Incredible quality theater. Intimate, great talent. The shows each season are inconsistent, some are disappointing, but some are the best plays I've ever seen! You never know which will be which, so you gotta try them all

I took myself to celebrate my birthday. I got up Sunday morning and called the public transport travel guide number to plan a trip to the theater. I wanted to see the play at a matinee showing (I don't like being out after dark). I heard the box office offers reduced tickets to seniors for seats left empty 60 minutes before showtime! I purchased a seat for $45. It was 3rd row and middle seat (due to a season ticket holder's impromptu cancelation). The day was perfect, and the staff was very welcoming. The show was entertaining, and the public transport was seamless to get me there and back before nightfall. It doesn't get much better than this for a celebration of 76 trips around the sun! ✔️💯🔥✝️😁

Google
What a great venue! Seating is very comfortable and spacious. The staff was kind and accommodating. The campus was clean and beautiful. Parking is abundant since the new parking garage completion. The staff is very patient and helped us find our way. Inedible views for picture taking or a quiet lunch. Close to shopping and restaurants.

Every single show we’ve seen at LJP has been fantastic. So much so that we became season subscribers last season (first time we ever have for any theater) and are again for the next season. We love that they choose newer plays and produce them in innovative and intriguing ways. They often move onto Broadway after premiering here.

Google
The customer service team was helpful and professional. It was easy to navigate from the garage to the venue. The seats were comfortable with plenty of leg room

Google
This theater has a good track record of producing high-quality shows. Juat saw "3 Summers of Lincoln" and loved it--the score, acting, voices, sets, and music were fantastic. New parking is just across the street at reasonable prices; about $7 for a few hours. The Weiss theater has concessions with wine, beer, canned cocktails and snacks, but can have a long line. Pro tip: get there early and pre-order for intermission.

We were actually at the Theodore and Adele Shank theatre, which is a more intimate venue. It's a great venue that makes you feel like you're part of the show.

Great play, perfect seat and service was great .. everybody super helpful. Beautiful theater and outside area! Plenty of parking!

Yelp
I love the La Jolla Playhouse! It is one of the best non profit arts organizations in the nation and regularly sends shows to Broadway. They always have really diverse programming from big musicals to thought provoking plays from a variety of playwrights. What really stands out are the risks that LJP takes. You are usually seeing newer work or world premiers. There are theaters that try to match what LJP does like South Coast Rep or CTG, but can't quite capture the magic that LJP consistently accomplishes. The best part is that they have a robust education department that gets schools in San Diego exposure to the arts which I think it important. Parking can be a little difficult. Would recommend downloading the ParkMobile app before attending because you won't get any service in the underground parking garage. Use the app to pay before you enter or after you park to save yourself a headache.

Yelp
We have seen so many great plays at this playhouse. Parking is convenient and staff is friendly. We appreciate to have this place in San Diego.

Yelp
If I could give a higher rating, I most definitely would! The entire staff is extremely friendly, especially the box office! I had physical tickets to Sasha Velour show but I left them at home in LA. I called a couple hours before the show and they were able to reprint them for me to pick up at the box office. Super friendly! The bathrooms were pretty clean and the space felt intimate and the seats were cushy. They had free parking at one of the UCSD parking structures with a shuttle that takes you to the venue. If not, it's also a short, leisurely walk there that takes about 7-9 minutes.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
It was a great experience attending a play here. It was my first visit and I will definitely come back. There were many friendly smiling staff members to assist and provide directions where to go. The parking and shuttle was so easy and seamless. The play was excellent as expected. The theatre lived up to their stellar reputation with this show. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Last night I saw Redwood at the Potiker theater. It is amazing that such well known artists such as Idina Menzel have made appearances at this playhouse. Pros: -free parking/shuttle services to the event -tickets range in price which helps people at different price points. There were even people who were in the standing section for Redwood, which I had no idea was even an option. Cons: -be careful of where you choose your seat. I sat in the balcony seat AA 210 and couldn't see 1/3 of the stage so at times I could only hear what was happening. I'm a little surprised that these seats were offered.

Yelp
Wonderful from start to finish, saw the wonderful play Indian Princessess and laughed so hard.

Miranda P.

Yelp
Love the Playhouse most plays here are fantastic except for Indian Princess what a bummer. Worst play I've ever seen.

Yelp
First time for us going to this theater. What a phenomenal performance! The actors and music were outstanding. I highly recommend this musical to anyone who is a Johnny Cash fan. I was very impressed.

Yelp
This is my second time attending a play at this theater but first time reviewing it. My daughter and I had the pleasure of seeing Matthew Broderick in the play Babbitt! Before we were even in La Jolla the playhouse kept us up to date and informed us of our evening via email. I really appreciated their notifications concerning the parking situation due to some construction in the lot. The email gave great detail in how to get to the venue and where we should park. There was a free shuttle that picks you up outside the parking garage. Everything was very simple and easy. Once the shuttle dropped us at the theater it was a short walk to the entrance. They had a nice lobby with easy access to restrooms and refreshments. The lines were typical but went quickly, I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the decor. There was a nice photo backdrop for guests to take pictures which was nice! Once we were ready to find our seats it took only a few minutes and it was very easy. The theater is not huge but every seat has a great view. The design is excellent in allowing you to see the full stage without being blocked by the guest in front of you. The play was wonderful, acting superb and the seats were comfy and leg room spacious. I would definitely come back to see another show in the future. Upon leaving the playhouse once it was over we decided to skip the shuttle and walk with the rest of the crowd to the parking garage down the street. It took us only about 10 min to get there. Everything was very easy and quick! If you get a chance to see a show here I think you will feel comfortable and have a great time. Anytime at the theater is a treat!

Yelp
Still fangirling over the play I saw the other day with Genevieve Angelson, Anna Chlumsky, Ann Harada, and freakin Matthew Broderick. What a freakin treat. I already have my ticket to see Idina Menzel next year. I can not be more thrilled to have La Jolla Playhouse in my backyard. Before seeing Babbit and purchasing my tickets for 2024, I knew La Jolla playhouse from all the other cool things they've brought to the area. I really enjoyed the immersive show they put on La Lucha downtown and getting to see Little Amal come to San Diego was so special. Their calendar is really starting to pick up after live events had to pause a few years ago. I'm so excited for their 2024-25 programs and can't wait to see what else they bring to the area.

Yelp
The La Jolla Playhouse is a live theater venue which, while small, has a big reputation for sending plays to Broadway. They don't all become hits in NYC but a substantial number have succeeded. The acoustics are very good. The sight lines are superb. The theater seating is perfectly sloped so you could see the stage even if Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sat in front of you. Well done, designers. There's a parking structure about a ten minute walk away. Easy peasy. This little theater has a big reputation and for good reason.

Yelp
My wife and I have lived in La Jolla for 20 of the past 25 years, and we have never once seen a show at the La Jolla Playhouse (OK, I DID see Pete Townshend perform there with a friend many years ago). We fixed that a couple weekends ago when we saw Here There Are Blueberries. The Playhouse itself is wonderful -- comfortable, stadium seating with clear views of the stage from wherever you might be. The show was great. The cast excellent. Enjoyed it so much that we subscribed to the rest of the 2022-2023 season. Looking forward to attending more shows soon!

Yelp
My first time here and thought it was great! Very clear parking directions on the website, and it's nice they offer complimentary parking / shuttles. The seats in the theater were comfortable. A bit hard to find the bathrooms before the doors to the inside opened if you didn't know / look around.

Yelp
First time to the La Jolla Playhouse. I really like this small and intimate theater. It provides a good view of the stage for everyone. The theater is really easy to find. Currently there is construction going on nearby so one has to park in farther garage and take a shuttle. We saw a musical named "BHANGIN' IT: A BANGIN' NEW MUSICAL" with upbeat music and was treated to a vibrant bhangra dance at the end. It has a plot that many teenagers can identify with.

Yelp
We used to have season tickets here back in 2005! OMG how it's changed since then! The theatre is still the same intimate setting but the parking lot across the way is GONE. It's now multiple high rise buildings. You now have to park like a mile away but parking is now free and a shuttle will take you to and from at no charge. The play we saw today was Outsiders. It was great! My daughter is a UCSD student and one of the perks is $15 tickets. They are only the last 2 rows but they are still great seats. No one obstructing our views. The sound and music were spot on. The will call box people and the ushers all very nice. Good refreshment... prices reasonable. Overall great show, great experience!
google avatar

Nathan T.

Yelp
Great small theater to see pre broadway shows. Went to see The Outsiders. Was a great theater with elevated seats, so even the back rows have a great view. Seats we're comfortable and plenty of leg space. Would come back here for future shows.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm enamored with the new play "to the yellow house". A wonderful and imaginative play about Vincent van Gogh in Paris and his encounter with Agostina Segatori. Deidrie Henry had an incredible presence as Agostina. Paco Tolson is captivating as Vincent. The costumes are incredible and the sets are divine. An absolute gem.
google avatar

Nadia G.

Yelp
I've seen some really good shows here with famous people like Matthew Broderick and Billy Crystal. It's very old but it's clean and the seats are well laid out and still comfortable enough.
google avatar

Jalina R.

Yelp
Recently went here to watch The Outsiders. You have to park in a parking structure, get a parking pass and shuttle to the La Jolla Playhouse. For us, it went really smooth and quick. The La Jolla Playhouse is a great venue. It has a smaller intimate feel and from where we were sitting, it seemed like there wasn't a bad seat it the house. We definitely would go here again for more shows.

Yelp
Delayed review. I came with a UCSD student friend and didn't have to pay the exorbitant ticket price, though I could have gone for the $30 under 30 (of age, we think) deal had I wanted to trek down to SD on a random week night. This however, probably inflated my rating for my perceived value of the musical. Parking was in the student lots and nobody was paying for parking although there were signs about needing permits. 3 hours later, after the showing: no parking ticket. Hordes of enthusiasts crowded the ticket booth at 730pm and we were afraid our tickets were going to be given away, since will-call tickets were supposed to be picked up earlier. Luckily we got in and got to our seats. All the seats in the La Jolla Playhouse are fantastic from what I can see. Our seats, located maybe three rows from the back and to the right was phenomenal. The theatre was packed - we wouldn't have been able to "trade" seats if we wanted to. Even though the play was to start at 8pm, the opening didn't start until about 8:15pm. I've heard great things about the production before it, and seeing the caliber and execution of this musical, I wouldn't be surprised that this is the standard. Fantastic venue and plays are to be had here!

Yelp
Amazing venue, I went for the first time a couple of months ago and enjoyed the Lempicka show a lot! Even more because I was invited by a friend that is member of the Playhouse so I got to know more about the history of the center, when was created, what types of shows they do there. I avoided parking nightmare by taking Uber, but then I noticed there were some buses that would take people to their parking lots. Pre-show, while waiting for my friend I enjoyed a walk around the mini forest that surrounds the playhouse, smells sooo good and you will have some whimsical objects here and there. I really enjoyed also seeing the actors so closely as the whole theater is and feels very intimate and homey.
google avatar

Yelp
Got invited here for the second time to watch a live reading of Native voices to awaken my inner native spirits. All the company and playwrights were amazing, I can't wait to go back and watch their series in June where they will have more show dates.

Yelp
Beautiful theatre complex on campus of University of California, San Diego, located at the Revelle entrance. I didn't see signage for parking, but there is parking across the complex, and also there seems to be parking to the right just as you enter the Revelle entrance. Gorgeous not-for-profit theatre originally founded by Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, and Mel Ferrer. There's even a Gregory Peck Park...lovely landscaping and electronic marquees with beautifully-designed scrolling posters posted along the walkway with signage that helps get you to James' Place, the Asian fusion restaurant next to the playhouse. A great place for pre-show dining. Box office was very accommodating and nice. I wanted a souvenir old school ticket, instead of a computer printout with barcode...and it wasn't a problem to swap it out. Also, the souvenirs for DIANA, the new musical about the Princess of Wales, were beautifully made albeit expensive. The Mandell Weiss Lobby is cool with well-lit posters of productions. The production values here are top notch. The seating about 500 (?) are comfortable, but it's continental style so if you don't like feeling trapped, buy a seat near an aisle. My ticket was for center of the last row (Row P) and cost about $60. This was my first time to the theatre. Worth the three-hour drive from Los Angeles. Looking forward to another theatrical adventure soon.
google avatar

Hiral S.

Yelp
Was here this weekend to see a musical - Bhanging it! Parking was a breeze because of the detailed instructions and you can either walk (7 mins) or take a shuttle. The theatre was small enough that there is really no bad seat and very comfortable chairs. There is no concession stand inside the theatre but there is a food and drink stand outside.. The challenge is there is not enough time for most people to get their beverage or food and make it back in time for the show. That is the only reason to take a star away. Please don't let this not make anyone not go to enjoy this wonderful theatre.
google avatar

Avelino C.

Yelp
Not a good play. Gave me a headache. I would've given it one star but it is obvious that they tried so hard. I have seen high school musicals that were better. I actually saw an elementary school musical that was better.
google avatar

Keith A.

Yelp
Historic and cutting edge theater. A great place to experience high caliber talent and Broadway level production values. We are fortunate to have this jewel in our midst. Enjoy!

Michael L.

Yelp
Saw Babbitt. This is a review of the show and performance, not the venue. Venue could use a coffee cart serving some espresso to keep you awake for this show. My words are simple: Flat, low energy, mediocre acting, and disconnected set design. I've seen better HS productions. Save your money for something not hyped up.
google avatar

Lawrence C.

Yelp
Great visibility from almost all seats. Good shows, and plenty of ushers to assist. Only negative is the parking situation which can be horrendous as you park in the back 40, or worse, looking for a spot. Drinks and snacks are available in the foyer outside the theatres. All in all, a very nice venue among a pleasant environment and will look forward to returning for the shows.

Yelp
Having lived in very close proximity to this playhouse during my years at UCSD, I am quite sad that I rarely took advantage of the spectacular shows and musicals that were held here. It is a little known fact, but the playhouse is a prestigious establishment having won hundreds of awards and having been recognized internationally for producing some of the best and most unique performances. For crying out loud, students can attend shows for $10! And depending on its popularity, there's a possibility of forking out $80 if you're a non-student, most especially for musicals! Expect to encounter a more affluent and older crowd here. You must abide by theater etiquette at all times, so you are only allowed to leave the theater during intermission. Make sure you make show time or they won't let you enter! The most memorable performances had to have been *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* and *Freaky Friday*. The cast was SO talented, the sets so enveloping and completely dazzling. Each and every show sparks some very deep fascination within me and I'm really SO influenced to seek out and attend another show. Look up their current season and buy tickets in advanced now! I believe you can purchase for as little at $25, for tickets in the back sure, but the sound is so perfect wherever you sit and the theater already so small that you'll have optimal viewing at any seat.

Yelp
Seriously, I've never done a review for LJP? Bad Subscriber! We've been coming for years, what is wrong with me?! If you want to see great quality theater, this is it. Tons of shows start here before heading to Broadway. We saw Tommy, Dracula the Musical, 700 Sundays with Billy Crystal. Too many to even remember quickly. We even saw I Am My Own Wife twice, first as a Page to Stage production, and then later in the full Broadway production. The shows here are often premieres written for the theater, or a special production in cooperation with another theater company. They definitely like to innovate new works, and push boundaries. Sometimes that doesn't work, and you occasionally get a bizarre production. But not that often, mist of the shows are good. There are the 3 theaters: Mandel Weiss Theater, the standard, proscenium arch theater used for musicals and the larger productions; Forum, thrust sunken stage used for small, edgier productions; and the Potiker Theater, a convertible black box used for specialty shows with unusual staging. The parking is pretty easy, and costs $2 for weekday shows (weekends are free parking). Give yourself some extra time if 2 productions are running on the same night, because you might have to walk a ways!

Yelp
Artists collaborate at the highest level to engage an audience and deliver thought provoking messages for theatre productions.. The La Jolla Playhouse delivers highly sophisticated performances right here in San Diego. I was fortunate enough to work behind the scenes at this world class playhouse in the early 1990's through the UCSD Theatre program. Let me tell you, a lot of time is spent planning, rehearsing, collaborating and refining every detail of a play. Set designers work with tools and art supplies to create elaborate, eye catching sets. The lighting designers have precise control of their tools and are able to set the mood with their craft. The costume designers transform bought, borrowed and re purposed materials into stunning attire that the actors use to deliver their magic. And that is not all, a live orchestra's live performances in this acoustically engineered playhouse borders on sensory overload. The explosive performances at the la Jolla Playhouse showcase the mastery of the craft of theatre. Raw theater is always evolving, no two shows are identical. Before showtime audiences arrive and many have educated discussions about their conception of the relevant play over a glass or two of wine. The La Jolla Playhouse is a fantastic venue for a cultural and educational experience that will leave you pondering your conceived reality.

Yelp
Friday night came in to watch a play "A raisin in the sun." I told my friend lets go watch it, I read this book in High school and I would loved to see how its unfolds on stage! The show was supposed to start at 730pm, but due to technical difficulty it was delayed for sometime. Personally, I careless of its "backdrop" projector. I think the director of this play, has makes it like a film senses of it played out before the eyes. Again its their approach and of keeping it "technology" savvy except, they fails to check the equipment before the audiences has comes in and seated. Shows rather a lacking of details if you asked me. My friend then told me its a play performed by college kids. Regardless, I think. The person who play the mama was stiffed. Again, college kids missed the detailed to played it well. They need to know these attentions to details will constituted how a great play played out. This was my 3rd time coming to this theater, and this was by far the worst play I have seen that was played there.

Pam A.

Yelp
Great place to catch productions when they're in town. Sometimes the parking is free, if not there's a machine in the lot that takes credit cards. Make sure you subscribe to their emails so you can be one of the first ones to hear about a new show. There really isn't a bad seat in the house and the prices are pretty reasonable.

Danya C.

Yelp
Worse playhouse ever. They can't start there damn play on time. People are having phone ring. Nicole was very rude and will want her fired asap. She screaming at people to do what's she wants. I will make sure this person gets fired. The play I saw had smoke no warning on program about smoke and had health problems afterwards. Going to talk to a lawyer about this to see if I should sue

Yelp
Great production at La Jolla Playhouse. We are very impressed with the quality of the production. I am a newbie to San Diego and am loving the theater options here. The set is amazing. The voices strong and wonderful. The dancing is top notch. See it if you have a chance.

Yelp
I have seen lots of great plays at the La Jolla play over the years. My one star is not about the plays or the theater it's self but the box office . I saw this add in the reader for a show there are 20.00 dollar tickets if you call the box office. I called the box office and they said there where no more 20.00 seats left at the lowest price is 46.00 dollars thank you good buy. I whent online and wow look there where 20.00 seats available so I bought two. I hate to be lied to more than any other thing on earth. I understand how the theater world works and the need for money . They could have up sold me in a more tack full way. Like yes we have 20.00 tickets left however where trying hard to make are budget this year can I up grade you.. Once you lose trust in me it's over so buyer beware of the old bait and switch . The cheap seats had about 30 seats empty in it that night.

Yelp
I've been here for several shows already, and I definitely wouldn't hesitate coming back to this venue again in the near future. It's a very nice theater. And a trip here wouldn't be complete without a drink. They have a restaurant called James' Place just by the entrance to the theater, and they were manning the concessions prior to the start of the show. Reasonable prices for the area, and they're very courteous. Parking is free on weekends. And when it isn't free, it's very cheap. There isn't a bad seat in the whole theater. I sat in the back section, and it was still great. There are 2 different entrances and exits upstairs, so don't feel too pressured to crowd into or out of a one way. Tips: - The best and most affordable method of buying tickets is to personally visit the box office. There is a $2 processing fee for tickets. If you ordered them over the phone, the fee per ticket would be $7.50. - Live shows are getting edgier, so it requires a more open-minded approach. Most patrons tend to be older people who, frankly, are used to traditional theater. If you Yelp, you are likely to be younger or have a younger soul. Let's show that young people love live theater!
google avatar

Sally M.

Yelp
I've been to the La Jolla Playhouse a few times to watch musicals with my mom. It's a smaller theatre so every seat is a good seat. I'd recommend not to sit directly in the first row if there are elaborate sets since you won't be able to see the full set as you'll be slightly lower. The productions here have been pretty good, but don't expect a Broadway show. The shows I've been too are usually smaller productions and those just starting out. They do offer some snacks and drinks, but don't expect the ability to buy a meal. Last time we were there, they had live music and free beer tasting before the show started so that was a nice touch. Parking is free on weekends, otherwise you have to pay for parking.

Yelp
A great venue to see a play. Saw John Leguizamo here and it was hilarious and outstanding. A more intimate theatre. Worth coming to. Parking is free on the weekends.

Yelp
Came to see the play "The Cake" a month or so ago. Loved everything about this place. Affordable venue, amazing play, engaged crowd. Parking is a bit of a pain, but what are you gonna do.

Yelp
Dating Lesson Learned: It's hot when a date defends you! On with my "play" date story: We each arrived separately on a rainy Wednesday night. There's plenty of parking around the La Jolla Playhouse (located in the Revelle side of the UCSD campus). I took my camera with me (because I'm a crazy Yelper) and took a photo of my parking number. Then I went to the machine, entered my parking number, and paid $2 on my credit card. Good thing I took a photo of my number! Everyone was forgetting their numbers left and right or forgot to even remember it all together (like my date). Then I went to will call. When ordering online, you can have it mailed to you or held at will call. I chose not to have the option of forgetting my tickets at home (though they can reprint it for you I heard), so will call it was and it took no more than a minute for the guy to hand me my envelope. With tickets in hand, we both entered and took our seats. Since Little Miss Sunshine was selling like crazy, we sat in row K, near the end. I have to say, there's really no bad seat in the house because I could see the actors perfectly from where we sat. I would have posted some pictures of the inside but one of the usher ladies made me delete them. All I took a picture of was the stage and seats--with the curtains closed! She said set was copyrighted. It was not my place to argue and I don't mind deleting my photos at all but I thought it was excessive since there was nothing on stage except one presentation stand. My date felt she was a little aggressive and tried to defend me and make me feel better. He's sweet and that was hot! I was fine with it (but -1 star still). When the play started and the curtains lifted, I loved the staging right away. Great sets. The musical numbers were pretty impressive and I loved the Little Miss Sunshine musical. For a small playhouse, the production value is pretty high!

Yelp
Dear production staff of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots: I realize you are very super duper important and that you think it is necessary to TALK through the ENTIRE EFFING PLAY to make changes and make sure it's exactly what you want.... But when I (and the entire second-to-last-row) pay $75 for a ticket I'm (we're) paying to hear the actors singing, not your chit chatting. I don't care if you're a famous musician (Wayne Coyne) or a famous director (Des McAnuff) or a lacky MFA student at UCSD. It's srsly rude and distracting. Dear House Manager of the La Jolla Playhouse John Craft: Thank you for listening to and hearing my complaint during intermission and thank you for promptly moving my friend and I away from the noisemakers in the back row. I have never experienced anything other than amazing customer service at the La Jolla Playhouse and - besides the world class production and artistic vision of the playhouse - it keeps me coming back year after year. Kindly yours, A longtime patron who will continue to hold you in highest regards. :-)

Yelp
Located admist UCSD's campus is this small theatre. Perfect for watching a play in a more intimate setting. Each season has different performances. Some may not interest you. Some you may love. So pick wisely. There are a number of different theatres within the playhouse. Some nicer than others. Overall it's not a very fancy playhouse however still nice and enjoyable. Some useful information: -PARKING- Free on weekends. Minimal charge on weekdays, don't forget your stall number before paying. -PLAY TIMES- Tuesday and Wednesday: 7:30 pm Thursday and Friday: 8:00 pm Saturday: 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm Sunday: 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm -EATS & DRINKS- There is a Wolfgang Puck restaurant open on performance nights or have an early dinner and cocktails at one of the many nearby places before arriving. There are also bar drinks and small snacks served an hour before showtime and during intermission, not a large variety, at the theatre.

Yelp
Can I give five stars to the theater and two stars to the program they use for purchasing tickets on the website? We've been to LJPH four times in the past year. I think that makes us pretty regular customers. The theaters are well designed, the shows are interesting and the ticket folks are great in person or over the phone. So I thought I'd take my son to see Second City. (They were great!!! Here through September 1. Don't miss it.) So I figure I'll just buy the tix on-line. What a headache. There are different prices for different categories of people. Standard issue, students (my son), under 30, military, senior (me). You with me? You'd think the computer program would accommodate people buying different tickets in the same purchase. Bottom line: I wasted time trying to figure it out, was completely frustrated and just ended up buying two standard tickets. Four nights later they called. Aha! They're calling to apologize (I had sent an irate email). But no-o-o-o. Some poor guy is calling to get me to subscribe to the upcoming season. Jeez guys. Can't you get one of those UCSD computer science wizards to write a program that is user friendly?

Yelp
Amazing venue for plays! These are pretty high production quality. parking is across the theater and costs only $2. I am definitely subscribing to their newsletter and coming back when I can. Stay cultured in arts and theater at the La Jolla Playhouse.

Yelp
I saw the most demented piece of modern theatre ever produced here at The La Jolla Playhouse. It was Happy Days by Samuel Beckett sometime in 1996. The whole play's bent... but the really twisted part (twisted as in the movie 'Pi' or 'Requiem for a Dream', if you catch my drift) is this 130 Decibel alarm bell that goes off every once in a while... 130 decibels, by the way, is the threshold of pain in human hearing. By the time you're halfway through the play, you start whimpering in utter fear that this alarm is going to go off and hammer the inner core of your brain. Meanwhile, the actors remain nonchalant as ever, not even noticing this evil menacing sound. I have since moved from San Diego, and there are several things I miss dearly. If I lived there now, though, I can assure you I'd have season tickets to La Jolla Playhouse because its productions (this play and others I've seen that were equally good, albeit not nearly as marking) truly make going to the theatre pure joy.

Yelp
This is a nice small theatre to see a play. The parking is free except on weeknights which is a little bit of a negative. Both performances that I've seen here have been entertaining and the ticket prices are reasonable.

Yelp
What a gem of San Diego! La Jolla Playhouse has two theaters where they play a variety of shows throughout the year. Both theaters are small enough to create an intimate vibe where you feel truly connected and engaged with the actors. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Not sure why there aren't more young people interested! What makes this theater a 5 star venue: - reasonable ticket prices $20-50 (discounts available for students and individuals younger than 30) - ample parking close by ($2 on weekdays and free on weekends) - clean theater - nice restaurant next door called James Place, an Asian fusion joint to grab food and drinks before the show - a small set up bar near the entrance to grab a drink before the show - they have a "meet the actors" session after the show to discuss the play and have the audience ask questions
