La Maison d'Aix | Best places to stay in Provence

"This exquisite little boutique hotel in the centre of Aix-en-Provence occupies a typical 18th-century townhouse, where the owner – architect Laura Juhen – has spared no expense in creating four of the loveliest rooms in Provence. Originally built in 1785, the house was once the home of Henriette Reboul, friend of Cezanne and Chanel, and today has a charming, hospitable atmosphere, thanks to the wonderful breakfast in the winter garden. Perfect for a first-time visit or honeymoon, this place is as intimate and welcoming as staying in the home of a very chic friend, who just happens to have a mini-spa and pool in the basement. Located in the Mazarin Renaissance quarter of Aix, a residential neighbourhood of similar townhouses on narrow streets that feels wonderfully peaceful, while still putting you close to the sights. A wonderful boutique hotel in a perfect location in Aix-en-Provence. We were greeted by the manager Emma who charmingly told us the history of the house and insisted that we should feel like we lived here. The public spaces are beautiful and our room was comfortable and lovely. Emma made us an excellent breakfast the next morning and we enjoyed the cookies and local candies always available. Everyone was friendly and extremely helpful. I would return just to stay here again!

Truly one of the best hotel experiences we have enjoyed. From the greeting by staff upon arrival to checkout evrything about this hotel is first class. The location is tremendous, an easy five minute walk to the old town. The room itself was spacious, very clean and super comfortable bed. The steam room and cool plunge are in a unique setting and was a special treat. Don't hesitate, book it now.

A rare and timeless place. From the moment you arrive, the welcome is warm, attentive, and perfectly balanced — thoughtful without ever being overbearing. You instantly feel at ease, as if at home… yet surrounded by the quiet elegance of true luxury. Every detail is meticulously considered — from the textures and lighting to the scents and the team’s thoughtful gestures. The location is ideal, right in the heart of Aix’s historic center, yet the Maison d’aix remains a peaceful haven. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for such a unique experience. I will return without hesitation.

More than a hotel, a true home of beauty and kindness A True Gem in the Heart of Aix – A Home Away From Home We made a last-minute reservation at La Maison d’Aix, arriving late at night, and were welcomed with warmth, care, and a delightful bottle of sparkling wine with delicious treats. From the very first moment, it felt like coming home. We stayed in the Master Suite, and words can hardly do it justice. Overlooking both the charming backyard and the quiet front street, the room was beautifully appointed and incredibly comfortable. The house, with just four rooms, exudes intimacy and charm—every space tells a story, elegantly decorated with impeccable taste. Breakfast was an experience in itself—prepared with love by Emma and her team. Fresh, crusty bread, creamy butter, local jam, perfectly cooked eggs... Simple, yet elevated to something truly memorable. It was honestly one of the best breakfasts we had during our two weeks in the South of France. The amenities were equally outstanding—the serene living room, the relaxing heated pool, and the hamman created a true haven. The care and passion Emma and her husband put into this place is felt in every corner. Their local recommendations made all the difference in our experience in Aix—genuine, thoughtful, and perfectly curated. We are incredibly grateful. La Maison d’Aix became the highlight of our entire trip. This place isn’t just a hotel—it’s an experience, and one we’ll return to again and again. Indulge yourself at 1785. You’ll never forget it.

I just stayed at La Maison d’Aix and felt compelled to leave a review as soon as I left. This place is truly exceptional — not only for its perfect location in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, but above all for its historical charm and discreet, intimate atmosphere. It’s a rare gem where you feel completely at home. Emma welcomed us with genuine warmth and care, making the entire experience feel effortlessly special. The interiors are beautifully curated with refined taste, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. You jave to try the fruit salad ! I highly recommend La Maison d’Aix to anyone looking for an authentic, elegant and peaceful stay in Aix.

Yelp
This was an amazing find! Aix was the fourth city on our lovely vacation through France, in which we stayed in varied accommodations, including chain and boutique hotels and AirBNBs. La Maison d'Aix was our favorite 'home away from home', by far!!! From the moment we checked in, Charlene, our concierge made us feel as if we were staying at a friend's home. The decor of this boutique hotel was unique and fun, fresh and chic, while cozy and inviting all at the same time! The hospitality that Charlene and her fellow colleagues showed us during our stay was unsurpassed, from the quaint breakfast offered each morning, to the Haribo candies left at turndown each night. The history behind this property adds to its charm! The three rooms and suite are spacious and offer all of the amenities you would expect from a 5-star resort, and more; especially the suite with its lovely soaking tub and terrace overlooking the garden below. The location of the property is perfect! Literally on the edge of the old city, but still easy access to the major highways. We arrived on a Saturday and there was an amazing market (farmer and goods) on the main street of the old city. If you find yourself in Aix, you would be remiss not to stay in this lovely house! Ritz Carlton has nothing on La Maison d'Aix and it's amazing hosts!
