Tucson, Arizona’s Best New Restaurants Right Now | Eater Phoenix

"Frida Kahlo, wearing a vibrant flower headdress, stares stoically in a mural as the centerpiece of La Frida’s warm, wooden interior. Las Condenadas features habanero-marinated flanken beef ribs atop guacamole, alongside two quesadillas and charred scallions." - Jackie Tran

This was our first time visiting Frida as we were visiting from California. Immediately when we walked in the aesthetic and ambiance was unique to its name. The wait was about 45-1hr but understandable due to weekend and holiday season. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our waiter Maribel was so nice and really made sure to explain the menu items, answer our questions and take time to get to know a little about us. The food was very good and good portions. Definitely recommend the chicharron and corn appetizers. We were celebrating myself and siblings birthday and OH MY WOW was the presentation on the dessert!!! I appreciate everything this place had to offer and recommend to others. Thank you Maribel for everything, Muchisimas Gracias Maribel por todo!!

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday on 11/16 and we had the loveliest time. The food was so complex, yet authentic. The price point was great for the quality and the amount of food we got. The sauces were amazing, and the fact that the complimentary tortilla chips came with five different unique dips is an example of how this places set the bar high in even the smallest ways. We enjoyed how the ambience was elevated- not a casual joint, and not fine dining, something in between- cute and lively. The cocktails were fun and unique. Everything had a lovely presentation. We enjoyed the service- Sam was amazing! It was a delight to be asked if we were celebrating an occasion during the opening greeting from Sam, and then later feel seen and celebrated with the complimentary birthday dessert, which exceeded all expectations. Top notch service. The only somewhat negative: No reservations are accepted. Luckily for us, we got to sit immediately around 7:30 on a Sunday night. There aren’t a ton of nearby bars or places to hang out at for the duration of a potentially long wait time, especially if you were to uber there like we did. However, that’s a small thing, and we loved the experience so much that it didn’t really matter, just throwing it out there to let other potential diners know. :) We will drive from Tempe to Tucson to enjoy again soon! Thank you!

Truly amazing! This was our first time here. The flavor of the food was so good but the little touches is what truly made it. From the different sauces offered at the beginning to the presentation of the dishes, everything was truly was amazing. We definitely will be back and a huge shout out to our server, Caro for making us feel so welcome and giving the intel on breakfast!

This was a highlight of our Tucson visit. Absolutely the most amazing food - and consider yourself lucky if Emily is your server. She is hands down the sweetest and most knowledgeable server. La Frida is also lucky to have her! This restaurant is a MUST if you’re visiting Tucson.

I had no idea Mexican food could be this amazing until I came here! We were from out of town for a softball tournament, and my daughter wanted tacos. After a quick search for “Mexican food near me” we came upon this place, and I’m so glad we did. Everything was top-notch and first-rate. The owner brought out a salsa sample plate while we were waiting, we were treated to a free sample of elóte, the jamaica-flavored lemonade was the best my daughter has ever had, and the food… I’m still in awe. I had the chicken flautas, my daughter had the carne asada tacos, and I’m still thinking about them. Don’t be put off by the prices; if you’re looking for cheap, find the nearest taco truck. If you’re looking for likely the best quality you’ve ever had, go here. Full stop. Our server Andrea was the epitome of friendliness, politeness and professionalism, and was an excellent ambassador to the overall excellence of the place. 5/5, will come again, my wife is literally jealous.

I recently dined at this Mexican gourmet restaurant, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish! The flavors were absolutely outstanding — every dish was rich, authentic, and beautifully presented. You can truly taste the quality and passion in every bite. The atmosphere was warm and elegant, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. From the fresh salsas to the perfectly seasoned main dishes, everything was top-notch. Definitely one of the best Mexican dining experiences I’ve had — highly recommend for anyone who loves bold, authentic flavors with a gourmet touch! 🌮✨

Love that they start with a sample of the main sauces used in the dishes so you have an idea of what you will be getting. Everything from the queso blanco to the cocktails were authentic and Capital delicious! Also, shout out to Edgordo-excellent service and recommendations-chefs kiss. Definite repeat!

This meal starts out great with salsa blanca with chips. Then we were given a sampler of the sauces to taste before ordering. We both selected dishes with the mole sauce. I also really enjoyed the salsa verde that was on the sampler plate. Service was excellent (Cora) and the atmosphere was nice too. Restaurant was clean with nice decor. Definitely on my go to list when in Tucson.
