La Grand-Mère Poule & Shack Attakk Beaubien

This restaurant has potential, but the service consistently takes away from the experience. The food itself is generally okay, but the wait times are excessive and unapologetic. This isn’t a one-off issue—on more than one visit, we had nearly identical experiences. We waited far too long just to be acknowledged, drink service was delayed, and the wait for our meals was unreasonably long, with no communication or explanation from staff. What made it especially frustrating is that we were dining with family, including young children and seniors. Long, unexplained delays turn what should be a casual meal into a stressful and exhausting experience. Until the restaurant addresses its service and wait-time issues, it’s hard to recommend, particularly for families.

First time coming back here since the restaurant changed to Shack Attakk. It’s a very popular place. Even though it’s a large restaurant, it is always full. You have to line up to get in for brunch. The decor reminds me of a beach restaurant. There are videos of sharks on the wall. Service was a bit disappointing. We were seated over 15min before someone came to offer us coffee. They were quite disorganized but maybe they were understaffed. I found the prices quite high for a breakfast place. I know prices have been soaring since COVID. Most options were 20-24$. I just had the classic egg with sausages. I liked the presentation of my plate and the potatoes were good. Nothing to complain about.

Friendly and attentive service from the entering to leaving the restaurant. The mocca might looks a bit random but the taste is good. Amazing Mimosa serve along with the delicious meal. Thank you so much.

Food was good and enjoyed the lovely decor! We had the tacos which were really filling and tasty. The fries were a tad too salty but other than that, great experience.

I just came from breakfast at shack attack and I am very surprised they only received 4 stars! The service was excellent and were taken care of as son as we sat down. I loved the ambiance that makes you feel like you’re on a beach and all the cute details in the decor. The brunch was great, the portions are good but not too much and I loved the selections of different breads to choose from. They even had keto options on the menu as well as gluten free etc! Great place for breaky. Highly recommend!

It must be over a decade since I’ve had breakfast at La Grand-Mère Poule and all I can remember from back then is not liking their coffee and that their washrooms made me chuckle with the unexpected sound of clucking chickens over their speakers. Now, with Shack Attakk Beaubien added to their name, I went back 3 weeks ago and they have a new soundtrack! Dining indoors, or on their patio, to the sounds of the ocean breeze with its waves and seagulls; it all matches perfectly with their surfer-vibe decor. Their washrooms downstairs are definitely worth visiting for all the creative effort they’ve put into their elaborate artwork, colours, posters and lighting. Am glad to say that their regular brew coffee is actually quite good now!! I quite enjoyed La Grand “Mer” Poule, as they call their smoked salmon and asparagus stuffed crêpe bretonne, topped with hollandaise sauce and gratinéd cheese. I was expecting the smoked salmon that gets served with cream cheese on bagels but it was actually baked salmon; very tasty and not fishy, just as it should be. There’s lots to choose from on their vast menus for breakfast, lunch and supper. #francina_a_foodie

Great service, very nice restaurant, the menu is pretty diverse and it's nice that they offer vegan and keto options. We had a great meal, I literally have nothing bad to say bout this place.

First visit here as I needed a breakfast place that offered a full vegan menu, which it does! Thank you for this! The resto accepts group reservations until 9:45am so this was a plus for us as we were 12 in all. Street parking was easy and plentiful. The restaurant is quite big, lots of indoor and outdoor seating (only back area of resto is pictured). Service was good and friendly, food was quite tasty. The only cons were that 1- food presentation could be improved and 2- the portions of some plates were much smaller than those of chain restaurants. The vegan plate was quite large for example as was the omelette plate. On the other hand, the avocado toast plate was very small and not filling - the french toast slices on the french toast plate were measly in our opinion (not the usual full slices we are used to seeing elsewhere, and for $20, we expected more). The ‘fancy’ kids’ pancake dish were a cute touch 😊. I would return but would be more prudent with my choices.
