Where to Find Prime Peruvian Cuisine Across the DMV | Eater DC

"Flavorful seafood dishes are the specialty at this festive, family friendly restaurant, which hosts live bands Friday and Saturday nights. Choose from seafood fried rice, sautéed shrimp or grilled plank salmon. Incidentally, there’s an Adams Morgan restaurant of the same name (which translates as golden farm) that’s not affiliated with the NoVa venue." - Julekha Dash

Google
First time here. 4 stars because the servers attitude was a little rude but everything was great. It's an expensive restaurant but the portions were very big. Too much seafood and not enough different options either. We aren't sure we are coming back.

Steven Rojas

Google
Not sure why but the menu said $2.95 for each Alfajore, I went today and the woman behind the register charged me $3.50. I don’t recommend this restaurant as they charge you a different price as the menu said.

Tamera Selhaver

Google
Always great food! We stop whenever we're in the area. Shrimp dishes were perfect as were the pollo and lomo saltado. Restaurant looks deceiving from the sub-par area it sits in but inside is nicely decorated and clean. Can't wait to return!

Google
La Granja De Oro is truly a hidden gem that deserves all the praise it gets. Tucked away and unassuming from the outside, this Peruvian restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with the warmest welcome by an incredible and friendly staff who make you feel right at home. Dining with my wife, infant daughter, and friends during a busy weekend lunch, I was impressed by how accommodating and attentive the team was, even with the bustling crowd. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, making it a perfect spot for family gatherings or meals with friends. The star of the show, of course, is the food. Every dish we tried was exceptional, but the ceviche deserves a special mention. It was incredibly fresh and bursting with vibrant flavors, showcasing the best of Peruvian cuisine. Every bite was a testament to the care and authenticity that goes into their cooking. La Granja De Oro has truly left a lasting impression on me, and I can't wait to visit again for another culinary adventure. This place is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food and warm hospitality.

Google
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the lomo saltado at La Granja de Oro. The fries were soggy and overly salty, and the overall quality of the food was disappointing. Not a place I’d return to for this dish

Patrick Rocha

Google
Fantastic Peruvian restaurant. We had a lomo soltado and anticuchos. Also had some chicha. Everything was really good, and by good I mean exceptional! We've been to countless Peruvian restaurants all over the United States, and although some have been good, we always compare them to Granja De Oro as the standard for quality Peruvian food. The portions are very well sized

Google
Ok so this was a let’s stop here kind of place, but WOW, what a gem of a find! The good is amazing, tasty and so pride friendly. The portions are very big, you can devour it all or save some for your next meal. We both ordered the Lomo Saltado which is a typical Peruvian dish, and this was so dang good. We are definitely coming back and would recommend this place to anyone. The staff and owner are always present and so friendly in taking care of you and giving great suggestions if your torn between dishes. 5 stars!

Maria Flores

Google
Great dining experience! The food quality, price, and service were all fantastic. We started with a soup of the day and a shrimp soup, and the shrimp soup was definitely our favorite. When we asked for entree recommendations, the lovely lady taking care of us suggested the Lomo salteado and mariscos salteados, and they were both absolutely delicious. We've been to various Peruvian restaurants, but this one has quickly become our new favorite. The food was so authentic and flavorful. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert, but we can't wait to come back and try the options. Overall, the food and our waitress were outstanding, and we left feeling very satisfied with her service. Everything was so good that I completely forgot to take more photos!

Yelp
This place will always be a classic. Good music, good food, good service. Try the lomo saltado, it never disappoints!

Yelp
First time to a Peruvian Resturant with an extensive menu. Prior to this I've only been to Peruvian chicken resturants. We got 1. ceviche de pescado, 7. Lomo saltado, 1/4 pollo a la brasa with yuca frita and everything was good. I kinda wish we tried the beef hearts, but maybe next time!

Yelp
Amazing Peruvian food. This place has plenty of seating and great service. Make sure you come here with an appetite otherwise you'll be leaving with plenty of leftovers (which is a good thing in my book). Their plates come with heavy portions and are definitely worth the price. Some dishes I believe you could split between two or more people. I've come here with my family and friends multiple times because their food is delicious. My go to is always the cau cau a la criolla because it's one of the few places that serves it. It's always seasoned perfectly and the texture is amazing. I've also tried their lomo saltado and jalea de mariscos which don't disappoint either. Every dish comes out with so much flavour. Their horchata is perfectly sweet as well. It might be overwhelming at first since they have a lot of options on their menu, but trust me anything you pick will be good.

Yelp
Great food, great service. The Lomo Saltado was rich and flavorful and even the white rice it came with was better than standard white rice. The Palta A La Reina was also great - a homemade chicken salad with an entire avocado and lettuce. Presentation was great too.

Yelp
I've been coming here for as long as I can remember! It's always so nostalgic. The food is delicious and it comes out pretty fast. Unfortunately due to Covid they have their salad bar closed-hoping that in the future it can be opened again but for now I understand the safety measures they are taking. Our waitress was great, she's been working there for over 10 years! Everyone is very friendly and attentive, they are always willing to fulfill any request. P.S during the weekends they have a DJ! Ambience goes from dinner casual to party time

Daniel B.

Yelp
Excellent service and food I come 2 time for months Lomo saltado pollo saltado horchata is the best

David G.

Yelp
When you enter La Granja De Oro you feel at home. The waiters treat you like family not a customer. The steak is great and reasonably priced. While the papa rellenáis something to talk about.

Xiomara P.

Yelp
We've ordered from this place for various parties and it's delicious and the amount of lomo saltado you get is great, but I ordered for Christmas Eve dinner and it was a disaster. The quality of food was not good, it lacked so much flavor, and the meat was hard and seemed burnt. I was so disappointed because it was a special night of course. Not sure if they had a lot of orders for that day and just couldn't keep up with the demand, but it was disappointing.

Yelp
Food was just fine, they dont speak English very well. Weirdly, my card got couple of fraud after I use it here. Beware.
google avatar

Yelp
This was catered for my work. This was delicious. The flavors were powerful and rich. The Lomo Saltado, now that was a dish for the ages. The rolls, funnily enough, might be the best I have ever had of breads. I've never been to Peru, but if the food tastes like this, I've got to book a flight!
google avatar

Yelp
I came to use the 15% off that yelp had offered when checking in and the restaurant turned it down. Really not happy with the false advertising.

Dave, Lily S.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from this place couple times and we had some bad experiences but tonight was the worst. I don't know if it's because it's monday, but we ordered couple dishes, the whole chicken was so dry, no flavor and pink on in the inside. The Lomo Saltado was so dry chewy meat & no flavor. The Steak & Cheese was so much cheap cheese inside with less meat and the bread was so soggy, the yucca fries was so hard like a rock that we couldn't even chew on it. It was such a dissappointment, we spent like 80 bucks and it went all in the trash! I don't recommend this place, save your money and go to Pisco Y Nazca in Dc!
google avatar

Yelp
Lomo Saltado is THE BEST here! My partner and I picked up here 2 weekends in a row cause we loveeeeee it. Absolutely great service too, though when you walk in you gotta get someone's attention if they're busy. Will definitely continue to Order from here! Insta @ SpicyAivy

Yelp
We have been going here for last 15 years. Authentic Peruvian cuisine. Service is always good. Many choices of entrees. This place is a local landmark!

Yelp
Excellent seafood meals. The dishes are plentiful and delicious. Family oriented atmosphere with excellent service. Definitely warranted more return visits.

Yelp
Best Peruvian food in the area. I have been frequenting this restaurant for over 20 years and their food quality is consistent. Their portion sizes are quite large and pretty much everything on the menu is good. Some of my top dishes include the lomo saltado, churrasco a la cubana, papas a la huancaína, and the chupe de camarones. The white rice that comes with most of their dishes has a hint of garlic that always leaves you wanting more. La Granja de Oro has a very traditional vibe, don't expect fancy cocktails but I must say their pisco sours are good.
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
Having no experience with Peruvian food culture, I was pleasantly surprised with the offerings here. Our family tried the seafood dish, the shrimp dish and the beef dish. All of which I cannot pronounced but tried anyway. They were ALL very good. Tasty, hot, with just the right amount of spice. But, the star of the evening was their Chimichuri. We put that delicious green, spicy sauce on everything and it made good food taste great! Don't let the traffic or the outside appearance throw you off. It might look like a Pizza Hut from the outside, but the food and the service is anything but pedestrian. Try it.

Yelp
I got the ceviche mixto to go and wow it was phenomenal! I was craving ceviche after going to Mexico but the Peruvian ceviche was great. Only bad thing about this place is it closes early. Otherwise pick up and called and ordering was very easy. It tastes fresh and got a neat kick to it. Very nice

Yelp
This is my second visit to this quaint place, nice mixed atmosphere Latin & American, with woven tablecloths from South America (covered with glass) and pop American music from the 70's... and reasonable prices. Nice quick greeting, fast table, great service... I knew I wanted the "Chupe de Camarones" and the "Chicha Morada". The Chupe comes in two sizes, generous and again I chose the small, enough for an adult with normal appetite. To my taste is a little bit salty but for most of the people it will be just fine so don't hesitate to order it. The "Chupe de Camarones" usually has just a little amount of rice (the original recipe is like that) and you will not see (but you will taste) a subtle flavor of Huacatay, the very special Peruvian herb. - I missed the corn on the cobb, some more cream, some exotic beans ("habas") and some cheese but this "Chupe de Camarones" was full of flavor, aroma and color. I would like to have at least two or three more shrimps (there were exactly six (6) in my dish). The "Chicha Morada" is addictive and refreshing and I suggest the restaurant to make sure is cold enough, the liquid and the glass as the Chicha Morada should always be very cold. I am not Peruvian and I am not sure if this one here is done totally with the famous purple corn from South America but anyway it was tasty. - I also tried the "Camarones al Ajillo", good flavor, perfectly cooked, (I can tell they were checking the cooking time to avoid the rubbery texture!) it's a perfect amount for one person.... And a "Flan" is always nice, not extraordinary but cool and delicious because you can tell is done here from scratch and the caramel is perfect, never burnt.... I will be back to try more dishes...!

R S.

Yelp
Staff was accommodating to non-Spanish speakers. Food was memorable. Atmosphere was warm, with many families filling the tables. Anticuchos de corazon were fabulous. The green sauce dip is addictive. Ceviche was good but the fish was not named, so they could be using sweet-water fish like tilapia instead of proper salt-water fish. Definitely worth a visit for a comfortable dinner out.

Yelp
We have been coming to this place for years and unfortunately, now it is going down the hill. Awful service and extremely overpriced tasteless food. Furthermore, we were told not to come back by the owner when we tried to let him know how bad his food was, we were not even asking for a refund, extremely rude and totally bad way of doing business. My husband even got a really bad food poisoning from the old or frozen seafood, the steaks are dry and felt like I was eating a piece of cardboard. I'm only giving a one star because there is nothing lower than that. Needless to say, we are never coming back. Stay away from there people!

Yelp
This place is amazing and delicious highly recommend coming with the family. Drinks amazing also chicha morada is amazing

Yelp
The food here never disappoints, this is my wife's & I favorite spot to come to when we are really hungry lol the owners are always present checking up on you to make sure you are doing okay, the employees are so friendly & attentive. The place is always nice & clean, the tables are set up beautifully, & the den area is just a cherry on top, real romantic. Overall I always have a great experience when I come here & I will continue to be a loyal customer.

Yelp
Best Peruvian food hands down, authentic, large portions, worth the $$$, never had bad service, the green sauce is to die for. I legit can't say 1 bad thing about this place, GO, RUN! GO eat here

Yelp
Didn't realize I hadn't reviewed this yet, we've been coming here on and off for years. Definitely a go-to spot for Peruvians. I'm personally not super in love with the food, but what you get for the price is well worth it. We get the lomo saltado, jalea (fried seafood), and arroz con marisco. I'm not a fan of the ceviche really but everything else is good. Great for big groups and families. The chicha morada (the purple corn drink) is probably my favorite here, it's not too thick or syrupy.

Mateo G.

Yelp
Just four words Jalea a La Chalaca. Incredibly reasonable price for a big platter for two. Please do yourself a favor and visit this locale. It's been a favorite for many years and has outlasted other Peruvian locales for a reason. While I don't go for other foods in the restaurant I can guarantee both Jalea and Ceviche make for an amazing experience.

Martha O.

Yelp
completely disappointed on the service which it didn't happen before as I always used to order from the. find a new location the salad was missing they overcharge for the sauce completely horrible experience

Yelp
Rude service. I came with a party of three. We ordered an app, 3 entrees and desserts. Throughout the meal my server kept giving us a heads up that she might ask is to move to make room for a larger party that had not shown up yet. Throughout our meal, she kept rushing us. She seemed more interested in getting us out of her way. She seemed annoyed when we asked for dessert, dropped the check as soon as we were done--she was clearing plates...reaching for unfinished beverages and even the sugar packets. We were there at most, an hour. She comes over and says she would like to relocate us, when we ask to which table--she cannot seem to come up with a table. I finally explain that I understand she wants us to leave, to give us 5 minutes and we will be outta there. She explains she meant no offense, and yet she did. We tipped above 20% for our mediocre meal. About the Meals The only noteworthy items we had were the lomo saltado and chupe de camaron. We also ordered ají de gallina (there was no ají or discernible flavor) and the camarones en ajo (which lacked any meaningful ajo) The bread was stale. The salad bar was bare. The flan tasted of imitation vanilla--you know...that alcohol after taste. I've given credit for the lomo and the chupe de camarones--and I'm being generous given my experience. I recommend not coming on a Friday. I was actually scoping the place out to see if it would be a suitable venue for an upcoming party. It is not and I will not be back. There are way too many other options for Peruvian to waste time or money at Granja.
google avatar

Karen R.

Yelp
I love this restaurant but this time I ordered a pollo Saltado and they used chicken thighs instead of chicken breast. I came here a while ago and I remember chicken breast pieces being used in the dish. The chicken was fatty since it's from the thigh and I couldn't eat it. Wanted to send it back but the waitress didn't let me. She swapped it for a limo saltado but I didn't want that. Took it to go anyways.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
Wonderful Peruvian good. Huge portions that are shareable. Nice service. Recommend for families.

Lucia T.

Yelp
We got food from La Granja De Oro for the first time. We did not sit inside their restaurant because we want to play safe with covid and all. We ate in our car in their parking lot. My husband ordered half rotisserie chicken that comes with yuca chips. He liked the yuca, he said it was delicious. Unfortunately we cannot say the same about the chicken, the chicken was so dry, like it is old. As for me, I ordered lomo saltado, I read from the reviews that this place makes good lomo saltado, so I tried it. I liked it. It was very tasty and the beef was tender. Our orders also came with salad, we did not eat the salad because the lettuce in it were turning brown on the edges already. The total of our 2 orders with one drink was $30.+ Will I recommend or get food again from La Granja De Oro? NO, because not all the food they serve are fresh.
google avatar

Mister H B.

Yelp
Good food but a bit pricey! Specially in this economy! Average entry, drink and dessert would run you about $ 35+ per person.

Kehlan Z.

Yelp
Get the Peruvian chicken all the time to go or delivered- it's the best in area. Even the side salad is better then most with actual cucumbers and tomato & a nice side dressing. Rice and sauces good too.
google avatar

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Love the food here! I was in VA for business and started googling places that offered Latin music and happy hours. We found this place and decided to give it a try. Their shrimp soup was amazingly good. I have never had supo like this and it was full of shrimp and vegetables. The bistec solteado was really, really good. The meat was tender and tasty and portion size are enough for two people. The only recommendation that I is that I would use thinner fries rather than steak fries for the solteado. Let me not forget that's their prices for a drink a reasonable

Alexander B.

Yelp
Subpar experience. Ceviche was very salty. Waitress asked if we were ready to order immediately after we sat down (???). Then two servers seemed confused about who was serving out table. Meh.
google avatar

Kateland R.

Yelp
Great authentic Peruvian food! The portions are HUGE and reasonably priced. Very affordable. You can order few dishes and share them then even have some for leftovers. That is how big the portions are! The food is also delicious. I ordered the steak and pesto pasta (dish name was in Spanish, but it started with a T), and the steak was cooked perfectly along with the pasta! It was also pretty busy, so I could tell the place served good food! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Joseph R.

Yelp
I ordered the Ceviche de Pescado as an appetizer. It was very fresh and tasty. I then ordered Jalea Mixta. It was hot when It arrived at our table. The breading on the seafood was light and delicious. Accompanied by a nice glass of Chicha Morada. The service was fast and efficient. The servers were polite and attentive. I highly recommend this place for tasty Peruvian cuisine.

Yelp
Remember those old school Chinese restaurants in the '90s with the pink tablecloths, white napkins, and crystal water goblets? La Granja de Oro totally reminded me of this, only with a Peruvian feel. The atmosphere was warm and friendly with lots of smiles from all the waiters. Our table was flocked with a bright and colorful tapestry and we got hot bread, butter, and green sauce (oh the green sauce!!) immediately after ordering. They have a very basic salad bar that is free with every entree so you can get your green on. It's nothing exciting but you can definitely get your fill of iceberg lettuce, red onions, cucumbers, carrots, chick peas, green peppers and canned beets if you would like. The cold weather had me feeling quite lumberjack-ish so I went with the lomo saltado which was basically strips of beef sauteed in onions and french fries, and then covered in gravy, with some rice on the side. It was hearty and filling, perfect for a winter day. I liked it but not as much as my husband who convinced me to trade dishes with him about three bites into my meal. As others have mentioned the white rice here is very, very good. Is it butter? or garlic? Or witchcraft? I'm not quite sure but definitely worth that extra carbs. Overall a nice, casual family restaurant perfect for gatherings of hungry people.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Muy mal servicio nada amables pésima la persona que me atendió como yo llevaba a mi bebe que no tenía espacio donde ponerlo como que fuera cualquier cosa y es un bebe no es cualquier cosa

K M.

Yelp
I called for a carryout order and requested food not to be packed in Styrofoam container. The person who answered the call asked me if a plastic container was ok. The restaurant ended up putting the chicken only into the plastic container, but still put hot fries and plantains into Styrofoam containers. After driving in the rain for over an hour, I got home and the fries and the plantains melted the Styrofoam and I could not eat either of the side items due the risk of ingesting melted plastic in my food. I called the restaurant to tell them what happened, but the lady on the phone got upset, starting raising her voice at me, and proceeded to tell me how she has been in business for 30 years and its never been an issue. She asked me to send her the pictures, but she never wrote or responded back. I feel this was wrong to tell the customer they were going to use plastic containers to gain business, this is dishonest. This is why restaurants should not use Styrofoam [https://becauseturtleseatplasticbags.com/styrofoam-and-polystyrene-containers-are-poisoning-your-food-part-2/] I will not return to this establishment for their poor customer service to gain $$.

Yelp
My first impresión from the outside was not very good, but as soon as I walked in, I could see that the place was cleaned and neat. The host was very nice. My female server didn't show to much personality. I ordered the "causa de camarón" ... it was delicious!!! Is a "must" if you are a sea food lover. I order the "trucha frita" fried trout. If you grow eating it and know how to eat it , go for it! It was very tasty and the porción was generous. I'm looking forward to come back!

Yelp
hands down the best Peruvian restaurant in the DMV! the flavor is always there and the food is always consistently good & the pricing is reasonable! Love, love this!

Yelp
Definitely coming back! Really enjoyed the ceviche and the lomo saltado. I didn't take a photo of the ceviche. Great customer service!

Yelp
I would really like to give this place 4 stars...but I have to give it 3 because when I came to have dinner with my family they ran out of peruvian chicken...really? How does a place that sells that much run out? So I was highly disappointed. But to make up for it the chiccharons con yuca tasted fabulous. Must have been that green sauce that they have.I have no idea whats in it other then cilantro, jalapeno and onions and maybe some other spices but its the best sauce ever. It's probably the biggest reason I return. The pork had a nice crisp to it even though there was hardly any fat on the pork it was tender and juicy. The yuca was nice and crunchy. I was expecting more of a paste/ mash instead. But fried yuca is always fine with me. My dad always orders the same thing which is there lomo saltado which he says taste pretty darn good. Overall This place does have amazing peruvian chicken and I wish that I had gotten some my last visit but I will be returning regardless.

Yelp
Omg!! Came here for dinner last week after visiting a coworker (the one who recommended this restaurant) and while I wasn't sure what to expect my mind was blown! the food here was delicious, service was very attentive and the food came out of the kitchen so quick!! The menu was a decent sized and I had trouble deciding what I wanted, but decided I'll just go back to try all the things I want. Omg... a fried egg in my steak!! Best thing ever! Next time I'm going to ask for two because one just isn't enough! The only downside was the green sauce they brought with the bread; it was soooo salty! Like someone accidentally knocked over the salt shaker and it fell into the sauce. I asked my coworker about it later and they said that wasn't the norm so next time I go back I'll update on the green sauce. Pro tip: stay away from the included all you can eat salad bar, it looks a little dangerous and just had iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, beans, beats and three salad dressings. As a rule I stay away from any food that has been left out for an extended period of time.... but if you're into that sort of thing good luck!! To each their own. I can't wait to come back here, the place is HUGE inside and we saw at least four birthday parties roll in. This may be my new birthday jam!!!

Yelp
Having been to Cusco, Peru about 3 years ago, I had a craving for Peruvian food recently. Not just the standard "Peruvian chicken," mind you. I read about this place on Yelp and was curious to try it for myself. I found this place without too much trouble from Annandale Road. The restaurant appeared clean and relatively spacious and had a small stage up front that was equipped with a drum set. However, every table except for two was vacant (my friend was at one of the two occupied tables waiting for me). After the other table of diners left, it was just my friend and I during the entire rest of our visit. Where was everyone else? I attributed it to the fact that it was a week night and the weather was pretty dreary and rainy out. Weren't it for the dreary weather and the positive yelp reviews, I would've otherwise been more skeptical about eating at a place that was nearly completely empty during dinner hour. Thankfully, though the weather didn't humor us, the food delivered. There were a lot of other tasty-sounding selections, but we both went for the lomo saltado. Very generous portion size and tasty. We also tried the tres leches cake, which was also not to sweet (which I appreciate) and appealing to the taste buds. As some other reviews mentioned, there's also a small salad bar on one side of the restaurant. We were told that was included with our entrees. It had maybe about a dozen selections - lettuce, corn, etc., and three types of salad dressing. Nothing fancy. Overall, I really enjoyed my lomo saltado's flavor and portion size, and I'd like to come back to sample other things on the menu. A larger assortment of things in the salad bar might be nice, but still, a good visit.

Yelp
We were warmly greeted and promptly seated, plenty of empty tables when we arrived for an early dinner at 4pm. Faux leather menus which were rather sticky to touch (whew). I had the churrasco ala cubana which is a 10oz new york steak topped with a sunny side and served with sides of rice and plantain. Tasted ok a bit too salty for my taste. I showed them my yelp 15% off for 1st time check in but the server was looking at me like I have an extra eye on my forehead. She later cleared in with someone else over the phone which was great.

Yelp
Why are all the options here so expensive?! I came here for lunch with some co workers and unfortunately the machine for the Peruvian chicken was down. Since there were almost no pictures of the sandwiches, i decided to get an entree. Here's where i don't understand how they came up with this menu: In the entree section, i don't believe i saw anything under $14.95...or was it $15.95... anyways the point is that everything was SO over priced. I understand you have a "AYCE" salad bar.. but who is going there for salad?! i got the Lomito Al Vino. When the dish came it looked very unappetizing. Cubes of steak with a grayish/brownish gravy looking sauce, 2 halves of potato and some rice. The wine sauce was very strong, they definitely need to cook the wine out more cause that is all you can really taste. In addition, I don't believe it was solely the wine sauce but there was a sourness to the taste..not sure what it was but it was not pleasant. The steak was "tender" but it felt more mushy rather than a melt in your mouth feel. Would not recommend and will not be returning
