Where To Eat When You Want To Feel Incredibly Cultured

"La Fromagerie. La. Fromagerie. Say it out loud. “Last night? Oh, I just got dinner at La Fromagerie with Celeste. Of Daphne and Celeste fame, yes”. Is that not the most cultured sentence you’ve ever heard in your life? Translated from French it just means: the cheese shop. But La Fromagerie is a classy, almost clandestine-feeling wine bar in Marylebone, full of booze and charcuterie, gossiping and smelly stuff. The cheese shop, on the other hand, sounds like somewhere a lowly medieval peasant eats a fistful of cheddar." - rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing

Where To Go For A Third Date In London

"Cheese, we would like to thank you for your eternal support during hangovers, your exceptional ability to turn bread into a meal, and for providing endless flirtatious dining in the form of fondue. A third date power move for the ages, we have often presumed that fondue can only be present on the dates of Formula 1 drivers, advanced skiers, and people who really know their way around Aspen. Alas, no. Hear our battle cry that you too can utilise melted gooey dairy goodness in the name of ‘intimacy’ at La Fromagerie. There are a couple of these Provencal-feel cheese shops dotted around London, but the Bloomsbury location is our favourite for a candlelit basement space that’s perfect for making your way through their own-brand roc red. It’s excellent." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak

La Fromagerie - Review - Bloomsbury - London - The Infatuation

"There are a few La Fromageries dotted around London, but our favourite is this one in Bloomsbury. You’ll walk in to find a scene from a quaint French film and be incredibly soothed by the charm of the little front deli. Your overdraft on the otherhand will enter a panic spiral that you’re about to drop £80 on comté, gruyère, and several bottles of pinot noir. We suggest you do what you’ve always done before and don’t listen to your overdraft. Buy the cheese. That being said, once you make it past the cheese thirst-trap entrance you’ll find a moody sophisticated two-floor wine bar that’s perfect for whispering sweet nothings over a bottle of excellent wine. We’re lowkey obsessed with their own-brand red roc house wine for its easy-drinking meets affordability factor. A round of charcuterie and their 10/10 raclette won’t hurt either." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

A very nice surprise! I've passed by so many times by this little cute street and seen "La Fromagerie" but never stopped. The Cured Meats were delicious, I'm very fussy when it comes to food, and this exceeded my expectations. It was top notch quality! Everything we ordered was wonderful, the speck, the fennel salame and San giovese, amazing! The Marinated Sardines with salsa Verde were also a standout. Loved the sourdough bread they offered from Little Pedlar, one of my favourite bakeries in London. The wine was also really good. Not the cheapest but worth the experience! Also, very romantic, as this street has cute lights and it was very enjoyable dining outside, felt more like being in a European city, somewhere in Amsterdam or Paris.

Such a wonderful dining experience. The staff are lovely and attentive. The music was played at a quiet level. The temperature indoors was good and the tables were spaced evenly. It was a lovely experience. The decor is very tasteful. The table candles created a romantic atmosphere. The dish portions were generous and beautifully presented. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone who comes to london. Thank you for such a wonderful evening. The meal is reasonably priced too.

Nice ship to grab groceries In the neighborhood a place to get high quality produce, cheese, and other fine groceries. The staff are wonderful and they keep the menu fresh, while keeping the essentials great. Great sidewalk setup as well.

The ambience was amazing and the fondue’s cheese was a bit strange (maybe to my palate)— would have been great with different cheese options! The wine was delicious. I enjoyed the charcuterie and my friend liked the broccoli with fondue. Everyone working there was kind and helpful, and there’s a cheese shop in the front. The cakes look good— will be back for cake and coffee.

We came to La Fromagerie on Valentine's day for dinner, we had booked online a month before. We were taken to be seated downstairs as the upstairs was full, and we were placed towards the back of the basement. We were asked if we wanted water, and we asked for tap. Our reservation was for 6pm. Around 6:15pm, another couple were bought downstairs and seated near the stairs and asked if they wanted water which they did. Around 6:20pm, someone came down to hand them water. 20 minutes we had been waiting for someone to come and serve us, so eventually I had to get up and tell a member of staff that we were waiting for water still. Someone came with the water a few minutes later and took our drink orders. The drinks turned up another 15 minutes later and our food order was finally taken. It took a full 40 minutes for us to get our first drink and someone to take our food order. We were actually looking on our phones for somewhere else to eat when our drink finally turned up because 40 minutes to hand over a drink and take someone's order is FAR too long and we had given up waiting. I ordered the espresso martini which was very small and for £14.50, I expected a bit more. The drink was around 1 or 2 mouthfuls so I literally had to sip it to try and make it last. The drink definitely wasn't value for money and to date is the smallest espresso martini I've ever received in a restaurant or bar. Whilst we were waiting for our food, another few couples turned up and were seated downstairs, and we were offered drinks/water more often after that so it was clear that in the beginning we were forgotten about. The food arrived quickly. The cheese soufflé was amazing and probably one of the nicest things we had ever eaten. The side of potatoes was great too. However, we ordered the valentine's special, the Baron Bigod "I love you" which was supposed to come with bread. It arrived with no bread, which you can see in the picture I uploaded. We waited around for someone to come by so we could say something, but they didn't so we gave up and ate it as is. We used the side of potatoes we ordered to dip in the cheese. Although nice, I think it was around £23/£24? for the cheese and bread and we never got the bread... So I thought it was VERY expensive for what we got. Lastly, we had ordered a cheese board. I actually thought £18.50 was a reasonable price for the board itself. We had a little stack of crackers and some apple (although personally I think a little more apple would of been nice) but still a good selection. We had ordered a bread side along with the cheese board which was nice. Despite the price though, I was really disappointed in the taste of the cheeses. Once again we had ordered the valentine's cheese board, but literally every cheese on the board tasted like mould. The small brie type cheeses were the worst, they were so strong they actually tasted like blue cheese. The blue cheese itself on the board was super strong (I don't like blue cheese but my husband loves it and he said it was too strong and very intense) there was also a hard cheese on the board and after eating down to the rind, I found it also tasted of mould and upon looking, there was green mould on the rind of the cheese. Not sure if that was supposed to be mouldy but we didn't enjoy it and we left the rest of it. We came mainly for the cheese board so having 5 cheeses all taste exactly the same, like mould, was really disappointing. We originally planned to stay for dessert but at this point we changed our minds and decided to go elsewhere for that. All in all we were very disappointed in our visit to La Fromagerie. We live really far away and had travelled just over 2 hours to visit this restaurant, another 2 hours back home, and we both left feeling rather like it was a wasted journey. Based on our experience, we won't be visiting again or recommending to anyone else.

All round great experience we popped in for a pre-dinner snack and a drink. Negroni and Aperol spritz were the stars of the show, and the charcuterie board we ordered was delicious
