There’s Still Time to Score Houston’s Viral Pumpkin Spice-Filled Conchas - Eater Houston

"La Hacienda Bakery, located at 180 Uvalde Road in Houston's Timberwood area, gained popularity for its pumpkin-spice conchas that went viral on TikTok. The bakery has been selling out almost daily and is working to meet high demand by considering hiring more staff and extending the availability of the conchas. The conchas have been featured on Good Morning America and have a waitlist due to their popularity." - Brittany Britto Garley

Went here to try the Dubai chocolate items the bakery makes. The concha was okay too much concha not enough dubai. The dubai chocolate was actually really good and the dubai chocolate strawberry was very good. I bought a bunch of other things to gift but I did get the hostess cupcake copycat, it tasted weird so I'd pass on that. But I also did get the muffin looking item with a fruit filling that was good, a little too much bread which I just tore off but the filling and bread were very tasty. It was a trek to get there but at least we could we tried it, probably wouldn't do it again.

When my family & I were visiting Katy from San Antonio, we drove to visit this bakery because my daughter saw a TikTok video about it; it was well worth the trip. The customer service was great, the selection was good even though we got there at 9 pm. Every single thing we bought & tried was good, except the pink round cookies; they're so-so. My daughter absolutely loved the Dubai chocolate/strawberry concha, my husbands favorite was a dark brownish empanada with sugar on the outside (we're not sure what it was), & my favorite was the banana nut bread with raisins (I think that's what it was). All of the stuffed conchas were amazing. We will definitely be returning when we visit the area again to try their flan, Dubai chocolate cup, piggies & tres leches.

La Hacienda Bakery in Houston is one of those places that surprises you in the best way. The staff is super friendly and welcoming they take the time to explain what’s fresh, what’s seasonal, and what you have to try. We had a little bit of everything for the july special flavors: the lemon mousse and seasonal mango mousse were light, smooth, and not too sweet perfect for summer. The cinnamon rolls (Oreo and lemon cream) were rich, fluffy, and full of flavor. We also tried the key lime cake and mango cake, both super moist and refreshing. The Dubai concha was buttery, soft, and topped with that signature chocolate shell. We couldn’t leave without trying the strawberries covered in Dubai chocolate so fresh and indulgent. And the classics? Their flan, chocoflan, and tres leches were on point creamy, balanced, and made with care. Every pastry had its own personality, and you can tell the bakery puts love into each detail. If you’re in Houston, don’t miss this spot especially if you’re into seasonal flavors and Latin desserts done right.

Google
The pastry’s were delicious , very soft and tasty. When we went we bought the Dubai strawberry brownie and strawberry croissant, and concha filled with something not sure what it was but very tasty everything was great. Excellent service, the atmosphere wasn’t the best but it’s was okey, if ur planning to come I would definitely recommend coming to try this place out.👍🏻

Google
The Dubai concha was pretty good but did not have enough filling and could use 1 or 2 more strawberries. All I got was concha for that 6 something price. I also got the chocolate bar and it was to much chocolate not enough filling. Y'all want to charge an arm and a leg 🦵 for the new Dubai items but where is the Dubai? Is it still in the back in the kitchen? Gave a 3 start because I like the mini conchas the best and they were fresh hot.

Google
I placed an order for a rosca and had very high expectations for it since we tried the conchas & they were delicious with a good amount of filling. I ordered the rosca rellena mediana we were very disappointed in the size of it, kinda looked like a small rosca and for the price $38 was not it! Plus there wasn’t much filling it was just a tiny bit and the rest of the bread was dry! It was very unorganized you did not know which line was which , the workers were all over the place couldn’t even ask which line was which! Just overall very disappointing!!

Google
So much bakeries, strawberry cup was amazing, they even had the Dubai concha’s, bought my work pastries as well and they loved it!

Google
Me and my son came to this place, saw the TikTok videos about this place and we wanted to try. We bought the Oreo conchas Oreo cinnamon roll and the Dubai chocolate cheesecake. I’m just going to say they were okay. The only reason I’m giving it 2 stars it’s because of customer service the guy who was in the cashier was not in the mood I believe 😅. I just told my son that he was being overworked that’s why he was being rude.

Yelp
I was lead here by their TikTok page! Once I saw their Oreo and Dubai chocolate offerings for the months, I knew I had to make the drive out! I ordered a bit of everything. My favorite was the Oreo concha , but the Dubai concha and Oreo empanada also did not disappoint.

The Thumbs Critic ..

Yelp
Thumbs Up: The staff was polite, and the facility was clean. Neutral: I visited with friends who couldn't stop talking about the pumpkin conchas they'd seen on TikTok. I gave them a try, but they turned out to be too crumbly and messy for my taste. Flavor-wise, they were okay -- not really worth a long trip, though. Thumbs Down: Nothing here is labeled, so you have to guess what each item is. Thumbs Down: The cinnamon rolls look fantastic, but unfortunately, the icing has coconut in it. I find it frustrating when chefs add unexpected ingredients to what should be simple recipes. Neutral: The sugar cookies tasted stale to me, although I'm told that's actually typical of classic "Mexican" cookies.

Yelp
Only bad thing about this place is how far is it from my house I got here because I wanted to try the pumpkin filled conscious so I woke up early and drove all the way there. I choose several pieces, the place looks so clean. They have so many different options and everybody is so friendly. I had to take the conchas with pumpkin, churros, white vanilla conchas PAN DE MUERTO (ready for my altar ) and some decorative cookies (which by the way were so soft and crunchy at the same time usually places mess up with these ones) The baker came and we were talking about the next event. They're gonna have this Saturday and they invited me to come and join them. They were looking for an actual paper invitation to give me, but they couldn't find one so it's good. I may still show up. ****** YOU MUST TRY THE CHURROS!! filled with cajeta (milky caramel sauce) and they were crunchy and fun (unlike my ex)********

Yelp
Went for the first time recently and it did not disappoint. First of all the customer service was great. One of the guys took me around the whole store and showed me what each item was, he even gave me a sample of one and it was delicious. I ended up getting more than I expected and everything I had was amazing. I really enjoyed the ones with the crème cheese inside. Going to have to go back for the holidays ones soon.

Yelp
Very fresh and delicious. They where very nice as soon as I walked in and pulled the pasteries from the back for us. The location was decorated for Halloween and looked great.

Yelp
It was easy to get in and out, and the TikTok famous pastries were plenty full. I've only tried one pastry so far and it is fresh and delicious. My only complaint would be the price but then again they are beautiful so you get what you pay for. 4 pastries, 3 cookies 17.75

Yelp
Love their conchas, cakes, chocoflan! True Mexican bakery. Oh and the flour tortillas are amazing, homemade!!! I've tasted pretty much everything and it is delicious The fresas con cremas are to die for! I LOVE the bread call ojos and the conchas with and without filling, their cookies, and their 3 leches cake!! The cinnamon rolls with pecans and cream cheese are absolutely delicious!!

Yelp
My friend brought me your Pumpkin Bread it was so delicious soft and airy. She said they had a line but worth the wait. You might want to buy extra so you can share with friends and family. Very unique. It reminds me of the bread I get from the Chinese bakery's. Soft and fluffy with a Mexican twist

Yelp
Craving a sweet treat and found this wonderful bakery. Walked in and was immediately drawn in with the scent of fresh baked bread. As a first time visitor, my family of 3 was given a taste test of several of their specialty items...all absolutely delicious. Excellent service and even better tasting pan dulce. They had so many different options of pan, cookies and cakes. We walked out with a large bag of treats! This is a definitely a place to come check out!
google avatar

Juan D.

Yelp
My mom saw these fall vibe concha's on tiktok, and apparently people from Canada and Chicago have been coming here. So naturally we had to come check it out, definitely worth the drive from the Northside to the east side. If you're ever craving sweet bread/ pan Dulce make sure you come to La Hacienda Bakery I promise you won't regret it!

Yelp
We visited La Hacienda after seeing them on TikTok with the pumpkin concha. It's tucked away but is definitely a hidden gem! Very clean and decorated cute for Halloween! Customer service was above and behind going as far as handing out samples of cheesecake flan, which was delicious!! Keep up the good work!

Yelp
Amazing bakery with friendly staff and delicious conchas. Drove 1 hour to get there and worth the gas. The owner was extremely kind and friendly.

Yelp
Don't place shipping orders from this business. I was excited to try the Pumpkin spice conchas so placed an order on December 10th, 2024. UPS was to deliver on December 12th, 2024 I was home waiting to receive the package. No package was delivered. I contacted UPS made a claim. Then I contacted the business so they can follow up with UPS. My order was lost/delivered to the wrong house. I tried to get a hold of someone in the bakery but it took numerous attempts. I explained the situation with no resolution. I requested a refund from UPS and the bakery but they put blame on each other as to who needs to provide the refund. There is no reason for me to lie about not getting the conchas delivered.. But if a business can't help find a solution or reimburse it's best to not offer delivery. Packages get missplaced, stolen or in my case lost by the carrier. Do not buy for shipping from here. It's not worth the headache. I won't order again from here. Awful experience and customer service is bad as well.

Yelp
It's a small establishment with very tasty bread. All of the pastries were good. Prices are in line with the market. They had fast and friendly service.

Yelp
You would never know that the pastries from La hacienda bakery didn't come from a high end bakery. They are delicious. The service is attentive and everyone is super nice. The place is always clean. I'm always happy with whatever comes from La Hacienda Bakery.

Yelp
We've been going to this bakery for years and everything is absolutely delicious. One of my favorites things are the conchas and cuernos. And other great part of this bakery is that it is always clean and organized and the service is outstanding.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Pan mas feo y todas quebradas.El servicio es lo peor estaba tratando de ver cual pan queria y que la señora con los lentes me dice "disculpe no hagas eso que los panes se maltratan" y ya estaban quebradas aparte tienen mucha manteca.

Teresa T.

Yelp
i live 40 minutes away and i called at least 10 times before making the trip but no one answered. so i made the trip. and what i wanted was not available until the weekend. i wish someone answered the phone when i called before making it way out here.

Rosemary A.

Yelp
I happen to be in the area and I'm so glad I stopped. The bread is delicious. The pumpkin concha's were so good, I wish I would have gotten more.

Patty H.

Yelp
Wasn't able to try it, waited over an hour and no update on when they were gonna reopen. What I would recommend is to please update customers on a an ETA on what is going on. People had been waiting for 2+ hours and still no update.

Jordan B.

Yelp
Their pumpkin spice conchas are DELICIOUS! So fresh and not too sweet. We'll be back for more asap because my kids ate them up

Sketch T.

Yelp
The concha's stayed soft and the pina filled ones are the best. Also got the pumpkin filled concha's and they were good and big.

Bobby D.

Yelp
People of Houston you've got to visit la Hacienda bakery it's delicious just left from there and ate some sweet bread on our way home from there and its delicious it's worth the wait

Yelp
I've only been here a handful of times, since I'd rather make the drive to the bakery on Wayside and 45; but living across the street from this bakery, sometimes convenience gets the best of me. I was here again tonight, and I can confirm that EVERY TIME I'm here, I leave with some kind of unknown charge. I walk out with buyer's remorse because of the sticker shock, and upon examination of my receipt, I find extra charges. Tonight I have an extra $2 charge for I have no idea what. I paid $13 for FOUR pieces of sweet bread and two $2.50 bags of torta bread. I have 7 line items on my receipt. But what good does it do to walk back in demanding an explanation on a small charge? Bet that's what they count on. Marked up prices, mediocre bread, mystery charges. Maybe next time I'll remember why I avoid this place.

Yelp
So pretty neutral with this place. Bread looks delicious. Cakes also looked good and had a good price, service was not bad friendly young lady. We were looking for a small cake they only had bigger ones or slices, so we opted out and went to another bakery, did not try the bread so cannot say how good it is. There were about 4 people inside so looks like good traffic in thinking they are yummy. Will try another time

Yelp
We ordered our wedding cake here and got to do a cake tasting beforehand that was absolutely amazing! My fiance and I each got to taste six types of cake and Leslye kept bringing us more pastries to try until we were simply too full. I can't wait to have mini pan dulces at my wedding this fall alongside a beautiful cake. I'll update with a picture after the wedding!

Gregory G.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get sweet bread. Their breads are delicious, soft and usually almost always fresh. I have occasionally gotten stale bread, maybe old forgotten pieces by mistake by staff. I would suggest possibly having more variety of sweet breads. This is like a basic panaderia, if you're looking for some simple Mexican sweet bread like conchas, cookies, bolillo, etc.

Ruth A.

Yelp
Delicious Pan Dulce and Hojarascas. There is a various selection of things to enjoy.
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
Everything is so delicious! And service is outstanding! It's a favorite of mine. Luckily I have a co worker and friend who lives close by and picks up for me regularly.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow. Just wow! So many yummy treats. We got some chocolate flan, tres leches, something rolled with cream inside, and some assorted cookies. The facility is clean and the staff is nice!
google avatar

Lynnette W.

Yelp
I ordered a cake for My daughters sweet 16. It exceeded my expectations and was delicious and beautiful. We enjoyed it very much! Thank you La Hacienda Bakery

Amanda D.

Yelp
Everyone at the bakery is very nice and helpful, but I wasted $30 on a tres leches cake that turned out to be a plain white cake. It wasn't horrible, but it definitely wasn't what I asked for. I went here because I thought it would have been more authentic, but the tres leches from HEB is 100 time better.
google avatar

Monica R.

Yelp
We normally drive to El Bolillo for pan, but we didn't feel like driving far so we decided to try this place. It was 7pm on a Tuesday night and the bread was SOFT and there was still a good variety. We love that all the bread is gluten free and super delicious! BRING BACK THE GLUTEN FREE BREAD PLEASE!!!
google avatar

Luisa D.

Yelp
Love their conchas, cakes, chocoflan! True Mexican bakery. Oh and the flour tortillas are amazing, homemade flour tortillas!

Keila M.

Yelp
I love this family owned bakery! I travel from Summerwood to get the fresh authentic bread. Great customer service as well.

Brenda S.

Yelp
I almost never do Yelp reviews, but they made my graduation cake and it was amazing . The absolute BEST tres leches cake I've ever eaten. My guests even asked for the number to the bakery. I've been back there several times. The chocoflan is AMAZING. I've never had such good quality Mexican bread. The right amount of sweetness and quality each time.

Yelp
Great food it's extremely clean the service is prompt the prices r excellent and is my go to spot for sweets

Yelp
If you want good mexican bread, birthday cakes, or pastries...THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO BUY IT FROM. first of all their breads are hard like rocks and so are their cakes. Their pastries had to have been atleast two weeks old...ATLEAST! The women that work there don't know anything and don't even want to be there to begin with. If you ask them if anything is fresh, they'll just tell you "I don't know, I think so." If you want any pastries I would suggest either WALMART or KROGERS atleast you'll know that their stuff is soft! P.S. Even if they were to offer me anything for my bad experience and bad pastries. It still would never compensate for the nasty stuff that they sell here! I would not even want it for free! I would surely tell the OWNER "YOU TRY EATING THE STUFF THEY MAKE AT YOUR BAKERY!"
google avatar

Leslie G.

Yelp
Awesome bread. 1 rating I saw is bs! Love it. Im only here for my bf job, I visit him. Im glaf I found this panaderia.
google avatar

Luisa D.

Yelp
Best bakery ever. The sweet bread is so good and always fresh, the cakes are delicious; they have so much variety: tres leches, cheesecake, chocoflan (my favorite), and much more. I definitely recommend this place, everybody should go. I live in Katy, TX and believe me is worth it to drive all the way down there to get that delicious bread and cakes.
google avatar

Timothy F.

Yelp
Great place for pan dulce, and it's gluten free since everything is made from rice flour!
google avatar

Héctor U.

Yelp
I love the pan dulce from this bakery... great costumer service... The tres leches cake is delicious and the pan bolillo is always hot... I always buy tres leches cake for my parties.

Violet G.

Yelp
Well i went there the other day....and seen a sign tht if we give a good rating we get $3 off so i asked....i got my bread....went to check out....then started to do my survey for my discount....well she continued to check ppl out...bc se had to see tht i gave five stars...mind u she already had bagged my bread... But didnt want to charge or give me my discount until she seen the review....well when i showed her my proof of review..she finally decided to charge me....so when i go to the other side to get my bread...it was gone..!!! She could hv set it aside...while she rang ppl up. Then after i asked her about my bread...she got rude with me in frnt of other customers as if it was my fault...i asked to speak to the manager.... And there was no manager on site. They called the owner and no answer... I waited and waited she said she couldnt give me my money back....i kept asking her whats going to hpn...bc i wasnt going to leave empty handed ...bc i payed! ..so she told me to get the dollar amt of bread tht i had payed.... So i did....then before i left she told me tht this better not happen again! It clearly was her fault for not paying attention to what she was doing....how can u wrk with ur cell phone full blast with music...? Employees hv to be fully aware of whats going on...now if she would hv charged me first all of this could hv been avoided...but bc she wanted to mk sure i gave them five stars she didnt...the bread is good and fresh dont get me wrong but this place needs to get professional employees and a manager there to handle situations like this....the night shift girl with the glasses was the one tht was rude...i always go there...but maybe now i will go somewhere else.

Claudia I.

Yelp
They sell Mexican bread, kid's birthday cakes, coffee and fancy wedding cakes as well. I've only tried the bread and its pretty good

Mark E.

Yelp
The Conchas are the best!! And the Tamales... it's convenient because they are open 7 days until 10 pm

Daniel A.

Yelp
This is a great place to satisfy your craving for real Mexican sweet bread (pan dulce Mexicano). They have a real variety to pick from.
