The 17 Best Breakfast Restaurants In Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"The tiny panaderia and breakfast cafe Imperial Bakery might not look open from the outside. But this East End spot is definitely open, serving some of the most simple and comforting breakfasts. Most plates cost less than $10, come with handmade tortillas, and are served by someone you may or may not have imprinted upon as a grandmother. Enjoy some huevos Mexicanos while taking in the latest gossip from folks popping in and out for coffee and empanadas de piña." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

The 17 Best Restaurants In Houston's East End - Houston - The Infatuation

"La Imperial Bakery, a tiny panaderia and Mexican breakfast cafe, functions like a popular grandmother’s neighborhood kitchen table. People pop in and out, trading gossip and life updates, while plucking conchas from the pastry case or filling up personal mugs of coffee. The bright space is comfortably worn in from years of serving made-to-order huevos a la mexicana with handmade flour tortillas, bolillo with savory frijoles, and licuados to go. Head to La Imperial for a quick, quiet, and satisfying breakfast for under $10, and snag some pan dulce before leaving." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Google
Mom and Pop Mexican food joint. When you walk in, it’s like you’re going into your abuelita’s kitchen. I’m obsessed with the chicken plate currently. Her red salsa is seriously super spicy (which I love). It’s spicier than your average Chile Verde and red salsa that you get for tacos.

La Imperial is a convenient spot that's great for a quick bite. Their tamales are fantastic and a definite highlight whenever they have them. The other baked goods are decent, too. Still, being so close by makes it a convenient option, and the tamales alone are worth the visit.

Good pan dulce and even better tacos. Doña Irma is super friendly. You feel right at home when you come in. In my opinion, the tacos have a real authentic home made taste which is what I prefer. Will definitely come backs again and recommend everyone come and check it out. Seating is minimal.

Albóndigas! So delicious! Sorry, I forgot to take a photo. 😁 We tried many of the sweet bread. They were delicious! It was after 5PM when we went in and the bread was still so good and soft. Some had just been put out. I plan on going back in soon for tamales! They looked delicious!

Google
Small menu with great homemade style Mexican food. They make everything in store. The tortillas, the Mexican bread, salsa, everything! They even make miniature Mexican sweet bread in addition to regular size.

Google
Best sugar cookies I've ever had. Little slices of heaven! Also loved the peanut butter cookies and their oatmeal raisin are good too even though I don't like raisins. Can't wait to try everything they have including the breads!

Google
This is a small cute little Mexican Bakery that has the best cookies. They also make Tamales and Breakfast tacos Give them a try. Prices are reasonable

Google
Amazing! The flour tortillas were very fresh and 100% hand made. You could smell the butter and flour on them, best to eat them hot. I had a bistec plate and the flavors were sooo authentic it was just like home. Great great spot I highly recommend

Yelp
Doña Irma makes the best bread and the best homestyle foods! While this is a bakery they have a rotating lunch menu that you can order food from. While it is limited it is very delicious, I usually have the bistec with rice and beans. The food here reminds me of my moms and grandma's dinners at home. The tortillas and agua fresca are fresh made just like the bread. The staff is very attentive and service is quick. This is one of those little hole in the walls place that you run into unexpectedly. I really hope more people swing by to try some of the delicious food and pan dulce!

Yelp
Truly a hole-in-the-wall kind of place. Tiny space, kind staff. At $2 a pop, the breakfast tacos are a delicious deal. I also picked up a package of flour tortillas which weren't as soft as I'd like.

Yelp
I needed a new taco place and this hit the nail on the head. Not pretentious, not fancy, not high tech, just good ol homemade style food. I had 4 breakfast tacos (during lunch hours), they made them fresh even though they had a couple already made from the morning. Two egg an bacon on wheat and two chorizo and egg on corn. Both options were 9.9/10. The dark red salsa put them over the top! Great flavored salsa with a good amount of heat. I will be back to try some of their daily specials and other options. Very nice ladies working there, very modest place. Don't come here expecting an overpriced, overdecorated, overstaffed "Tex-mex" place. This is a diamond in the rough.

Yelp
First time here...only 2 tables very small with small menu. But very good. Its close to downtown.

Yelp
Lady at the counter was super nice and friendly. The pan dulce is tasty and affordably priced so you can get a whole bag full!

Yelp
They have the best service. The pastries here are great, and the food is even better. You must stop by

Yelp
My husband was thrilled to find this place! He grew up in Whittier CA and this bakery had some of the pastries he remembers from when he was a kid. The gal at the counter let us sample a couple - one with pineapple, the other with cream cheese. Then we saw that they make their own tamales so guess what we're having for dinner tonight? Great find, highly recommend!

Yelp
Great little place with homemade Mexican pastries (pan dulce) & homemade Mexican food. The owner is a sweet heart.

Yelp
Y'all, this bakery has tiny pastries that are not only so cute, but so tasty! The little empanadas filled with pineapple are my fave. I will definitely be going back to try other things (tamales, breakfast plates). Customer service was also great!

Yelp
Love the empanadas! The owner is a very sweet, hard-working lady. Everything I have bought has been fresh and delicious. Great deal for amazing baked goods.

Yelp
Amazing pastries. Came into get a few things and had the best customer experience. Owner super friendly.

Yelp
Delicious empanadas, marranitos, and conchas. The staff is really friendly. The staff is really friendly and attentive. My favorite bakery in Houston without a doubt.

Yelp
Hmmm..... on a positive note, it wasn't crowded. Seriously though, every type of pastry that we purchased was stale(at 10 am) Not sure how many days they may have been sitting out. They had a credit card sign in the window but when I went to pay they said they only took cash. Looks run down and not super clean.

Yelp
Very small establishment in the middle of a shopping center, but great breakfast tacos. The tacos were fresh and very inexpensive. I had a potato, egg, with onions and peppers taco. The taco was excellent with a little kick of spice. I would recommend the tacos.

Yelp
Really great homemade tamales and empanadas. If you are looking for some incredible homemade tamales...look no further. One dozen for eight dollars! You can call the day before and the lady who works their will make them fresh for you to pick up the next day! Fantastic!!! Some of the best that I have had in Houston. What a pleasant surprise find for me.

Yelp
I stopped in to get some bolillos and grabbed an amazing potato/egg breakfast taco on an awesome homemade tortilla. The lady at the counter is super sweet and told me they had fresh bolillos coming out soon, too, if i wanted to wait a few minutes. It was all super cheap, too ($1 tacos!).
