I'm not one of the cool kids who live inside the loop and have been to all the bars and restaurants in the Montrose area. So when a friend of mine decided to hold an event at this location, I was more than happy to check the place out. I didn't even bother trying to read about what this place had to offer.
I arrived here kind of early on a Saturday evening. Around 6:30. There was a few open parking spots in their private lot when I got in, but if you get here pretty late, you'd probably have to try and find street parking along Dunlavy and take a short walk to the restaurant.
We had a huge group. I don't recall the number of people who showed up, but I think it was around 30. We had a few long tables reserved for our group and a couple of waitresses were assigned to our tables.
As expected with any big groups, service would be kind of slow. This restaurant was no exception. Although my waitress was super friendly, it was pretty hard to get anything just because she was always going around, and always in and out the back. One downside was after I had arrived and I was sitting at one end of the table, she took orders from the other end of the table and didn't come to my side. Which means, I had to wait until she came back out before I could place my order.
I decided to try the white queso since everyone seemed to be raving about it. I added brisket to my queso, because 'Murica! And I also ordered a plate of enchilada just because I was hungry. The Queso WAS good, one of the better ones I've had. However, I thought the enchilada was just okay. The cheese on my enchilada was all dried up and although it tasted decent, It just didn't have the wow factor.
Another thing that I kinda irked me was the fact that my water wouldn't get filled up UNLESS I asked for it. In my opinion, no matter how big a group you're serving, someone needs to fill up the water glasses. If the waitresses are too busy, send out the buses. Also for one reason or another, there was a La Grange burger on the table that nobody ordered and it was just sitting there. I thought about eating it, but then again, I had enchilada and queso so I decided against it.
For a Tex-Mex restaurant, this place was more like a bar to me where good looking people would come here for a quick bite before going out so a lot of people were dressed up. There were definitely some eye candies in the restaurant.
The restaurant also has a pretty big patio, dart boards, and a shuffleboard; so yeah, more like a bar instead of a restaurant. I'll be back, for the views, the queso, and the drinks. But definitely not the enchilada.
