La Filanda

"Situated in the heart of the historic centre, this restaurant occupies an old spinning mill ("filanda")  that has been completely restored without losing any of its original charm. Here, self-taught chef Barbara serves traditional dishes reinterpreted with real flair, such as the involtino di ciaffagnone filled with Maremma beef on a bed of melted pecorino cheese and crispy leek. The chef’s husband oversees the wine list, which includes a selection of Tuscan labels." - Michelin Inspector

What a great dining experience! Everyone was so pleasant and accommodating! The bread balls were fabulous and the snails were beyond delicious!! We shared the beef for two and ended up taking some home! Also, the view was spectacular ! We highly recommend this beautiful quaint restaurant!

My sister and friends just enjoyed a most fantastic dining experience. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived and they customized from their menu a beautiful tasting experience. We enjoyed pate, pasta, soup, steak and dessert. Each taste was better than the previous enjoyed bite. Should our travels bring us back to Manciano, we will visit Barbara and Paolo first!

One of the top food experiences I’ve had in. The. World. Cinghiale was amazing, wine was amazing, dessert was… you guessed it AMAZING! (Also, can’t beat the sunset view. 💕)

We came across this restaurant completely by chance and are so glad we did. It was a fabulous meal - every dish was an absolute treat! All the staff were so friendly. The view from the table towards the sea and Monte Christo as the sun set was truly memorable and our family of 5 all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was worth every penny and we wish Barbara and the team the very best of luck. They deserve it.

Chef Barbara was welcoming and wonderful- we took her cooking class and she skillfully walked us through each dish. She was patient and encouraging for a couple that isn’t very skilled at cooking. The view for our dinner was absolutely beautiful with the Tuscan sunset. Chef Barbara, her husband, and staff were very kind and welcoming. I wholeheartedly recommend taking the cooking course or stopping by for a meal. The food was our best meal in Italy.

I've probably eaten in over 300 restaurants in Tuscany is this rates as one of the worst. Terrible service and for Tuscany terrible food. Bad wine list and small portions for everything except the weird fried beef kids dish. Generally overpriced. Ant Tuscan. Bland, tasteless food served by sloppy and scruffy staff. Avoid. I don't get the reviews, hungry Americans maybe. Dreadful place. You can see from the reaction to the bad reviews that these people are unprofessional, do not be fooled by the 4.5 star rating, this place is bad in nearly every aspect. PS open the wine at the table mate.

Yelp
We sat outside and it was quite nice. Even though the staff couldn't see us and we were the only ones outside, they did come by often enough to take care of us. Until the check. It happens often in Europe that you have to beg for the check, which we did twice here then we just got up to go to the front of the restaurant where we saw chef Barbara's husband who apparently has to hand write all checks. Silly. Guess he was tied up for a while? The food was good, I started with a tagliatellina with asparagus. Delicious and right-sized to allow for the larger main course. My wife had the involtini and liked it. I then had the duck three ways, and it was a bit disappointing overall. The duck prosciutto on arugula was good but the duck burger was a bit dry. Its sauce however made it taste good. The duck breast was overcooked and a bit dry also. The cod was tasty but had a fair amount of bones in it. We had a bottle of wine indigenous to the area, a ciliegiolo, which was nice.

Yelp
Possibly the best dining experience from our two weeks in the area. The setting is modern and clean with a wonderful selection of wine. The staff was incredibly friendly and chef/owner Barbara paid special attention to us as English speakers. Most of the fare on the menu is emblematic of the region but executed at a very high level and with a distinctive flair. I had the slow cooked boar in red wine with olive oil mashed potatoes and was blown away by it. Just delicious. My wife had a vegetable strudel which was fresh, green and incredibly vibrant. The salume platter nearly killed us but I would do it all again. Highly recommend to anyone near Manciano in Tuscany just call ahead to make sure they're open. There doesn't seem to be much consistency in their hours.

Yelp
Fantastic! Not only delicious but very unique twist on traditional Italian. This was at the end of our time of 10 day trip. Best atmosphere that we have come across. Great, friendly service ( even if you are American). Pici was great and eggplant appetizer - all great

Yelp
We came here on New Year's Eve after reading rave reviews. I've never posted a negative comment but this wasn't what it's reputation presented. The waitress was "brought back" after a year and didn't realize they did not have a full bar. No problem, we are easy. But after sitting for an hour with no drinks or food, it wasn't a good start. The prix fixed menu that I ordered came out randomly, and duplicative. Waitress didn't even know what I was being served. Appetizers came out after the main course for my table mates. Some of the dishes were delicious but the uneven service and food delivery was unpleasant. Some of the food was lukewarm. . On the plus side, the ambiance of the room was spectacular and they gave us free champagne. The cheese tray was delicious when we received it - 2 hours later. I would come here again when it wasn't New Years and hopefully would get a better waitress. I think that was a lot of the problem. Barbara the chef was lovely

Yelp
What a wonderful experience!! The food was exquisite and Chef Barbara was a fantastic hostess. The entire staff was very welcoming. Be sure to share your entrees and try a bit of everything. The design of the building is amazing as well. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Our second time here interested past two days. We couldn't leave the beautiful place without one more time. Atmosphere cool chill, warm spa like.

Yelp
Chef Barbara was very welcoming and staff was great. Food was excellent. My husband and I share three items and they were very accommodating, making sure to bring us an extra plate with each course. I highly recommend their red house wine. It's a local wine and very reasonably priced. You can charge the bill but you do have to tip in cash.

Yelp
Superb food, well-prepared with excellent, friendly service. I had stone-heated steak, which was a new experience for me. The stone was as hot as fire and stayed hot the whole time. Barbara speaks good English and came out to make sure we were satisfied. Her husband made a show of aerating the chianti he served us, and it was just right for our meal. I highly recommend this place.
