

Yelp
Wow. Simply blown away. Unless you are in the know (i.e., someone twists your arm to eat here), you quite possibly might never give this place a chance - it's rather unassuming. What you'll find here is a restaurant with an immense amount of history and soul. It opened in 1964 and has remained family owned since (and has now survived a pandemic!). Once inside, the decor feels frozen in time - in the most beautiful way. The deep set bar on the back right hand side is so cool and a must see. The decor of the restaurant provides a comfort to the that reminds you of coming home to your parent's house for a nourishing meal. The staff treats you just like family too. The personalized service and interest in ensuring we had a great experience made for such a lovely evening. Now for the food. Let me just say, I LOVED the salsa here. TO. DIE. FOR. I ordered the Lawson Combination meal, which was wonderful. The restaurant if known for their chili relleno and for good reason - it couldn't get enough of it. Whether you like chili relleno or not, you must try it at La Fiesta. Your tastebuds will not be disappointed. There are lots of great items to eat here. Come hungry and leave happy! The restaurant is also doing a great job managing COVID precautions. Ample spacing between tables, everyone wearing masks and lots of cleaning occurring between customers. Much appreciated!

Yelp
Miguel's Tacos 5 stars all the way! The best chicken tacos & the best salsa in Colorado! Highly recommend this place! I absolutely love the finely shredded cheese! I don't eat green chili but my husband says it's the very best. Highly recommend La Fiesta!

Carter C.

Yelp
Wouldn't complain (or rave) about the food but really felt like service here was lacking enough to write a yelp review. People were nice, but definitely not attentive. Didn't have water despite asking several times. Same with chips. Same with drinks. Same with checks. It took us 40 minutes to check out. Big group, but still.

Yelp
30 years coming here. Hasn't wavered. Wonderful family business. Service and food always excellent!

Yelp
american cheese on "Mexican" food is an abomination. also I'm convinced my "steak" was anything but. ‍

Yelp
Ask for a taco to. Go.told it was 4 dollars got a. Check for around 6 37..

Yelp
First time eating here today and I will be back. Truly an old school local place. Everything is dates, revisit the 1970's, but clean and the people were all friendly. My glasses (yep 2, I drink a lot) were never empty and the food was good and appropriately priced. We had a bit of a wait due to a larger party that came in right before us but our waiter comped us guacamole for the trouble. That wasn't expected but a welcome recognition for our time. The chili relleno and guacamole were my favorites only second to the service. Things happen, sometimes wait times seem long but you know what anyone that says "I am sorry, thank you, etc" gets a fresh slate in my book (well review). Truly exemplar personalities and people skills.

Kimberly G.

Yelp
This place is expensive and the food is hot. I went in to place an order and to ask how hot the food is, after being told it the red sauce was mild I placed an order to go. After arriving back to the house with the food I hadn't received the queso that had been ordered also. But after explaining that I didn't want the food to be spicy hot well guess what it was HOT. They did deliver the queso but by then the foods temperature was cold. If your looking for a place wit hot food you found it.

Brandy G.

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving a star is because the servers were kind and helpful. They don't deserve the heat. I double checked my order and noticed they forgot my refried beans. The FOH staff were kind and immediately got it for me. I gave this place a chance twice and I'll never be back. I knew that Mexican food would be hard to come by in Colorado but my goodness this is unacceptable. I hope the owners see this and seriously reconsider what they're doing in the kitchen.

Alexandria B.

Yelp
went to park here in the parking lot and there was a homeless looking man harassing people saying they can't here. confused on the parking situation so we left and i called to speak to a manager but they couldn't find him. a man who sounded like the homeless man outside answered the phone and said to call back in like 20 minutes. this situation just makes this restaurant seem trashy and run down. didn't even get a chance to make it inside to dine in.
google avatar

Rusty H.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I are on the hunt for the best green chili in Colorado. We stopped here and got 2 "super burritos" chips and salsa and sopapillas. First of all, this is not authentic green chili. It was some sort of green slop and just tasted odd. There was nothing "super" about the super burrito. It was a tiny burrito with a chewy not soft tortilla. Was supposed to be beef and bean, it was bean and an unknown disgusting substance. The chips were mediocre and the salsa is a bland store bought tasting and way to spicy. Casa Bonita has a better sopapilla and they serve TV dinners. Hands down this place is terrible fake Mexican food and we will never consider returning. Bye!
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
The food was OK. I just didn't particularly care for their mole sauce on their enchiladas. Ambiance was a bit barrio. Bottom line: I went here once, but I'm still looking for a good Mexican place in the area.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Even though it's touted as one of the oldest and best Mexican restaurants in Denver I really just didn't care for the chili but that's just my personal opinion
google avatar

Simone R.

Yelp
Amazing food! Got the super burrito with chicken and beans! Their green chili is amazing and their salsa is to die for! I can't wait to go back for chips and salsa!!! Side note: we had a huge group and the service was impeccable!

Yelp
I've lived downtown for over 5 years yet had not checked out La Fiesta. Recently my GF and I moved into Five Points and were driving down Champa a few weeks ago on a Friday night. Little did I know that we happened to drop in on the only evening they are open. Is it great Mexican food? No, but it's about what I expected. My only complaint is that the server offered us chips & salsa without informing us there was a charge. However when I mentioned this to the owner while checking out he rectified the situation. I love the ambiance; the disco ball and speakers that haven't been used in 10-20 years still hanging from the ceiling. Wish La Fiesta would fire up the music again and get the dance floor rocking. Looking forward to returning on a Friday night.
google avatar

Marc K.

Yelp
It's about the food! This place is not fancy, super clean, or up to date (says the old three lens projector still hanging from the ceiling). It has a dim brown and orange vibe that is only slightly appealing. But it's about the food, stupid! If you just like great smiling service, and good eats then this is your place. Having Elena as your server is like visiting your favorite aunt's place. I don't know if she has any ownership in the place, but she treats you like it. I got the beef fajitas. They are not top shelf, but they are good and any shortcomings they have are more than made up for by the fact that I had more than enough toppings to make some great fajitas (is there anything more annoying than ordering fajitas and having to carefully ration the sparse toppings?) If you're a hipster or stodgy business man you'll be better suited at some boring predictable establishment. I like hospitality, feeling like I belong, and eating heartily - so this place gets my vote.
google avatar

Melanie S.

Yelp
This place was a roller coaster of emotions, as there were things I absolutely adored and things that I found a bit lacking. I LOVED the service. Seriously, some of the best service I have had in Denver, with everyone going out of their way to make sure we had an excellent time. The man checking us out who I believe to be the owner was so amazingly friendly and smiling he really made an amazing impression and was the absolute best person to have front of house because he just made you feel really good about being there. Our server was fantastic also, and you can tell this place is a great work environment by how happy everyone was to be there. I actually loved the decor here. I thought it made a really fun atmosphere that the seating and tables seemed old-fashioned but that there were neon signs around. It made it feel like we were at a bar in Mexico, and made me excited for the beer I had ordered. The food was just not what I had hoped it would be, though. I don't know if I ordered the wrong thing because some of these pictures look better than what I had gotten (the grilled chicken- a small and flat breast that left you hungry) but my fiance ordered some sort of combo with a little bit of everything and I just wasn't a huge fan. I felt like the green chili bowl was really good, but I like it chunky and it was mainly broth. His combo seemed so over cheesed it was hard to taste what was underneath. It just wasn't that blow you away authentic Mexican food I was looking for. Everything about this place was so spot on and exactly what I was looking for except the food, so it is almost painful to only give three stars especially when the staff was so amazing. I hope they realize what an asset their amazing service is to their business because honestly I would come back just for that!

Yelp
This was my first visit and irs been in this old Safeway bldg since 1964. Not the best neighborhood when I was growing up and serves lunch only except for Friday dinner. Also closed weekends. Lots of parking, great old sign and very old fashion inside. Great chips and salsa. I had a combo with a burrito, rellano and enchilada. The rellano was great but the standout was the enchilada. One of the best I have ever had. I will dream about it.
google avatar

April M.

Yelp
Ordered a beef enchilada and 3 tacos and cheese dip plus salsa and chips. Everything was cold and full of grease and tasted old. The cheese dip looked like a mix of brown water 3 pieces of pepper and a ball of cold cheese that was dumped in it. Legit the worst mexican food i've has here in denver. Luckily grubhub gave me a refund for my order and allowed me to still tip the driver too. I definitely won't be ordering anything from here again ever in life. I've attached pictures as well. I'm throwing the entire order in the trash it's starting to smell awful too
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
Awesome local place - fantastic, friendly staff and good food! Loved sitting on the patio and the happy hour margaritas. Chile rellenos are also great!
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
Super-divey place with tons of history. Walk in and it's like you're back in the 70's. It's ginormous-- Can only imagine what it was like back in the day. Now it's usually empty, even with limited hours. They do a bang-up lunch business, probably because of the ample parking so close to downtown. If you can catch them when they're open, food is decent and servers are friendly. Not the best Mexican in Denver but pretty reliable.
google avatar

Cindy B.

Yelp
#1 They charge for chips and salsa. What kind of Mexican restaurant charges for chips and salsa, the cheapest and easiest appetizer to serve? #2 Their business hours and days of operation are totally inconvenient for customers, but probably great for the owners and staff: M-Th, lunch; Fri, lunch through dinner. They must not need the money. I guess if I or other customers are craving Mexican food when they are closed, we will have to take our business elsewhere. Done. Not that hard to do in Denver. #3 Ambiance-none. Is it "Old World Charm" or just being cheap? #4 The food. The food is good, but see numbers, one, two and three.
google avatar

Gino R.

Yelp
Don't do it. Save your money. Used to be good and now it's trash. Horrible food and horrible service. Using the least quality food. The Mexican Food Trucks are way way better. I'll never go there again. How bad.... chew glass instead
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
It's been 10+ years since my first review, so I thought I would update this now that I've been back in Denver for a few years. La Fiesta continues to be one of my favorite places to get Colorado's own style of Mexican food. My favorites continue to be the Chile Relleno plate, chicharrones, and Esteban combination. I've also had the steak and it's actually pretty close to some simple steaks I've had in Baja. Anyhow, if you want some great tasting Mexican food and green chile with friendly service, come check out this local legend. Btw, they added Friday nights a few years back too now.
google avatar

Cathy G.

Yelp
Amazing dinner and drinks, my 1st Mexican dinner and I can't wait to come visit my brother again and have a awesome meal at this place, I was fortunate to meet owners grandson and I must say it was a pleasure meeting & talking to you.
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
Better than last time, the DUGAN COMBINATION has everything I want, well, except the egg, which I remember was so good from last time, I requested a sunny side up on top of my chicken enchilada, it got placed on the crispy chile relleno instead, oh well. Asked for refried beans instead of rice, it was OK, I just gotta remember La Fiesta doesn't have the best refried beans, they're not bad, just not the greatest. The Xango fried cheesecake is more the reason to come back, read my last review for details.

Emma C.

Yelp
An all time Denver fave. Chili rellenos are great and the chips and salsa is tooooo! Just wish they had tamales! Also the happy hour marg deal is everything.

Yelp
Very good, unpretentious Mexican can food. Very friendly service and nice family atmosphere. We had so much food for very reasonable prices. Great!

Yelp
Grabbed a take-out order from here tonight and it was delicious! I live out of state now but always enjoy coming back home and eating all the Mexican food I can, and this really hit the spot. The packaging was great, no spills, perfectly correct order, and it stayed warm all the way home. The food itself was awesome, the green chile was delicious with the perfect amount of heat and the chile rellenos were out of this world. Also loved the strawberry margarita and the thought they put into it by making it right before we walked out so it'd stay frozen until we got home. The rest of the family got a bean and beef burrito, a quesadilla, and the enchilada plate and everyone loved their food. I was also blown away by the guac, possibly the best guac I've ever had. I licked the cup it came in clean and I'm not ashamed to admit it. The entire experience was just great, it was very clear they were focused 100% on maintaining safety during this time, they let us know they were sanitizing everything between people coming in and out and they wore gloves while ringing us up and the food handoff itself was non-contact. Not to mention that the people were so so so kind and wonderful. We had a fantastic (distanced!) conversation with them and it's very clear they love their customers, community, and their restaurant so much. I'm so happy they're able to stay open for orders during this time and would encourage everyone to either get delivery or do take-out until it reopens for dine-in! It was a delicious meal and it feels great to support a local institution with such wonderful people working there.

Sommer S.

Yelp
If you live or work in Denver, this long-standing lunch spot is a MUST! Over many visits, I've enjoyed the Chile rellenos, Salsa, taco salad, enchiladas, burrito, and more. I've never had a less than delicious meal and usually go back to work wishing I could succumb to my food coma - haha! Wait staff is attentive and usually super-nice!
google avatar

Robb R.

Yelp
Great chili relleno's!!! Service was excellent and I will definitely go back! Also enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa.
google avatar

Ste L.

Yelp
Every time I'm back home in Denver I have to come here and eat my smothered chicken tacos. The mix of spice, cheese, tortilla and chicken is to die for. Green Chile on any of their food is the route to go in my opinion.
google avatar

Brock S.

Yelp
Meh, this is faux-mexican for old white people. No corn adobada street tacos here. Nice venue, meh food.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
The server and I started off on the wrong foot when I ordered a margarita and he told me it was 2 for 1 because of happy hour and then looked at his watch and said actually I had just missed happy hour. Why did he want to toy with my emotions like that? It was just cruel. But, after that hiccup, we got along just fine. I am a person that likes to eat little bites of everything so I can try it all. La Fiesta helps me out by offering pretty much everything a la carte. So I was able to try a taco, a tostada and an enchilada, all with different stuff inside and even both the red and green chile. Holy fire in my mouth! That green chile is spicy. The salsa is spicy. I had to order some guacamole to tone it down. When our server took our order he said, "I'll be right back." And he actually came right back with our food. It took approximately 5 minutes. Amazing. It was good, but still not up to my favorite place - Los Carboncitos - good. Important things to know is that they are open until 9 pm (at least on the weekends) and it's cash only friends.

Yelp
Stick to the Chile Rellenos & Green Chile and you'll be fine. This place has incredibly weird hours. No dinner hours Monday thru Thursday, then they're closed on Saturday & Sunday. WTF? It made it really, really difficult to find a time to get downtown to use my Groupon type thing. They do have their own parking lot, which would be helpful if they were ever open at a convenient time. I ordered the Beef Fajitas. Don't do that. They are not good. I'm not sure what grade of beef it is or if it is even beef. Just, take a pass. But, because it was obvious it was my first time there, they hooked me up with a Chile Relleno sample with Green Chile and that was pretty fantastic. Their chips and salsa are quite good as well. Stick to the Chile Rellenos and you'll be fine.
