Please note: this review is only for the afternoon tea service.
My wife and I have been three times, two for anniversaries and as everything’s excellent, this will mostly be tips and recommendations.
First, while not strictly required, I recommend you make a phone reservation, even same day, but not on-line as they charge a fee of $50 per person if you miss it.
Next, the space is beautiful, with a view of the courtyard and harp music playing.
The service is usually excellent from the doormen to the host/hostess to the server. We were lucky enough to have Tristan as our server who was very attentive, had a great sense of humor, and even spruced up our tray after we told him it was our anniversary.
But Tristan and our hostess weren’t the only highlights. One gentleman dropped by as I struggled with refilling my hot chocolate and rescued me from further embarrassment.
Next, the food. First, know that there are formulas and à la carte options, so if you only want a drink and a pastry, you can do that. Be warned, though, that they say “pastry selection,” but it’s not several pastries. You pick one from the cart.
Our first time, I picked the hot chocolate and the orange pastry. No joke, the chocolate is among the best in the city and the orange pastry was among the best I’ve ever had.
The most recent time, I picked the formula that only included the drink of choice and the pastries (as opposed to champagne and a sandwich). For that one, you can pick hot chocolate or any of the many teas, and you get a selection of seven pastries. I won’t describe all of those, but the ones I loved had very subtle, delicate flavors, and even the ones I didn’t were still very good.
Finally, the price. Not gonna lie, it ain’t cheap. My formula was €64, which we shared, and her à la carte tea was €17. But it was worth every penny (euro equivalent).
