Where to Eat and Drink Near the National Mall This 4th of July | Eater DC

"This pair of Italian and French restaurants out of NYC debuted in the Federal-American National Bank Building near the White House in 2024. Ground-level Italian osteria Olio e Più evokes a grand villa nestled in the Italian countryside, with Italian executive chef Danilo Galati serving up traditional dishes like a bowl of pesto pasta that gets a textural twist from potatoes and green beans. Pastas are all handmade on-site from its shiny open kitchen in the back. Charcuterie and cheese arrives with homemade focaccia, followed by a crudo bar, salads, soups, and antipasti. Up top at its gilded Parisian sibling La Grande Boucherie, find brasserie staples like seafood towers, croque-madame, a bubbly bar, and superb steak selection." - Tierney Plumb

The Hottest New Restaurants Around D.C., July 2024

"Following three years of exponential growth — including hosting over 10,000 guests a week in NYC and a recent expansion to Chicago — founder Emil Stefkov’s Boucherie brand brought its sixth and most jaw-dropping edition yet to downtown D.C. in April. Blending the sophisticated ambiance of an indulgent steakhouse with a refined Parisian brasserie/raw bar, La Grande Boucherie infuses the historic Bank Building with an elaborate Belle Epoque-era interior filled with mahogany wood, glass partitions, and a curved metal bar top imported from Paris. Built in the 1920s, the former home to three national banks one block from the White House is included in the National Register of Historic Places." - Tierney Plumb

We went to La Grande Boucherie DC for dinner and had an incredible experience from the moment we arrived. The atmosphere is elegant and vibrant — perfect for a night out.The staff was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience feel effortless. Whether you’re celebrating something big or just in the mood to treat yourself, this place delivers. We left glowing, satisfied, and already talking about our next visit. Our server was Willy for the night and he provided such a great service !

Absolutely authentic! Vicente made our Anniversary night most memorable! My husband had the duck (BEAUTIFUL presentation and DELICIOUS) and I had the scallops (AMAZING) We also HIGHLY recommend the Traditional French Onion soup AND Esgargot!!!! Just wonderful all the way around. The whole wait staff was very kind, but if you are in DC, ask for Vicente, he was a DOLL!

If you want a upscale restaurant with a festive classy atmosphere, this is a great place to celebrate. The place has a combination old elegance and a bit of Las Vegas glitzy feel. The food, though pretty decent with a menu that’s wide enough to offer something for everyone, is definitely not upscale. The tomahawk steak we got was okay but far far from the quality of let’s say Wolfgang or Capital Grille. But serving it with a herb roasted bone marrow made it more delectable. The grilled pork loin was a bit dry and not quite up there in flavor so dare I even say that it’s inferior even to the pork chop of Texas Roadhouse. The best dish is the French onion soup with the delicious Gruyère cheese. The rest of our order: duck l’orange, foie gras, steak tartare were very good.

Overall really nice restaurant. The vibe is amazing. The music isn't too loud and it's well done inside. The food quality was ok to good, but not great. Presentation was wonderful. Service was good and the wait staff was attentive. My drink was forgotten and a trainee accidently took away half my soup. But over all it was good. I would def go here for drinks.

Fair warning: YOU’RE GOING TO BE MESMERIZED. IT’S BEAUTIFUL!! An elevated experience that you’re going to want to be part of. My cousin and I had what I would say the perfect dining experience at La Grande Boucherie tonight. The review couldn’t wait. We were right on time for our reservation, so having valet right outside was a life saver. From the moment you walk in you’re hit with pure elegance. It’s a picturesque setting, we couldn’t stop taking photos of the entire restaurant. From the artwork to the golden ceiling to the hanging chandelier, there’s so many things La Grande Boucherie got right in terms of design. Amine was our waiter and he was simply the best. There wasn’t anything that we needed the entire night, he took really good care of us. He let us know that the grilled pulpo (grilled octopus) was new on the menu and recommended we tried it. After a little back and forth between my cousin and I, we reluctantly agreed to try it. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten in DC. 5 stars for the octopus alone. All the other food recommendations were on point. I really liked that he was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to fire off recommendations immediately based on our preferences. Danielle, who is the Beverage Manager, checked in on tables seated around us and when she got to our table, we asked for some recommendations. She was so warm and welcoming , but before she could start, I did tell her that I’m not a big drinker and would need something more on the sweeter side. She sent the La Vie en Rose over and it was perfect. Could not have asked for more perfect drink and beautifully served with flowers inside. I could not stop taking pictures and I almost didn’t want to drink it. Needless to say, we ordered 2 more. Here’s what we ordered: Appetizers: SOUPE À L’OIGNON PEAR SALAD GRILLED PULPO 10/10 please order this! Entree: ENTRECÔTE GRILLÉE FILET MIGNON AU POIVRE Sides: BRUSSELS SPROUTS MACARONI AU GOUDA FUMÉ Desert: CRÈME BRÛLÉE PROFITEROLES BASQUE CHEESECAKE Drinks: LA VIE EN ROSE The food was amazing, and there wasn’t anything that we would change. I highly recommend them for a date night (although perfect for special occasions or just for dinner) I would be in awe at seeing the dining area for the first time. Can’t wait to go back and try the other new items!

What a lovely experience we had at La Grande Boucherie! My husband and and I brought our two boys on a Tuesday night. The look and feel of the place is gorgeous - it felt special right when we walked in the door. The hosts at the entrance were extremely helpful and kind. Our server was Gloria. She was phenomenal - kind, attentive, funny, informative - couldn't have asked for a better experience in terms of service! She knew the menu so well, both food and drink, and helped us find the best options for our family. She gave my husband a bunch of information about the various cocktails and how they were made and this led him to select the Boucherie Old Fashioned which he could not stop talking about for the whole meal. He said it was so well balanced and all the flavors complimented each other to make the perfect drink - thank you Gloria for the recommendation! The food was outstanding. My husband and I had the delice de bourgougne which was mild, creamy, and and luxurious. The flavor went so nicely with the honey that came with it. My oldest son had the lobster linguine. It came with the lobster tail on top and he said it was flavorful and creamy. My youngest had the filet au poivre and shared that the steak was well prepared and tender. My husband had the filet de boeuf and also noted it was cooked perfectly medium rare. I had the canard a l'orange and it was excellent. Flavorful, crispy skin, tender meat, and the variety of fruits and vegetables served with it truly complimented the meal. For dessert, we all shared the Basque cheesecake with berry coulis, profiteroles, chocolate tart, and creme brulee. All of it was incredible! The flavors were so well balanced. We had a wonderful experience - food, drinks, service, ambiance - couldn't have asked for anything better!

Wow, wow, wow! I have so many amazing things to say about this restaurant. They have valet parking for a price after 5 PM during the week. When you walk in, you walk into a grand staircase with beautiful chandeliers, and an eloquent and detailed gold ceiling. The restaurant itself was large and breathtaking. The service was superb ! Our servers were amazing bartenders as well and nothing was missed. We tried many cocktails and entrees. The French onion soup and lobster linguine are my absolute favorite! Can't forget dessert - just try the creme brulee and passion fruit sorbet. We were treated so well from the moment we came until the moment we left. I cannot wait to return to this restaurant and I recommend without any hesitation to dine here!

Spending time with my friends at this beautiful restaurant was an incredible experience! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect, the service was exceptional, and the food was simply amazing. My meat was cooked exactly as I wanted, the onion soup was rich and full of flavor, and to top it all off, the chocolate cheesecake was absolutely divine. We also tried different dishes, and I was surprised by how much I loved the snails, it was my friends’ first time trying them, and they were a hit! Christian, our waiter, was fantastic, always attentive and making sure we had the best experience. Without a doubt, I would come back again. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Ate at the bar, great service and recommendations provided by Joel. Escargot and steak were excellent. Wonderful atmosphere too, location was a bank years ago, had been boarded up for 30 years. Wonderful reconstruction on the interior provided for a great atmosphere.

Yelp
Fantastic service and atmosphere! Mike at the bar makes great drinks! I'd definitely come back!

Yelp
The steak frites were amazing, melts like butter. I have celiac and the kitchen was super accommodating with my gluten allergy. Great selection of house cocktails too. Thank you for taking such good care of my friend on her birthday!

Yelp
When was the last time you went on a PROPER date? Earlier this week, my bestie and I ve tired to this gem in DC after seeing ads and reels all over IG, and I'm still buzzing from the experience. 5/5 stars for the spot, but 10/5 stars for our server Justin. I've lived in the DMV for two years now, and let me tell you, Justin was hands down the best server I've had in that entire time. Attentive, funny, on-point with recommendations, and just an all-around vibe. Now, let's get into the food, because it was a SHOW. Mussels Frites: Absolute fire. The mussels were fresh, swimming in a savory broth that had me ready to drink it straight from the bowl. And the fries? Crispy perfection. 5/5. Profiteroles: Chef's kiss. They were light, perfectly sweet, and that chocolate sauce drizzle? Heaven. 5/5. Steak: Melted in my mouth, juicy, and cooked just how I like it. Paired perfectly with the sides. 4.8/5 because, you know, nothing's truly perfect but this was close. Lamb Shank: Tender, fall-off-the-bone goodness. The flavor was rich without being overwhelming. 5/5. It was giving roast and the gravy was great. La Vie en Rose Cocktails: Gorgeous and tasted even better than they looked. Perfect balance of sweet and tart. 5/5 (and I had a few, so trust me ). Lobster Mac: Sooo, this is where I have to keep it 100. The mac & cheese didn't hit for me. It was made with Gouda, and while I get the fancy vibe, it just wasn't my thing. The lobster was delish but there wasn't much of it, but the cheese? A bit too rich and smoky for me. 3/5. Walnut Pesto Cauliflower: Surprise hit! I didn't expect to love this as much as I did. The walnut pesto was genius and made the cauliflower feel like the surprise of the night. 4.5/5. Duck Prosciutto: This one threw me for a loop in the best way. The salty duck prosciutto layered with the various sweet, savory and caper-ey flavors, was an unexpected combo, but it WORKED. 4.9/5. Back to Justin. He didn't just serve the food--he elevated the entire experience. You know when someone is so good at what they do, they make it look effortless? That was Justin. From the jump, he welcomed us like we were old friends. His recommendations were spot on (seriously, I would've missed out on the walnut pesto cauliflower if it wasn't for him), and he had this way of reading the table's energy--knowing when to crack a joke and when to give us space. Plus, he didn't just drop off plates, he explained everything in detail, like he was just as excited about the food as we were. And let me tell you, his cocktail knowledge? Next level. I mentioned I liked something refreshing, and he steered me to the La Vie en Rose--perfection in a glass. It wasn't just his knowledge though, it was the care. I felt like we were his priority all night, even though the place got busier over time. Justin, my guy, you're a legend. 55/5 stars for you! Overall, this wasn't just dinner, it was an EXPERIENCE. Great vibes, incredible food, and of course, Justin made the night unforgettable. If you're in the DMV, go book a table at La Grande Boucherie and ask for Justin. Trust me.

Yelp
Was graciously invited to check this place out and enjoy dinner for 2! The ambiance was fabulous. I absolutely loved the live band, it felt so warm and inviting. The space is huge and decorated nicely. The staff were attentive and had great attention to detail, sweeping off tables in between courses and fixing napkins when we got up. The La Vie cocktail and absinthe mixed drinks were delicious. We started off with the mussel frites and steak tartare for apps. The mussels sadly had a large majority that didn't open up and therefore were unable to eat- for the steep price I would skip this next time. For mains we got the steak frites and filet mignon. The filet was perfectly cooked and really tender. The peppercorn sauce complimented my steak, although it was cooked so well I wouldn't have missed it! We had to get the profiteroles for dessert of course and also the yuzu matcha tart. Both were a great end to a lovely meal. I would recommend coming for drinks and live music. (Once the band wrapped up, the speakers were a bit awkwardly loud at times but we enjoyed our dinner overall!)

Yelp
Amazing place! The restaurant offers a cozy, elegant atmosphere perfect for any occasion. The food is simply outstanding-- the escargot was tender and flavorful, and the beet salad was fresh and perfectly balanced. For dessert, the dark chocolate selection was a decadent treat, rich and indulgent. The service was attentive and welcoming, making the entire experience memorable and well worth a visit.

Yelp
Wow!! This was an amazing experience! A friend and I went for dinner on a Thursday evening and tried an assortment of things. It was pretty crowded the whole time we were there, so recommend reservations. The hits of the meal were the Mussels Frites (SO good and also a great serving -- could absolutely be split), Duck Prosciutto (so good as a dip and just such a great flavor combo), the Boeuf a la Bourguignon was also delicious and the two drinks we tried were sooo good. La Vie en Rose is an obvious hit, I think this is would be enjoyed by everyone, but the St Martins Summer was such a unique flavor combo -- had a lot of spice to it and dimension, but so delicious. It was a really unique option I highly recommend. I ordered the Boucherie Creme Brulee and this was very interesting but so good, if you like Sesame and Creme Brulee this was a super fun combination of these. The cheesecake was absolutely phenomenal but cheesecake always is :) We enjoyed everything we had but these were the standouts and there were plenty other things that we wanted to try as well! The building is stunning -- I think it really adds to the experience to have such a beautiful set up and decor. We also had an amazing waiter - Mouhssine, made it such a fun dinner and upped the whole experience! I'd go and specifically request him he was wonderful :) Overall, this was an amazing experience. If you're looking for a nice dinner out, a romantic date spot, taking a client out to dinner or want to impress someone -- this really is the spot. Food is excellent, with unique options and classic french offerings and the setting itself was really a high point. DC has a lot of iconic french options and I really did think this is in line with other longstanding spots. Thank you to Stefan for the invite to try this place :) We will be back!

Yelp
Amazing dinner experience. To start off, we got the lobster bisque and the fried oyster mushrooms which were delicious. The fried oyster mushrooms are a must try, although it was a bit salty for me, it goes perfectly with the truffle aioli. The lobster bisque was very creamy and decadent. For our entrees, we got the scallops and the entrecôte grillée (ribeye). Everything was cooked to perfection, the squash purée went wonderfully with the scallops and even the vegetables that came with the ribeye were seasoned so well. We were pretty full by dessert as we had eaten every bite of our meal so we decided to share one creme brûlée but when we had a bite, we forgot we were full and finished every last bite. Service was great, our waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable in giving recommendations; he made our experience even more wonderful. The ambiance is definitely ideal for special occasions, it's beautiful inside! Thank you to Stefan for the opportunity!

Yelp
I would describe this restaurant as, "accommodating & luxury." We were treated like VIPs from the moment we entered. This French restaurant is located at 14 & G. Paid street parking is hit or miss. Parking enforcement is diligent about checking the area. Metro is a few blocks away. Valet parking at the restaurant is $26. Quick research will show several less expensive lots ($10-$20). The same block has more expensive parking than the valet. This place fills up. I would suggest calling or making a reservation on Open Table. We arrived earlier than our reservation and were seated right away. The main dining room is spacious, nicely decorated and incredible. I wanted more privacy. We were moved to the side dining room. It was beautiful. The white linen tables were lovely. Stephen and several serving assistants kept us fed and happy. I appreciated having someone paying attention to our beverages and dishes. I wouldn't have minded a few less visits. Stephen was great with pairing beverages with food and describing flavors. I tried two mocktails. The Provencal was my favorite. The blending of watermelon, grapefruit and lime was delightful. The PJ Breeze had a strong pineapple flavor. The bartender made it less sweet for me. Hubby enjoyed his drinks. While we were deciding what to order, baskets of French bread, creamy butter and rock salt was served. The salt was a nice touch. The French onion soup was amazing. The cheese was gooey and flavorful. It melted perfectly. The broth was delicious and stayed hot. It was my favorite. I can see myself sitting at the bar and ordering this soup "just because." The mussels frites were enjoyed. They were fresh. The fries were decent. I asked Stephen if it was tacky to take home the broth. He said no. If we didn't finish an item, it was placed in our bag. Even the to go containers were classy. The Oxtail was nicely presented and perfectly cooked. The kitchen staff did a great job with plating and presentation on each dish. My vegetable platter was organized with no notice ahead of time. The only request that didn't get transferred from open table was the Brussels sprouts. I will have to return and try them ( with my just because soup). The vegetables were fresh and tasty. The mashed potatoes nearly made me cry. They were so good. Don't share with anyone. Let your guests order their own. Desserts are yummy. We each enjoyed something sweet. I had the sorbet. I could not decide which flavor so I had passion fruit (yummy), lemon (decent) and raspberry (my fav). The sorbet was thick and refreshing. Hubby enjoyed the Boucherie crème brûlée. It was as described. He loved it. The managers were circulating throughout the restaurant. Each stopped by our table at some point. They were engaging and nice.

Yelp
My friend was invited to visit for an amazing dining experience and she brought me along. I've heard great feedback about this restaurant and I was thrilled to finally make it!! Upon arrival it was stunning. The building was beautiful, the architecture was gorgeous, inside as well. We checked in and we were seated immediately. We were greeted and the welcome was so warm it made us feel very comfortable. I ordered a Mocktail and a sparking water. The mocktail was the PJ breeze and it was so refreshing! My friend ordered martinis and she enjoyed them. We were served bread and for the starter I ordered the Les Escargots which was delicious!!! My friend ordered the Duck Prosciutto and she really enjoyed it as well. Our waiter, Mouhssue was amazing! He chose his top 3 on the menu for the entree and might I add he did not DISAPPOINT !! I ordered the DUCK CASSOULET and that duck was so tender and the seasoning was perfection. I absolutely burnt my tongue a couple times while indulging, yikes! Had to take my time to savor the moment! For the entree my friend ordered the BRAISED LAMB SHANK and let me tell you the presentation alone was amazing! That lamb was the lamb from the lord himself. Wow!! ABSOLUTELY delicious and fell right off the bone! It was a lot of lamb and she was unable to finish it. It was worth the price! My duck was perfect and I had zero leftovers. We also ordered the lobster Mac & cheese and I probably wouldn't try that again. It didn't wow me, but I'm glad everything was great. The dessert was the YUZU/MATCHA TART and it was low in calories and not a heavy dessert at all. Perfect for a balanced meal. Overall I would ABSOLUTELY return. It's a gorgeous setting, the service was impeccable, the bathroom was super cute and very clean! Wow! Can't wait to return and bring more people to have this experience with me!!!

Yelp
I've been back to La Grande Boucherie 3 times since my first review 5 months ago, so I felt it was time for an update. La Grande Boucherie continues to blow me away with the truly incredible service, food, and ambience. I think it goes without saying that this is truly one of the most beautiful restaurants in the district, and a great place to get a little dressed up and treat yourself. The food is phenomenal. My partner and I decided to do a little date night a few weeks ago and enjoyed a full 3 course dinner. We started off with the pear salad and french onion soup. Both were perfection and large portions - we were pretty full after just these! For our entrees, I ordered the prime steak frites, which was cooked to perfection! One of the best steaks I've had in the city. My partner got the filet de boeuf, which he was thrilled with; we both enjoyed some leftovers for lunch the next day! We capped off our meal with crème brulees. We decided to be extra and try both variations (classic and black sesame), but our favorite was the classic vanilla, a perfect way to end a lovely meal! The cocktails and service were phenomenal as always. I am already planning my return with some colleagues to celebrate a work milestone. La Grande Boucherie deserves 5 stars and more!

Yelp
TL;DR: Great food for every pallet, vibes and live music - perfect date night or time with friends - expect to be transported to France with a dash of American stakehouse. Atmosphere Y'all, La Grand Boucherie offers a grand and memorable entrance, complete with a red carpet that begs for a photo-op. Please take a photo there! The 20-foot ceilings and dim, moody lighting create an intimate, romantic atmosphere. The bar area is lively, with the high ceilings amplifying the echoes of conversations and laughter, giving the space a vibrant, energetic feel. Whether you're popping bottles or settling in for a cozy dinner, the ambiance sets the stage for a memorable evening. Seating and Menu The menu at Legrand Bucher showcases French classics but also provides more casual options for a broader audience. The pâté and beef BOURGUIGNON are fantastic choices for those looking to indulge in French cuisine, but if you're craving something different, you can also find a burger or a fun tomahawk steak to indulge on the menu. It may not be the first thing you'd expect at a French restaurant, but it caters to all palates. Food Experience For my appetizer, I had the Wagyu beef carpaccio, which was lean, flavorful, and large enough to share with three or four people. Paired with their fresh bread and a little extra aioli, it was a delightful start. My husband, enjoyed the pâté dish and expressed how it reminded him of being in France this summer for the Olympic Games. For the entrée, I opted for the Bichon burger, cooked medium. While the burger itself was well-presented, it lacked the robust flavors I typically enjoy. I felt like it could have benefited from something like a red pepper jelly. Still, the homemade mayonnaise was a nice touch and made the dish feel more authentic. My husband enjoyed the beef bourguignon, which was tender with a generous portion size. I will add, he felt like Petite Cerise did a better job in terms of "juiciness" but Le Geande Boucherie provided more meat. For dessert, I tried a new item on the menu, the chocolate mousse which was designed for sharing. The portion size was generous, easily serving 2 to 4 people. While I enjoyed the flavor, I found the texture a bit gritty; I was expecting something smoother and richer. I ended up taking it home and looked forward to adding it to my coffee the next day! My husband tried the baked Basque cheesecake. It was light and perfectly complemented by a coulis that added a fresh burst of flavor. Service The service was impeccable. Our server was attentive and professional, ensuring that everything was clean and organized throughout the meal. I especially appreciated how they meticulously cleaned the bread crumbs from the table, showing their attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience. Final Thoughts Legrand Bucher is not just a restaurant; it's an experience. From the red carpet entrance to the lively atmosphere, this spot makes for a perfect night out, whether it's for a date or a fun gathering with friends. The food is high-quality, and while some dishes may be better suited to more adventurous palates, the overall experience is worth it. I'll definitely return, especially for their absinthe "green" happy hour!

Yelp
From the moment you enter, this restaurant impresses with its stunning decor--from the red carpet entrance to the elegant staircase, it truly feels like stepping into the Grammys. The sophisticated and vibrant atmosphere, enhanced by fantastic music, makes it an ideal spot for special occasions like weddings or dinner parties. I ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes, which was incredibly tender and complemented perfectly by a peppercorn sauce. Cooked medium, it was delightful, though I wish the meal included vegetables for a pop of color. Without knowing it was steak, I might have mistaken it for meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. A garnish would elevate the presentation significantly. My friend raved about the flavorful and aromatic onion soup, while I indulged in the Wagyu appetizer, which truly melted in my mouth. We also enjoyed some lovely rosé champagne and finished with a delicious crème brûlée. The pricing was reasonable, making it a treat worth indulging in. This restaurant is perfect for a date night, and while the food is excellent, improving the presentation would enhance the overall experience. Our waitress, Stephanie, was exceptional--professional and knowledgeable. Her insightful meal descriptions and recommendations made us feel welcome from the beginning. Kudos to her for adding to our wonderful experience!

Yelp
Went here on a weekday for date night, around 730pm and there was live jazz music. It was pretty busy but simmered down by 930pm. Our server Emily was absolutely amazing. Water was never empty, table was cleared of dishes and crumbs frequently and her recommendations were all a 10/10. She also always checked to see how everything was after we got our next course. For drinks, the Mayan punch was Devine, there's a smoky taste and just a hint of spice. They also make good espresso martinis, but note they don't come with baileys so if you want that then request it. For appetizers, the escargot and mussels both had great flavors. The mint wasn't too over powering in the escargot and I loved dipping the bread in the leftover sauce. I also did the same with the mussels. Also not the mussels come with fries. For dinner/main course, the filet mignon au poivre is a must! The peppercorn gravy and garlic mash potatoes compliments it so well and it's just amazing. I ordered mine medium. Sides - lobster mac and cheese is very good, taste fresh and as if it's incorporated into the sauce and not just added lobster to mac and cheese. brussel sprouts are also a 10/10 there is some sort of sauce on them and they're perfectly crispy yet soft and the picked onions pair great. For dessert, you really can't go wrong. We tried the profiteroles and salted caramel cheesecake, liked them both but I would try the crème brûlée next time! Very Sophisticated atmosphere, classy music (live music when I went) and overall great vibes. There's a beautiful staircase leading to a fountain surrounded by tables and then a beautiful bar. There is also an upstairs.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience at what I believe to be the most stunning restaurant in DC! Our server, Mouhssine, went above and beyond in helping me navigate the menu due to my gluten intolerance, especially in a French restaurant. We started with the Caesar salad and mussel frites, both of which were absolutely delicious. However, the true highlight was definitely my main course, the Peppercorn Filet Mignon with the most incredible sauce! My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his steak frites. To top it off, we indulged in some fresh and flavorful sorbets and coffees. I can't wait to return with friends and experience their brunch! Glad to have this addition to our DC dining experience.

Ambiance - the restaurant is stunning. Decor respectful to the architecture. The wooden chairs became a tad uncomfortable for my significant other after a 3 hour dinner, but overall beautiful space. We loved the live music from the balcony. Service - We arrived at 7:25 for our reservation, we were seated about 10 or so which set the tone for the evening. After being seated it was 10-15 minutes before we were greeted by our waitress. Truly seemed like a staffing issue in our area as she seemed flustered with the number of tables, but she was pleasant and apologetic. I believe Colin (not sure if correct name) may have noticed this and he came to chat at our table for a bit and made some great recommendations - scallops, macaroni. Food - The bad: we had temperature issues/cut of the steak was odd for the filet mignon au poivre. The meat was tough, the ends were well done and middle was medium rare not medium, it just put a poor taste in my mouth. I'm not sure if this was because it was a thinner cut of filet mignon, but it was not enjoyable. The tuna tartare was bland, which was different than the event I attended prior where it was flavorful and in a cone. The meat in the boeuf a la bourguignon was tough and dry. In hindsight I wish we opted for different mains and starters. The good: The scallops were amazing, well flavored, and the highlight of the evening. The creme brulee and profiteroles were also delicious. The main thing that stood out for us was the service time - it was a 3 hour dinner that should've been 1.5 -2 hours instead. In general I do not think people allot 3 hours for dinner unless it's a special occasion/Michelin dinner. In terms of the food there were other items I would consider trying if I could be in and out in a reasonable timeframe. We visited on an off-peak Wednesday evening, but it still was quite busy.

Yelp
Critics have called La Grande Boucherie "the Titanic of D.C.'s restaurant scene". While I can see what they mean, I think that sentiment is a bit harsh. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and grand. However, the food is average and underwhelming. For the price, I would expect the dishes to be amazing. For instance, the escargot (4/5) was enjoyable but it's hard to go wrong with the dish when it's drowned in butter and garlic. Also, it should be noted that the restaurant is spacious and there were a lot of open tables on my visit, so a reservation isn't necessary. Crevettes Grillees - Tasty and perfectly grilled prawns. I preferred the taste of the prawns in plain lemon juice and olive oil over the bernaise sauce. (4/5) Filet Mignon Au Poivre - Good but not memorable, I'd rather go to an actual steakhouse for the price point. (4/5) Canard à L'orange - I would have liked the duck to be seared a little more, the flavors were good but not amazing. (3/5) Watermelon Salad - Fresh ingredients but nothing amazing or memorable. (4/5) Profiteroles - Delicious and nicely presented, but hard to go wrong with ice cream and chocolate sauce. (5/5) Black Sesame Creme Brûlée - My least favorite dish that I tried. I love black sesame flavor but there was too much black sesame on top of the creme brûlée which was overpowering. (2/5)

Yelp
Had to come on here and do an update. La Grande Boucherie invited me back for a second try. This time I went for dinner. They managed to wow me. Ronald gave us exceptional customer service throughout the whole evening. A few things he did that stood out to me: 1. He asked us if we were on a time crunch or not (to ensure they accommodate us accordingly as there were multiple shows and events in DC for the evening- very considerate) 2. He explained each of the menu items that we were interested in and gave suggestions 3. He gave in depth explanations to why he suggested an item. I also couldn't help but hear him do it to other tables as well, so I could tell his service was the same across the board We ordered the french onion soup and the lobster bisque for appetizers, the BOEUF À LA BOURGUIGNON and the saumon roti for our mains, and for dessert we did the BOUCHERIE CRÈME BRÛLÉE and the cheesecake. Everything was delicious but the BOEUF À LA BOURGUIGNON was top tier. Definitely recommend! Thank you Ronald for the 10/10 experience!

Yelp
La Grande Boucherie has been on our list since it opened and it blew us away. With a location near the White House and the National Mall, it is convenient for people visiting and also a great spot for a celebratory dinner or drinks. We've been to a number of DC French restaurants and La Grande Boucherie offered something different. We liked the food and price point much better than Michelin-starred Metier. The servers and staff were welcoming and made us feel at home like the more casual Primrose and the decor was better than DC-institution Le Diplomate. What set La Grande Boucherie apart for us was the beautiful decor - we were seated next to a piano overlooking the bar and an ornate statue. The chandelier and even the ceiling added another layer of elegance. They also had a nice private space and while we did not make it upstairs, it looked like a great Birds Eye view and event space. They had an extensive menu of French favorites and steaks. The filet mignon was like butter and we also enjoyed the tuna tartare, frites, and canard a l'orange (one of their signature dishes, seared duck breast). While you could easily overspend at other French restaurants and walk away hungry, we were full and able to enjoy some leftovers the following day. Thankfully, we did save room for dessert and the profiteroles (picture a little cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream in the middle and dark chocolate on top) were well worth it! We also loved the cocktails and even if you were not in the mood for a meal, the mirrored bar and creative cocktails are worth the visit alone. Move over some of our other favorites - this is our new go-to French restaurant!

Yelp
When DC's renowned food critic, Tom Sietsema, calls a restaurant "The Titanic of the DC restaurant scene" it raises eyebrows, and begs several questions: Why is our beloved food critic working overtime to sink a newcomer to the DC food scene? Are DC restauranteurs, who have strong ties to the aforementioned food critic, that concerned with some competition? It's all very ironic, after all - the Titanic had the best decor, and food. Luckily for DMV residents, and tourists, La Grande Boucherie is not on a transatlantic crossing but firmly situated in a gorgeous historic setting. If you're a history buff or like intricate decor this place is a must visit. I was a bit confused by the red carpet outside, but if you're an Influencer type you'd probably love It. Now on to the good stuff. This is a French restaurant and as such we started with bread, butter, escargot and mussels. Bread and butter were good. Escargot was nice although I found I'm not a fan of large parsley pieces in my escargot. My husband's mussels were fantastic, the sauce was so good we asked for a spoon to properly finish the dish. For the mains we had the Waygu burger which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The truffled mayo sauce, sautéed onions, and Gruyère cheese made my taste buds happy. The French fries were perfection. My husband ordered the entrecôte with bordelaise sauce.... Wow! Again, perfectly cooked to medium rare, with the sauce taking it to the next level. Dessert consisted of profiteroles, so good, and the basque cheesecake - wow! Now this was a winner! In summary, I wouldn't let a very partial review keep you from trying this spot. If you're in downtown DC, this is a great bet for a nice dinner, or to host a big group. Pro Tip: bring a sweather, it's a bit cold inside. Oh, and the bathroom is unisex. Willy was our server tonight, and he was great. We dined at Yelp's invite. However, this is my honest review of tonight's dinning experience. PS.. DMV residents let's do a better job of calling out the bullies of the DC food scene.

Yelp
This restaurant is one of the prettiest restaurants in DC. You walk in and up a grand staircase to a beautiful Parisian style restaurant. The luxury doesn't just stop there. The service is wonderful, our server Felipe even ended the meal with a card welcoming us back. I honestly after looking at the menu couldn't help but to try a little bit of everything. The streaks were perfectly cooked and the French onion soup is chef's kiss. The profiteroles were delicious and came with a pretty cool presentation of freshly poured dark chocolate on top. The dark chocolate is sweet and balanced without a tartness just delicious. I will for sure be back for the Wagyu burger. Until next time....

Yelp
This is my second time dining in which the first was 10/10 amazing and delicious. This second time was very strange. My lunch was booked for 2 I was running late and asked if I could push my lunch back to which the hostess said it wasn't possible. I rush to arrive at 2pm and arrive to a completely empty restaurant. There were endless seats and booths open so that was very dishonest. Next I ordered the mini seafood plateau. It's was awful the seafood was not fresh and for 155$ it tasted horrible. The oysters had no natural liquors the lobster and crab had a smell to them and the clams were also dried out. Very disappointed with the entire experience. There was also no music playing the entire time. Empty , no ambiance and poor quality ingredients. It's was sad.

Yelp
Had a great dining experience at La Grande Boucherie! First, the atmosphere, the inside is very open and elegant. I expected it to be a little bit louder inside but I could talk to my friend easily without yelling. They have high ceilings and a the chandeliers and art was fabulous. Now for the food, we did the whole deal and got an appetizer, entree and dessert. For appetizers, we opted for the gaspacho and Caesar salad. Both were delicious, I would recommend the gaspacho. For entrees, we got the filet mignon and steak and frites. Both were cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the peppercorn sauce on my food. Usually I do not like a bunch of sauce on my food, but opted for it based on staff recommendation. I'm glad I did! Lastly, the dessert. The basque cheesecake came recommended and it was very creamy but not too sweet. Perfect way to end the meal. We also ordered some cocktails, none were anything special but the wine selection is very nice. Want to also give a special shout-out to our waiter James!!! He was very attentive and had an awesome personality. I can't wait to go back to try something else on the menu, the mussels were tempting and looked tasty!

Yelp
We went to the one in NYC and loved it. We made reservations for a Friday night. The restaurant is gorgeous. I'm not sure what business was located here before, but they did a great job with the place. It's a very large space, with seating on the second level overlooking the center. I was honestly more impressed with the décor than I was the food. They had just opened not too long ago and probably still figuring things out. They forgot our Pommes Frites, even after asking several times. Finally brought it to our table at the end of our meal, but still charged us for the order. We ordered the Les Escargots and 2pp Boucherie Sole Meuniere to share. Escargots could have used more salt, but Sole Meuniere was perfect. Certainly doesn't compare to their located in NYC. While food and drinks were good, I was mostly disappointed with the service. Food took way too long to get to the table and server hardly checked in. I do not recommend driving to the restaurant if you can avoid it. Terrible parking in the area.

Yelp
What a grand time we had at La Grande Boucherie! Three opulent floors of stunningly gorgeous decor greeted us as we entered. The hostess was so warm and welcoming, which set the tone for our visit. Live jazz music floated through the air as we were seated, giving the restaurant a lively atmosphere. We were seated at a tiny table for two. Thank goodness for the ledge against the wall, where we put our belongings to give ourselves more table room. Service was prompt and attentive from the moment we sat down. Glasses of water were immediately poured, and consistently refilled (without asking) throughout the meal. Finished plates were cleared as soon as we were done eating. Fresh sets of silverware were brought in preparation for the next course. I also appreciated how the wait staff worked as a team to bring out food and drinks to guests. Our server had great recommendations and knew the menu well. We enjoyed a few of his recommendations including the escargots, steak frites, and La Vie en Rose cocktail. Here's what we enjoyed: Boucherie Sazerac: sweet and citrusy with just a bit of bite. Very smooth. Loved this. Boucherie Old Fashioned: beautiful, citrus-forward take on an old classic. I enjoyed the citrus essence that permeated from the glass before I tasted it. It was perfectly balanced between sweet and strong. La Vie en Rose: gorgeous cocktail from start to finish. Beautiful blush color. Delightfully refreshing with a fruity, bubbly finish. Leviathan Cabernet Sauvignon: this was probably my favorite. Bold, but not overpowering. Lush and juicy with a smooth finish. An excellent complement to any dish with beef or chocolate. French Onion Soup: a thick layer of cheese topping a generous portion of the best French onion soup I've ever had. The onions were sweet and tender. The cheese was delightfully chewy and gave the soup a wonderful texture... Plus it was served at the perfect temperature to enjoy right away. Absolutely divine! Escargots: perfectly cooked, not too chewy, and the sauce had just a touch of mint which gave the dish an unexpected brightness. Fortunately, our server brought us extra bread so that none of that delicious sauce went to waste. Steak frites: crispy, hot, delicious fries; tender, juicy and flavorful steak cooked to a perfect medium, and rich, peppery sauce to accompany the steak. Our server told us that this dish was a best seller, and now we know why. My dining companion and I made a game of seeing how many orders of steak frites we could count before we left the restaurant. Suffice it to say that eventually we lost count. Filet mignon au poivre over mashed potatoes: the most succent and tender filet I've had in a long time. The green peppercorn sauce added a pungency that complimented the meat without being overpowering. The mashed potatoes were deliciously buttery with a thick fluffy, texture. Delicious! Tarte au chocolat: silky smooth and luxuriously rich. However, despite being made with 60% cocoa, there wasn't the slightest hint of bitterness. Boucherie creme brulee: a unique take on a French classic. This was a cool, dark, creamy, mousse-like dessert topped with crispy sweetened black sesame seeds. My dining companion described it as "creme brulee if it was prepared on a grill." There was a distinct smokiness to it, which gave it an unforgettable flavor. If you remember sesame honey candy sticks, then you'll have an idea of what this tastes like. A unique take on creme brulee for sure, and definitely worth a try. I must say that the service felt a bit rushed at times. Our server spoke very quickly and at times it was hard to understand what he was saying because he spoke so fast. Throughout our visit he seemed to be in a hurry, and that sense of urgency led to us feeling rushed as well. I would have appreciated a slower dining pace so that we could have had more time to enjoy our cocktails and courses without being pressured to immediately decide on the next course. It also would have been great to have a cocktail menu remain at the table. I wanted a glass of red wine with my dinner, but wasn't able to order until I was almost finished with that course. We would also have appreciated if the staff cleared the bread crumbs from the table in between courses. Unfortunately, our server did not clear the crumbs until just before the dessert course. Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't be a big deal. However, the table was already pretty small and baguette crumbs are a most unpleasant exfoliant. Despite these small challenges, the food and drinks were exquisite, the atmosphere was a lively, and we had an absolutely splendid time!

Yelp
Atmosphere: 5+ stars Service: 4.5 stars Food: 3 stars This place is banking on the fancy atmosphere for success. The food is nothing to write home about and the prices are higher than average for what you get. Eggs Benedict, for example, will be less pricey and better elsewhere. My friend said the eggs Benedict was below average quality. We had a group of 11 and I can say the service was very good for our party size. We had some trouble getting water refills in the second half of our visit but otherwise very good. Specifically, I had the vegetarian sandwich and it was ok but kinda light on veges. The bread was great. The burger is enormous. The scallops were said to be very good. The croque madame looks great. I won't be rushing back but it's good for a large party reservation. 3% service fee is added to bills.

Yelp
Came in on Thursday, August 22nd by way of a yelp invite. We were seated right away and met our waiter Willie who started us with a lemon drop and an old fashion. Escargot - 10/10 for my guest, I tried one for the first time but did not care for the texture. Mussels 10/10 - the broth was amazing and the mussels were fresh. The shallots and bread sent the dish over for me. I literally put pieces of bread in the broth to soak up the broth and layered it with the mussels and the shallots. I'd come back for this alone. Canard A L'Orange - 5/10 - the texture was ok but it lacked flavor. Served with a saffron apple that I wished was cooked a bit more it didn't pair with the duck in a way that elevated any part of the dish for me. Filet Mignon - 6/10 - cooked medium this steak was a little more medium rare than I would've preferred which messed with the texture for me. It also lacked flavor and the pairing with the béarnaise didn't do much for it. It was served with mashed potatoes which was the star of the dish for me. They melted in your mouth and were seasoned perfectly. Profiteroles & Cheesecake - 8/10 - the consistency of the cheesecake was perfect and the salted caramel was a nice addition. I'm not a fan of dark chocolate but you needed the bitterness to contrast the sweetness of the cheesecake and ice cream. The interior to the restaurant is stunning, housed in an old bank it has a very regal feel to it. Seating is rather cramped unless you have a large party and the location was very cold so you should bring a sweater if you're inclined. Lots of street parking and garages around but availability will always depend on the day and time. Thank you Willie for the amazing service and thanks for the invite.

Yelp
This is the most luxe, high quality French dining experience I've had in DC! It was such an honor to be invited and welcomed here on a Thursday evening. I intentionally did not look at the entree pics via yelp before coming because I wanted to just go off the menu descriptions for once lol. I ordered the wagyu caparccio for my appetizer, braised lamb shank and side of lobster mac for entree, and the yuzu matcha tarte for dessert. Also a few cocktails in between! My friend ordered the escargot, duck cassoulet, same dessert and a beautiful mocktail. We both loved our meals and drinks...5 stars. The chefs, bartenders and our amazing server Mauhssie delivered superb excellence. I truly felt like a queen tonight! The decor is top notch chef's kiss spectacular. I believe it might have previously been a bank but I'm unsure. It is dripping in antique gold, red carpet, statues, vintage piano and furniture. The manager even gave my guest and I a beautiful book of the restaurant full of beautiful photos of the restaurant! Thank you so much Stefan!! You are sooo kind. I can't thank you enough. I can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
This was hands down one of the most amazing dining experiences I've ever had in DC. From the moment you walk in on the red carpet to the moment you're seated, you're greeted with stunning views--people included. The staircase leading to the dining area is a literal dream, and I felt extremely opulent entering the establishment. I'm sure the birthday girl felt the same. It's definitely the perfect spot for a date night or a girls' night out. The only thing I would have loved the design team to improve is the seating. While the atmosphere was stunning, the chairs gave off more of a bistro vibe--like a place you'd pop into for a quick bite--rather than a restaurant where we dined for two hours. Now, let's get to the real reason we were there: the food and the service! Both were out of this world. Ronnie, our amazing server, knew the ins and outs of the menu and had no trouble suggesting guest favorites. Our drinks were the Boucherie Old Fashioned and the La Vie En Rose. I have to say, the Old Fashioned might be the best I've had in a while, and since it's my go-to cocktail, I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur. The care and attention to detail were on point, right down to the garnishes--kudos to the bartender. I had a sip of the La Vie En Rose, which was like a symphony of flavors blending together beautifully. It's their version of a French 75 but elevated. Absolutely delightful. We started with the escargot, immersed in a garlic and herb butter mixture that was so delectable. The melted herb butter paired perfectly with the fresh bread. The escargot had a phenomenal texture and was prepared exactly to my liking, though my guest, the birthday girl, preferred a little more salt. For my entrée, I chose the filet mignon, prepared medium. The temperature was perfect, and it was topped with a green peppercorn cream sauce and served over a bed of mashed potatoes. The portion size was just right--I left satisfied but still had room for dessert. The birthday girl enjoyed the prime steak frites, and she was extremely pleased as well. The steak was perfectly prepared--chef's kiss--and the fries were crispy yet still moist on the inside. I couldn't have asked for a better dinner. For dessert, Ronnie surprised the birthday girl with a delicious chocolate-covered ice cream sandwich. The pastry was fluffy and buttery, yet had a subtle crunch--hard to explain, but amazing to experience. I opted for the passionfruit sorbet, and she had a scoop of the lemon sorbet. I also ordered the cheesecake. When I say the dessert experience stole the show, I mean it! The immersion of flavors was unexpected but incredible--you really have to try it for yourself. It was the perfect way to welcome my bestie to Chapter 35. I'd like to thank Ronnie for being such an amazing server and the staff, especially Mr. A.J.M., who was extremely helpful. Throughout the night, we had people checking in on us, our water glasses were never empty, and Ronnie made sure everything was perfect. The service flowed so well that before we knew it, 7:00 had turned to 9:00, and we were finishing up dessert. I give this entire experience a 20/10--definitely worth it.

Yelp
Exquisite Dining Experience with Exceptional Service at La Grande Boucherie I had the pleasure of dining at La Grande Boucherie recently, and it was truly a remarkable experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism, setting the tone for a fantastic evening ahead. The customer service provided by the staff, led by the manager Mufti, was nothing short of exceptional - they were attentive, knowledgeable, and truly went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was perfect. The ambiance of La Grande Boucherie is elegant and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a special event or a romantic date night. The dim lighting, soft music, and tasteful decor all contributed to a cozy and intimate atmosphere that enhanced our dining experience. As for the food, every dish we tried was a culinary masterpiece. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the lobster bisque was rich and creamy, and the steak with mashed potatoes was cooked to perfection - each bite was a delight for the taste buds. The attention to detail in the presentation and flavor of each dish truly showcased the skill and expertise of the chef. To top off an already amazing evening, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a signed book detailing the history of the restaurant as a parting gift. This thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to the dining experience and made me appreciate the establishment even more. In conclusion, La Grande Boucherie is a hidden gem that exceeds expectations in every aspect. With its excellent customer service, superb menu knowledge, inviting ambiance, and delicious cuisine, it is undoubtedly a top choice for a special night out. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. Five stars all the way!

Yelp
My friend and I was invited to enjoy a complimentary meal (one appetizer, entree, dessert, and two drinks per person) at La Grande Boucherie last week and we were so excited for the occasion. Despite this, here are my honest thoughts about our experience and the food we tried and I want to be upfront that this was a complimentary experience. The interior was very grand and spacious and reminded me of one of the rooms inside the Palace of Versailles. It is pretty loud inside since there was music playing and lots of other parties there dining in. One complaint I do have is how close some of the tables were to each other. Upon being seated, we were given some complementary baguette and butter to start. The butter here is very high quality and went with the baguette. The insides of the baguette had the perfect texture, my friend and I thought it could have been warmed up more because the crust was pretty hard to eat. We each ordered a drink, appetizer, entree, and dessert and here were are thoughts: LA VIE EN ROSE My friend and I both got the La Vie En Rose cocktail, which was recommended by our server. I liked that it was fruity and bubbly, yet not too sweet. If I was feeling a second drink, I would have definitely ordered another one. The drink was pretty strong and lasted throughout our entire meal. LES ESCARGOTS I love escargot so I couldn't pass up on this one. Each order comes with six in an escargot plate that is covered in lots of garlic butter, parsley, and shallots. I would recommend enjoying this with as much parsley and shallots on each escargot as possible to give it extra flavor. By itself, the escargot is pretty bland . With whatever leftover garlic butter left, we enjoyed our baguette with it! TARTARE DE THON ET AVOCAT The tuna tartare was quite good despite the fact I'm not a big tuna fan. It was fresh and went well with the avocado spread. The grapefruit citrus salad was a nice lightly sweet and tart flavor that complemented the tuna tartare well. This appetizer is on the lighter side and very enjoyable. FILET MIGNON AU POIVRE This comes with an 8 oz beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes and a green peppercorn cream sauce -- a much fancier version of steak and mashed potatoes and gravy. I noticed there were lots of black pepper flakes, which was the highlight of this entree for me. The tenderloin by itself isn't too seasoned, so I would recommend eating every bite with some potatoes and sauce. It was extremely tender! The mashed potatoes had the perfect texture and was pretty garlicky. I would recommend this if you are a fan of steak and mashed potatoes. CANARD À L'ORANGE This comes with two pieces of seared duck breast, with some apples, greens and some sort of sauce on the side. My friend ordered this one and I enjoyed the apples with the duck. The duck was a bit bland, but the middle parts of each piece was so tender and juicy. However, the end parts of the piece were tough to chew on. BOUCHERIE CRÈME BRÛLÉE For dessert, I wanted to try something unique and my eyes landed on the Boucherie creme brulee as I scanned through the menu. Essentially, this was a black sesame creme brulee, where the custard is mixed with black sesame and then caramelized with Cantonese black sesame. I love Cantonese black sesame desserts, so I was really excited to try this one. For the most part, I enjoyed it. The custard was full of black sesame flavor and was very velvety. The top was really caramelized, which I didn't enjoy as much because the texture was a bit too rough (the crunch is not as delicate or "melt in your mouth" the same way as a normal creme brulee) but my friend really enjoyed the crunch, so it's a personal preference. TARTE AU CHOCOLAT/CARAMEL Despite it being 66% dark chocolate, the tart was still really sweet. We thought this was a bit too dense and sweet for a dessert. It reminded us of a fancy candy bar with more caramel than chocoalte, but nothing stood out to us about the tart compared to the Boucherie creme brulee. The service was helpful and friendly. It was a bit slow (we dined in at 6:30 and left after 8:30, so we were there for more than two hours), but they explained that our initial server had to leave in the middle of serving us. Overall, the servers were attentive and good at picking up quick eye contact and hand waves.

Yelp
It's hard to know where to start my review from, with a gem like this! I'll try to guide you through my exploratory experience :) Probably the first astonishing and breathtaking impression one has, when arriving, is walking up the elegant stairs, which slowly and warmly welcome you to an older time. The music, the plants, the piano, the bar with its vintage separate mirrors on the back (which my friend with me noticed), smiling waiters elegantly walking around and opening doors for you...it feels like something has paused, when you are there. Something that tells you "and now, just enjoy". We've been kindly advised about our possible choices by an excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly waiter, who made sure we wouldn't miss out on the menu, and who had a perfect balance between always being there for us, while also respecting our space and letting us enjoy our time together. The dishes were really good. My favorite was definitely the appetizer with duck prosciutto and figs. It wasn't on the menu, it was a special, but it might be there in the future as well. I loved how different textures (the soft, the fresh and crunchy, the creamy...) all contrasted and yet balanced each other out. Another highlight was the duck orange, which you can also see in the pictures. It was incredibly soft, flavorful, and embraced by a delicious juice. I'd pick it over the boef bourguignon, which was also harmonious and very well executed, but maybe without the duck's decisive touch. Desserts were a nice closure to our meal, and the boucherie Creme brulee is such an interesting creation. I would definitely go for it again. The picture doesn't look great, I apologize for that, but don't let yourself be misled! I loved my profiterole, probably because the intensity of the chocolate cascade was making me so happy inside! Overall a great experience, and I am really grateful for how we've been taken care of, at all times. Maybe the only part of our meal that wasn't a highlight were the cocktails we ordered at the end. In our opinion, the flavors weren't very easy to detect, there's room for emphasizing the different notes, otherwise they give a sense of being waterish.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time on both visits to La Grande Boucherie. I think the food is more of a 4/5, but for me the ambience and service brought this rating to a 5. On the first visit, I tried the raw oysters and salmon roti. The oysters were fresh and had a clean finish. The salmon was cooked well and I enjoyed the cream corn that accompanied it. I would say it is lacking in salt, but overall a great dish. On my second visit, I tried the tuna tartare for my starter. It was also fresh and pairs well with the citrus salad. I think it could use some acidity and salt. Second course, I decided to have the mussels, which is listed as a starter, as a main size with frites. The white wine sauce was light and creamy, but not overpowering filled with leeks and shallots--which I love. Even if you don't like those vegetables the sauce is delicious and well balanced. I also loved the frites, they were crisp and a generous portion with a lovely aioli. For dessert, I had the basque cheesecake with the mixed berry coulis. Instead of the coulis you can get chocolate or salted caramel sauce. The cheesecake was a good sized portion with a rich taste that was complemented well by the berry coulis. The bread is fantastic. Some of the best quality baguette I've had in DC in a while. Service was organized, straightforward and professional. Hosts accommodated my seating request and my server, James, was knowledgeable and very friendly. The other servers and manager present were also kind. The inside is beautiful. The ceiling decoration is remarkable. The dishes and silverware really elevate the experience. The bathroom is fabulous, artwork and decorative wallpaper make you feel like you're having an experience outside of the DC area. The music was not too loud and gave the right energy. The plan also allows guests to look into the kitchen. My only complaint is that some of the seats are very close together. I heard 80% of the conversation next to me.

Yelp
My husband and I had a magnificent dining experience at La Grande Boucherie. Upon arrival, I could not help but stare at the beautiful ceiling and staircase leading to the dining area. The hostess was quick to check us in for our reservation and escort us up the stairs. The dining room was gorgeous- you can tell every detail was thought out. A part of me was nervous that maybe the food would be subpar and that all the energy went into making the space beautiful. Our waiter Steven, broke down the menu for us, offered suggestions, and let us know the specials. To begin, we ordered the French onion soup and mussels. My Toulousain husband was very impressed by the French onion soup and the broth the mussels came in was delightful. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the mussels and the portion size of this appetizer. As mains, we got the prime steak frites and faux filet Bercy- both perfectly cooked medium rare and had a nice grilled taste on top. We chose a bottle of Burgundy's Gamay to pair with the meal and made note to purchase this bottle since it was so good! By this point we were pretty stuffed, but being dessert lovers and having enjoyed everything about our meal so far, we knew we had to indulge. I opted for the Boucherie crème brûlée, which was a black sesame twice on the traditional dessert. My husband is all about his choux so got the profiteroles and drowned it with the chocolate sauce. During our meal, Scott (I think he was the manager), made it a point to check in with us twice and we thought that just made the whole experience even better. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was exceptional. Can't wait to come back again for a special occasion!

Yelp
La Grande Boucherie is perfectly situated in the heart of DC, just a few blocks away from the White House and the Monument, and a stone's throw from the Metro Center station. Parking on a Thursday evening at 6 pm (our reservation time) was fairly easy to find, which was a pleasant surprise in this area. Interior: The restaurant's interior is stunning, with beautifully hand-painted gold ceilings that immediately catch your eye. I loved being able to see the open kitchen and was delighted that our table was near a piano--I would love to return one evening when it's in use. The grand red staircase adds a touch of drama, perfect for photos, though it does get a bit crowded with people coming and going. The restroom was clean and spacious, with a charming powder room for freshening up. Just a note: the bathroom is coed, but each stall offers complete privacy. Drinks: My cousin enjoyed the espresso martinis, which were perfectly balanced--not too strong. I opted for the non-alcoholic Provençal, featuring watermelon, grapefruit, basil, thyme, and lime. It was the perfect refreshing summer drink with a nice fizz, and the combination of watermelon and basil was incredibly revitalizing. Hors D'Oeuvres (Appetizers): We started with the Les Escargots--snails with shallots, lemon, parsley, and garlic butter. They were smooth, buttery, and just the right amount of savory without being overly salty. Next, we tried the Les Moules à la Poulette--steamed mussels with leeks, shallots, and white wine, served with a toasted baguette. This dish wasn't our favorite as it lacked depth in flavor. However, our server, Susu, was understanding and quickly arranged for us to switch to the Caesar salad, which turned out to be a great alternative. We also appreciated that two hosts took the time to check in and listen to our feedback, showing that the staff is attentive and genuinely cares about the guest experience. Major points for that! Plats Principaux (Main Dishes): For the main course, we had the Crevettes Grillées--marinated prawns with asparagus and Béarnaise sauce. The prawns were perfectly cooked, and the sauce was the ideal complement. We also had the Fletan Rôti (roasted halibut) with a Florentine preparation and meunière sauce. The halibut was light, well-portioned, and paired wonderfully with the capers. Dessert: To finish, we shared the Basque cheesecake with salted caramel sauce. It was light and airy, just the right touch of sweetness without being too rich--perfect for ending a meal when you're already feeling full. We wrapped up our night with a lovely walk to the White House, just a short stroll away. I'm looking forward to returning to La Grande Boucherie for another visit--next time, I'll be sure to try the duck!

Yelp
La Grande Boucherie is a beautiful establishment, one of the grandest in the city if not the grandest in terms of size, ambience, all of that. We had a great experience as the service was excellent and attentive. Our waitress, Sou Sou, was kind, helpful, and had lots of good suggestions. Only complaint, which likely wasn't her fault, is the dessert took a while to come out so we ended up spending longer at dinner than we'd hoped. To start we ordered the escargot and French onion soup, which we enjoyed with delicious bread. Pretty standard but on the pricy side compared to other options in the city. For mains we got steak frites and the wagyu burger. The steak was well crusted, seasoned, and cooked to a nice medium rare, but the knife could've been sharper, was struggling to cut it haha. Small detail. The wagyu burger was a bit disappointing, as the bottom bun was burnt -- we like it toasted but you could taste the char -- and it also got very soggy quickly and didn't hold well. The flavors were there though, and the fries and sauces were all good. For dessert, the basque cheesecake was delicious and the profiteroles were a bit harder than others we've had and underwhelming, but ice cream and chocolate sauce is always a saving grace. Overall, DC has a ton of good food including great French places that may be a better bang for your buck. But La Grande Boucherie is a great spot to impress a date, client, etc. if you're looking for a high end night out, and enjoy a nice steak / French cuisine.

Yelp
During my first visit to La Grande Boucherie I had dinner and it was so good that I knew I had to return to try their brunch. About a week and a half afterwards, I booked a brunch reservation and let me tell you, it was just as good as dinner! The service was just as top tier as it was during my first visit -- our server checked in on a consistent basis and made sure we had what we needed at all times. During my first visit I was seated near the kitchen area, and it wasn't nearly as bad as it could've been, but this time I was seated in a different area and it was just as picturesque and instagrammable as the area near the kitchen but it was more well lit and offered views of outside -- which gave a more brunch vibe! To drink, I tried the PJ Breeze which was a mocktail that included Pineapple, Lemon, Lavender, Mint. This was one of the most refreshing and tasty mocktails I've ever had. For food, I opted for the French Toast which can be found in the menu under Hors D'oeuvres and is named Pain Perdu. I'm not sure why it's not listed under entrees because it's a large portion size and was honestly the main character at the table -- it was too good! I also ordered the Granola which was yogurt with granola and mixed berries and in addition to it being a large portion size, it was really good and filling. Overall, my second visit to La Granda Boucherie was just as amazing as the first visit. We even got a complimentary book of theirs, which we were not expecting nor had even been gifted a book from a restaurant! I highly recommend La Granda Boucherie and plan to return again soon, but this time with a larger group -- I want the masses to experience this restaurant!

Yelp
This place is cute and very date like place. Very grand and fancy. Food isn't as good as the place looks. And the server was very friendly but the service isn't good as expected. (My ice cream got delivered in melted) The place is cute but honestly I don't know if I would come here again for the food. But the beef cappaccio is really good with my sparking brut :)

Yelp
I went here for dinner on Monday night. I haven't been there before so always up to try something new. I was in Paris in May so still have fresh memories of that. I was glad this is a classy place and most people were dressed decent there. First I want to shout out my waiter Justin who did a great job. He wasn't hovering but attentive enough with being there but giving time to eat and make menu decisions. I ordered the Mahi salad and it was large. I like the dressing and venigarette. The salad would be healthy on its own and nice balance of protein and greens. My main course was the steak frites. I had beef bourbignone in Paris so got another top French dish this time and I haven't had fries in awhile. The steak was cooked great and it all tasted good. I ended with dessert and tried something different. It was good but I might try the chocolate flan next time. The service was better than what I had in France and a nicer. The staff looked happy to be there. To end if you can eat here I highly recommend it. A top dining experience. A great date place

Yelp
The restaurant is a repurposed old bank building with a grand entrance with the focal point the staircase which immediately draws your eyes upward. When you reach the top of the stairs you'll notice the geometric gold ceiling with an opulent crystal chandelier. APPETIZERS: Wagyu Carpaccio $32 Truffle mayo, horseradish, capers *If you love wagyu, this had amazing melt in your mouth texture and a great starter to share. LES ESCARGOTS $26 Snails, shallots, lemon, parsley and garlic butter *I have not had snails in awhile, not my favorite dish but we were sharing starters so I gave it a go. ENTREES: CANARD À L'ORANGE $42 Seared duck breast, spring onions, saffron apple *We were not asked for temperature on the duck but it was cooked perfectly and I mean perfect. Every element of the dish complemented each other and each bite was well balanced. I really enjoyed the dish and would order again. Faux-Filet Bercy $78 16 oz dry-aged bone-in NY strips, mashed potatoes, roasted pepper *Beautiful presentation, pre-cut, beautifully charred with a rich, caramelized crust, great marbling and ribbons of fat which added buttery richness to every bite. There were only 2 pieces of steak left which I took home because I didn't want to leave without it! DESSERTS: Boucherie Crème Brûlée $15 Soft and creamy black sesame crème brûlée with Cantonese caramelized black sesame *Really unique flavor profile, probably would not order this again but enjoyed it. Profiteroles $17 Choux craquelin, vanilla ice cream, Valrhona dark chocolate 66% sauce, vanilla Malagasy Chantilly *My favorite part was the chocolate sauce which was thick and glossy with an slight bitterness. SERVICE: Our service was tremendous, helped us select when we couldn't decide between dishes, gave us a taste for our bottle of wine and very attentive throughout our meal. The assistant GM Scott really made our experience unforgettable when he gave us a book and plate. I can't wait to come back - I've already scoped out what I want to try on my next visit. Mussels, Steak Tartare, Wagyu Burger and Filet Mignon Au Poivre and some of their cocktails.

Yelp
Five stars all around! From the moment we entered to the moment we left we had a blast! We celebrated my birthday here and the service was truly remarkable, staff made sure we were seated comfortably. There was live music playing and that was a great addition! Our server Hilmer was great, he checked on us frequently and made sure we got everything we asked for. I got the fillet mignon, and it was delicious, the cut of meat was amazing, I devoured it without even taking a photo. This was one of the best birthday experiences, thanks to the ambiance, the food and the service!

Yelp
Really great experience. Classy Restaurant w outstanding service and great food. Steven, our server was awesome. I'm not familiar w French faire and he made navigating an intimidating menu accessible. Date night w wife and a complimentary dining experience. For appetizer I had Les Escargot and the wife Mussels. I've had escargot before and found this rendition very interesting and delicious. The mussels came in a cream sauce which was greaaattt (channeling my inner Tony the Tiger)! Dinner wife had the special for the evening lamb chop and I opted for the Wagyu burger. Normally I wouldn't order a burger but it was $40 and well I wouldn't normally pay for that and given it was free I did it. The lamb chop was tender and delish. Sitting in a gravy sauce complimented by a bowl of rice which was the best I've ever tasted. The burger didn't disappoint, though a little salty as I made it to the middle it wasn't too salty. Not the best burger I've had but in the top 5. Top 2 if they fix the sodium issue. What's a burger wo fries. They were very good. Dessert we split a cheesecake w chocolate as we were too full to even finish the entree. Lastly, the drinks oh the drinks! I had a couple of their old fashions. W Wild Turkey as the whiskey I was a little concerned but it was very good. A different take on OF. My wife had a spicy margarita and I decided to order one. It was very good. Can adorned w a red hot chilli pepper. Great experience will come again. Great for date night, drinks and apps, or work dinner.

Yelp
My friend and I had dinner at La Grande Boucherie yesterday and I just realized how much I love French food! Let me start off by saying when you enter the restaurant, you receive a welcomed reception and a beautiful backdrop. I love the regal staircase, rich banister, and overall aesthetics; it is an elevated venue with a great design. We felt comfortable in our slightly above casual clothes, however there were people who were dressed up a bit more and some dressed a bit down and everyone looked comfortable and fit in. Our server answered all of questions about the menu which had a good mix of meat, seafood, and vegetables. We started off with two of their cocktails. My friend got a Boucherie Old Fashioned which she liked, and I got the Provence Martini which was light and flavorful. We started off with the Soupe a L'Ogion (French Onion soup) and the Les Moules a la Poulette (mussels); the mussels were so rich and flavorful that I wanted to lick the bowl clean. Haha. Wait, I forgot to mention the fresh warm bread that was served right before our appetizer: I don't know if it was the butter or the bread, but it was heavenly. Onto dinner! I was torn between steak (they had so many options) and the Loup de Mer (branzino) but my friend encouraged me to get the fish. So glad I did because it was the best thing either of us ordered. My friend ordered the Filet de Boeuf which has a flavorful pepper sauce on it. Our portions were healthy so we both had left overs to take home and boy did those come in handy for a late-night snack. We both finished with a glass of Picpoul Blend which our server said was their Saivion Blanc; I loved the taste and texture. Desert to go was the Boucherie Creme Brulee which had an interesting color and texture and the Basque Cheesecake with salted caramel sauce because neither of us had room to eat it there. While waiting on our desert, I visited the restroom and fell in love with the decor. Right before we left, Scott, the Assistant General Manager came over to thank us for our visit. We had a nice chat and felt very welcomed and appreciated. I plan to visit Scott and La Grande Boucherie again soon.

Yelp
La Grande is a large restaurant that I believe is located inside of an old bank. The entrance is captivating and you enter on some beautiful steps. There is a vibrant feeling here with live music, guests in different areas and a beautiful ceiling. This was date night for me so it was important to have a view and good energy. And the service by the waiter delivered that. We were sat on the second floor overlooking the dining area. For dinner we had the filet de bouef, crevettes grillees, Cesar salad, asparagus, escargot, and crème brulee. For drinks we had the La vie en rose and the Boucherie old fashioned. The old fashioned wasn't as strong as I am used to but the La vie was pretty good and I recommend ordering. For dinner, the filet stood out the most, the crevettes had a tasty sauce to accompany the shrimp which I liked. I was not a huge fan of the salad because it lacked some flavor. Always always get potatoes I believe that's a staple alongside steak. Definitely enjoyed the experience and shoutout to the staff for being very observant throughout dinner.

Yelp
Let's start with the good: the interior of the restaurant is truly stunning. High ceilings, gilded trim, a beautiful statue in the middle of the room. The wicker chairs and tables on the main floor look properly Parisian, everything is marble, and there's also plenty of seating on what looked like a mezzanine. This place is vaulted, gorgeous, and grand. Not so great: the food and service. One member of our party told the staff that she had a dairy allergy and was assured they could accommodate it, but after she took one bite of her entree, a waiter swooped in to suddenly remove her plate -- turns out they hadn't removed the dairy after all. She thankfully didn't have an adverse reaction, but it was an alarming oversight. The lunch also dragged on: though we got our orders in quickly, we waited ~45 minutes for the food to come out. Our entrees arrived first, but after my friend's entree got swiped, she waited another 15 minutes for a replacement. They had also forgotten about our two appetizers, which they brought out after we flagged someone down. After we finished the food, we waited for another 30 minutes for the check before I got up and got it myself from a waiter. This was all a bit puzzling, given that we were one of the only parties dining in for lunch at the time. The food was also disappointing, especially given the price point: my $49 steak frites were just fine, and no one seemed particularly impressed with their dishes. Neither the $21 tomato salad nor the $26 tartare were particularly flavorful, either. Our still and sparkling waters alone came out to $16. Ultimately, we paid over $320 (after tax and tip) for water, 3 glasses of wine, 3 entrees, 2 appetizers, and an allergy scare. Though the restaurant itself is beautiful, it seems like they have quite a few kinks to work out still -- I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

Yelp
Our date to La Grande Boucherie was wonderful. The exterior of the restaurant perfectly hints at the amazing experience awaiting inside. Service: Our waitress, Stephanie, was the sweetest and provided excellent recommendations. Despite having numerous tables, she ensured each one received attentive care. Ambiance: There was a live saxophonist, adding a great touch to the ambiance. When his performance ended, the musical selection remained enjoyable, and we even Shazammed a song or two. Seating: The guy behind me kept bumping my chair, which was annoying. The tables seemed a bit too close together, and ours was so small that we couldn't fit everything on it. I wasn't sure what he expected me to do--move, perhaps? He also gave the waitstaff a hard time, seemingly dissatisfied with everything he ordered. Despite the table situation being the only uncomfortable part, our excellent service, delicious food, and wonderful ambiance more than made up for it. Appetizers/Hors d'oeuvres: We had the escargot and the mussels. First of all, no one told me escargot was so tasty! It was served in a pesto sauce, and Stephanie recommended dipping the bread in it afterward, which was delicious. I'm not a fan of mussels, but my date enjoyed them. I tried a few, and they were okay. Main Course/Entrée: We both had the filet mignon au poivre, cooked differently for each of us, and both were marvelous. I'm running out of adjectives to describe our experience! Dessert: My date said the cheesecake was amazing, with the topping making it even better. My Crème Brûlée was fantastic. I chose the regular Crème Brûlée instead of the Boucherie version because I'm particular about my Crème Brûlée. Overall, La Grande Boucherie is a 5-star restaurant. I plan to make a video of our experience and post it on my Instagram @MyGoalCoach because it was simply amazing.

Yelp
My experience at La Grande Boucherie was nothing short of phenomenal. Upon entering the restaurant, I was awestruck by its design--the red carpet stairway leads your eyes upward to a golden ceiling, and once you're atop the stairs with a full view of the restaurant, you can't help but feel transported to Paris. In DC, whether downtown or otherwise, you won't find any restaurant as "grande". My partner and I started with the Provençal mocktail--rarely do I have mocktails that truly taste like their alcoholic counterparts. It was refreshing and not too sweet, and the bitterness of the grapefruit made me think I was sipping something boozy. For appetizers, we had the tomato salad and mussels, both stellar recommendations by our server. The tomato salad is an excellent choice for a summery, lighter option (but also of an impressive portion size), and the mussels are a great French classic... so much so that I had a hard time restraining myself from dipping the entire basket of bread in its broth. For entrees, we had the steak frites and roasted salmon. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection as was the salmon. It's hard to get those char lines and a crispy exterior without overcooking the fish, yet it flaked with just my fork. I loved the pairing with the asparagus and the creamed corn! For dessert, we had a passion fruit sorbet (sweet and tangy, tasting almost like mango) and pistachio ice cream. The pistachio ice cream was a surprising showstopper--mildly sweet, full of pistachio flavor, and sinfully creamy... La Grande Boucherie isn't just my new go-to downtown restaurant, it's my new favorite ice cream spot!

Yelp
Came to La Grande Boucherie for a weeknight dinner and absolutely loved it! A special thank you to Ronald, who guided us through the menu and offered personalized recommendations throughout our meal, and overall gave us a warm welcome to the restaurant! All of the staff were incredibly kind. The ambience here is hard to beat. When it comes to upscale restaurants, DC has quite a few, but none have an interior like this. Beautiful red carpet stairs take you up to the restaurant, where you can see the incredibly detailed gold ceilings. We started off with drinks, and tried the La Vie En Rose and Mayans Punch. I can definitely see why the first one is considered a fan favorite, but the Mayans Punch is great if you like a little spice in your drink. The mussels appetizer was quite delicious as well. It was also a great portion given that it was an appetizer. However the best part of the meal had to be the scallops! These were some of the best scallops that I have ever had. Lastly, I definitely recommend the creme brûlée for dessert, you cannot go wrong with it. I will be back here in the future.

Yelp
Ambiance: Dress to impress. Business casual. I wore a cute knee length dress and felt comfortable. Service: Hilmer was our server and he did an excellent job helping us have a delicious experience. He definitely made this experience worth our wild. I feel like we would be friends in real life. Haha. Food: Complimentary bread and butter: So tasty. I had to slow down to not be full for my meal Drink: PJ Breeze (with Don Julio) - Delicious . Taste like a fresh mojito and I LOVE a good mojito. La Vie en Rose - someone will love this drink - just not me. Not sweet enough for me. Switched out for a tequila mule that I appreciated. Mayan Punch: Don't hate it. Don't love it. A little spice which is nice. Old Fashion: husband rated drink 8/10. If you love Mezcal you will love this. So it's definitely a play on a traditional old fashion. Appetizer: Tartare de Thon et Avocat - tasty but the avocado threw me off so I ended up removing it and it was so much better. I also added the grapefruit on the top and it definitely made a difference in a positive way. All it needs is something with a crunch. Les Moules a La poulette - I am not a fan of mussels but this was super good. It was definitely the sauce that made all the difference. My husband gave it a 10 and he's super picky. Main dish: Crevettes Grillees: Shrimp is okay. Definitely does not need the sauce it comes with. Ordered the mushrooms instead of the asparagus and it was delicious. Filet Mignon: The mashed potatoes it comes with is absolutely delicious. The peppered sauce is good but the steak itself definitely needs salt even if it's on the side. Dessert: Creme Brûlée - 8/10. In my opinion if this had ice cream, it would be perfect. Paris - Brest - not a fan. The bread/bagel at the top is not needed and all you taste is hazelnut.
