"Walk into the courtyard of La Grenadine, shaded by pomegranate, guava, avocado, and olive trees, and it’s as though you’ve been transported to a farm in Provence. This is especially surprising because the hotel is near one of Cape Town’s buzziest strips, Kloof Street, putting guests within walking distance of creative locally owned businesses like Ashanti Design. Owned by a French couple who fell in love with Cape Town, La Grenadine is set in a 19th-century farm building with five rooms and a two-bedroom cottage, all centered around the main courtyard. The inviting, unfussy rooms are adorned with white hand-embroidered linens, vintage furniture, and clawfoot bathtubs. Even the breakfast of fresh croissants, pain au chocolate, baguette, and homemade jams will transport you to a French country house." - Mary Holland

"Set the scene for us: Where is this hotel, and what does it look like? What's the vibe?Stumbling across a quirky little hotel (five rooms and a self-contained cottage), squeezed into a restored 19th-century farmhouse in a walled garden, seems too good to be true. It’s down a quiet cul-de-sac, but minutes from Kloof Street’s hopping nightlife and restaurant scene. Through a wooden gate, you enter La Grenadine’s private garden with vintage garden chairs in the shade of an old orchard of guava, avocado, pomegranate, and lemon trees. The French owners, creative couple Maxime & Mélodie, have recreated a little piece of Provence oozing with Gallic charm in the middle of Cape Town. Edith Piaf vinyl on the record player wafts across the shady garden, terra cotta pots overflow with flowers and herbs, and a couple of barefoot children frolic on the grass. It’s rather idyllic! Sounds divine! Who's staying here?European models and families with young children. Well, those are two opposite ends of the spectrum. But we digress—how was check-in?The place is owner run, so don’t expect a seamless hotel check-in. You may have to holler to get someone’s attention, but that's part of the attraction—it feels like you’re staying with friends. There's always someone around to answer questions or point you in the direction of a lunch spot or yoga class. That's helpful. Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about your room. Two of the five rooms are upstairs, so obviously have the best outlook. From Room 4, you can walk out onto a shared terrace and gaze at Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. Furnishings are the owners' picks of secondhand, vintage, and contemporary pieces that work to create a charming whole. A revitalized cast-iron Victorian bath has pride of place alongside a dreamy looking bed made up in French hand-embroidered white linen. We can't wait to see it ourselves; that sounds so cute. How about the room service, and the food, more generally?A traditional French breakfast is included, and shouldn’t be missed as almost everything is homemade. Croissants, pain au chocolat and baguette are all freshly baked, there are French cheeses, ham from Hartlief, the local German deli, fruit salad, homemade muesli and yoghurt, freshly squeezed juices, jams and good coffee. It’s all served on antique Meakin crockery. The Meakin crockery really does it for us. Any other services or features you'd like to shout out? There’s no pool, but the city’s beaches are close enough to take a dip. The garden is sometimes used for modeling shoots, and the owners occasionally organize tango evenings, poetry or literature readings, or outdoor movie nights. The two-bedroom cottage is ideal for families. They can frolic safely in the walled garden. Parking is limited, so it’s best to Uber or take a cab, but there is so much within walking distance you may not need to." - Jane Broughton

We had the pleasure of staying at La Grenadine for 3 nights at the end of our long safari travels through South Africa. The comfort of a French Country home made our visit just what we needed after nearly a month on the dusty trail. The room was very comfortable, breakfast just perfect (French continental) and the staff and owners SUPERB! I had corresponded with Maxime numerous times and she always responded quickly and with great recommendations. Natalia, the morning manager was also helpful and kind. ||||We loved the location as well. It is in the Gardens Neighborhood with a number of historical/museum attractions as well as being safe and walkable. There are plenty of restaurants and shops as well.||||We HIGHLY recommend this "petite" jewel in Cape Town.

La Grenadine was the perfect location for our stay in Cape Town with the bustling Kloof Street with its shops and restaurants at the end of the road. La Grenadine was a peaceful oasis and comfortable accommodation. We enjoyed beautiful breakfasts in the garden and tasty cakes prepared for afternoon snacks. Staff were all delightful. One improvement could be to offer non feather bedding.

Lovely little oasis in Cape Town - La Grenadine’s beautiful garden is a wonderful and relaxing retreat from the bustle of the city. The rooms are unique, well decorated and comfortable. The “living room” and library areas were a welcome space to relax in the evening. The continental breakfast was generous and delicious. The staff were incredibly kind, warm, and helpful. It was a delightful place to stay in Cape Town.

It was a true pleasure to stay at La Grenadine. Natasha and her staff made us feel at home from the first second, making the cottage our home away from home. The breakfast was brilliant, honesty bar perfect and the garden amazing. While tranquil inside, the streets around were full of restaurants, shops and everything you want to do in Cape Town was within easy reach.

My wife and I had an amazing stay at La Grenadine. One of our favorite moments was breakfast in the garden... fresh croissants, homemade jams, and great coffee, all served with such warmth. We loved chatting with the team about their favorite local spots in Cape Town. What started as casual small talk the first morning, turned into a lively conversation filled with laughter and great recommendations. It felt so personal, like catching up with old friends over breakfast, we loved it. Thank you for making our stay so special. We can’t wait to return!

We had the most wonderful stay at La Grenadine. It is the most peaceful spot right in the middle of the city and located in one of the most vibrant parts of the City. Every step of our stay was wonderful - the service, communication, the garden, breakfast, and our accommodations.
