I loved the food at this charming cozy little place! I had the bandeja tipica, a dish at a great price, IIRC about $12, with a lean, thin steak, CHICHARRON (fried pork rind, guilty pleasure!), fried egg, baked beans, rice, fried plantain, and a small corn cake. I also ordered a beef empanada ($1.25), a beef patty, for an appetizer. While the food is amazing, the prices here are so affordable. A "mini" version of the above platter is available for just $9.25!
The bandeja tipica for me is a weakness... it's a very hearty platter of great-tasting food. The steak, like I said, is a thin cut of meat and can be a bit tough, but still quite rich in flavor. The chicharron is a thick cut of pork skin, like a thick cut of bacon, crispy with meat, fat and skin on it. The rice is not bland but cooked savory and just right, as are the beans. The fried plantain was quite sweet and soft. The arequipa, or corn cake, was quite dry and hard - not my preference when it comes to baked corn goods, but I'm not complaining for the variety and quantity of food provided here. The empanada was alright - the bread on the outside was not impressive.
The place is charmingly decorated with items and motifs from rural Colombia, some Colombian music videos are playing on the television. Service is very friendly. Definitely a great place to go with friends.
