Cult-Favorite Jollibee Inches Closer to Its Downtown LA Opening [UPDATE] - Eater LA

"Last week, Los Angeles marked 30 years since LAPD officers were acquitted for beating Rodney King, which was followed by six days of civil unrest. The Los Angeles Times wrote two stories that followed the perspective of restaurants, one about the USC-adjacent La Flor Blanca and the El Salvadoran community." - Mona Holmes

This little whole in the wall made my day. Dont bother by its unpretentious appearance. I arrived at 5:30pm and they didn't have caldo de gallina, caldo de pata and pescado empanizado. So I was already in bad mood and ordered cielo mar y tierra, pupusas revueltas and an ensalada. Oh boy oh boy...dishes were delicious, affordable and right quantity. Service was quick and friendly.I noticed they had a lot of take out business here. Place is small and it is understandable ppl take ou but the amount of orders says a lot of the flavor and service. 🥰. I would definitely return to this restaurant but earlier so I can enjoy the caldo de gallina. Note this is cash only.

We came to La Flor Blanca before going to see the El Salvador VS Guatemala game. The people there were super nice and accommodating! The restaurant is a small, tight space. We were a party of 5 and they had no issue rearranging tables and chairs for us. The waitress told us the pupusas were were medium sized and they came back enormous. I can’t imagine what a large pupusa would look like. We got revueltas and my mom got pollo encebollado. We all agree that we must come back! Food was so good! They use red beans (which tasted amazing) for the pupusas; super authentic!!!

Soups are made fresh daily Love it .... Going there for the past 30 years

Google
Pretty good spot came here first day I landed from Texas I’d recommend it

I’m deaf All of foods and drinks are so real and delicious. When I was a kid, and went to that restaurant many times. Watching the TV :)

Google
Terrific pupusas and pollo en crema. Quick friendly service. Very small with seating for ~25 total. Atmosphere is homey, comfortable and unassuming - a slice of El Salvador. I heard only Spanish spoken.

Carlos M.

Google
Honestly when the ladies are there taking orders you get great service and honest prices, but now they have some guy there that's taking orders and charging more then is usually charged. Even placing an order on the phone the man isn't professional and sounds as if you are doing him a favor. If I ever do come back and he answers or is there I will not be eating there.

Kevin P.

Google
Always kind to me, for years I didn't know they accepted zelle until the end of last year which is really handy! Their bread is really good

Yelp
I ordered five pupusas and two bottled drinks to go and was surprised with the price increase. Considering the economy the total was still reasonably. Friendly and courteous service. Two downsides: only cash is accepted and very limited parking. Suggestion: the place could use some maintenance.

Yelp
This location is a charming family restaurant. Reminded me of eating at mi Tia's house. The service was attentive and fast. When we arrived, the place was packed! But they allowed us to order before we sat. The food arrived only little after we were sat, so it was perfect! We ordered 2 breakfast plates, a loroco pupusa, and fruit salad drink. We liked everything, especially the pupusa. The cheese pull was wonderful, loaded with cheese! And the cheese and curtido had great flavor. I like my tomato sauce a little spicier than this but I know salvis don't always like it like that. The pupusas and tortias were not heavy and doughy like other places. Will definitely be back to try the caldos and more pupusas.

Yelp
Great food (5/5), reasonably priced for pupusas. The parking is decent. The service is 4/5.

Yelp
This is a super popular hole in the wall in South LA. It's cash only and parking is a little tricky but you will find street parking if you look for it. Be sure to know your order before going in as the staff is usually super busy taking orders. The Pupusas took a bit of time but it was worth it because they were so fresh. The filling to masa ratio was good, and the curtido and sauce was typical. I got a revuelta and loro o pupusa and both were super flavorful and stuff generously. I'm coming back to this spot for sure

Yelp
They severed my food on a broken dish that can contain old food and bacteria stuck there in the crevices, it was not only expensive at 28$ for the plate, I complained to the cooks but they didn't seem to care.

Yelp
Came to this place thinking would be amazing due to all the great reviews it had, but the experience we had was not the greatest. People are really good at hyping places up. We ordered 2 desayunos típicos #2 lady repeated order and it was correct. Been waiting over 30 min for our food and they brought out the incorrect order so now we have to wait longer to get our food. I ordered my eggs over hard and brought me some over easy eggs. They asked the cook to make them again and brought me the same!! I asked the waitress that she repeated order to us and she said she did not hear us what we ordered. They keep messing up in my order. Took my plate back twice. Utensils where dirty has to send them back. The food has great taste but them not getting my order right and had to wait for it to be made again was what got to me. This is a place to come and you have nothing else to do that way they have enough time to remake your food over and over again. At this point I should have just ordered pupusas or a caldo. Over all experience was not the greatest.

Eva C.

Yelp
the food was bad I asked for beens with cheese and served me something com different because they did not have Beens I asked for scrambled eggs for my baby and they gave me eggs style Mexican with spicy sauce I told the waitrest and she said that was the only way she could order it the foood was very old and felt nasty it was not fresh my visit was a very bad experience how sad

Yelp
This is our go to spot for pupusas. The pupusas are a very good size. It's a small restaurant with very limited seating. We like to place our order over the phone and pick them up. Cash Only.
google avatar

Andy P.

Yelp
I've been coming here for almost 15 years and the food has always been Tasty, Anytime I order from here I always leave satisfied.
google avatar

Isabel L.

Yelp
It was my first time ordering from here. I made a phone order because normally, places that serve pupusas take a while, since the pupusas are hand made. I got to the place, it's a small place and thankfully, they had my order ready within the estimated time. Since it's Covid, we tend to eat in my car, in the parking lot or somewhere nearby the place we picked up food from. As we were getting ready to eat, I noticed that they only put 7 out of the 8 pupusas that I ordered. I called the place and the cashier was extremely kind enough to come and meet me in the parking lot with my missing pupusa. The food is very good and it is also very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend and I will be coming back.
google avatar

Yerlin L.

Yelp
Such a great spot for pupusas!! It's such a small restaurant but the food is delicious! I would not really recommend for dine in due to the small space but it's worth for take out in the comfort of your home.

Yelp
Delicious!!! Today we ordered caldo de 7 mares for my husband's hangover. So much food. It was great. Definitely you get what you pay for. It looked really good and my husband agreed to be great. The pupusas are my favorite. They are a descent size and tons of filling. So yummy!!!
google avatar

Ethne D.

Yelp
soooooo good! best pupusas ive ever had out of a dozen places ive tried. queso con loroco and chicharrón, solid cortido and salsa. really nice decorations and jukebox! all the staff were really sweet.

Vanessa Donna M.

Yelp
Came with a friend to this side of town to pick up some things before we left to Vegas. Both my friend and I were starving and my friend was craving some pupusas. He asked his friend to order some for pick-up from this joint. Located in the hood, it was a daring attempt to run in an out to get the pupusas. I stayed in the car while my friend ran for his life into the restaurant. I guess you can say that although our life's flashed before our eyes, the pupusas rebueltas were worth it at that time. They make them a decent size (I got full with just one). I like them crispy from the outside and soft from the inside. They were exactly how I like them and flavorful. Now the question is will I ever go back? The answer to that question will be no. Just because I don't want to die lol.
google avatar

Yelp
Pupusas on point!!! Horchatas on fleek! You can basically stuff yourself for about $5. There's a parking lot in the back. Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 (12/100)

Yelp
Food is great. Great prices. Service was good. But, if you look deep in your receipt you will encounter with this. Waitress couldn't even explain it herself, that she had to bring us this.
google avatar

Yelp
I grew up nearby on 41st and Woodland. It has been years since I've been in the area for food. I ordered one revuelta pupusa and small chicken soup. Both are awesome. I asked for pupusa to be cooked well done without hesitation they did...they called it tostada yes...yes...yes. just how I like it and the curtido and salsa the best. I stared how the lady did the pupusas...took me back to when my grandma did...later my mom finally learned how to make them. It's LA folks, don't expect anything else but LA style everything. I recommend. YES
google avatar

Alan G.

Yelp
Tried this place out as it is a few blocks from where I live. Ordered two revueltas and a coffee. Tiny spot that filled up quick so I was lucky to have my own table when I got there. The pupusas where good for the most part although I did want more filling. Seemed a bit light but I didn't get any large pockets of just Masa. I did like that they were a tad crispy as if they were left longer to cook and with the medium filling that made sense.A good amount of older people dining here for breakfast and almost to just hang out which is a good sign. Not an O face pupusa experience but but tasty enough that I'd come back another time and try out the CD jukebox and some other menu items.

Yelp
Small hole in the wall place with a handful of tables. Cash Only! We had a party of 11 and as soon as walked in/ we walked out due to how small the establishment is. Surprisingly the guy behind the register asked us how many in our party and proceeded to move customers to accommodate us. I was a little stunned and convinced the rest of our party to stay. Let me tell you- very happy that we did, the food was delicious and the portions were very adequate. Everyone was full and our total was less then $100. I will definitely return.

Yelp
Horrible experience this evening I had order 12 pupusas the bad experience was when my 8 year old discovered 3 dark curly hairs on her cheese pupusa. Not happy at all. I called the location back and told them about the incident the woman on the phone was apologetic but the incident had already made me upset and I will not recommend or return to this restaurant ever!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Reason for the 3 stars is because I cannot deny that the food was delicious. Had the Sopa de Gallina and pupusas. 3rd time eating from here and this was the 1st time ever picking it up myself. Estimated time for pick up was 20min, I gave it an extra 15 min just in case, and still it took about an hour to get my order. Which sucks because work only allows a certain time for lunch break. Restaurant is small and is located on busy street, make time to find parking. Inside restaurant, there were about 3 huge trays/tubs full of dirty plates and left over food, on front bar, next to tables where people were eating. Which for me, I think is very unsanitary. I mean I can see the chewed up food that was put back on plate for whatever reason. Waitress/hostess is the only one I was able to see and she was masked up although I couldn't see if she was sanitizing between customers or when touching money. But from what I saw, I doubt she did.

Yelp
Good food. Hit all kinds of internal spots that made me giggle. Only bad thing it's cash only. But the delicious food makes up for it
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
The one of the most best in restaurant the food is delicious and the service is excellent because they are friendly and positive to communicate with people. Employees understand about deaf culture. Enjoying the most beautiful day of the year in my life story.

Yelp
I work at the elementary school across the street. Every time I go home, I see La Flor Blanca Original. I decided to stop by today. The pupusas at this location are decent. The price is decent, I got 5 pupusas for 12.50$. The worker was very welcoming. The pupusas do take a while to be ready. It took about 30 minutes. They're made to order which is why they take long, and are always guaranteed fresh :3 She gave me a business card, so I can call ahead of time. If you're around the area, I recommend this location.
google avatar

Lupe C.

Yelp
I love this place! Best pupusas I've ever had! This is my go to spot! The cooks and servers are extremely nice and humble. It's definitely a must try when you're in LA
google avatar

Emmanuel A.

Yelp
This is my favorite Salvadorian restaurant, the food is delicious. The Pupusas de revuelta are a must try and in my opinion amongst the best in So-Cal, and when you dine-in they are generous with the curtido. I usually drink an ensalada (a refreshing drink with a variety of fruits). You could also try their horchata it quite different then the Mexican version. It's a small restaurant (hole in the wall) basic decor, small parking lot next to the church. Don't expect the service to brown-nose lol, it's basic and down to business, which is perfectly fine with me. The food is great!
google avatar

Bosun O.

Yelp
Yoooooo!!!! This spot is very dear to me. I lived in south LA for a year and thesw people basically became family. I started coming here for the pupusas... and then one day, it happened... i tried the desayuno! I customized it tho. I'm not a fan of cheese or cream so this is what i get on mine: Casamiento (rice and beans mixed), avacado, plantains and huevos picado (eggs with vegetables). Since then, i never looked back... EVER!!! I travel a lot for work so I've tried this combination in many salvadorian restaurants around the country. NO ONE COMES CLOSE... i live in carson now and i still drive down here to partake i this delicacy!!
google avatar

Barbara L.

Yelp
I ordered 2 pupusas with cheese and beans. One of my sisters did a revuelta and the other did 2 cheese. They voted mine the best. Their beans are flavored well and they give a lot of curtido with your order which is a plus. No need to ask for more. I added a little salt to my plate but other than that they were really good. Everything totaled out to about $10. Not bad at all.
google avatar

Carol T.

Yelp
The wait is worth it, small small place but when you come in they make you feel like your at your grandmas kitchen, it's loud and you can see the cooks making the pupusas, One hour parking on the street or park on the side lot for free
google avatar

Kat S.

Yelp
there's no street parking 4-7PM so park in the lot 2 stores west of restaurant. I was greeted with a smile at the door and ordered to go -perfect English from the waitress so no worries about that, and got a $2 pupusa (revuelta) and a $2 tamale (chicken). My pupusa was made to order so I sat and waited for 10 min. Spanish soap opera on the TV was a good time passer. Pupusa was giant and cheesy, good mix of beans, meat, and special cheese that oozed out a little and was slightly charred (just the way I like it :) Tamale was "salvadorean style" which i had never had before, it was 50% bigger than any mexican tamale and a lot wetter, not water... just slippery lol. lots of sauce, chicken had good flavor but i just couldnt get used to the texture of it all. food isn't bad, service is good, but I think I can find better pupusas in the area
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
TIP: CASH ONLY Pupusas in South LA. Each one costs $2.25 and are super delicious. I loved the combo one especially. Horchata was good too - creamy but not too sweet. Parking on the street or in the lot in the back.
google avatar

Teresa P.

Yelp
It's a hole in the wall type of joint but the food is amazing we drive about 45 min to eat here. The only reason I give it a 4 star is because they are very limited on sitting. In my opinion they should stay small to keep the great taste the good.
google avatar

Samuel C.

Yelp
The popusas here are inexpensive and probably the size of your face. If I'm ever in the LA area I would definitely go out of my way to eat here. The only inconvenience is that they are cash only.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
This is the best place in LA, maybe the whole nation for authentic Salvadorean food. I love the pupusas from here especially the revueltas. These guys are not stingy with the cheese and ingredients either. I have been a loyal customer for nearly 10 years! I am Salvadorean and I can tell you that this place is worth a drive and every single penny. The customer service is outstanding and the staff is very friendly. Call in your order in advanced because pupusas take from 15 to 20 minutes depending on how busy they are.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Hello everyone so my sister, my mom and, I set out to find some really delicious pupusas and I think we found them! La Flor Blanca restaurant gave us some really amazing pupusas and great service! I was really craving a loroco and cheese pupusas and my goodness my craving was most definitely satisfied! Not only did I have the loroco I also order a regular cheese and bean and just plain cheese. I had an order of rice, beans, fried plantains, crema, cheese, and side of avocado! On top of everything being delicious and great service the total for 3 people was $27.85, that's a pretty great deal! I would be definitely be returning soon to try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Gina O.

Yelp
I was craving platanos fritos and found this little place on yelp.. great reviews, so we decided to check it out. . And I'm so glad we did! Their Platanos fritos are amazing.. one of my favorite dishes and it was on point! Beans were perfect as well.. definitely my new place! Service is very friendly and food came out quick and hot.. we'll be back soon
google avatar

Mailyn C.

Yelp
Definitely a hole in the wall! Pupusas were some of the best I've had, and trust me I've tried a lot around the LA area from outside of churches to other establishments. Drinks were ok. Horchata was different from what I'm use to (I'm Guatemalan) and the Guanabana was nothing amazing. Bring cash! We had grilled shrimp plate, 4 pupusas, 2 drinks came out to a little under $30
google avatar

Stephanie Í.

Yelp
Took a trip to the back bathroom, and was appalled at what I saw. In the kitchen, I saw raw meat, blood dripping.. just sitting there by a sink full of dirty dishes. Area was full of flies. The bathroom was even worse. If I was a health inspector, this place would have been shut down immediately.
google avatar

Rolman M.

Yelp
Been here several times w/my mom and I've tried several of their dishes from breakfast, soups and pupusas.... No complaints on any of them as of yet! Great service to go along with their awesome food. Now as far as location and it being small... all true. But again can't go wrong with the food!
google avatar

Maria D M.

Yelp
Best in Calif. Don't be fool with the one on the corner. Original says La flor blanca and the other one is plain flor blanca.
google avatar

Josue R.

Yelp
Popusas are delicious. It's a little small and not too much seating. The servers were nice but there is almost no parking.
google avatar

Dejanai S.

Yelp
I always order on Uber Eats and the food is so good. On Thursday you can get pupusas for 1.25 and they are a nice size. I haven't tried anything else but every Thursday I place my Pupusas order

Leah C.

Yelp
Ordered for pick up, wait was 30 minutes but definitely worth it. We got 2 de revueltas and 2 se queso con loroco. First time trying loroco and was really tasty will definitely be goin back. Everything was well served. Unfortunately I didn't get any images.
google avatar

Sylvia R.

Yelp
This place is a small hole in the wall but it's really good. It's a must try. You might want to order in advance because the get really busy. Service is pretty good and fast. Parking is convenient.
google avatar

Salguero J.

Yelp
Its a small place nothing special but their pupusas are great! The ladies working there are rather humble and respectful in the contrary to other pupusa places in south central. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to eat tasty salvadorian food in the hood of south LA!!!
google avatar

Victor F.

Yelp
Really good Salvadoran food and it's really cheap. They have the best salvi food in LA. I like their breakfast and pupusas. Their service is always friendly and they remember you. They value their customers and do anything to keep customers happy. I come all the time (once a week).
google avatar

Aida D.

Yelp
So yes, this place is in the hood- south central to be exact- but the pupusas are rather great! which is what counts right!? YES! My fave are the "Chicharron" pupusas- but i gotta mix it up and also get a "revuelta" with cheese! GOD i love them!!! The place is small & a little grimy looking- but disregard all that. I always order to go, the place is a bit too small for me and I'd rather enjoy my euphoria in a much more comfortable place like home! Don't get shot on your way here! haha j/k...that never happens.. BTW- pupusas are around $2 each.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
To me, this was really one of those 'hidden' restaurants. Having never ventured farther West than Taco Bell, finding this extremely bustling restaurant with its warm environment of hungry people and the savory aroma of oil, meats and dough was a welcomed surprised on Sunday morning. Walking in with very no expectations, along with no idea of what exactly a pupusa was, I ordered the pupusa revuelta - a well oiled flat-bread, tortilla dish filled with generous servings of cheese, grounded pork and beans. The pupusa itself was an interesting dish that consisted of the chef hand-rolling out the corn dough and mixing it with the meat and beans and pan-frying with a lot of oil. The oil, I suspect, is what released the delicious flavors that came with each bite of the pupusa. The oozing of the warm oil, thick tortilla and meats was a gastronomical new experience for me. I think I would definitely go back and try another flavor - next time: Chicharrón.

Johanna L.

Yelp
What bad service by the owner i had placed my order and i took a seat at at a table with 2 seats and a couple walks in the restaurant and wanted to use the table that i was using so they could sit there and hence there was 3 other available tables but they wanted by table by force so the owner comes to me and pulls out a chair from the side of the counter and asked me to sit there How freaking Rude I placed an order for my Family Im A Paying Customer I told him I was not going to move because where he wanted me to sit was in the passageway which was blocking more available tables which also meant that each time someone came in the restaurant I would have to move to accommodate them Bad Service!!!!!!!!!! And by the Owner!!!!!!
