My experience here was a very positive one! My wife and I both loved the food. The quesadillas were to die for and the chips with salsa and queso were fantastic as well. I haven’t found better Mexican food this far north than at this joint. The atmosphere was great with music at just the right volume and plenty of natural light. In addition, our waitress was very helpful, kind and attentive. 10/10 I’d come back here again.

I came here for the 1st time yesterday for a staff lunch. We arrived around noon, and there was no wait time. Our original waiter was very friendly and attentive. There must have been confusion because it switched to a different person, but our new waitress was also extremely helpful and friendly. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and offered her suggestions. I ordered a mocktail, aguachile, and birria tacos. My coworkers ordered the ceviche, burrito, and tacos. Everything arrived very quickly by the cook, and the food we got was hot and delicious. While spicy, the aguachile was very tasty! Also, the chips, which I believe are made in-house, were phenomenal. I would highly recommend this place, and I would absolutely return. I also think this place is very reasonable price due to the presentation and quality. I also love the atmosphere, the overall design is very vibrant and modern. The design is very authentic to a lot of parts in Mexico through color, texture, and the beautiful plants throughout.

Absolutely loved our experience. I don’t think I’m being dramatic when I say these are the BEST chips I’ve ever had. The Puerco en Adobo was fantastic, add tortillas on the side! Spicy raspberry marg was the icing on cake. Vibes are fun too, the atmosphere and decor was great. Will absolutely be back.

Google
Minneapolis has some amazing restaurants I travel the world in search of delicious food and amazing places. This restaurant has the street appeal to lure you in but don't be fooled. This place is anything but delicious Mexican street cuisine. We ordered the guacamole and it's wasn't awful but it wasn't a wow factor with every bite. My lady is Puerto Rican and white and she doesn't spicy food but we love and appreciate properly seasoned food. I don't think I've ever heard her say this food has no flavor. But I fully agree the food lacked seasoning. These big beautiful higher priced restaurants just can't get it right. But Minnesota restaurants also have a tendency to cater to their clientele vs making the food the way it's supposed to be and attracting the clientele that appreciates the experience. If I'm spending $52.33 plus a tip the food gotta be worth it. We won't be back this place is mediocre at best.

Google
Our server was the sweetest. She was running the whole place, bar included, and did great while keeping her attitude positive (I’ve worked in the industry, that can be tough!) The food was really yummy and surprisingly reasonable in comparison to where we’ve been thus far on this trip. Only complaint was that the salsa was like.. shockingly small. Like, I giggled when we received it. But it was good tasting!! Had a wonderful visit, thank you!

Great option to stop into before a Guthrie show! Quick service and lots of fun drink and food options. We got some fun drinks and split some delicious nachos and queso. Great atmosphere whether you sitting in the bar or dining area.

Google
This place was average at best. We stopped at this place when we got into town since it looked good for Mexican food. The food was very average. As of the chicken quesadilla itself and the rice, it was delicious but was very oily and prepared the quesadilla in an interesting way by putting in the tomatoes in the quesadilla instead of on the side. My mother’s burrito bowl was yummy though. Their desserts were also good too with the cake slice and churros. My favorite was the atmosphere and the staff were good. Would recommend this restaurant for new people coming into town.

Google
One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. The tacos are street style, so you can never go wrong with any of the taco plates. I also recommend the tacos birria. The consome is perfect, and the plate can easily be split for two. If you’re looking for an appetizer, I recommend the fries. They’re enough for 2-3 people and are covered with the toppings. They have a range of cocktails and unique wines from Mexico’s wine region. This is a great spot for drinks or dinner before an event!

Yelp
Awesome happy hour menu! Even better on Thursdays when it's half off ALL tequila (and they have a ton of tequilas). I like that they had a lot of things on the happy hour menu. Unlike some places that have like two things. We tried the nachos and wings and margaritas. Nachos were decent, I like that you can pick the meat. It's a smaller size than the regular but more than enough for two people and for ten dollars. I'm not a fan of jalapeños but these were pickled and not spicy at all, almost sweet. The wings were just wings. Really nothing special about them. They come with two sauces for dipping. Inside is super cute and insta-worthy. Service was wonderful! I appreciate when servers make recommendations. Without happy hour, prices seemed pretty high for Americanized Mexican food. You can easily find cheaper and better Mexican food elsewhere.

Yelp
La Madre had only been on my list for a week before I caved and made an appearance for brunch. I simply could not ignore how good everything looked! We ordered Birria Tacos, a Burrito, and a bottle of champagne for mimosas. They don't have Saturday specials, so if you want the mimosa flight make sure you stop in on a Sunday! Luckily, they were still able to provide us with a similar situation. The glasses made it a little difficult to pour, but the mimosas hit the spot. Pros: Ambiance was great. I loved the interior and the lighting. This is definitely ideal for a large brunch or other group outing. Service was friendly, fast, and accommodating. Drinks were tasty. Cons: Waited awhile at the front without being noticed, glasses had dishwasher stains, and we thought the food was mid tier. I'd probably say a 6.5/10 food wise although the presentation was divine. I'm not screaming this recommendation to everyone who will listen, but I can definitely see the potential La Madre has and could see myself back here in the right situation!

Yelp
We stopped in on a Saturday at 1:30. Initial pros: good location, plenty of street parking, quick seating, cozy vibe, just-right menu (not too big, not too small). Initial cons: took forever to get our drinks & apps, waitress forgot the second salsa we ordered and disappeared (had to ask hostess for it while she was clearing, washing, and setting tables, bringing people refills of water, running food), waitress took forever to come back and take our food order, water hose/dispenser that glasses are filled from is next to cleanser spray bottles & garbage and would fall off holder and hit the garbage & then dangle close to the floor (gross). My husband really enjoyed his chicken burrito and I tried a bite and it was really flavorful. My Puerco en Adobo was yummy, but rich; they need to serve it with rice and/or tortilla chips. Chips are expensive. $9 an order and we ate the initial basket before our entrees were even ordered and ordered a second basket so I'd have something to go with my entree (at the waitress's suggestion), so $18 just for chips!!!!! Why am I giving a 4 when I have so many "cons"? Because this place is new and they are still working out the kinks, maybe servers called in sick, etc., but the food, location and hostess made it worth it.

Yelp
An upscale taco restaurant. The noise level is pretty loud. I came on a Friday night with reservations. It was pretty busy. The drinks took a while to get to us. They were very strong. Server was very welcoming. I ordered the chicken tinga street tacos. They were very spicy. The carnitas tacos are very greasy but they were delicious.

Yelp
Everything was exceptionally fresh and delicious. The server was quite well-informed about the menu options. All in all, I would certainly want to come back to sample more dishes from the menu.

Yelp
We walked to try this new restaurant after eating lunch at the hotel. Just for margaritas and chips and dips. Well, my friend have been craving oysters, and had to order that. Dips were guacamole and queso which tasted so fresh and delicious. And esquite- Mexican street corn was also delicious. Now my friends are wanting to go back and try the entree on their menu. I told my friends to pose at the grass wall but people were dining in front. We sat at the bar and had our own server. She gave us recommendations and the horchata painkiller was yummy. We will plan another day to go eat there soon.

Yelp
In my opinion, this is definitely more of a "I don't wanna cook, let's just go somewhere" place and less of a "let's make a resy & have a fun dinner" place. The food was good but nothing special or so delicious that it blew me away. You can never go wrong with tacos though. The service was also good, no complaints.

Yelp
I went for lunch on a Tuesday! I was happy to see there were a few tables full at this new place. They have a huge dining room and a great bar. The whole place was photo worthy haha, and a great vibe! I had the esquites/street corn appetizer (100/10) and the carntias tacos American style. Everything was so flavorful, fresh, and filling. Service was super friendly and insanely quick. I definitely want to come back and try their cocktails. Prices were standard for a downtown restaurant and could always be better, but I felt like I got the band for my buck. Overall a great experience, will be back.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place since they open so I was in the area with my sister and thought we would stop by. We didn't have reservations. I didn't really care for the ambience, but the staff was friendly and our waitress was attentive and friendly. the prices were more expensive than I thought they would be so we didn't order drinks. we just ordered Some queso and chips and three salsas and it ended up being $19 which I thought was expensive, but it did taste very good. We parked at a meter on the side street.

Yelp
Went here with some coworkers for dinner after a training. The decor is cool snd was very colorful. The drink (I ordered an alcoholic horchata drink) was FABULOUS and very different than what I've had before. The service was slow and the hostess who was helping deliver plates looked angry. The food was ok. I'd def go back for the chips and drinks!

Yelp
What a hidden gem! Beautiful space tucked away on Park Ave. We were early to our reservation and they seated us anyway. Service was difficult - only one server for the entire afternoon rush and the hostess was helping to bus tables, fill waters, and seat people. We had to wait longer than I expected to not only get a drink but to order. It was WORTH it. Taquitios were amazing with this cream/verde sauce. We had the birria and flautas - portions are legit and the flavors were amazing. Seriously, this place is on point for Mexican flare. Don't hesitate to stop in!

Yelp
Glad to have this new restaurant in our neighborhood. Love the build out and TVs in the bar area. Drinks and food are good, and the service is pretty good. Lots of good options for Mexican food, definitely want to go back for brunch and another shot at dinner rather than sitting at the bar. Metered street parking or you can just walk there if you live near Mill District. I definitely recommend and will be back, hopefully soon!

Yelp
The server here was helpful and friendly. He recommended to us that the appetizers were so big we could just share them. In addition, the service was fast. I loved my fish taco. It was perfectly meaty and tasted even better with the sauce. The chicken wings were perfectly crispy and just spicy enough without being too spice. We came at 8pm and were seated immediately. We really enjoyed our experience.

Yelp
My best friend and I went to dinner here before seeing Kevin Hart's comedy show. We wanted something quick and easy. The best thing to me were the chips and guacamole, and the rice. The rest were bland, unfortunately. The aesthetics were cute, food came out fast, and friendly service. There is off-street parking and we didn't wait long for a table. I might consider going back if someone wanted to check it out.

Yelp
I went to La Madre on the second day they were opened and rightfully so, there were some kinks they had to figure out. One thing they didn't need to figure out was the food. Which was amazing. I had the fish tacos and chips/ salsa & a cocktail. I wish the salsa came in bigger servings. Planning to go back for brunch to see how things have evolved.

Mary M.

Yelp
We were very underwhelmed by the service and food. We were seated promptly but waited for so long to be acknowledged that I was about to go look for help. After a longer wait we got small glasses of tepid water. The food came quickly- but my chicken wings were undercooked. The server didn't seem to care when I showed him how red they were at the bone. The burrito my spouse had was 'meh'. For that the bill was $40 -so in hind-site we were overcharged or tip was included.

Yelp
Was excited to try this new place in the neighborhood! The food was really good. My cocktail was delicious as well. They lean towards tequila/mezcal or rum based drinks. The menu is pretty simple so you won't be overwhelmed with too much to choose from. The only negative thing I would I say is I do think it is a bit pricey. But I definitely recommend trying it for yourself!

Yelp
The ambiance is wonderful and welcoming. I highly recommend getting the chorizo queso, definitely one of my favorites! Tried the Puerco en Adobo this time and it was delicious! Our waitress recommended eating it with some of the chips and she was right, might be my new favorite thing on the menu. Service was a little slow but they were quite busy and a little understaffed. Still had a great experience and would recommend!

Holly T.

Yelp
The ambiance is cool enough. The food wasn't very good. The ceviche was decent, but the wings had no seasoning and were so greasy. We told the waiter they were bad and he shrugged and left them on the table despite that we were clearly not eating them. He didn't offer an apology or replacement or anything. Just a shrug. The burrito was also greasy outside. It was fried, I guess. Weird. Either way, we won't be back.

Yelp
Always happy to see a new spot emerge. As we all know... restaurant life can be short lived. Went in on an early weekday afternoon. Pretty empty, but to be expected at 230. Happy hour starts at 2 btw... which is kinda nice. So I started with a margarita.. margarita was good. Wasn't exactly mind blowing, but it was pretty tasty. Started with the the loaded French fries... can't remember the name of them... but wow! We absokutely devoured and them. Total 10. Then I had the half dozen oysters . I'll be honest, they was a bit skeptical of ordering them, but they were fantastic and fresh tasting. Not sure what type of oyster, as it was never offered. My meal was 2 Carnita tacos and my dinning companion got a Mexican rice bowl. The tacos were not bad. But nothing spectacular. It was happy hour tacos, but here nor there... shouldn't t matter. I sometimes judge a place by their taco preparation. My friend liked his taco bowl. I was pleased... I'll probably give it another try. Maybe dinner, and dig deeper. But I hope they can hammer out the dents and thrive. We need a good "Mexican" place in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Great New Mexican spot, finally! Tortillas are tasty and we loved the chips, would go back just for the chips honestly! This is a side for an extra charge but it's worth it and a good portion. Tacos come in sets of 3, unfortunately you cannot mix and match. We do wish that the Al pastor had chunks of pineapple, it did have a bit of a sweet flavor though. The Camarones embarazados was a great portion of shrimp with sides. The shrimp you do have to peel though and head on so be aware. The street corn esquite was really tasty as well. Parking is street metered parking. Lots of seating options. There is a kids menu as well which had a blood sized quesadilla and fries- wish there was an adult quesadilla!
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Food was fine, but I wouldn't call it authentic by any means. I also didn't think the quality was good enough to justify the prices. The cocktail I had was good, but for an Old Fashioned inspired drink it was quite sweet, which is a bit strange to me. Service and ambiance was good, but I don't see myself going back anytime soon since there is better Mexican cuisine elsewhere for cheaper.

Yelp
Stopped here for dinner pre-concert at loved it! Drinks were good (a little pricey) but good pours! We got the chips and salsa (salsa verde is a must!) and the guacamole. I got the steak quesadilla and my husband got the queso birria. Both our meals were good, but both dishes could've used a little more meat. Lots of cheese, which is good, but the ratio wasn't exactly right. Overall, good spot! And relatively affordable!

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner here this Saturday. I recommend the Al Pastor tacos, esquites if you want to hit solid classics. While I wasn't super impressed with the rest of our choices the rest of the nice, I thought the ambiance was lovely, and the food/ drinks that didn't make the mark had great potential/ concepts. Drinks La Madre Paloma (grapefruit, lime, refreshing, kick of spice) (8/10) Horchata Painkiller (horchata pina colada) (4/10) Loved the concept of the Horchata Painkiller. However, the lightness of the horchata made the "pina colada" flavor feel water down. The mix pineapple unfortunately tasted bitter, tart vs refreshing, tart. Could also be a bit more creamy. Can't complain about the Paloma. I love a tart, sour drink. It was definitely the better choice for me. First Course Ceviche (6/10) While tasty, my first bite had a big piece of fish fat. If you are sensitive to fishy flavors, I would skip this one. Besides the bites of fish fat, the dish was lovely. The pickled onions made it crisp, light, and refreshing. The blue corn tortilla was a nice touch. Mussels (6/10) Lovely, smokey al pastor broth. Love the concept, there were also bits of pork in the mussel broth as well. Squeeze of lime on the top really helps tie it together. Not a personal favorite, I felt like it was missing just a bit of something. But still a good choice. Esquites (10/10) Exactly what it is supposed to be. Second Course Al Pastor Tacos (10/10) I gotta say. This was delicious. The pork was not too fatty, and had a bit of a crisp to them. Salsa verde on the tacos was smoky and delicious. Served in a set of 3. We asked if we could mix up the flavors and the server informed us it's a topic for conversation at the restaurant. But since they are newly open, they'd like to have the kitchen be able to work with the flow first. Loved this answer. I think it's a great approach. Rather than overpromising the options, they are adjusting by prioritizing what is important in the first phase of the opening. Once they get the workflow established, I'd love to see a combo option for tacos.

Colt M.

Yelp
Great service by coly and great food the taste and service is amazing and amazing location if you going to US BANK STADIUM

Robin C.

Yelp
Since the opening they have really stepped it up... menu changes.. margaritas... so good!! My new favorite neighborhood place.

Bruce B.

Yelp
LaMadre is a must-visit! Their tortilla chips and salsa are some of the best I've ever had--perfectly crisp with fresh, flavorful salsa. The Pollo en Adobo tacos were absolutely delicious, and the Carnitas tacos were equally outstanding, with tender, juicy pork and perfect seasoning. Sierra, our waitress, was wonderful, and Micki, the bartender, made the experience even better. Great atmosphere, fantastic service, and amazing food. I'll definitely be back!

Paola P.

Yelp
Tacos are fire. Service is nice and overall the experience is nice like home. Love they brought a little bit of la tapatía food to the La madre.

Karen S.

Yelp
La Madre has great flavors and a fun vibe but the menu and plating need a ton of work. It's impossible to tell if the restaurant is meant to be tapas-style or not, but a lot of the food is served in quantities that don't make any sense (too little or too much) or without the elements that actually make the food authentic and a complete meal. For example, my dining partner ordered the pork adobo which literally came as a pile of pork on corn. This should have had tortillas or beans or something to balance it out. I had the birria -- which tasted great but was too heavy and, again, lacked enough lime or radish to balance out the plate. By far, the best thing we had though was the ceviche -- light, flavorful and the only balanced dish we had. We were so glad we didn't take the server's advice though. She recommended getting it with chips instead of the traditional tostadas to "make it easier to eat." Salty chips don't pair well with ceviche. The restaurant should put the tostadas on the side (as is traditional) and help customers who are perhaps unfamiliar with the items on the menu navigate a new experience rather than trying to Americanize the food to make it "easier." Give the diner some credit AND trust that the real flavors and food culture of Mexico are amazing enough to keep. This restaurant has the potential to be one of the best in the city -- it just needs a few tweaks to get there.

Cheyenna G.

Yelp
Came here for its opening night, and it was a treat. The restaurant's decor is fun and colorful. Those dining in can see the kitchen as BOH works on their creations. The tacos are either street style or California style--street style all the way though. I got the Horchata cocktail which came in a little clay cup (super cute), the adobo chicken tacos (so good with a squeeze of lime), and the totopos with guacamole and choriqueso which honestly were sooo good (I have not had choriqueso in the States that good in a while). The only thing I wish is that the totopos were unlimited because I wanted to scoop every morsel of the dips (but as our server explained, the restaurant buys the tortillas and makes them into chip style there so it makes sense that you have to buy each portion of chips (which in all fairness did have health portion of chips). Service was good, especially given the craziness of the first day.
