The Best Restaurants in East Boston

"La Fonda Colombiana makes some of the best tostones and pinto beans we’ve ever had, and some days, we just order a lot of both and binge-watch Floor Is Lava. If you’re looking for other food too, we’re also fans of the chicharrón, camarones al ajillo, and bandeja paisa, though the massive platters may be hard to balance if you somehow find yourself jumping from the couch to the dining room table." - joel ang

La Fonda Colombiana - Review - East Boston - Boston - The Infatuation

"La Fonda is a casual Colombian spot in Eastie that’s plastered wall to wall with soccer posters and beer ads. They’ve got great tostones and stewed pinto beans - in fact, the beans are so good that we’d come back here just to order them again. There’s also a wide variety of seafood on the menu, with things like trucha frita and salmon enchiladas." - Joel Ang

I ordered a DoorDash and waited an hour. I called the restaurant at the request of the driver who waited 40 minutes to receive it and the woman who answered as if she was coming out of a deep sleep basically didn’t seem to care when I asked if I should just cancel the order. She goes “if you want to.” Like she didn’t give a hoot if they sold me food or not. Then she goes “or if you want I can check on the order “ I think common sense hit her and she “checked” two seconds later the DoorDash app said my food was in the way. Eff this place. Colombian restaurant are a dime a dozen here. Good luck staying in business with that attitude.

Staying at the Hilton Garden: eat overpriced ordinary hotel food? Nah! Walk half a mile to this plain and simple joint and have a great shrimp quesadilla and a couple of Coronas for less than $30 with a reggaeton soundtrack.

Google
Very small and friendly restaurant serving tasty Columbian food. I had the Bisteck A Caballo and it was amazing. Every bite was delicious - I blame the sauce. The server was attentive and friendly. The wait for the food seemed long, but I may have just lost track of time. The place is decorated in warm tones, and appears decently clean, but does have a dive restaurant feel, in a good way. They have a tv on one wall that was playing the patriots game. I will definitely be back!

I had the worst experience with their online website. I ordered through the restaurant website, but it never showed that it was closed. I walked to the restaurant, and they told me the kitchen had been closed since 9:30 p.m. I ordered at 9:50 p.m., but it never said they were closed online. They took the money from my account, and I'm unable to get it refunded. I called the restaurant, but no one responded; the phone just kept ringing.

Google
Phenomenal spot for Colombian food! Extremely traditional and the vibe is relaxed. The customer service is great and was attended to as soon as I sat. I got the bandeja paisa and it blew my mind! Wish they had desserts at that time but that will not take away from this review. Definitely will come back when in Boston I highly recommend.

Google
Excellent Colombian tipico food. The food was well prepared and tasty. You'll definitely get your money's worth. The picture of the combination plate that I had is the small serving of this dish.

Yelp
The pictures don't do it justice since it was carry out since i ordered to my hotel but the portion was good and the arepa and carne were great. Also got plantains on the side which were actually tostones, they were good too. The sauce with the arepa and carne was so so good, I would almost order extra of that! Would love to dine in and try more next time I'm in town.

Yelp
" Little hole in the wall , but food is fresh , big portion size and cheap " We went here for a late lunch . The food tasted fresh , we had a little of everything , of the fried Colombia street food . The prices are economical. The staff is overly friendly. The vibe is very warm . Parking is difficult but manageable. The place is very small more built for take out .

Yelp
Very rude and overbearing bouncer shakes you down as soon as you walk in to the establishment. I live in Medellin, Colombia half the year. I have never been treated so poorly in the US or Colombia. This guy is obviously not Colombian, just a rude BIG man with a cheap badge and very low intelligence. Low class operation.

Yelp
Hole in the wall kinda space, it was weird as I am a very average guy and when I walk in a smoke show looking Colombian woman approached me. I was genuinely confused. She worked there and was just trying to make sure I was good. Beers were eight bucks and the bartender did some cool little thing with a napkin to the modelo bottle. Habla algo de espanol pero ellas. Not so much English. It didn't mater as they were professionally friendly. Did I mention they were good looking women?

Yelp

Yelp
This was our first visit to Orient Heights in Boston. We love the more local Boston neighborhoods like East Boston much more than the touristy overpriced downtown spots. On our way to Milano's for pizza we stumbled across La Fonda. This is a super cute little Colombian local spot for food and drinks. Super friendly server took our order for takeout as we were heading back to Maine. The chicharron looked and smelled incredible and was packed with tortillas and lime wedges. The special included a chicken and rice soup, shredded beef , salad and side. We will definitely return to try some new specials and empanadas!

Yelp
I'll admit that I landed at this place because the restaurant I planned to visit, was closed. This place was open and despite the little dive appearance, the food was good and the portions were generous. The breaded chicken was huge, the Plato tipico was on point! The tostone with everything was really good as well. I do not suggest the Arroz con pollo unless you like hot dogs! The waitress was friendly enough and was really trying to manage all the tables and the take out orders too. Now, I have issue with how the receipts were managed. I'd prefer transparency about charges. A party of four had 18% tip included in the original receipt. When I gave my credit card, they brought back a different receipt that didn't label the already included %18 tip but it showed an additional 5% "convenience fee" and left the tip line blank with recommended tip amounts. Now, had I not read the original receipt, I would of mistakenly tipped again. So, the take home message is - read your receipt carefully, maybe even snap a picture so that you know exactly what the deal is.
