On the Grid : La Huerta

"As a long-standing vendor of the historic Grand Central Market, La Huerta purveys goodies from classic American candies to novelty Mexican nuts. Perhaps one of Grand Central's most visually dynamic stalls, La Huerta is bedecked by colorful bins of sweet and savory snacks in variable textures, tints, and tastes. Listen for the delightful sound of the counter clerk's hand wading through containers of candy-coated chocolates, and watch for the eager eyes of young recipients as they anticipate a scrumptious afternoon nibble." - Canopy

The only candy shop in the Grand Central Market. Plenty of sugary and non sugary confections. You can also find culturally traditional sweet treats as well. There is no self serve like many typical candy shop. Cost is relatively high but it is on par to what you would expect to pay in downtown. The attendant was rather friendly and patient during our visit. There plenty of candy to choose from.

My experience here was literally "little kid in a candy store. I was so excited! They have a variety of candies, gummies, and dried fruits. The fried mango was delicious and I took some sour rings and sour belts to share with the family. Most of the items range from $8.99 to $11.99 a pound.

Google
The best TAMARIND candies! Been looking all over SoCal and he has the ones made of real tamarind fruit. Also the gummies are amazing, they look like jewels & taste great! Owner is very friendly and helpful

Great chamoy and chili powdered candy. I enjoyed the sour patch, sour belts, and watermelon the most. Came up to about $12.99 a pound.

LA Huera Candy Shop at La Grand Central is an absolute gem! The variety of candies available is mind-boggling, from nostalgic favorites to unique and exotic treats. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help you find your perfect sweet indulgence. The shop itself is charming and inviting, with a delightful atmosphere that adds to the overall experience. Whether you're a candy enthusiast or simply looking for a delightful treat, LA Huera Candy Shop is a must-visit destination!

Google
It's the best candy. I did not know there was a difference between fresh and packaged gummies. These are fresh. Soft and more flavorful. Not to mention many more options.

Was standing in line for 15 minutes just to have a white girl walk up while I’m standing at counter clearly seen and she was served first said nothing because I would have blown my top and wasn’t appropriate. Then after waiting on her to be served I buy a half a pound of toffee cashews just to get home and find they are moist in some spots wet and soft. Soft Cashews! Disgusting will never go to them again and making sure others won’t either.

We purchased the (way overpriced) Japanese nuts and they were just so terrible - hard to bite into and the flavor/taste was disgusting. Definitely not worth the money!!

Yelp
La Huerta Candy is a great place to bring kids or even a really big kid like myself. There's so many different kind of options. If you are looking for some classic Mexican candy. They've got you covered. they have all different flavor profiles from salty, sweet, sour and spicy. The gentleman working the counter was very friendly and helpful. He was also very patient with us trying to decide what we wanted. I literally felt like a "fat kid in a candy shop" The options were limitless. I tried some of the dried mangos, other fruit and gummies covered in the Mexican chili flavor. I enjoyed some and others not so much. They had some really cool gummies with cool subject matter like gummy dinosaurs. I really wanted to get my son the gummy green army men

Yelp
RUDE AS HELL. I'm a new single mother, by brain is still a fog because I'm constantly thinking of many things that I have to do. Came here with my daughter and wanted something sweet after my meal. I nicely asked if he was closed and I noticed he kept looking at something over and over....his "closed sign". After apologizing to him not realizing he was closed he was asking me what I wanted. So much for trying this place out. Never again!

Yelp
Delicious candy!! I tried their dehydrated pineapple rings cover in chili powder, watermelon gummies in chili powder and gummy worms. They sell candy by the pound. You can mix and match and pick from a wide variety. The also sell mixed nuts and dehydrated fruit. Service was prompt and the staff takes care of you quickly. They accept cards payment and cash.

Yelp
When you come back from Mexico and are majorly jonesing for crunchy spicy things. Then you remember LA is Mexico dammit you can find this here! Tahdah! One block from work is this gem! Got my botana! Maiz garbanzo y habas.
google avatar

Yelp
I will always return for the chili gushers!!! They are literally the most perfectly tasting balanced chili mix I've ever tried. Customer service is top notch, he allows you to sample whatever you'd like, even the fresh mango pickled in chamoy which was BOMB!! They also sell chamoy pickle kits, I had NO IDEA. Get them before they're gone!! The place itself is a very cool booth it has all the candies displayed it's very colorful and eye-catching. I love love love all their candies there's a HUGE variety. Definitely coming back for more, as always!

Yelp
Went to Grand Central Market to get out the house and came across La Huerta Candy. I'm going to be honest I'm not really a sweets type of person but when I tasted these blueberry sour belts in Chile it brought back childhood memories of eating the sour belts in school and going to my grandmas for Chile candy. For them to mix the sweet and sour with Chile is a out of this world experience and not one over powers the other. It's a perfect balance of both to the point I had to stop myself from eating the whole half a pound haha I would highly recommend checking this place out if you live sweet and spicy.

Yelp
I love this place! So many sweet treats to choose from, and I love that they have so many spicy options, all very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this place as a stop at grand central!
google avatar

Yelp
The worst candy shop ever coz the cashier was rude af and didn't know how to smile at all. Zero customer service. Came to buy my 3 kids candies, and one of my kids took 1 minute to decide (well yea that's pretty normal for kids at candy shop coz he kinda wants everything right?!) and he was clearly annoyed! So you expect adults only to come buy candy??? DON'T work at candy shop if that's what u want! Not professional. wouldn't recommend this place to anyone ever
google avatar

Yelp
Owner is friendly and has lots of great flavors. There is so many to choose from. My favorites are the lime and chile flavored gummy candies. You have to try those. There are many garage parking spots around and is easy to get to.

Yelp
Where do I even start? The chamoy watermelon and peach rings are so BOMB. Literal crack. But also the service is so good. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Hello Yelp! This is a great candy store in grand central market. La Huerta has a huge selection of gummy, sour, sweet, and spicy candies in addition to peanuts cashews, mixed nuts, trail mix, AND dried fruits such as cranberries, tangerines, etc. I love the huge selection and reasonable prices. This is an awesome place to get movie snacks, tv show bingeing, late night snacks, in between meal snacks, sports, halloween candy, road trips and etc.! I like to snack and have a bit of a sweet tooth I purchased banana chips and also mixed trail nuts that have the dried pineapples and nectarines and a variety of nuts. Customer service is great too. Everyone is so friendly and positive! They weight out tour ordera so one can purchase by the lb or even the 0.25lb. I am going to try the lime and chile nuts soon! Live free Yelp! -Brandon

Yelp
I came here two weeks ago for the first time and I cannot stop going, I've ate a pound of chamoy gummies and I cannot stop myself. I had to hide them from myself! hopefully I can control myself or I may stop by again this week. They're so good, they let you mix from the wide variety they have. I've tried maybe 6-9 different tajin/chamoy gummies and they were all just as good. Maybe I'm going to get some dried fruit next time because I need to chill. My friend also bought a pound of mixed candy and he ate it all in 2 days and he won't stop talking about it. Also the two times I went the people that took my order were really nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Who would have thought that Tajin spice would taste so good on gummy bears?! The guy helping us was super sweet. He offered suggestions along with samples. We spent a little under $10 and got a variety of delicious gummies!
google avatar

Virginia L.

Yelp
I felt like a kid in a candy store. Located in Grand Central Market, La Huerta has reasonably priced candies. For a small store, they have a large selection from gummies to sour candies and nuts. However, I did not see any chocolate. I got a quarter pound of chamoy candy (watermelon, mango, and sour belts) which came out to less than $5. What a treat!
google avatar

Ted C.

Yelp
I was walking around Grand Central Market and came across La Huerta. I figured that because of COVID there wouldn't be any samples given so was content with just window shopping. They still carefully do samples here so I got to try out what had held my attention there: Taijin spiced gummies! I was skeptical but after trying the gummy bears and the gummy worms I was hooked! The man behind the counter was friendly and helpful and was quick to see if there was anything else. I didn't want to take too much advantage of his goodwill since I expect to be back soon for a re-up of the gummies.
google avatar

Jaime T.

Yelp
Cool little candy place. If it is convenient, stop by and grab some samples. They're usually very friendly about samples. I wouldn't pay for parking for this place but I would come back if it is convenient.
google avatar

Sabrina A.

Yelp
This is my favorite stall at Grand Central Market and wish they shipped! Just finished the last of my spicy mango sour belts and wish I had bought more when I was in LA! The candy is so fresh and there's plenty to choose from! Must have for anyone that likes Mexican candy and gummies. Reasonably priced too! If the owner is reading this review -- please think about starting an online business! Can't find good Mexican gummies like this anywhere else!
google avatar

Yelp
Heading back to the car we decided to stop at the candy store for a little sweet treat for our car ride back home. I ended up picking out sour belts, strawberry apple flavor I believe and we couldn't go wrong with some sour gummy worms. I only got a little bit since I wasn't sure on the pricing or how fresh they were going to be. Price was good, and when we got back to the car we dug right in. The flavors we're really good, and the quality of freshness was there as well. Will be back again to try more items and flavors.

Yelp
It's nice to see an old school candy shop here. We are always looking for Boston baked beans and they have them here! Love their selection. They help you scoop everything in a bag, it's not self-serve, so people aren't contaminating the candy.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in this past Saturday with my girlfriend on our own self-made food tour. We stopped by to grab a couple of things both for home and for my girlfriend to take with her mother on their trip to Europe this week. The customer service was friendly and quick. And the candy of course was really good. I'm sure I'll return to grab some more when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Candy lover's heaven! A wall of sugary goodness awaits you at La Huerta. I looked at all these bins of candy and settled on the 4D gummy fruit and bears. The man at the counter was so nice to give me a sample. Fresh and delicious. I paid about $4 for a bag of assorted gummies and it was worth it. People around me were ordering chamoy candy, I'm not sure what that is, but it looked spicy and sweet at the same time. So much candy to pick from to satisfy your sweet tooth.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has a ton of mouth-watering candy temptations. It's a Candy store not a produce store. Customer service is nice. The selection is huge. It's clean and they have some of the rare to find items such as "sugar cane" peeled and ready for anyone to chew-on. They have mango-chamoy and pig skins! This place is in the grand central market. The ambiance of the open market is an open invite that entices any attendee to come and try some of their goodies.

Yelp
Any kind of candy that you want, you will find it here at La Huerta Candy Shop. The gentlemen that helped us was very kind and helpful. My kids had a big smile on their face as they got to select their own candy bag. The candy is sold by the pound, so you can get as much or as little as you want. In our experience, all of the candy that was chosen was fresh and easy to chew. Just throwing that out there.

Yelp
When my fiancee and I came to Grand Central Market, La Huerta caught our eye as there's nothing quite like Mexican candy. They have such a huge selection of candy of all varieties. The workers are so friendly and nice to their customers. With so many options to choose from, they were patient and helped give us recommendations. We ended up ordering the Chilacayote which is pretty amazing! If you've got a sweet tooth downtown, La Huerta will help satiate your cravings!
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
Located inside the Grand Central Market this stall provides all your snackers ample variety to get your snack on. From nuts to dried fruit and more, I was mesmerized by the variety. The man behind the counter was very nice -- very patient while I finally selected the chili mangoes. These mango slices only has the chile powder on it, no sugar, or anything else. The mango slices I buy from the farmers market has sugar which I'm really not partial to -- so these worked quite well. There are other similar stall there, but I thought this one had the most variety!

Yelp
Theguy let us each (5people) get mini candy portions. Much appreciated!! Great Selection

Yelp
Who doesn't love candy? My friend and I stumbled across this place while we were exploring Grand Central Market on the weekend. La Huerta sells candy, nuts, and dried fruits by the pound. La Huerta has a huge variety of snacks in stock to Appeal to customers of all kinds. My friend and I decided to get a half pound of sour gummy worms. We got so many gummy worms for just $2 and they were so good. The gummy worms were so soft and delicious, my friend and I went through them in just a few hours. The prices were good. The variety was big. The location was clean enough. The employees were friendly. La huerta is a great place to stop by for a small snack in Grand Central Market.
google avatar

Stacey K.

Yelp
They have everything here! Dried fruits, nuts, to tamarindos. I love that they have sample packs of their treats from cocadas, camote, and it goes on and on. The prices are very reasonable and the products are delicious and fresh. I ordered their cacahuates, chocolate covered almonds (to die for delicious!), de la rosa, tamaroca, and variety pack. All under $10. I'm not one to wait until later to try my goodies. Like I said all fresh and no stale candy here. The camote was on point and cocadas melted away in my mouth. The service here was very friendly and I would love to come back again.

Yelp
I just can't pass La Huerta by without buying something. Last night it was candied sweet potatoes and some mejdool dates. Those sweet potatoes are amazing. Like gooey lumps of potatoey sugar! The dates were jumbo size and also very sweet. I say "were" because they are all gone now! Yum! They have an enormous selection of Mexican candy, dried fruit and nuts and all of it is fresh and delicious. If you don't see what you want just ask. Not everything is on display. If you have a sweet tooth and are looking for something exotic then this is the place for you! The staff are super friendly and helpful. Park in the adjacent parking structure. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Super bomb chile mango candies, and a vast selection of other goodies as well! Service was great. Highly recommend if your in LA.

Yelp
Been here two times. I was helped the first time by a younger guy and the second time by an older gentleman. They were both nice but the older gentleman seemed genuinely happy about serving customers. He didn't hesitate to offer me multiple free samples, even for things that I already said I would buy! On top of that they have a huge selection of candy and fruits. Even if you don't see something it's worth asking because chances are they'll have it! Price, service, and selection all get five stars in my book.

Sofia B.

Yelp
Amazing wide range of chile candy. The person helping me let me try one that I thought would be good which was super nice. In the end, I asked him to give me a pound of the best 3 chile candies. OMG, that chile mango is bomb!!! Now I'm obsessivley looking for a candy shop like this in San Francisco with no luck. I'd have to send La Huerta and email to see if they can ship some candy my way. Its either that or I fly back to LA for this....
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped by for the first time this week and loved it! They have a large selection of candies and treats. Arturo was really friendly and helpful! I bought a sample box of assorted candies including my favorites, cocadas and banderitas. I'll definitely stop by again the next time I'm at the Grand Central Market. Thank you :)
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best place in the world to buy candy and nuts. You can buy as much as you want no minimum. Worth checking out. Extremely low prices. Inside the exciting Grand Central Market. The stuff is knowledgeable and helpful. Nuts selection is extensive. Shells or no shells. Salted or unsalted. Roasted or Raw. Every dried fruit you can imagine. I have been enjoying the dried strawberries recently. I had not ever heard of dried strawberries. They gave me a free sample and I have been buying them ever since. Low prices and great selection makes it a fun place. I have been going there for 7 years. One of the highlights of Grand Central Market
google avatar

Yelp
I love coming here and getting my fixin' for sweets. They're really friendly and sometimes will give you a sample of something.
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
I've visited this place twice. Not all the candy is fresh. I bought a bag of jelly beans today and they tasted old and HARD.

Christopher V.

Yelp
Delicious candy best spot! If you go here get the chamoy Chile mango candy!!! Plus the guy is real nice has great customer service.
google avatar

Sandra M.

Yelp
If you're looking for guava or quince paste (cajeta de guayaba or membrillo) for your cheese board, they have it for $6 lb. Wasaay cheaper than Whole Foods!
google avatar

Eva R.

Yelp
Who doesn't love candy in bulk? They have my favorite gummy grapefruit slices here and chamoy gummy bears!!

Fatema A.

Yelp
Zero stars. I got the chili gummies and they were alright. Don't waste your money on the chemoey mango. Doesn't taste good and I found a hair in it, which made It so much worse.

Yelp
Awesome customer service!!! Very nice people and great candy ! The customer service was absolutely great! VERY endearing people

Yelp
Went in yesterday drove 2 hours because of reviews very upset was not wat I expected extremely high prices not willing to discount if your purchase variety and quantity mango con Chile texture soft very salty very expensive paid $10 a pound almost everything was 11.99 a lb I bought my son less than half a pound of gummies it was abt 6 or 7 pieces for $4.35 wow unbelievable will not return back was very unsatisfied with the amount given and the amount paid!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Tamarindo con chile, japanese peanuts, chamoy gummy bears, spicy watermelon rings... THIS IS THE MECCA OF AMAZING MEXICAN CANDY AND SNACKS!!! The gentlemen that work here are extremely nice and will let you sample if you ask. Most candy/dried fruits/and nuts are sold by the pound and you can get as much or as little as you want. this place is GOLD.

Nicholas S.

Yelp
From candies to nuts to dried fruits, this place has it all! They always have my favorite candies and the folks that work there are sweeter than the candy they sell. Perfect spot to bring your kids and have your pick of the lot. Better yet, I bought a whole pound of all different kinds of candies and got the sugar high of a lifetime! Can't pass this place up when visiting Grand Central Market.

Radicalus C.

Yelp
This is one of the few places left of the old Grand Central Market after gentrification. They have all kinds of dried fruit, nuts, and candy, in bulk. It is my go to place for my winter holiday baking. There are few, if any, other sources for the dried and or candied fruits for fruitcake, pannetone, holiday fruit breads, and the like. There is an extravagant selection of candy. Everything from sour gummi worms to chili mangos and palletons. This place is classic. Don't miss it!

steven s.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, great selection of candy, dried fruits and nuts at outrageously low prices. Has some cool spicy and chamoy dried fruits that you can't find everywhere. A must visit if you're at grand central.
google avatar

Ara H.

Yelp
Located inside Grand Central Market, they sell dry fruits, various types of granola and other dry goods. I recommend the mango with chile. The only downside is that a lot of older folks visit this stand and take forever to pick out what they want.
