On the Grid : La Boulangerie Lopez

"Half bakery, half table service cafe; there's more here than you'd expect. It makes for a cozy breakfast spot. And because they have something for everyone, it's one of our go-to delivery options. Smoothies and empanadas are my favorite odd pairing." - Jason Powers

I came here to buy my boyfriend's tres leches carmel birthday cake and it did not disappoint. Great service and one of the best tres leches cakes I've had in a while especially. In the bakery, they display more popular cakes to purchase in small, medium or large sizes. They also have reasonably priced party packages with empanadas & pastilles which I want to try for a future party. You can also order cakes for pickup via UberEats.

Google
I cannot thank La Gran Via Bakery enough for their exceptional service and consistently outstanding custom cakes over the past decade. Roy, Betsy, and the entire team are true artists who put their heart and soul into every cake, making each celebration extra special. For my baby shower on 11/10/24, they went above and beyond with a beautiful, custom-designed cake that was both visually stunning and delicious. Every detail was executed perfectly, and it was exactly what I had envisioned — if not better. Their dedication to quality, creativity, and customer satisfaction shines through every time, which is why I’ve trusted them for over ten years. Thank you, Roy, Betsy, and the team at La Gran Via Bakery, for making every occasion memorable and for always delivering more than expected. If you’re in Brooklyn and need a custom cake that wows both in taste and presentation, look no further. La Gran Via Bakery is simply the best!

Google
Had an amazing experience with this bakery. They made a this stitch cake I requested for a friends bday and they did an amazing job. It was a cannoli cake and not only did it look amazing, it taste amazing.

Betsy and the staff at La Gran Via bakery are amazing at what they do! They will replicate any picture you send them. I’ve ordered cakes from them for years, traveling from far to do so. Their cakes are amazing and their prices are reasonable!

Google
Ordered a tres leches cake for a birthday party and it was absolutely delicious! The cake was moist without being drowned in cream and it came with a soft dulce filling. The icing was very soft and the cake held up well for a few days in the fridge since I couldn’t resist taking leftovers. La Gran Via has been a neighborhood staple for a while and always recommend it. On a separate note, I find it a little odd that after a certain time at night, if you go to the bakery, you have to order through an intercom and make the food/money exchange through a slot. I assume this has to do with crime they’ve experienced but this is the only place that does it from what I can tell. I guess just something to be aware of if you plan on going for a late night snack.

Google
I have been getting my cakes from La Gran Via since my son turned one, he just turned 13 and still come from Westchester to Brooklyn to get my cakes. Anything your imagination comes up with they will do and if sometimes it’s not possible the way you want it, they come up with creative ways to give you the cake of your dreams. Not only are the cakes aesthetically pleasing, they are DELICIOUS!! I always get tres leche with guava filling and sometimes, when I am feeling extra indulgent, I get dulce de leche as well. I will never stop going to La Gran Via, they have been a part of all of our special celebrations.

Google
As for pastries, the place is good. The only issue was food. We ordered tacos, the tortillas were pretty bad, they were extremely hard. We ordered tortas aswell, the milanesa de pollo wasn't even milanesa de pollo, it was chicken nuggets. CHICKEN NUGGETS! The fries didn't have season and seemed overfried. Overall not a pleasant experience.

Yelp
Zero stars for today's customer service. I called at 10:30 am and was put on u less hold( hung up after 10 minute because the train came) because she only spoke Spanish. Called again at 11: 15am and was once again out on unless hold. Hung up afrer 15 minutes. Pineapple Coconut is Biscocho con Pina y Coco correct? Is Roy still managing there because she said No when I asked for him. Maybe someone can message me If they see this. I have placed orders and even the party packages in the past and really need this cake for 6/4/2024. Do you make Pineapple Coconut cakes??

Yelp
The cake to the left is the inspo photo of the cake .. even tho I think the cake looks nice however I feel like I was over charged for this cake a 127 dollar cake with cracks in it they even spelled the name wrong when I placed this order I wrote down the name and they still managed to spell it incorrectly don't think the cake was worth the price not going back !! And to top it off the top of the cake was dry and the bottom moist and they only added strawberries on the top not through the whole cake very disappointing for the price I paid could of went to a home baker for a better price and product! Anyone reading take your money elsewhere not to mention how the ladies look at you when you go in there like they have never seen a light skin Latina woman !! Very disappointing for the price I paid !!

Yelp
I ordered my kids birthday cakes from this amazing establishment that has been a part of family for 3 generations. The best Tres-Leche cake and pastries in BROOKLYN, as a matter of fact in the Tri-STATE Area! if you are looking for amazing customer service, Delicious Cakes, and Perfected Designs than look no further, La Gran Via Bakery is your one stop shop! I recommend this place to anyone. The icing on the cake was placing my cake order with the owner (Betsy) whom is a delight and executed my vision beyond what I asked for. I recently moved back to NY and am ecstatic that I will be continuing to order all of my cakes for whatever Event for the generations to come! pS did I mention it's the only place they have FRESH Baked BREAD... Tell them Nicole Sent you

Yelp
Food is good enough. Workers don't speak English so good luck actually on them figuring out ur order. Every time I order in English I find myself looking over there shoulder to make sure they get my order right cause whenver u do order in English they bring u whatever they hear nd dont ask u to repeat urself. Wish they would take there time Nd try not to rush through the orders so I don't have to make sure they are making the right thing every time I order. I feel like I order at least 3 times a visit at this place. Original order second time cause they can't hear or understand me 3 rd time making sure they are making the right thing once they are making it. Over all go at ur own risk.

Yelp
It's really 3.5 stars. I've ordered about 5-6 cakes from here. I usually go to a Dominican bakery for my special event cakes but I was trying to find a new spot that was just as good or better to switch things up every now and then. I initially kept ordering tres leches cakes from here because that seemed popular but my guests were always complaining about the taste. I didn't want to give up on this place because the reviews were so good, but I couldn't figure out why my guests never cared for the cake from here. Until I realized my family just does not like tres leche lol. Once I figured out what cake to order (homestyle with dulce de leche filling), I was sold. Now of course taste is subjective but here's my honest opinion about these experiences. Pros: Convenience/Availability: this restaurant used to be open 24/7 (precovid), now they're open 12h a day, and they have a website to order and pay for your cakes minimum 48h before pickup. It is extremely convenient and one of the main reasons I found this bakery because I needed a last minute custom cake and every other bakery needed more than 2 days notice. The online process is really easy and reliable. Specialty stock cakes: they have a lot of pretty and beautifully decorated stock cakes that you can pick up for super last minute events. Price: reasonable prices for stock cakes. Cons: Tres leches: Now I don't know what it's "supposed" to taste like but it's usually just wet and flavorless, the times I've ordered without tres leche, the cakes tasted much better and the people loved it. Decor: I find the decor of the custom cakes to be a bit underwhelming Extra prices: It's an extra $15 for dulce de leche filling on the cakes and also extra for dominican cake (VS regular homestyle or vanilla cake) which makes it a bit more pricey than my regular Dominican bakery for a similar cake. The dulce de leche filling is so worth it though.

Yelp
This place is the best. I never drink coffee one day I was blessed with a shot of espresso as a kind gesture now I'm hooked lol. They friendly service and warm welcome is enough to keep coming back. The food is always good. But their mini cakes are my favorite. Check this place out.

Yelp
I decided to order from La Gran Via again because my husband loved the mini pastelitos. I also ordered the Coconete, which I have never had and I think it might be my new favorite!!! It is hard to describe what it tastes like...it is like a combination of muffin and cookie...with coconut and maybe cinnamon ...it is just delicious... I also ordered the Tornillos Caracoles, it is a lovely pastry with a delicious pastry cream, enjoyed that too. I also tried the chicken empanada...wow it was so flavorful and definately not skimpy. Glad I gave them a second chance.

Yelp
A neighborhood institution. Excellent desserts and coffee. Just a block from the park, always worth stopping in

Yelp
The cake was amazing. I went in person to order it and it was ready by the time they told me. The cake was fresh and amazing. Thank you so much.

Marie G.

Yelp
Ordered the cheesecake and 3 leches. The cheesecake smelled and tasted like chemicals, that's the only way I can describe it. The 3 leches is truly a joke, doesn't taste good at all. Don't bother, this place has gone down in quality tremendously over the years with food and desserts.

Jocelyn J.

Yelp
Tres leches/Cuatro leches cake always hits! The ladies behind the counter are kind and always ready to answer any questions, which is great if you have any allergy concerns.

Yelp
Things are back to normal at this location. The last cake I ordered for a baptism was delicious, moist and the guava filling was finger licking good. I didn't care for the vanilla filling. I placed the order online and then spoke to Roy over the phone. I ordered it plain and decorated the cake myself.
google avatar

Kisha V.

Yelp
Delicious fresh cakes and bakery goods. Great service. This location has been open for many many years and serves the best cakes for any events.

Yelp
Cuban sandwich was salty fries had way to much salt other than that the pastries are awesome that's why I gave them 4 stars if the Cuban amd fries wouldn't have been so salty I'll would've gave them 5 stars

Yelp
You ever heard of cinco leches? It's a first for me, I only know tres leches. So when my coworkers told me about cinco leches I had to make a trip to La Gran Via Bakery. As I went in, empanadas and Cuban sandwich seems to be highly recommended and advertised around the bakery. Sadly they were all sold out of empanadas on a Friday night, but I didn't was able to order the Cuban sandwiches. The Cuban sandwich was delicious. Then the highlight of my dinner was cinco leches. I was a bit confused with the 5 layers, tasted condensed milk, rice pudding, regular milk, but couldn't see to figure out the other 2 layers. One layer tasted like coconut milk but I'm not 100% sure. Perhaps you all can help me with figuring that out.

Yelp
I would give this place 4.5 stars. I came here on a Wednesday morning to try out their baked goods since I've passed by this Colombian bakery many times. I ordered a Colombian ham and cheese bun, a slice of cinco leches (5 milk) cake, a beef empanada, and a pernil (pork) empanada. I enjoyed the Colombian ham and cheese bun and cinco leches cake the most. The ham and cheese bun was large and the large piece of cheese inside was delicious. The cinco leches cake was fresh and surprisingly not too sweet. The empanadas were okay. The empanadas were fried to order so it was hot. The pernil empanada was too salty. The beef empanada was better and pretty flavorful. The prices were decent. The staff were very friendly and fast. I would definitely come back for the bun and their leches cake slices.

Yelp
I placed an order for my fathers return home after spending several years over seas. I have ordered from this bakery in the past and loved the product but this time around I was very disappointed. I provided an inspiration photo and received a product that was NOTHING like what I asked for. I received a really ugly cake and I contacted the bakery to let them know there was an issue with my order. I waited a couple of days to see if the owner would respond but he didn't. I will say that despite the appearance the cake was very tasty but not worth the price ($90) to not get the cake I paid for.
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
Can't comment on the quality, but incredibly rude stuff!!! During my last trip, I asked the ingredient of one item, and the lady at the counter said "It is a cake". I re-phrased the question, and she said "what do you think are the ingredients of a cake?" Needless to say that we left without buying.

Yelp
My sister decided to have a birthday party less then two weeks during the start of the holiday rush. I spent days trying to find a bakery to create a cake in such a short time frame. Needless to say, day of her party I was still cake-less and mulling over alrernatives: should I run to BJ's and pick up a random sheet cake or try to bake one my self (heaven forbid.) Luckily I came across this bakery on Yelp and found that they had a variety of cakes ready for purchase. I made a call to ask and Betsy answered, after a brief account of my troubles she told me they could make a cake for me in a matter of house same day and how to order it from their website. Their Brooklyn location can whip up a cake pretty quick dependent on the level of detail and their schedule. I was in even more luck and ordered their meringue peony double tier cake, home made style. They certainly delivered on schedule. Only draw back was the cake color. I wanted pink icing-how ever that was my error. In descriptions it lists that the cake is only available in white and color choices are only for the gum paste floral on top and any writing added. Never-the-less, the cake was huge (50-60) people and although basic in appearance it was delicious. I've purchased cakes in the $100's that did not taste as good although they were attractive. I wanted my guests to enjoy eating cake again and they loved it! Even though the cake did not survive the journey home after pickup (top tier came apart and slide) I managed to push it back and cover the damage with pink florals :) Thank you Betsy, I still love you and you were a life saver. I certainly reccomend this bakery!

Yelp
My friends ordered a custom cake from them because they can do photo cakes for a fraction of the price. Super high quality images. Oh, and the cake is perfectly fine as well. They go heavy on frosting though.

Yelp
Wow... so so disappointed here. The chicken and cheese empanada was good, taste wise, however the cheese inside was not even melted. I also ordered the Media Noche, which I am still regretting even eating the couple of bites that I did. First, the first 2 bites I took contained HARD, large pieces of what I can only imagine were fat (at least I hope that's what it was). And second, the overall taste of the sandwich was just not good at all. Growing up Cuban, one of my favorite sandwiches was the media noche and I was super excited to find a local spot that had it, but this one just missed on every account. However, the worst part of the entire order was the coffee... I have never in my life had a coffee so disgusting. I ordered a cafe con leche, but the smell that was coming from it, and the taste, was of pure chemicals. I tried putting so much sugar in to it to see if it would make it at least drinkable, but nothing could save it. I should've been more cautious of the bad reviews here and skipped out on wasting $40 at this spot.
google avatar

Anne B.

Yelp
I've bought cakes from here multiple times. The tres leches is delicious and they have great prices.

Rocio P.

Yelp
I was honestly really disappointed not only did I receive something that was completely different from what I had ordered they clearly told me that they were confident on making the exact cake for me ! You can clearly see that the cake looks nothing like the picture I had given them ! The Elephant looks more like a pig or unknown creature ! I paid $222 for this cake I could've clearly gotten something better off of carvel. Not only that, but the cake was extremely dry. Sincerely a disappointment Customer...

Yelp
I come here way too much. They're open 24/7, and it's too easy to access. Seriously though, if you're jonsing for sweet delicious goodies, they have you covered. There's something for everyone. My favs are the tres leches and flan. Not to be outdone by a quatro and cinco leches! They have their own unique desserts, one such is the lolly sundae- it's a riff on tres leches and it's sweet and almost too much, in a good way of course. Cupcakes, cakes, cheesecake, pastries, cookies are also available. Their plain dominican cake is the only thing that doesn't deliver for me, so if anyone has any recommendations for that, pls let me know! Breakfast and lunch items are also on their menus. FYI they are a Latin bakery, not specified as a Mexican bakery or other. One of the employees had mentioned to me the owners were Cuban. No matter, they're terrific.
google avatar

Chengcheng S.

Yelp
They did a really good job for the cake and it tastes great for the price we paid. Very impressed about the quality of the cake. The cupcakes and cookies we ordered looked good but didn't taste as good as how they look. Will def come back for the cake in the future. The pick up took us half an hour wait in the store though. We were in a rush so plan extra time if you are picking up on the day of. And not to mention their breakfast roll was pretty good too.
google avatar

Ga Hing C.

Yelp
This is my go to place when there is a birthday and we need a cake. I've ordered 6+ cakes from here and sometimes it was not necessarily for birthday ocassions but for cravings. The tres leches and cinco leches are the only ones I order and let me tell you that those cakes arw dangerous. You eat a piece and then suddenly you find yourself eating a second one. I highly recommend getting those two (tres leches or cinco leches).
google avatar

Bianca S.

Yelp
I used to love this place since I've been coming here since I was a kid. I even brought my husband and his family. I moved away and still come here because of the food, but the customer service has gone down the drain. The food is heading that same direction as well. I order my food in advance online and yet when I get there it's never ready. I came in and patiently waited. Since they constantly have new employees, some newbie they have there had an attitude immediately. Even after I showed her my receipt she gave me a hard time and didn't want to give me my food. I was going to buy some pastries as well, but after seeing how poorly handled they were I changed my mind. Sadly, this will most likely be the last time I go there.

Andy E.

Yelp
I don't live in the neighborhood but went here on the recommendation of a friend who lives around the corner. Products ( food, pastries, and especially the bread) are very good. i don't know what the difference is between the names (Pan sobao, pan de agua etc). I was looking for pan de manteca and found it here . Hope im using the correct term. Anyway, it is the very soft bread I found in Puerto Rico. EXCELLENT. USUALLY one can get the bread soft, and many times hot. They are basically take out but provide quite a number of choices. Prices very reasonable too.

Yelp
La Gran Via Bakery is my family's go-to for the best cake. Hands down. I've been patronizing this business for many years, and their service and quality does not disappoint. My favorite is the Tres Leches with fresh strawberries and pineapple. Dulce de Leche is also a family favorite. Whenever we order, we would have our order fulfilled within the same day. A few years back, my regular lunchtime order would be their Cuban sandwiches, but I needed to give that up because my waistline was getting too happy with it. I recently ordered a small birthday cake for my husband and the business owner Royd was so helpful! He had my order ready in a matter of hours, and took the extra step in delivering it outside since I was double-parked (the traffic police are vicious on 5th Ave). Royd and Betsy go above and beyond in their customer service, which is the reason why we continue to patronize this family business. Nothing beats their attention to detail, which is why La Gran Via remains a local business staple in Sunset Park. Give them a try! You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Karman L.

Yelp
What a great place to stop in sunset for something sweet. First off, they are open twenty four hours which means they are available anytime you need a sugar fix. I've never order a whole cake from them but I've tried a bunch of different things. The tres leche slice is as authentic as it can get. I also love their flan, it has the perfect balance of creaminess as well as excellent texture. I did try a dessert in a plastic cup, I believe it was the loly sundae...this was actually a little too sweet for me so I'll just stick with the basics. Also you can't go wrong with the rice pudding here! Definitely looking forward to come back soon.
google avatar

Patty L.

Yelp
I ordered a gender reveal cake from this place which I regretted so much Pineapple filling was very light not much, cake was dry, really awful, looked it beautiful from outside but such a dissapointment in the inside Guests didn't touch it, they ate a spoon & left the cake I threw it in the garbagewhat a waste of money ?175 This place called themselves Dominican but cake was far away from been Dominican I DO NOT RECOMMEND this so call bakery I ate their $12 flan was also a flop Older lady gas such a bad customer service, she's really nasty I don't know how she's still there
google avatar

Jake C.

Yelp
They make great stuff cheap Morir Sonyando Excellent espresso Excellent pernil tres leche open 24 hrs I love this place
google avatar

Aleksandra S.

Yelp
As long as you're prepared to be a little flexible, LGV will come through for you. They were able to create a beautiful cake for me with 24 hours' notice. To be fair, I waited an hour past the time I asked that it be ready, and the cake had a different batter than I requested (I asked for Dominican cake and they couldn't have it ready in time without swapping for homestyle). But it was really a lovely cake and I would definitely come again for a future celebration cake. Pro tip: stick with the classics - I asked for pineapple and buttercream filling: the pineapple was perfect, but the buttercream I would describe as serviceable. I'll stick with pineapple or guava in the future.

Yelp
A great bakery with amazing customer service. Recently went to order a cake for 30 and two dozen cupcakes. The staff was so friendly and helpful, was able to accommodate my needs without any hesitation, the tres leche princess themed cake came out delicious and looks great. The princes and superheroes themed cupcakes were amazing. Never a disappointment and they go above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction. Would definitely recommend this place, this is my 3rd time ordering from this bakery and not a single complaint. Will be back again for future needs.

Julia M.

Yelp
We got a 1/4 sheet cake for our sons' birthday this weekend, and it was delicious!! Many compliments all around. We got the home style cake with vanilla + chocolate fillings. Easy to order and pick up. Will definitely return for future cake needs!

Yelp
I struggled for a while finding a good bakery with great quality. My boyfriend recommended this bakery and said the cakes were amazing. I must say the service was fast, the people were nice, and management is always around helping out if you have any questions or concerns which is really impressive for a business. The first time I went, I ordered 2 Tres Leche with Strawberries Cake and it was amazing. It's perfect the cake is not extremely moist but perfectly moist. The second time around, I needed a cake for my nephews first birthday it was given to me as a task by my sister, it had to be a bubbles guppies cake to match the theme of his party. I didn't know where to go, so I went back to the same bakery and gave it a shot. I spoke with Roy who was very helpful and made me feel confident about my order. I must say I was extremely impressed with the cake and how beautiful it looked! It definitely was Bubble Guppies down to the core. I think I have definitely found a bakery that works well for me and provides excellent customer service.
google avatar

Ming T.

Yelp
I came here to buy a cake for my dad's bday. I bought the pineapple/vanilla custard cake. The cake here was not bad. I didn't like their meringue frosting. ..it was too sweet for me. Also, I wished the pineapple filing had chunks of pineapples. It was more like a pineapple gel, that comes from a bucket. I think I liked the slice of tres leches cake better. They have different types of tres leches cakes. The girl asked me what type I want and I was like, "err, the regular one???"
google avatar

Julianna C.

Yelp
Last minute cake request ... needed something for my son 6 month smash cake picture shoot and la gran via bakery was able to make it happen in 15 mins! Such great service , staff is very polite and friendly even with the high volume of customers. I normally just grab a bite here and there for breakfast because they have a big selection of breakfast food for affordable price or I'll pick up a yummy desert .. ( flan is a must and the rice pudding!)

Juliana M.

Yelp
Went today to get my breakfast. This lady was so helpful and so sweet. We got the combo for chicken fingers with fries and milanesa De poll. The chicken would of been good for a spicy chicken. My food was hot and the fries were good!
google avatar

Untouchable B.

Yelp
This guava pastry was so delicious and yummy. Baked go perfection and not to sweet. I ate half before I could take the picture lol. My cousin had the chocolate mousse I couldn't take a picture lol of hers but it was delicious as well. We stopped by at 2:30am

Yahaira H.

Yelp
I always loved coming in for food and pastries but it's always the same issue. they take too long to take my order and more time to make it and you'd think that all the time they're taking it's to make your order perfect, nope they always mess up my orders
google avatar

Whitney H.

Yelp
It's always bustling inside but I always get great service. Brought a pound of their cookies to a community meeting and it was met with a lot of fanfare. And recently ordered a breakfast sandwich for delivery. It was fast, delicious, & on Cuban bread. So delicious and a good bang for your buck.
google avatar

Walbania M.

Yelp
I've eaten from here for 10 years, but out of their cakes I've only had the Tres Leches, and it's been delicious. For my parents anniversary dinner we ordered a dominican pineapple cake. We were very disappointed, it was one of the worst "dominican" Cake we've ever had. Specially since my mom was a baker back in DR, we know what to expect. The cake was dry, very dry, not too far from cornbread. It didn't have pineapple filling, it had pineapple chunks!!! Needless to say no one ate the cake, besides the frosting which was the best thing on the cake!! I only recommend the tres leches, stay away from the "dominican" cake.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
I usually get the tres Leche and dulce de Leche, which are bomb here - the best. This time, we figured we'd try something new and got the carrot cake - one of my favourites. A good start for us was the nuts and raisins it contained, but the good qualities stopped there. The cake proved too much resistance for the teeth while the texture was too chunky. The flavours proved to be palatable, but the consistency of the cake brings this cake way down. We will not be coming back for the carrot cake but will definitely return for the usual tres Leche.
google avatar

Nerina G.

Yelp
From my 40th birthday cake, too my goddaughter Sweet Sixteen cake. I must say you have to get your cake from here. Awesome customer service, and you will get your money worth it...My family and I appreciate your services....Keep up the good work....

Yelp
I've been coming to this bakery for over 15 years and have always loved the food and service! Unfortunately, the service we had this morning was nothing to love. My parents and I ordered our breakfast and as I paid the bill, I realized that the employee by the name of Janet left out my dad's order for coffee. My dad jokingly asked her if she was ok, since it was 5am and the music was blasting, but what was meant to be a playful comment was met with a nasty bark from Janet. No apology for missing the coffee order, instead she told us that she doesn't like jokes at her job. Perhaps someone needs to teach Janet what customer service is all about or perhaps she shouldn't be working the early morning shift. What a pity that people have to deal with rude and arrogant service in a place that used to be fun to visit.

I must start off by saying Roy & Betsy along with their staff team are AMAZING! They always make sure that my cake not only looks good but tastes good. I know Roy for many years now if there's ever a problem he makes it right just to satisfy all his customers. If you want the BEST Decor cake stop in @ La Gran Bakery :) By the way Betsy my birthday cake was beautiful! Dominican style with banana filling was Delicious! It wasn't sweet, just how I wanted it "PERFECT" I love you guys, keep up the great talents that you both have.
