Insanely Cheerful Coffee Shop La La Land Kind Cafe Pushes Kindness in Houston’s Montrose | Eater Houston

"Walking into Montrose’s new La La Land Kind Café, I was met with a boisterous welcome of cheers and customized compliments — “I love your hair!” and “Your outfit is amazing!” — and even a send-off of “We love you,” a playful, sometimes disorienting culture that’s intentionally part of the experience. The bright, Instagram‑worthy space in the Montrose Collective has yellow accents, a “happy window” for coffee service, and cheeky merch (t-shirts, hats, mugs) reading things like “Don’t be a dick” and “Just be fuckin kind.” The menu skews breakfast-forward with takeaway chia and oat puddings, strawberry toast, chilled milk dispensers for iced drinks, and signature beverages such as the Perfect Latte (espresso, milk, and a “secret sauce”) and the Lavender Bloom (iced coffee or matcha with vanilla and purple lavender syrup). Fancy toasts include the La La Classic avocado toast topped with lemon and chile flakes and a sweet hazelnut‑butter toast layered with a Nutella‑like spread, strawberries, and bananas. The kindness-first business model is sincere: beans and a small-batch, ceremonial‑grade matcha from long‑standing family farms in Japan are fair‑trade and purchased above market price, and hiring practices intentionally support foster youth through an eight‑week paid internship offering training, mentorship, and assistance with job placement, housing, schooling, and therapy (one graduate from the Heights location now works full time). With a social media footprint of nearly 6 million followers and dozens of reels that have amassed over a billion views, the brand’s kindness drive‑bys and viral content have helped fuel demand for this second Houston outpost, which has already welcomed guests ahead of its Aug. 20 grand opening and will be open daily from 6:30 to 7 p.m." - Brittany Britto Garley

Dissappointed with the iced lululemon latte with extra shot from here. Taste watery (I asked for less ice btw). The barista doesnt know how many oz per shot. Total is $6.10 for 16oz cup. The small oven was broken, so i cant order almond croissant. The grab and go is broken as well. Place is clean. Friendly customer service yes. I saw alot of catering. Good business for them but quality is not there. It means a strong marketing team. Need to improve their quality alot.

We absolutely love La La Land! Royal was so super patient going through menu offerings with my daughter and elderly mother. She was knowledgeable about every menu item we inquired about! We all agreed her recommendations were spot on! The queen avo toast is a fave, I love to add sliced egg. Turkey Egg and Cheese Egg bites are even better than that other place and oh em gee the almond croissant rivals what I enjoy in Paris! Our food was great and came out quickly. Even though it was quite busy, it seemed to flow nicely. I love how bright it is inside and all of the fun details down to the heart-shaped straw!

Google
The truffle burrata avocado toast is fantastic. They have ceremonial grade matcha!! The in house chia pudding is also super yummy. Only thing is parking can be difficult as the surrounding streets fill up quickly & I have waited several times 20+ min for my drink as this location is extremely busy.

Google
Coffee was great, customer service is lacking. Everyone was talking behind the counter, took a long time for them to be attentive to the register with two people waiting for drinks, and a line at the register. They didn’t seem to care for there jobs and the customers.

Google
This is my favorite place for Matcha. It’s very aesthetically pleasing and great for instagram photos. The staff is always well trained and so kind. They have seasonal matcha drinks as well as other coffee options like chai or whatever your preference. My go to order right now is a large iced banana top matcha with white chocolate and one pump of caramel, trust me when I say this delicious. It’s almost like drinking a banana pudding caramel pie. The coffee beans they have for sale are a must buy to take home and enjoy! There’s seating outside where you can work or relax. This location is very walkable and perfect for a mid day stop! This place brings an LA vibe to Houston. Thank you!

Google
Excellent Service from Jasmin at LaLand I always enjoy visiting LaLand, but Jasmin truly elevates the experience. She’s welcoming, attentive, and consistently delivers fantastic service. My drink was made perfectly — easily one of the best I’ve had — and she prepared it with genuine care. On top of that, she has a great sense of humor and brings a positive energy that makes the whole visit more enjoyable. Jasmin is the kind of barista who can brighten your day without even trying, and it’s clear she takes pride in what she does. Highly recommend stopping by and letting Jasmin craft your drink. She’s outstanding.

Google
For a place that charges $8 dollars for a toast you would expect the toast to be life changing, especially if you waited 20 minutes for it, except i ended up receiving the wrong toast. I ordered the M.A.K.A toast and got the hazel nut toast… this toast ended up being hard, dry, and old. Usually i wouldn’t care about old bananas because they are still good, but damn you could’ve gave me a nice banana for aesthetics AT LEAST. The wait for the toast didn’t really bother me as much because i work at a restaurant and know whats it’s like to hope & pray the customer has grace for me, but this was just unacceptable & sad.

Yelp
What a cool and kind cafe on Montrose! I love the branding, bright yellow colors and the fun kind concept of the cafe. I've never been to it in LA so it was cool to check it out in Houston. WHAT I ORDERED chocolate croissant Not as flaky as I'd like, it was still good after it's warmed up. Their drinks looked good, I'll try it next time. Merch are on point focusing on don't be a dick, be kind, lalaland very LA concept. I liked it.

Yelp
I love the color yellow and cafes...so La La Land Kind Cafe was the perfect place to visit! I absolutely loved the interior! It was the perfect off white/beige color and their iconic yellow. The store had merch on the walls: mugs, cups, t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, etc. Everything was so cute! I got the lavender bloom matcha latte and my bf got the butterfly matcha latte. I think I would've rather enjoyed just the matcha, as the lavender overpowered the matcha taste. However, the drink itself was good and not too sweet! My bf said his drink tastes like the sweet milk left after finishing cereal! I'll have to come back and try their la la matcha latte. The only downside was that you have to park in a pay to park garage and the store itself is pretty small. Considering this being a popular place, it was packed.

Yelp
The yellow coffee cup When you think of the color "Yellow" the first thing to come to your mind is joy, youth, beauty, intelligence, creativity and optimism. Have you thought about coffee too? Now you will think in a delicious la la land coffee Elaborated with natural ingredients, I loved the "Lavender Bloom Matcha Latte" you can find the classics as matcha shots, matcha cappuccino, matcha latte, la la latte, french toast latte, espresso, americano, cappuccino, latte and cold brew. The customer service is friendly and kind, the ambiance is relaxing to stay there and wait to drink a coffee with Ryan Gosling. https://alealerestaurantreview.blogspot.com/2024/04/la-la-land-kind-cafe.html

Yelp
Worth all the hype. So sad they don't have one in my state! It was busy on a Sunday but worth the wait
google avatar

Yelp
I love both locations. We came by after getting brunch nearby. Definitely needed a wake me up after brunch. Similar decor but this location was a bit smaller. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered one of my faves, the strawberry matcha. I love their matcha series. Always hit the spot. I love the pink cup and their heart straws. Hope they open up more locations around Houston.

Yelp
I have been craving Avocado toast for a long 2 days and came across La La Land in midtown. This is a cute lil corner spot cafe. Sunshine yellow and positive vibes to just love one another! Theres no seating inside but theres outdoor seating. I grabbed my Avocado toast with hard boiled egg and a strawberry fields matcha. Not a huge fan of match but when its mixed with something sweet; its pretty good. The avocado toast is big enough for 2 ppl or save some for later. The ladies behind the counter were nice and fast with getting my order out. This place is OCD clean. They also have mugs, hats, clothing with positive quotes; love that!
google avatar

Yelp
I've only been here a couple of times and each time I try a different matcha latte. So far I've loved each matcha latte. Probably the best matcha lattes I've had in Houston. I've had their February limited time strawberry shortcake matcha latte and also their french toast matcha latte, both so good! I also see their tiktoks about spreading kindness and giving compliments to people and it really warms my heart.

Kaitlyn S.

Yelp
Such a fun experience! Coffee was excellent, cutest cups I've ever seen, the heart straws and cup stoppers were the perfect touch! Service was super quick. Only negative was the cleanliness inside the cafe. The outdoor seating area was perfect, happy we stopped while in town!
google avatar

Caitlin L.

Yelp
This is my favorite café! The interior is very luxurious and unexpected for a café, but I particularly really enjoyed the outdoor dining seats. Maybe it was the sun shining there, but La La Land was the perfect way to start my day in Houston, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! My bf and I shared a hot La La Latte with a chocolate croissant, and it was so tasty. Service is respectful, and I highly recommend this spot.
google avatar

Yelp
The Lala land in Shepherd has always been my favorite place for an upside down latte. Came across this location and decided to stop by with my best friend for her bday. Food and drinks were equally delicious as the original location. We had an upsidedown matcha latte and my friend had butterfly matcha latte and to eat we had the Lala dream toast. All delicious! This location does not have indoor seating, unfortunately. This is the only downside of it. All seating is outdoor which makes it impossible to come for a coffee and light bites and stay. This location is best for on the go, unless weather is cooler.

Yelp
Order completely messed up ... missing items, hot instead of iced... Maka Toasted not toasted for $8.50

Yelp
It makes me so happy that there are multiple locations of La La Land Kind Cafe that are opening up throughout Houston because it's one of my favorite cafes. All of the drinks that I have tried from here have been so good. This is located in a very nice shopping area. You can self-park in the garage and then walk over. This location is smaller compared to the one in the Heights, and the only seating is outdoors. It's great for a quick grab-n-go. I got the hot s'mores latte from here and it is SO GOOD. I got it with espresso too. I got it on a cold day after running, and it really hit the spot. It felt like a warm hug in a cup. Service is quick and everyone who works here is very friendly. If you've never been to a La La Land Kind Cafe, then I HIGHLY recommend you try this place at least once.
google avatar

Alyssa E.

Yelp
2nd time coming here, and my fav from them is the Matcha Strawberry latte! Super yummy. Concept of the place is trendy and merch inside are cute and decorations are IG worthy. Overall great vibes. Seating outside!
google avatar

Daysi L.

Yelp
No idea what this was but i thought it was gonna be sweet. Service was fast and the barista was so beautiful and nice i loved her. This is more of a pickup and go outside place. I didn't love the coffee honestly cannot remember what it tasted like so it was probably a lil watery. It was okay but nothing crazy. I think the hype is more around the packaging and branding of this place.
google avatar

Grace Y.

Yelp
I've had my eye on La La Land ever since I passed by one of their locations last year. The drinks are creative and beautiful, and the interior is always aesthetic and I love the white & yellow theme. I had a hard time settling on a drink, and ended up going with the Upsidedown Latte. While it was a cute drink, I added a lot of sugar packets to make it to my liking ,and even then there wasn't necessarily anything special about it. My friend raved about the Butterfly Matcha Latte and loved it so much that she got one to-go too. This location has no seating inside, and has limited seating on the outside. Definitely worth a visit, but I would definitely try another drink next time.
google avatar

Kate U.

Yelp
Very cool & vibrant store with extremely nice staff and lots of fun drinks to order. I ordered an upside down latte and an lavender bloom matcha latte and overall both drinks were just okay. I'm a big lavender latte enthusiast and was disappointed my lavender matcha latte tasted like watered down matcha and definitely no lavender. I don't recommend the matcha, but the coffee was nice!!
google avatar

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because my cold brew was solid. --- --- --- My wife loves La La Land because they make some kind of Oat Milk Latte that she can't get enough of. While I can appreciate fancy drinks like this, I've really become quite boring at this stage of my life when it comes to coffee. I pretty much just drink it black. If you'd have told me 8 years ago that I would be saying this, I never would have believed you. But I have conditioned myself to drinking my coffee black, and now anything something is added to it, it feels like I'm drinking a milkshake (and not in a good way). So their lattes are great (I can attest via my two sips), and their cold brew is good. Fine. Nothing great, nothing awful. What the 4-star rating was invented for. We ended up buying some coffee beans to grind at home -- Eutopia and Cloud 9. I thought both were great, especially Eutopia, which prompted my wife to go back and buy a couple more jars (jars, not bags) of it when she was in the area.
google avatar

Jasmin G.

Yelp
I love La La Land, so when I realized there was a different location than the one I usually go to, I decided to try it out. The place is a bit smaller than the other location. The staff was friendly and the drinks were delicious. The toasts were great, but I will say they do add quite a bit of avocado on the toasts, so it can be a bit heavy. Overall, definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Neat little place. Small tables outside and couches with tables. People were nice and drinks were good.
google avatar

Yelp
The coffee is horrible The worst coffee I can ever think of in my entire life I have never had such awful coffee ever in anywhere of the place The service is ok The store is typical their design yellow yellow and yellow The purple bloom rain or sth Do me a favor Please do not order it
google avatar

Yelp
This is my ultimate favorite coffee shop! It's great that it's walking distance from where I currently reside and it makes the trek worth it every time! I'm a huge matcha fan so I tend to always gravitate towards the la la matcha latte with almond milk. I've tried the butterfly pea matcha latte and wasn't a huge fan of it. The only downside to this location is the lack of indoor seating and there's only street parking. The other location has phenomenal decor and ample parking. They make the drinks fast and I never have to wait too long either. They also gave my dog a pup cup and a "la la pup" bandana which was super kind of them!
google avatar

Charlotte C.

Yelp
Very good coffee! Love the vibes here and the message they represent. I do wish they had better breakfast options, very slim.
google avatar

Jasmine J.

Yelp
Such a cute place with very friendly staff. The layout and overall style of the place is very bright and welcoming. The coffee and drinks were like any other coffee shop. I enjoy the cute cups with each purchase. Check it out. Very photo-ppt

Yelp
La la land kind cafe in the Heights is 1 of my favorite coffee shops so I HAD to come to the new Montrose location grand opening. Luckily I came at a good time and the line wasn't too bad. Nestled in the Montrose collective shopping center, across the street from Katz, this is a great location for sure. Parking is a little scarce here on the streets, but luckily there's a parking garage. La la land is kind enough to validate your parking ticket for 1 hour as well. As far as drinks goes, I prefer the coffee drinks over the matcha. But regardless of what you order, they've always been consistently good for me. Today I tried their iced french toast latte w/ almond milk and la la froth on top. Perfection. If you weren't having a good day, this place will surely put a smile on your face. All of their food/drinks are served with kindness, enjoy! Side note: There's no indoor seating here, and only outdoor patio type seating. Not ideal for studying or getting work done on a laptop.
google avatar

Fumi B.

Yelp
La la land kind cafe is a cute coffee shop located in the Montrose Collective on westheimer. I went for their grand opening today where all drinks are 50% off. This spot is more of a grab n' go coffee shop unless its a beautiful day when you can enjoy the outdoor seating as there is no seating inside. They specialize in matcha & regular unique iced lattes and their drinks are pretty/insta-worthy. They also have regular and hot lattes as well. I would've loved to see other patries aside from croissants and muffins (just lots of bread) such as cookies, macrons, etc. They also offer various toasts like avacodo toast. I ordered the cookies n cream iced latte with matcha and a cinammon roll (which was croissant based). I love that they have a lot of non-dairy options for everything like oat milk. That was my ~first matcha drink so it was interesting! I def. would return again to try other drinks when I plan to stroll in the area since parking is not straighforward- I parked in the parking garage (not free) and thankfully Lala Land validated my parking for an hour (not sure if this was just for grand opening). The staff had good positive energy- I like their mission of spreading kindness.
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Great coffee with streamlined ascetics. Great quality and execution. Team is changing frequently
google avatar

Agnes Williams G.

Yelp
Got a few extra cool mom points for bringing my teen daughter here. Not to mention the drinks were pretty good!
google avatar

Yelp
Really friendly stuff! The coffee and oats are all amazing! Such a chill place to get a delicious drink.
google avatar

Moni T.

Yelp
This location is located inside of the Montrose Collective, a very new establishment in the Montrose area. This location guarantees a relaxing time for you to enjoy a cup of handcrafted coffee, with beautiful and clean interior and lovely outdoor seatings, quiet and no wait line. There are also other new stores in the building: Marmo restaurant, Van Leeuwen ice-cream, Reformation and gorjana across the stress, and other high-end clothing stores. I highly recommend the Lavender Bloom Latte, it not only looks beautiful with the layered colors but also uniquely delicious with a hint of the floral taste in every sip. Their blueberry muffin is great as well, moist, buttery and huge in size. So glad they opened a location in the Montrose area, we will definitely come back here again. Parking was easy, free street parking or garage parking.

Bailey G.

Yelp
The vibes aesthetic and the strawberry matcha was delicious, BUT I ordered a regular avocado toast and it took 20 minutes to come out. Not only that, I went back in and asked how much longer because 20 minutes went by, they said THEY FORGOT TO PUT IT IN THE OVEN. So, I've been sitting here for 40 minutes waiting for avocado toast. The toast eventually came out and was DELICIOUS, but just upset that they forgot to make my toast. I could understand if they were busy but it wasn't even busy :/
google avatar

Angie M.

Yelp
Best almost sugar free coffee ever! Definitely recommend you stop by for a try! Great vibe for those that want to stick around. Parking not ideal.
google avatar

Jade R.

Yelp
I always have an amazing experience here! The food is great and the location is a good place to relax, get some work done, or socialize while you enjoy your coffee. Everything I've tried on the menu was excellent. I make sure to visit every time I'm in Houston
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
I truly have nothing negative to say about this place! I've been here twice and had a positive, sunny experience both times. Maybe it's all that yellow everywhere but man, this place gives major cheerful vibes. Service can be a tad slow but that's to be expected since all the drinks are made to order. The bacon egg and cheese danish is fantastic and we devoured it before we remembered to take a photo. My favorite drink here is the honey and cinnamon matcha latte- sooooo good! They validate parking for 1 hour with purchase!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Great little coffee shop in Montrose but there is nowhere to sit inside? Speciality coffees were good but they have a limited selection of breakfast pastries.
google avatar

Jackie N.

Yelp
Not gonna lie, I went here twice in a week. Was looking for a place to meet some friends and got a Regular Vanilla Latte and so toast. The vibes are seriously great, the espresso and flavor were strong and delicious, and the toast (oh my goodness the toast) was a solid 9.5/10. It's not much of a work place, not a lot of space for work stuff and it's fairly popular, more of a hang-out spot with friends. I will say it's fairly expensive? ~$6 for a flavored latte and ~$9 for a decent sized toast plate, but if you're looking for good caffeine, great vibes and photo spot, and top tier toast, La La Land is the coffee place to be!
google avatar

Aishah M.

Yelp
BRB crying. The employees who work here are the sweetest souls to ever exist. They're just all so nice and welcoming. They made my rainy and gloomy day so bright! This location stresses me out because of the parking situation. You can either do street parking, or park at a garage down the street. It was pouring rain, so I decided to park across down some random street. As I entered- everyone working was sooo chipper and sweet. They recommended the Cookies 'n Dream iced latte and then I ordered a burrata avocado toast. Both items were a 10/10! The latte was the perfect balance of coffee and the sweetness from the cookies. It was amazing. The avocado toast was delicious! I inhaled this as soon as I got in my car. As I was leaving the employees told me they loved me. LLLOLLLL. I was crying as I walked to my car. I will definitely be returning just because the service was so superb.
google avatar

Dana H.

Yelp
Ordering process is terrible. They only have 1 register open with a long line of people. Truffle avocado toast is out of this world delicious. It huge and full of ingredients.

Yelp
La La Land in Montrose?! WE LOVE YOU! Cute small shop, as compared to the Heights location. I am SO happy they moved 5 minutes from my apt. Parking can be a little iffy at times, as street parking can be packed. BUT they do offer validated parking passes, if you decide to park in garage. For someone like me, their menu can be a bit overwhelming because they all sound delicious. I have tried a few of their drinks at their Heights location, but for this review, I will only be focusing on their new drink, which is the Cookies n Dream Matcha Latte (oreo crumble, la la cloud, honey, vanilla, organic matcha, milk). I REALLY love the Cookies N Dream but with my own twist (I haven't tried it in its original state). I go ahead and sub in oat milk and add their double shot of espresso (keep in mind their espresso only comes in double, and not single!). DELICIOUS! The mixture of all ingredients make it feel like I am in the clouds. Although espresso is a very strong flavor in general, the use of oat milk and matcha provides harmony. The honey gives it a nice sweetness and honey flavor, especially within the first few sips. The la la cloud, which is their foam is just so creamy making me want more. Definitely a must try! Even my dog was trying to get a lick of it! P.S. For all my doggie parents, they do have free puppachinos for your babies!
google avatar

Tinisha J.

Yelp
This is the happiest coffee shop I've ever been. The bright yellows and tans makes the place feel warm and comfy. The outside has plenty of seating and the perfect place to enjoy a morning chat and coffee with the girls. We had the pleasure of enjoying the yummy La La Butterfly tea as well as the decadent La La Latte which is their signature coffee. Last but certainly not the least is the SERVICE! We told the staff it was our first time and we were welcomed by the team and made to feel at home. The barista's offered help with choosing our beverages. They were extremely pleasant and helpful. From now on I'll be a frequent customer!

Yelp
a very vibey coffee shop overall! loved the clean look of the store and the cups/cup holders are cute. for drinks, there is a coffee menu and a matcha menu. i tried the la la latte on the coffee menu and it was pretty good. overall though, it tasted like your typical iced coffee but pricier. next time, i would try one of their more unique items! service was quick and friendly :)
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee and excellent service! She was so helpful when I was trying to create my own drink

Yelp
I tried La La Land Kind Cafe and thought it was a nice coffee shop. Good coffee, and nice pastries--I had a blueberry muffin and liked it. It had quality food/coffee in a cute coffee shop and darling new shopping center. Side note: I'd seen it on Instagram and was expecting the effusive positivity when I walked in--while the staff was very nice, it wasn't funny like their Instagram posts.

Yelp
My KIND of cafe. Was coming out of Katz's after an early dinner and saw this cute spot and went over to investigate. The cafe was so adorable and the workers were even cuter. Ordered a butterfly latte (and got a complimentary pastry). Yay! The latte was delicious. Not overly powering but tasty. The staff were so friendly and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. I found out later from a friend that they hire foster youth and foster kids who age out. Definitely something I support. And the idea of normalizing kindness, why not? We need each other and I love this concept. There are a few more matcha lattes I want to try so will be back!
google avatar

Gia S.

Yelp
La La Land Kind Cafe is sooo cute! The people were super nice and loved finding recommendations for my boyfriend and I. I got a coffee and he got a matcha latte. Both were super good! The chia pudding was so good!! I had never had it before and i loved it! Overall I definitely will come back again. Workers were lovely.

Yelp
Went to LA LA Land Kind Cafe's during their Grand Opening and had an amazing time. Everyone was so kind, cheerful and helpful. They offer delicious pastries, toast, overnight oats and so much more. While there I had the following: M.A.K.A. Toast, Cookies 'n Dream Matcha Latte, Lavender Bloom Matcha Latte, Strawberry Fields Matcha Latte Although I enjoyed them all, my favorite item that I tried was the M.A.K.A. Toast
google avatar

Ham M.

Yelp
My flat white was served up with a heavy head of latte foam. Actually, it's just a very small latte with a high price tag. Not impressed. Then again the interior space is all up with merchandise which is odd.
google avatar

Yelp
I feel like I'm paying an arm and a leg for coffee here. Vibe is very "barbie". Coffee was delicious though and service was good.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Love this spot! The drinks are a little pricey but I love the large range of options for hot:cold and coffee/tea drinks. They have some really unique drink options including matcha and lavender flavor profiles. The avocado toast was really tasty! This is definitely a good spot for a cute coffee date or to go on the weekend mornings.

Yelp
Coffe was great, staff was great however I was not a fan of the Burrata it was also my first time trying...

Yelp
Very cute aesthetic, coffee is good but not my particular flavor profile that I prefer
