Winter in the French Alps: Where to Eat and Stay According to Our MICHELIN Guide Inspectors

"Known as an après-ski hotspot, La Folie Douce pairs world-class cabaret performances with French mountainside staples and is cited as a place where the slopeside revelry becomes part of the evening’s entertainment." - Lane Nieset

La Folie Douce (Chamonix, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"High luxury and cutting-edge design are both available in the Alps, but they don’t come together under one roof all that often. La Folie Douce, in Chamonix, is the rare exception: a Belle Époque beauty with over 250 rooms and suites, five restaurants, a heated outdoor pool, and a well-equipped spa and fitness center, all redesigned in a sophisticated contemporary style. It’s more family-friendly than you might expect from such a chic hotel, with a long list of kids’ club offerings, and during the winter-sports season you’ll appreciate the fact that the nearest ski lift is just steps away." - Tablet Hotels

Yes, it's crowded, and if you don't know how to ski - there's no way back. And it's 3 times more expensive then other places - but the music is great. And for a short visit it worth it.

This place rocks! Literally. Live performance (vocal, guitar and saxophone) on top of well known hits. So one part is drinks and dance, while the other is a restaurant with great food.

Le Folie Douce is an unforgettable après-ski bar that perfectly captures the spirit of the mountainside. With its vibrant atmosphere, it offers a fantastic mix of bass-heavy live music that gets everyone in the mood to unwind after a day on the slopes. The views are simply stunning, adding to the overall experience as you enjoy your drink. The combination of great tunes, beautiful surroundings, and an energetic vibe makes it a must-visit spot for anyone looking to soak in the mountain’s charm.

What a place! A great bar to go to after skiing a day. We got there slightly early and managed to catch the daily pack pack skiers making their way up on skis or on foot. The music was great, the DJ on the balcony had everyone happy! The drinks were reasonable and of course, everyone gets to take a cup home.

One of the leading restaurant and bar chains in France. Every day from 14:00 there is a party with DJ, singer and saxophone. The prices of the place are among the highest there are. Beer on tap - 9€ Hot chocolate - 7.5€ The atmosphere is great and the location is perfect for an après ski party until the cable cars close and down with the skis to the town of Val Torrance

The service was a bit slow I waited around 25 minutes for a cheeseburger, but otherwise the food was great and not very expensive, you can also find a bar outside where you can order drinks quickly. The view from the restaurant was amazing. There was also live music with a dj

Google
Great place to go after a few hours on the slopes. The food isn't amazing, but let's be honest, it's a few thousand feet up a mountain so the fact you eat there is something that should be applauded. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is spot on. Just be careful with the amount of drinks you have, the slopes can be unforgiving after a few beers!

Been here several times over the years for lunch, not for the apres. Generally have had a nice time for lunch even if prices are a little high but is to be expected. However in the last year they have made changes that unfortunately mean I will not return and would not recommend to anyone. Firstly the food quality has gone downhill massively, bolognaise is watery and full of small twigs from seasoning they haven’t bothered to remove - choking hazard. Chips are plentiful but they were burned to a crisp with no flavour at all. Lastly they have introduced a horrid policy of charging you to use the toilets 50 cents even for paying customers. And they have 2 solemn looking men completely blocking the stairs to the bathroom to bully you into paying. Also patting down people at about 1:45 pm coming in for lunch. If it was at 3-4pm for apres I would understand but this was before 2pm my elderly parents being aggressively patted down just trying to come for a bad lunch. Paid £50 for an awful burger and chips and a tiny glass of wine only to be bullied into paying to use the bathroom.

Yelp
World class après ski bar. We reserved a VIP table for six people and had the time of our lives. To compare it to establishments that attempt to recreate this atmosphere in North America, the music / emceeing at La Folie Douce Val Thorens was phenomenal, the setting is unbeatable, the crowd was much more authentic, and the minimum spend was very reasonable. There are people who take ski trips to Europe just to party at places like this, and you don't need to spend more than 20 minutes here to understand why. Even the food is good. The service in the VIP section was exceptional. At Cloud 9 at Aspen you get rich kids from LA who don't know how to ski and at Longhorn at Whistler you get all the tech bros from Seattle who go there so often that to them it's just another Saturday. You'll definitely see more champagne sprayed per capita at one of those other places, but at La Folie Douce you'll get to focus on living in the moment, not trying to fit into the frame of someone else's moment that you saw on social media a month before your trip.

Yelp
Get a beer, get on the table, dance...it's simple. If your sitting down then you will definitely be the odd one out. The highlight of this unique ski venue is the saxophone player that graces us every afternoon from 4pm when the bar is literally full to the brim with skiers and snowboarders from all over Val Thorens. Before this it's usually very quiet with just a few afternoon drinkers having a quick rest stop, then mayhem begins and doesn't end until the slopes have iced up ready for the blue run home. This bar is unforgettable and one of the best experiences whilst skiing in the Val Thorens area. Breathtaking views present themselves while you dance and drink away to create this absolute genius of a venue! 5 stars, easily. http://www.youtube.com/user/Seren009#p/f/29/pLUhfuS2Do0 - My university definitely left it's mark on this place, stylish.

Yelp
I love this place. But things ain't what they used to be. Last year, every time we rolled up on the chair lift, the music was bumping and people were having a blast. This year, the first day there was no DJ outside and inside was crappy music. This meant that we went to the 360 bar - which seems pretty cool but the owner is a huge....meanie...about bringing a beer or two to drink on the periphery before going to dance (which is the whole attraction to the Folie Douce). The next day, the good old DJs were back - and so it was awesome. But then for the rest of the week the DJs were aweful and spent most of the time yelling to stop the music and for everyone to make more noise. Then hed told everyone to sit down, people outside got bored and started throwing snowballs...security came, yelled....basically it was lame. I might not come back to Val Tho next year and this would be 65% of the reason why. Folie Douce, you let me down.

Yelp
La Folie Douce Val Thorens is well known in the area as THE place to go for apres. It really is great fun on a blue sky day... As long as you have the cash. €9 for a beer is pretty steep on seasonaire wages but if you're on holiday with cash to burn then go for it, get up on those tables and dance! It can become VERY crowded though, and make sure you bring ID if your under the age of 30 as during school holidays everyone seems to get ID'd regardless of how haggard and old you actually are :/ If you love dance music, dancing girls in bikinis and champagne sprayed on your face from the DJ box then Folie Douce is the place for you.

Yelp
THE place to go for apres ski in Val Thorens. Dutch lady performing live music from the balcony, popping champagne bottles over the ones underneath her. Loved the music. Lots of people celebrating life here with a gluhwein, beer or bottle of champagne/rosé. It's very extravagant. Loved it though! Unfortunately no WiFi..
