We had a Restaurant.com certificate to use so decided to give it a try. There are two doors and the one we picked was the bar. Ther patrons looked at us as we looked around for assistance. Getting none, we wandered in a bit and realized there was a restaurant section through a doorway. Entering there, it took a few minutes for someone to come out and tell us to sit anywhere.
There was a table leaving as we were sitting down and then we were the only table the whole time we were there. There were a handful of people at the bar.
The ambience is a bit of a mess. There's odd artwork (a metal painting and a paining of a giant flower that I could see). It was already a little dark inside and they turned the lights down more once we were there. It's apparently also a nightclub so there are disco and light balls and a DJ booth in the back corner--in addition to the 8 or so TVs (all tuned to some gangster movie on SpikeTv?!).
But the food was a happy surprise. After the mediocre chips (tasted a bit stale) and salsa (tasted fresh but was quite watery and needed some more salt), the dinners were quite tasty. I had the carne asada and was expecting a tiny pile of meat. Instead, I got a huge amount of grilled steak cooked pretty close to what I requested (medium rare; it was bit towards medium) and was quite tasty. Hubby got the La Luna Special and it was decent. The shrimp was a bit overcooked but the chicken and steak were good. They each came with "salads" with fresh avocado, cucumber, shredded lettuce, and a salsa mix on top--everything was fresh and tasty. The beans were meh at best but the rice was very tasty--not red Mexican rice but a yellow rice. Be aware you get large portions.
They special made tacos for our son which was nice, but I'm surprised there wasn't a kids menu with kid-friendly items.
We got a side of French fries for our daughter and they were your basic fries but they were hot and tasted decent. She was happy. We also got a pork pupusa which was my first experience with one but it was gooey cheesy and yummy.
The service was...good and bad. A girl brought our drinks, then a man took our orders, then she brought the food, he came out to check on us, and she brought boxes but forgot our to-go dessert, and he took our payment. It wasn't a big deal overall, but it was a bit of a let-down to wait 10 minutes after we paid to get the dessert figured out. We assumed the gentleman was the owner and he was super nice and friendly; I don't think we had two words from her the whole time.
Overall, I'd say three stars. It was decent but there's room for improvement.
