The Best Places to Eat at the Jean-Talon Market | Eater Montreal

"What’s a visit to a Montreal market without a bit of maple? Les Sucreries De L’Érable (an outpost of a Dunham-based enterprise) sells a range of delicious quiches, pies and tarts with a wholesome, homemade quality. The showpiece of the traditional Quebecois shop is, naturally, the maple sugar pie. For those without a sweet tooth, the quiches are equally appetizing." - Mallory Frayn

We decided to take some time to re-discover the Marche Jean-Talon. Walking inside, we saw the traditional fruits and vegetable market. Upon reaching essential point in the market, we noticed this place that sells pies. The reviews were so good and the pies look so delicious that we couldn’t help ourselves. Plus it was in around lunchtime so we decided to snack on the chicken pot pie and have the pecan maple pie as dessert. Both pies were really delicious. We managed to find a place to sit just in front along the corridor. Everything was good. The one thing we wished was different was the method to reheat the pie so that we can have it on site. It appears they reheated it in the microwave, which I understand cooks faster, however we might’ve preferred the freshness had it been warmed up in a small, toaster oven, even though it takes slightly longer to warm up. at least we would’ve had that crunchy bite feeling. But it’s not the end of the world. We could’ve also grabbed the pie and brought it home and reheated it ourselves in our own toaster oven. They have small bite-size pies, which are perfect for a snack on the go. We recommend checking this place out and grabbing yourselves a pie or two.

Wowww the quiches are great! I got Lorraine and spinach. One is heavy, the other lighter so it was perfect to eat together. If I was not picky it could be slightly more crispy, but otherwise amazing. I liked the cookie too, wow. Old lady at the counter is nice

Incredibly delicious!! You have to try the Maple syrup and Pecan tarte! Unforgettably flavorful and perfect texture! The brownie is also incredible. Very moist and dense on the inside, while crunchy on the outside.

I was speechless at first after taking a bite of their date square! I haven’t had many things this good in my life, it had me debating if I should stop eating healthy lol. The crumb top and bottom layer was the complete opposite of dry, it was buttery and creamy. The middle date layer, which I assume medjool dates were used, tasted like gooey caramel and it was so soft to the bite. Unbelievable dessert and the staff was young and very friendly.

I never leave Jean Talon without one of their maple pies (which conveniently come in a range of sizes) or a carré à l’érable.

This tiny little bakery in Jean Talon Market makes a wonderfully delicious caramel cookie. The women behind the counter were very friendly too. Worth a visit.

Had these two to go, it could be much better if the cheese cake square have stronger cheese taste. Personally I don’t like white chocolate, but my bf said their raspberry & white chocolate cookies are really good.

Came here and got the pork and beef tortierre & pets-de-soeur, and were super pleased by both. The pets-de-soeur were some of the best pastry I've ever had, and only $0.80 each!! Highly recommend this place and will be coming here first thing next time I'm in Montreal! ❤️❤️
