This place, as in the physical location, brings back so many memories of my college days... when it was El Matador and Carey's... so when it initially evolved into La Fuente, I was not a fan simply because of the change.
Now, many years have passed and I just recently revisited. While I long for the simplicity of the early/mid 00's, I decided that La Fuente is a-okay in my book!
We came on a Friday, early evening and it wasn't too busy. Most people were seated on the nice patio. Each table has a big umbrella to provide some shade from the summer sun. We were seated within a minute or two of our arrival.
We were served chips and salsa almost immediately after being seated. I liked the salsa! It wasn't anything exceptional but I prefer the more blended salsa over chunky. Chips were decent, again not like "woah!" but decent, standard tortilla chip.
We ordered a pitcher or house margaritas on the rocks and it came out quickly. It was so good on this warm, but not too hot, summer day.
I decided to order something totally different than the standard burrito or enchilada... the Plate Lunch with chunky beef (mechata, I believe). It was served with rice, beans, the typical garnish (lettuce, tomatoes), and flour tortillas. Basically, build your own taco or mix it together for a tortilla-less taco. This was a good decision, the beef was so good! And it was a large portion - I would definitely order this again.
My husband ordered the Papi Poppers, which are a spin on Jalapeño Poppers - deep fried jalapeño halves with chicken, avocado, and cheese. Muy bein! There were so many, he had it as a meal. I tried one and it was delicious - a little zip but not too much. Like a 1.5 out of 5.
My friend ordered a chicken quesadilla, which came with guacamole and sour cream. She said it was amazing!
Service was fantastic - our server introduced himself right away and checked on us several times. He made sure our chips and salsa was refilled and even gave me a "doggy bag" to take home the chips we did not eat for my pup ;) (I said they were for Roxy lol). We did take some leftover home, but not much as we were "grazing" for a period of time. They did get busier but did not rush us out - it was fantastic as it was my husband and my 4 yr anniversary, so it was like a fun little party.
Parking can be a bit stressful as the lot is small. There is parking down the street and across Bluemound (at your own risk during rush hour).
Overall, great service, great food, good times!! :D
