La Hacienda Review - East Boston - Boston - The Infatuation

"La Hacienda, located right in the center of always busy Meridian Street, serves a variety of Mexican and Salvadoran dishes. It’s not often that we rave about fajitas (we generally find them to be rather bland), but the ones here are really good. If you’re here on the weekend, don’t miss out on a bowl of homemade soup - we’re fans of the sopa de mondongo." - Joel Ang

Google
Headed to Michigan and stopped in Paxton to find some food. Found this little gem and thought we would try it. Haven’t had Mexican food in a little while. Tony greeted us and was very grand informative. Got chips and medium salsa ( which we love ). The chips and salsa here are awesome. Got a chicken quesadilla with beans and two flour tacos with the works. Absolutely loved the tacos!!!! Authentic food for sure. Thank you Tony for your hospitality and to your mom who does an amazing job of cooking. Will keep this place in mind next time we are driving through.

Google
First and foremost, this menu is more than 80% American diner fare with some basic Mexican options scattered far and between. Due to the lack of Mexican options, I ordered a Reuben which they were out of followed by their Deluxe Burger with a medium-well cook. While the burgers taste was nice, the burger was more medium-rare than medium-well(photo). Since the waitress was kind and quick, I did not share my dismay with her. Aside from the lack of even semi-authentic Mexican cuisine, the most disappointing part of my visit came from the well-cleaned bathroom with no soap or paper towels. Obviously that’s very concerning as I’m doubtful the cooks have their own private restroom with soap and paper towels.

I just want to say Thank You so much for catering, yet another year! It helped make the holiday season go so smoothly. I appreciate everything you and your staff did to ensure our dinner was a success. Not only was the food fantastic, I overheard several guests raving about the meat and tamales! We know a lot of work goes into making evenings like ours a success-- please pass on our thanks to everyone involved!

Google
We loved this place until they started using the same shrimp for the fajitas as they do for the boils . You have to peel etc and they lose their flavor, and honestly it’s just kinda outside of my desire to do while eating . Margaritas are amazing. Asada is fire . Weird hours in the fall and winter :(

Stopped on our travels and were pleasantly surprised! Outstanding authentic Mexican food that was reasonably priced. We will definitely make a point to stop back during our travels.

Google
We both enjoyed the BEST Mexican meals ever! The wife had a couple big tacos that were really good and I had a fajita quesadilla which was fantastic! Lots of meat and freshly grilled veggies and a ton of melted cheese over everything! It was soooo good! AND finally, their salsa tasted like my favorite fresh, out of the garden homestyle salsa. We'll definitely stop again next time we're passing through Paxton!

Google
Delicious, quick, authentic Mexican food. I love the verde (green salsa) it’s perfect! Try the Enchilada’s Verde ! My hubby loves their Steak Torta’s! Our favorite place to go in Paxton.

Yelp
Wow hidden treasure we for breakfast here and wonderful service and food. I got an omelette with bacon tomato and broccoli and cheese. Yummy comes with potatoes and toast or pancakes. Definitely recommend to try.

Yelp
Pretty good all around. Smaller place, big bar. Food has more of a homemade taste than some other Mexican places. House salsa is more like a chunky, pico de gallo type salsa, with plenty of onion. I ordered chicken & rice with cheese sauce. The chicken and rice were really good, wasnt a huge fan of the queso, but it could have just been the brand they use. Salsa picosa was good and spicy, lots of chipotle flavor. Corn tortillas were fried and homemade-tasting. Would go back and try something else, for sure.

Yelp
it's a little pricier than some places but very worth it . The meat, especially the carne asada, is a great quality and flavor . The shrimp fajita is awesome . There's a consistency here that's hard to find in this town, and a care put toward special requests that no one else seems to do . I either have it delivered or pick it up, so I can't speak to the ambiance really. The new management has done a great job.

Yelp
Excellent service, kind, quick, delicious & fresh food. We brought our two young kids & they were sweet & understanding in ways to keep everyone satisfied. Fish tacos were superb! We will definitely be returning

Yelp
We stopped here coming back from Bloomington (IL, not IN!) for dinner and from the moment we walked in the door, the restaurant reminded me of a great place off the beaten tourist trap trail in Roatan. The menu wasn't the usual type with one of every combination of a thing under the sun. It was straightforward and concise The food was great, fresh and piping hot. The service was terrific and efficient. Very highly recommended!!

Yelp
Service was good but food was less than mediocre, with an odd menu to boot. Ordered a draft beer that was very obviously flat/bad, informed the server and then watched as the owner/manager took a drink and spit it out across the bar top. Photos posted online do not coincide with what's actually available. Much better options nearby, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Mexican food. The tamales are the best but they sell quick. Atmosphere is beautiful. Staff is friendly.

Yelp
Delicious food served by a friendly, attentive wait staff. We've been here several times and have always enjoyed the casual atmosphere and excellent, authentic food. Reasonable prices too!

Yelp
The old 102 Lounge in Paxton now has a truly authentic Mexican restaurant with deliciousness that themed Mexican places around the country just don't offer. The food here is like what I have had in homes with families and friends in Mexico when I've lived there and visited over the years. Try the Ceviche, fish tacos, guacamole and queso fundido with chorizo. Save room for the delicious churros, banana chimichanga dessert or fried ice cream.

Yelp
Really delicious food and an interesting variety of entrees. Something for everyone. Reasonable prices, great service. Chef/owner raises the bar for Mexican food -- made-from-scratch & fresh & tasty.

Yelp
OFFICIAL REVIEW: La Hacienda Cantina in Paxton, IL The food is AWESOME!! Homemade, authentic Hispanic cuisine at its finest served in an inviting and comfortable environment. My personal thanks to Anthony (son of the owners) for making a very welcoming, friendly and warm experience at lunch today! His parents cooked the food and it brought me back to warm, sunny days living in Southern California. I strongly urge whomever reads this to take time out of your day (or evening) and give them a try!! It's worth it!! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057454605770&mibextid=ZbWKwL

Yelp
Decided to take a random road trip from Chicago one evening and ended up getting takeout here for dinner. Ordered a bunch of tacos, churros, a burrito, chips and guacamole, and a quesadilla. I will say the rice that came as a side with the tacos was very tasty. I thought it was cooked and seasoned well. Also, I liked the three types of salsa we were given-I thought the meat for the tacos was seasoned well, but the tacos were pretty dry without putting some salsa on them. The guacamole was good but definitely needs salt for better taste and some lime juice (to prevent how quickly it browns). The churros were okay, but cooked a little more than I like. But they were well coated in sugar and was the perfect after dinner treat. The staff was very friendly, though and we appreciate them quickly putting our large order together so we could devour it all quickly in our car! Overall, I will say that I was pretty impressed with the quality of the food here and if a random road trip ever brings me back, I wouldn't mind stopping by again.

Yelp
This restaurant was an absolute delight. The drinks were amazing, the staff was friendly, and the food was great. I literally cannot say enough good things. Our server, Tony, was beyond awesome. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about everything from the menu right down to the tequila he put in my margarita. It was quite possibly the best margarita ever and I literally stayed at a "Margaritaville Resort" a couple of months ago and the margarita Tony made me knocked it out of the park. The food knocked it out of the park as well. Both my husband and I were surprised by how flavorful everything was. Not your standard Mexican food, you could tell it wasn't made in a hurry, it was delicious. This restaurant even pleased our two young daughters! The cheese dip and their dishes were yummy AND they were even kind enough to bring a game over for the girls to play together while we waited. 5 stars for this restaurant and for Tony!

Yelp
Very friendly, helpful staff. Seated right away. Food served quickly. Authentic Mexican menu: we ordered Chorizo tacos, steak taco salad, and guacamole burger, the special. All items were amazing! We were able to speak with the owner, who was the friendliest. Shared our pleasant experience with their food. Was informed of the availability of tamales and also Mexican desserts. (Margaritas are a specialty too!) Will definitely return to explore other menu items and enjoy the atmosphere.

Yelp
Went with my kids here earlier. I'll speak for my food. I got a steak torta and it was very good. The meat was really tender and seasoned good. All ingredients were fresh. We got a hot and mild sauce and they were both very good. I preferred the hot one over the mild. The torta can with a green sauce that was very good too. Service was good too. I'll go back and try some other items.

Yelp
Very clean establishment & friendly staff. Was surprised at the spice of the salsa but very good. I had a pork tamale & ground beef sope. All quite tasty. My friend had a grilled chicken torta & that too, was tasty. We had been traveling through on I 57 and drove into town to eat here (discovered via Yelp). From upper Wisconsin so a nice treat. COVID precautions taken by all staff - we went at lunch time so was not many customers.

Yelp
We've ordered take out here a few time during covid and everything has been well-packaged and great tasting. Love the queso & chips!

Yelp
Wow!! This place is amazing. The restaurant was very clean and everyone at our table agreed that the food was fresh and very tasty. Laura our waitress was so sweet and went above and beyond to make our experience a very pleasant one. Will be making the trip whenever I'm in the mood for Mexican food!!

Yelp
Such a good restaurant to get authentic, homemade Mexican food. It's so delicious, hands down the best I've ever had. Really good margaritas too! Complete bar inside. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. I can't find the words to describe how good this place is! I'm anxiously waiting to go back again.

Douglas S.

Yelp
Had a great and authentic Mexican meal here. Tony makes great margaritas and the queso fundito was a wonderful appetizer. Fast and friendly service. Will be driving over from Gibson City again soon.

Yelp
I heard this restaurant had pretty authentic Mexican food which is hard to find around here because I am from Chicago, but in all embarrassment I was short I meant order but Tony the restaurant manager let me take what I had and took my word that I'll be back to pay that $5 which is amazing and very kind. not to mention their food is absolutely amazing my family loved it so if you're looking for pretty authentic Mexican food definitely check this place out I'm sure you'll be greeted by a very kind manager and a great wait staff
