La grande georgette

During my visit to Reims, I had the pleasure of dining at La Grande Georgette and enjoying the 6 course menu plus a wine pairing. Food: Traditional of a coursed dinner , there were a few surprises of course! The carotes trois fois were delicious and a fun way to start the meal. I didn’t love the sea bass (I just prefer it poached, grilling it can render it too tough). The scallop dish was a rival to the veal for my favorite of the night. It was incredibly diverse in its flavor profile, a beautiful array of color and ingredients that allowed for a new bite every time. The pollock was delightful. Veal- incroyable, the sauce was delicate and not overly powerful like a traditional bordelaise. Finishing with sweets is always a treat. Service here was impeccable, I have no complaints. The servers are very attentive , provided an excellent wine pairing and thorough explanations of the dishes. Wine: of course they had an extensive list of champagne houses, and several other varietals. I dined alone so I chose to go with the wine pairing but one could certainly dive deep into several bottles with a group! I certainly recommend giving this a try if you’re in town for dinner !

We enjoyed the six course tasting! It was very relaxed, not rushed. Staff were very attentive. Beautiful view of the Notre-Dame cathedral. Really liked the oyster chicken dish which was only on the tasting menu. Least favorite was the lobster ravioli.

Great dinner at La Grande Georgette with polished, attentive service. The dishes were well-prepared and flavorful, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. A wonderful choice for a relaxed yet elevated meal. Make a reservation to ensure a table.

We’ve dined here several times over the years, and our most recent visit this week was exceptional. The food was inventive, with traditional French inspirations. We also enjoyed the sommelier's elevated wine pairing. We highly recommend!

Meal to celebrate our honeymoon, which was just perfect. It has a relaxed ambience which isn’t overly formal and was really comfortable. The service and the food were outstanding and the tasting menu with wine pairings was incredible. However, the pièce de résistance was the view of the Notre-Dame cathedral which is spectacularly lit after sunset. Expensive, yes, but well worth it for a special occasion. Highly recommended!

I wanted to love this place. It’s in an almost incomparable location overlooking Notre Dame Reims. It has an open kitchen which is especially interesting for a sole diner. I ordered the tasting menu. It started out phenomenally well with the best hummus I have ever tasted. It was perfectly balanced and tasty without being overpowering. The amuse bouche was interesting enough. 2 were slightly over seasoned and one a bit bland. All completely fine. Then came the asparagus. The sauce was a tad heavy but easily forgiven because they were the most perfectly cooked asparagus I have ever had. These were flavorful without being overpowering. My mouth still watering from these bits of perfection. Then things went poorly. There was this supposed seafood dish. I think they threw all the leftover seafood from the night prior, added gelatin and milk and threw it in the blender. The result was an aberration. It was a jello that tasted like old seafood. Even the vegetables that were included were too bitter and inedible. That went back almost untouched with no comment from the serving or kitchen staff. The protein was a pork. It was tasty and perfectly cooked, without too much fat. The only issue with it was a white radish disguised as a potato that was deeply offensive, but purely a matter of personal preference. Dessert was a boring stack of sweet things that looked great but were … well, boring and relatively flavorless. The best past was a disappearing foam (because it melted so quickly). The wine pairings were uninspiring and in some cases downright odd. All in all, I might come back and not order the tasting menu. A disappointment overall.

The restaurant is located just in front of the Cathedral so the view is amazing and stunning if you sit by the window or outside. We ordered the lunch course and found that the presentation was attractive but the flavor profile was quite normal and some textures in the combination were just not right. However, the staffs were very nice and attentive.

Excellent lunch at our hotel the La Caserne Chanzy . Normally fully booked but we got lucky. Of course an excellent Champagne list but good wine as well. Even a 2016 mersaullt by the glass. It's right next to the Cathedral. We stayed at the hotel , did the spa , which are outstanding, but had to be one of the more memorable'hotel' restaurants I have eaten at other than the Michelin *** restaurants that are sometimes associated with ***** grand hotels here. The house champagne, poured from a Jeroboam is outstanding. We did not do dessert. The menu , entree and plat with two amuse bouches and bread was enough!

This review includes lunch and dinner on the same day . Lunch was a 2 star for service but 5 for food, but dinner was 5 stars. Apologies for the length of the review. Came for lunch booked by our travel agent for 12:00 as part of our France wine tour. It is located across the cathedral and is part of a Marriott Autograph collection hotel. The ambiance is on the casual side. The servers' English is limited and the menu translations not quite accurate. The kitchen is in partial view of the seating area which adds a bit of entertainment. It is fascinating to watch the chefs work their magic in a perfectly choreographed dance. They barely talk as they work but everyone knows what to do and what each plate needs. As with most nice restaurants in France, the menu is limited. There are 2 price fixed menus which include a combination of a la carte items which is way more cost effective. The wine list is generous. We were a party of 6 but we were not all hungry so we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 desserts and a few glasses of champagne being that were in fact, in Champagne. The food was amazing, the presentation very pretty the servers were not very pleasant but not rude either. None of the restaurants we went to give you a bread plate, you just put it directly on the table and you have to ask for butter. We liked the food so much that decided to return for dinner and asked to see the dinner menu and make a reservation. The dinner menu and portions are identical to lunch except the prices are higher. The waitress got the lady in charge who asked us not very sweetly IF WE WERE ALL GOING TO EAT AT DINNER. We were confused by the question so she asked if all of us would be actually ordering dinner or appetizers and if just a few would be eating like we had just done. At this point we should've left or pointed out the multiple empty tables at the peak of lunch time and the fact that at least we ordered something as opposed to having an empty table. But we were so impressed by the quality and taste of the food that we ignored the comment and made the reservation any way. For dinner we requested a table by the window with a view of the cathedral. Dinner was a completely different experience. Same servers and chefs but the food is delicious and the presentation very elegant. One server spoke better English and he ended up taking over our table. We paired our dinner with a bottle of champagne. Some of us ordered the price fixed menu and some a la carte. Every dish was exceptional, served hot and everyone's dish came at the same time. We all ordered an appetizer, main, dessert, the bottle of champagne (maybe 2 bottles) and some coffees and the check came out to about 135€ per couple. The cathedral was lit up which added a beautiful view to complement dinner. The hotel concierge called a taxi for us to return to our hotel. I am making a point to mention the restrooms which were very clean but most importantly accessible and roomy. We were traveling with my older parents with mobility issues and most bathrooms are tiny, tight and not very easy to get to. There are stairs but also an elevator to access the restrooms. On a negative note, it was raining and our umbrellas got stolen from the umbrella stand. I would definitely return despite some of the negative experiences there. The food is 100% worth it.
