La Fleur de Sel

The whole team were welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. We speak French so can't comment on how it would feel for others. The problem is with the food and wine. Portion size for my St-Jacques scallops was from a child's menu and the size of the steak my wife was given - whilst very well cooked - amounted to four mouthfuls. Desserts were creative but not as described... my 'millefeuille au chocolat' was simply some home-made mousse with two brandy snaps. Not what I was expecting. But the biggest disappointment was the wine which was a good Saint-Chinian red which retails at around €17 a bottle. They charged €45 which is a disgraceful mark-up. If it hadn't been our wedding anniversary at the end of an otherwise lovely day, I would have complained. Don't go unless you either don't care how much these "experiences" cost or you don't normally eat very much anyway. Shame as the staff were lovely.

The staff was so nice and friendly and the samosa with shrimp was delicious and also the dessert that I chose (Mousse au caramel fleur de sel, cœur coulant et palet Breton) was really good.

Had late lunch and it was a complete hit. I had the fish of the day and they accommodated a different sauce as I didn’t like the one that was served originally. My husband had the best foie gras he ever had so we were really happy. Lovely staff, great food.

When there are so many restaurants to choose from in La Rochelle, we were disappointed in the service at this one. My friend and I, who is French, chose this restaurant out of many. The food was fine, but where they went wrong was with their service. Our waitress, after serving our meal, literally disappeared for the rest of the time we were there. Along with our meal, we ordered a bottle of wine. We had almost finished the bottle when I went to take a drink from my glass and noticed a fly, still alive, floating in the glass. This of course, was no ones fault, it just happened. But when my friend got the attention of the manager, maybe the owner, to show him, instead of just saying sorry and giving me a new glass, he VERY curtly said, "Well, we didn't service it to you like that". What a horrible thing to say to a customer. Of course they didn't since I had been drinking from it. He then sent over another server, not ours, who took the glass and the rest of the bottle, which still had some wine left in it, away. He came back with a new glass of wine, which was not even close to what we were drinking. It was just a very uncomfortable situation to put a customer in. I have since gone back and read the 'bad' reviews of this restaurant and it seems that the manager has a reputation for not being so friendly. Which is concerning since he is working in the hospitality industry. My friend, who has family near La Rochelle, will not be leaving a great review with them and their friends.

We had a wonderful meal served simply but vey well prepared. Our appetizers of oysters from île de Re and fois gras were delicious. The bac de cod was a large portion and the “risotto” served with it was more farro like than rice but terrific. The sole meunière (deboned by my server) was delicate and Well seasoned with lemon. Our desserts of profiteroles and caramel glacé were a perfect ending. Service was friendly and prompt and English spoken well. A bargain at the price of 100 euros including wine.

Service was a little uneven to start, but got better as the evening went on. We both have from the menu at 35 euros (which was a great value). Portion sizes were good, food was cooked quite well, and the fish from the market was excellent.

We had a lovely meal here. The waiters were excellent and spoke brilliant English which we definitely appreciate and don’t take for granted…. The set menu is a good price at €27. The starters are relatively big and quite filling - I loved the little prawn samosas but not sure it needed so much of the avocado moose with it. The home made chips served with the main courses were delicious. I had the mussels in the curry sauce and they were lovely - small mussels but very tasty and just the right size after having eaten a starter. The beef looked very good and I was told it was very tasty and well cooked.

Good overall experience, food tastes fresh and home made. Selection of wine is good and well recommended by the sommelier. The basic menu Is always you need for a great dinner.

One of the best place in that street. Advise: have a reservation, especially if more than 3 people. Great plates with flavor. The "fish of the market" is always a great inspiration; had espadon with bean purée. Was good, just a little less cook would have been exceptional The service is always good.

The dinner setting started at 1830, and it was many tables inside and outside. The staff was both polite and knowledgable! We ordered the 3.cours meal, it was great. Good value for it's money! The location is also very good, in a cozy street close to the center.

We went to La Fleur de Sel and had a nice 3 course lunch there. Value for money with their menu is very good. Personally I didn't care much about the brown fish-soup I had as a starter nor about the (non vanilla-custard) Crème brûlée - but there was nothing really wrong with both and the main dish was very much to my taste. The waiters were quite friendly and quick. During the tourist-season and on week-ends, reservations are definitely recommended, the place was packed when I was there.

Fantastic restaurant! Great value for money, we've been there a few times and never disappointed. Everything is always delicious. They also have a pretty good wine list.

Rancid tuna followed by an indignant waiter yelling at us because we sent it back. The replacement wasn't me ch of an improvement... pan fried pork in corn starch based sauce.
