This exquisite jewel of a place created the perfect setting for our Rehearsal Dinner family gathering. I can’t rave enough about our event person, Carla Cook, and literally everyone we met. From planning, to set up, to actual celebration, the La Jolla Historical Society Wisteria Cottage was complete perfection. Thank you! We will be back❤️👏👏👏👏👏

This place is a little gem in the center of La Jolla Village! It is the restored guest house that was owed by Ellen Browning Scripps and given to the La Jolla Historical Society by her famiy. Fully restored...the interior is a museum grade display facility with very wonderful presentations on the history of the local area

Disappointing. They should advertise it as history of architecture in La Jolla.

Yelp
This is the place you go to not only see exhibitions but also to know everything La Jolla related. Thanks to my Italian friend Sofia for introducing me to this little gem a couple years ago. Today we both attended a fantastic walking tour lead by historian, former journalist and definitely fashionista, Carol Olten. The tour was dedicated to Raymond Chandler, the creator of detective Marlowe. Many of his books became successful Hollywood movies. He lived in La Jolla and also wrote a book titled Playback where the action took place in Esmeralda (the ficticious name of La Jolla in his book). During our walk Carol read some paragraphs of the book and we visited houses and buildings where either the author lived or his characters hang out. Fascinating and gave me another perspective of La Jolla past. Special moments in the tour were for me when we visited La Valencia hotel and she read a paragraph describing the lobby. I could feel myself transported to another time, a time of elegance, glamour and affluence. Another special moment was to walk to an alley following the steps Marlowe. Great job. I love this initiative and would attend more of these free events. Thanks to Eventbrite I found this!

Yelp
I love the shows the historical society creates for us. They are creative and inspiring Their openings are fun with great food and music. My favorite events are the local garden tours and the movies on the front lawn Best of all it is free

Yelp
We are thinking of attending the Mid Century Modern Homes Tour, and I called and spoke to someone who answered questions about the event. We last attended an event by the La Jolla Historical Society called the La Jolla Concourse 2023, and it is wonderful. We hope that this new event will live up to that one. If so, it will be another great day!!!

Yelp
The car show that was at the the La Jolla Shores park the greatest overlook of the ocean with the cool breeze and the feel of the sun. The look of the coastline with the many classic cars that delighted the many smiles of the event goers which came by groups . When I had arrived travel by the city bus you could see the many people that were walking towards the cove past the many eateries which you could see going down to the event. The many tents that had seen it was like something that I had seen from the golf tournaments as I got closer there was large Yaht with three engines that welcomed the many to the show. I would like to thank the La Jolla concourse group that put on one of the greatest event with many of the greatest classic and collectors cars from the high performance to the classic cars of the 1930 to the 1970s. From the front area as you entered the welcome to the event helping the many check in at the front and the VIPs to check in. The seaside area made such a great area to see the many come and tell about their cars the artists that were at the event had some of the greatest work showing such creative paintings. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer the many people and the feel of the classic cars it was of the greatest shows that I would put my seal on . For the many that came there were looks and the comments of the many cars stared in many movies and the TV shows made San Diego great of the cars made here.

Yelp
This review is specifically for the Secret Garden Tour 2022. Wow -- my new favorite San Diego event. What a great experience -- I wish they did it MORE than just once a year! I have always wanted to go, but this was my first time and it blew me out of the water. Each garden was spectacular. I asked a volunteer if the houses are this good every year and she said YES. I questioned her if that is even possible and how do they not run out of houses??? But she said yessssssssssssssss every year the gardens are just this amazing! I really like when they let you go inside the houses. I hope one day they start an event where you get to tour the insides of La Jolla homes! I would dock a star because they hosted an Instagram challenge for free tickets but I don't think they ever posted the winner...nor did they respond when I asked about it...poor social media management.

Yelp
Everyone was so helpful and their love for La Jolla was infectious. Made me think we all need a historical society everywhere we live. They totally made our trip experience richer with depth. I called them first before I left to see if there is any map of interests, the gentleman who answered was very knowledgeable, and when I went there with my mother, he was there and introduced me to the lady who knew coming events and such. Thank you everyone. I recommend all tourists and local residents to drop by time to time to guide you to love La Jolla even more!

Yelp
Just called La Jolla Historical Society and asked when they have their board meetings. Figured that was a simple question. I heard her asking someone else and then told me she didn't know. Asked if the meetings are a certain day every month, she said yes, but they change. I asked what the normal day of the month is, and she began to get irritated. I asked if she was new, and she, Carol the woman I was speaking with who answered the phone, became extremely defensive, and started criticizing me for asking questions. I said, "you work with an organization that has information, and questions are a part of it, right?" She continued to criticize me... I said I thought it was a simple question, the board meetings are public, right? She said she didn't know and wouldn't ask the other person...I simply shared I thought everyone, who works with/for organizations, knows when board meeting are. Don't know why she got mad and defensive. I was simply trying to find a way to have her be resourceful and answer my simple question. I looked online for over half an hour and couldn't find anything listing the board meeting schedule. She hung up on me

Yelp
To be honest, I wouldn't have come here if I didn't really need to use the bathroom. But I'm glad I did! La Jolla's is free to the public to see, so it's worth just dropping by before or after the beach to check it out. It's cool to see how people a century ago went to the beach wearing a full on suit. Besides pictures, there are models of homes and information about historical people after whom some parts of the city are named. May be a little boring, but I'm all for preserving local history!

Yelp
A cute little house turned museum about the history of La Jolla. I'm not a big history or museum fan, but it's a cool little place to just wander around and check out. It's interesting to see and read about the location you are currently at. Multiple rooms with plenty of pictures and descriptions. Overall, it's a nice quiet and relaxing place to check out the history of where you are currently located.
