La Griglia di Varrone

Since 2019 La Griglia di Varrone was always a highlight of my annual trip to Milan, until this week. To start, after three (3) separate trips by our waiter to “check” on wine availability, he kept returning with suggestions that climbed from €70, to €88, to €150. We finally gave up and settled on an overpriced bottle of house red. I wish that had been the worst part of the evening. When it came time to order, we learned that most of their cuts of beef were sold out, and much of the meat on their menu was frozen anyway. Pretty shameful, or at least unusual for a restaurant that markets itself as being about “the philosophy of meat excellence” and charging a premium. An hour after ordering, only 3 of our 4 appetizers arrived. The fourth showed up about 10 minutes later, plated differently from the others and clearly forgotten by either the kitchen, the waitstaff, or both. After being seated for 2.5 hours and largely ignored, we finally decided we had waited long enough for frozen beef that still hadn’t arrived. We went directly to the manager to get the check. The very same manager whose self portrait is plastered all over the restaurant was completely unhelpful, unapologetic and even attempted to charge us for items we never received, forcing me to calculate the bill myself. I would never “dine and ditch” but I wish we just walked out. It’s always disappointing to have a bad meal at a well regarded restaurant, but it’s especially infuriating when you’re a repeat customer. Don’t waste your time. There are many better restaurants in Milan. Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald’s are both right up the street.

Such a good find! The host was exceptional, kudos to her! The atmosphere was great. The staff were all friendly. The food was exceptional. The tasting menu was a very good choice. It was an exceptional food journey. It's one of the best tartar I've had, one of the best steaks I've had, and a really good selection of mash potato. Let's not forget the great cut of cured meat! Would come here again and again!

What a scam! Overpriced, rude, inattentive staff -- every bottle of wine we selected that was under one hundred EURO was "not available" ..so were most of the lesser priced meals lol. We ordered three overpriced steaks (which we found were frozen, as most of their steaks are, apparently), an overpriced bottle of wine and appetizers, sides and salad. Three of the four appetizers finally arrived after 30 minutes, the fourth even later still. Salads, other sides and steaks after two hours never happened, whilst other tables were served we patiently waited until we finally gathered ourselves after 10 pm without being served told the manager we were leaving and asked for the check, the flustered manager charged us for the bottled water, mediocre bottle of wine, four overpriced greasy pastrami sliders and of course obligatory service /bread charge and he then had the gaul to add to the bill items that still never made it to the table! Very scummy and scammy experience at Varrone Milano. If you are looking for a great steak, look somewhere else.

This restaurant is ideal for those looking for a meat restaurant but with a romantic and formal ambience. The lighting is dim, the décor is nice and the song selection is interesting (perhaps the volume is a bit loud). The waiter was very professional and qualified during the meat presentation. The food was delicious and we would have given it 5 stars... but the quality of service throughout the dinner was erratic. After ordering we struggled to communicate with the staff and they rarely asked if we needed anything. Ordering drinks and desserts and asking for the bill was difficult. A real shame.

We had a dinner in this steakhouse. The quality of the meat is very high. There is also a big selection of different type of meat. However the size of the dishes is pretty small in relation to the price. We paid the same price as in Zurich, but in Zurich we had much bigger sizes (250gr at least). The service is good but slow, especially at the end we had to wait more than 10 minutes for the bill after the request and the restaurant was not full at it was 23:00.

Make a reservation! We chose this place because the serve creekstone meats. Staff was professional and in sync with each other. Noticed the great management and staff working efficiently to get our order out. Pro tip Halal aged black angus

This was the best experience while being in Milano. Excellent food and service! You have to love meat obviously, but when you do it is the place to go! The only Italian hick up, if I may say so was that we ordered the menu degustazione and we received ‘Fidati di me’ which is double the price. So this left a small after taste… make sure to really point out what you want to eat, however I would go there again!

It is sad such a good restaurant, upscale, with such good food would have such a horrible service. Our meal last night lasted three hours. Too much time in between plates. Again, flavor very good. Ambiance too crowded and noisy. Very high end people, but tables to close to the school other. Explanation of food in English was very poor. To top it all off, extremely expensive. For these prices service has to be hyper polite, quick(not rush), and the serving time must be shorter.

Best fucking steakhouse in Italy. We had no reservation and they sat is promptly and were bery friendly!!! Absolutely the best!

THE FOOD IS AMAZING! Sadly, the service isn't that great. My family and I went here on our last night in Milan and were very pleased. We had steaks and the smoked smashed potatoes. Definitely recommended!
