Exceptional Afternoon Tea Spots in Paris and Versailles

"Teatime in La Galerie of this famous luxury hotel on Avenue Montaigne is something to experience at least once in your life, whether you're a Parisian or just passing through; cakes and savoury delicacies are served in a truly sublime setting. The hardest part is choosing between the famous Croque-Plaza and the club sandwich, and the array of pastries on offer. There are three afternoon tea options: 'Le Goûter du Plaza Athénée', 'Le Goûter d'Angelo Musa' and 'Le Goûter de La Galerie', priced from €74." - Guide MICHELIN

The service was incredibly attentive — the gentleman who served us explained the menu with such clarity and warmth, making everything feel effortless. All the staff were genuinely welcoming and the atmosphere was elegantly refined without feeling overwhelming. A truly beautiful place to enjoy.

I came to the Galerie with a couple of friends for an afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday. We took the "Goûter d’Angelo Musa". Pastry was really good - refined, not too sweet and felt light. Amosphere was charming - sound of the harp playing and a view on the terrasse. Service was excellent - waiters being very polite, respectful and welcoming. I definitely recommend this place and would certaintly come back for another visit.

I’ve visited La Galerie at Hôtel Plaza Athénée many times over the years, and while the hotel itself remains stunning — with its iconic exterior and beautiful lobby — my most recent visits have left me surprisingly underwhelmed. The space of La Galerie is still relatively pretty, but the lighting felt somewhat sad, and the furniture seemed tired. During my last visits, with only a few customers present, staff were almost completely absent. My friend and I waited nearly half an hour before anyone acknowledged us. When they finally did, the service felt absent-minded and unprofessional — not unpleasant, but as if the staff had no formal training. It felt more like being served at a casual French café than at a top-tier luxury venue. Drinks themselves were fine but unremarkable. Attempts to request additional service took an age, with staff occasionally passing by indifferently. To make matters worse, an hour before official closing, another staff member placed the bill on our table without asking, holding the card reader awkwardly. When asked, the explanation was that “payments close earlier than the bar,” a policy handled with neither elegance nor courtesy. Comparisons to other Parisian palaces are unavoidable — at the Ritz, Crillon, Peninsula, or George V, even late-night visits are met with attentive, charming service. This experience felt disconnected from the standards expected of a Dorchester Collection property. I will always love the hotel for its style, heritage, and location, but La Galerie urgently needs to improve its service standards to match the iconic setting and compete with the nearby top-tier luxury venues.

Wonderful food in an opulent atmosphere. The McCarthy salad was so delicious. Rose champagne a wonderful pairing. The side servers and hostess were very polite. The server was arrogant and really seemed bothered to be serving. Oh well, still a wonderful experience.

I visited Le Galerie for an afternoon tea experience of chef Angelo Musa. I must say, the patisserie was probably the best of my life. We were quite disappointed by the service though, which is definitely not at the level of the kitchen: we had to ask multiple times to bring us champagne before getting it, there was a chewing gum underneath my table (yes, I couldn't believe it, like your high school desk), they were insisting speaking french with us, my knife was dripping water from a hole (I guess from the dishwasher). The hotel is obviously luxurious and nice but le Galerie is basically just a corridor next to the hotel hall. It is crowded with people crossing it, noisy and with little privacy. A person was playing the arp for our amusement, but the overall feeling was slightly of suffocation. The restaurant in the courtyard looks much more relaxing, with fresh air and boucolic surroundings of trees and flowers.

Please note: this review is only for the afternoon tea service. My wife and I have been three times, two for anniversaries and as everything’s excellent, this will mostly be tips and recommendations. First, while not strictly required, I recommend you make a phone reservation, even same day, but not on-line as they charge a fee of $50 per person if you miss it. Next, the space is beautiful, with a view of the courtyard and harp music playing. The service is usually excellent from the doormen to the host/hostess to the server. We were lucky enough to have Tristan as our server who was very attentive, had a great sense of humor, and even spruced up our tray after we told him it was our anniversary. But Tristan and our hostess weren’t the only highlights. One gentleman dropped by as I struggled with refilling my hot chocolate and rescued me from further embarrassment. Next, the food. First, know that there are formulas and à la carte options, so if you only want a drink and a pastry, you can do that. Be warned, though, that they say “pastry selection,” but it’s not several pastries. You pick one from the cart. Our first time, I picked the hot chocolate and the orange pastry. No joke, the chocolate is among the best in the city and the orange pastry was among the best I’ve ever had. The most recent time, I picked the formula that only included the drink of choice and the pastries (as opposed to champagne and a sandwich). For that one, you can pick hot chocolate or any of the many teas, and you get a selection of seven pastries. I won’t describe all of those, but the ones I loved had very subtle, delicate flavors, and even the ones I didn’t were still very good. Finally, the price. Not gonna lie, it ain’t cheap. My formula was €64, which we shared, and her à la carte tea was €17. But it was worth every penny (euro equivalent).

Amazing experience thanks to our host ( I wish I have asked her name ) she made this experience quite unique for my nephew and niece . We had the afternoon tea with the croque : it comes with 6 beautiful pastries and a croque . I didn’t expect it to be chicken with truffle , the service was really 5 stars ! Thanks to the amazing team for this unforgettable experience , totally worth the price

My grading is primarily representative of the food quality. This is the fourth time I had tea time at la Galerie and I am a great admirer of Angelo Musa's work. However, this time, I was highly disappointed by the gouter du plaza Athénée. The sandwiches were boring. In terms of cakes/desserts , 2 out of 5 were boring. Particularly the kind of old mushy bread filled with some fruit preserve, the apricot tartlet which was too sour, and the millefeuille which was tasteless. Considering the overall price (95 euros) , its not worth it. In addition, I found the staff was spending a little too much time chatting...

Yelp
Tour de France time here in Paris turned to "Tour de LAME!" Maybe my favorite hang in Paris is now ruined. RUINED! Is Chef Jean Imbert ruining this too?!? This is the lobby of The Hotel Plaza Athenee hotel. Great for people watching and fine delicacies ... now Just a mess. A 50 Euro Croque Plaza sandwich . Sounds pricey? It is! But it's also been the best sandwich in Paris for over 20 years. A truffled cheese and chicken sandwich now laid waste. I've had it many times. Maybe 50 or more times. Did Chef Imbert "reimagine" it? Are they going for a rustic disheveled monstrosity? My twin lovelies had the lobster club and loved it. My soulmate "The Chosen One" dined on a local Reblochon cheese plate. Wonderful. French cheese is ALWAYS a gift and not pasteurized and ruined like our government (in America) demands by law. My fellow Americans - you have not had cheese until you've had it in France. Anyway, after a mind-boggling and rude wait of 95 minutes (95 minutes!!!) we left. I had no lunch. Just a gift of time theft. The hostess apologized on the way out adding ,"I don't know what's going on in the kitchen today. It's just awful." I concur.

Yelp
I went to this place with high expectations about its quality. I had to wait around 30 minutes in order to get a table. The chocolate was very good, and the desserts not bad (I believe one can get better ones for this prices); but they were aesthetically beautiful and very good tasting, anyways. When I payed and went to the lobby, I realized that my umbrella had been stolen. My Alexander McQueen umbrella. I informed the receptionist and she called the "attached director". She couldn't give me a solution, and she gave me the hotel's typical umbrella. She took note of my mail because she assured me that she was going to watch the recordings of the cameras. That was about four days ago and I still have no news about her. That is just unacceptable for a five stars "grand luxe" hotel. Five guys on the door than can't take care of your umbrella, and no one offers you to put your thing in the wardrobe. Unbelievable. Very disappointed and sad...

Yelp
Expensive but chic spot for a drink or dessert. Great to watch people from all over the world. Attentive service.

Yelp
Amazing dessert cart with tons of options from chocolaty to fruity choices. They do give priority to hotel guests but if you get lucky and go on a slow season, you will get seated promptly as we did. Great service and amazing atmosphere but not the place to go if you are unwilling to spend a lot more than usual for a plate of dessert and tea/coffee. Other than that, great place to people watch (what the Parisians have excelled in).
