I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at La Maison Ani was disappointing from start to finish.
To begin with, the food was mediocre at best. Everything we ordered lacked flavour and seasoning, nothing stood out or felt thoughtfully prepared. The lentil salad, which the waiter highly recommended, was bland and something I could have easily made at home but better. The burrata, harissa prawns, and grilled aubergine followed the same pattern: under-seasoned and completely lacking in taste.
For mains, we ordered the Wagyu meatball arrabbiata, and it was another letdown. It tasted nothing like quality wagyu, and honestly, any local Italian spot could make a more satisfying arrabbiata sauce for a fraction of the price.
What made the experience genuinely unpleasant, though, were the service and safety issues. I have a severe sesame allergy and had communicated this clearly multiple times. Despite that, the bread arrived covered in sesame seeds, an alarming oversight for any restaurant, let alone one positioned at a higher standard. It showed a concerning lack of attention and care. To make things worse, the waiter accidentally dropped food on my white jacket, leaving a visible stain.
Overall, it was a disappointing and stressful evening. Between the lacklustre food and the service issues, I won’t be returning or recommending La Maison Ani to anyone. The worst £400 I ever spent.
