Where to Feast on Savory Chinese Buns in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Noodles galore and a roujiamo with pork — called simply “pork sandwich” — are featured on the menu of this Concordia-adjacent restaurant, alongside “lamb with pita,” a larger-sized flatbread stuffed with lamb and then fried." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

Google
Excellent Montreal meat market with a great selection of local farm fresh produce. Great service and with a wide selection of meats. You can also get a home cooked meal to go, or pre marinated meat with makes for a quick and easy meal. I highly recommend this well known Montreal institution.

Google
So many AI images on their website, can’t say I trust the food. A previous review mentioned the same problem. There was a reply from the butcher claiming it was due to time and cost restrains. There’s a camera in every pocket. Absolute travesty of an excuse. Take a real photo of the real food, nothing could be easier Utter embarrassment

Google
Spectacularly loaded with all the cuts of meat and varieties of cheese you could want. The selection is almost overwhelming but the staff is friendly and helpful. There are various cuts of meat ready and packaged or you can ask for something specific from one of the butchers. I am a fan of unusual and game meats so I was intrigued by the elk and horse options. Had a good time here and would recommend it to any fellow carnivore!

The delivery drive for this company in truck 21-22 is rude and a very dangerous driver. He has road rage and does not deserve to drive. I have witnessed many times his horrible actions while driving. Next time I will post video.

Google
Great place to buy all sort of meat products. Their steaks and foie gras are great. Their turkey and xmas dishes all also good. I would have rate it 5 stars if the prices would have been cheaper.

Google
Amazing selections, cheeses from all over in case you don’t feel like driving. Out of town. Reasonable prices and great service !!

Google
Shame on you La Maison du Rôti. Not only do they cheat and put pork and horse meat and goes to say it's all beef they are also scabs. To all the 1700 strikers , if you go there stop now. And let your friends and family know to stop encouraging Scabs and cheaters. From word of mouth is a powerful tool.

Merci Maison du Roti. I don't speak much French, but >>>Tony <<< (@tonythewok) made me feel incredibly welcome and taken care of. Amazing customer service. I ate here everyday during my trip to Montreal - great food and great prices. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great charcuterie selection. Only dissappointment was the merguez: not spicy enough.... Will return on next Montreal visit.

Yelp
The House of Roast. Thought it was the house of pasta...but that was another business right down the road. Pretty much high end, speciality, gourmet, grocery store. Love everything about it. Was looking for highly seasoned, peppered or blackened turkey deli meat...but apparently, that is not a common food item in Montreal. Does anybody KNOW where???? I can find this?? Okay, back to the review... they have all types of meat, duck, pigeon, horse & cow meat. Yes... horse meat. HUGE massive selection of cheeses. Lots of unique spices. Looks like heaven to the Gourmand.

Yelp
There was a story on CBC about this place mixing horse and pork meat with the burger patties they sell.... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Horse meat, pork found in beef patties at Maison du Rôti Former employee at Plateau-Mont-Royal butcher shop says he was told to mix meat CBC News Posted: Jun 25, 2016 8:15 AM ET Last Updated: Jun 25, 2016 8:15 AM ET A butcher shop in Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal borough has been adding horsemeat to hamburger patties advertised as being entirely made of beef. An investigation by Radio-Canada has found burger patties advertised as being 100 per cent beef from La Maison du Rôti on Mont-Royal Avenue were mixed with both horsemeat and pork. One former employee, who asked to remain anonymous, told Radio-Canada that it was common practice. "I often helped chop up meat to make burgers and to also make sausages," the employee said. "They asked me each time to add horse and sometimes pork." 'I will find a solution' DNA testing carried out at Trent University found that the beef patties, marketed as entirely made of beef by Maison du Rôti, contained between 37 and 46 per cent horse meat. Radio-Canada tested beef patties bought on May 9 and May 16, 2016. Beef accounted for about 38 to 53 per cent of the patty, and pork made up anywhere between seven and 18 per cent. The investigation also found that merguez sausages from the butcher, advertised as being made with beef and lamb, also had horsemeat and pork mixed in. Owner Michel Legrand said he wasn't aware that employees were adding horse meat and pork to the company's beef patties. He added that employees didn't want to mislead their customers. "I will find a solution," Legrand told Radio-Canada. "I will make sure to fix this mistake immediately." This kind of meat combination and false advertising is more common than people think, according to Sarah Berger-Richardson, who studies food law and policy at McGill University. "A lot of people are buying food, meat and fish that they think is one thing and it's not," Berger-Richardson said. In Montreal, businesses that mislead customers regarding the composition of food are subject to fines ranging from $500 to $9,000. The Maison du Rôti employs close to 95 people and supplies meat to over 400 hotels, institutions and restaurants, according to its website. It says it has changed its ways since being confronted with the results of the Radio-Canada investigation. Based on a report by Radio-Canada's David Simantov-Levi and Davide Gentile http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/maison-du-roti-radio-canada-beef-patties-1.3652477

Yelp
Excellent butcher. The selection is vast, fresh, and the staff is ready to answer any questions. The shop also has readymade food to take out, like salads, quiches, sandwiches, as well as bulk coffee. We got to sample a few different coffees before choosing one to go with, and like other small shops, if you bring your bag back, you get a discount next time. It seems like everyone on the east Plateau carries a Maison du Roti tote bag - either they're all hardcore fans, or there was a big bag-giveaway at some point (missed it! bummer!), but it speaks to their success and popularity. I totally wish I had the income to shop here regularly, because my stomach would certainly thank me for it.

Yelp
Went for the first time on Sunday Jan. 29th, 2012. Had a Groupon voucher. - The service is impeccable. - Very friendly and they don't let anyone stand there un-served. - No line up, we went pretty early. - Good steaks. - Great hours - Open 9am to 9pm everyday. - The cold meats are *very* expensive, but good. - I tried the tomato-coriander marinated chicken breast & there was grizzle or fat pieces in the meat. I *really* didn't like that. In the one sitting I chewed on something 3 separate times so I got fed up and threw the rest out. - I'd say it's located too far from the Mont-Royal metro. Hubby & I will go back, but I'm not sure if I will buy chicken breast again. :-(

Yelp
They are scammers and fraudsters. They lie on their food labels about the ingredients. And they got caught fire it several times. Google it. 100% beef is actually mostly horse and pork. Bison is actually old beef. Merguez sausages can contain as much as 15% pork!!!!! This kind of fraud is criminal! And they charge a premium for it!

Yelp
Excellent, friendly, quality neighbourhood butcher. *Very* reasonable prices, excellent choice and so many great products to drool over. I've had a really positive experience every time I've gone in for something. The young guys behind the butcher counter are super professional and attentive, as well as pleasant. I even went in for an unusual request: hog gut (your typical sausage casings for people who make their own sausages) - but for use as art material. When I told the guy what it was for, he didn't bat an eye and gave me exactly what I was looking for and told me to have fun with my art project. Just cool peeps with a wonderful shop.

Yelp
I have been a loyal customer for many years and am always satisfied with the quality, variety, and the impeccable service they provide. So much so that it has become our Bistro's provider of all things meat. If you like to cook and need something special, head over there and let yourself be guided by their top notch butchers.

Yelp
What a great experience. We were in Montreal for 4 days. So we wanted to cook instead of dining out every night. We are adventurous eaters so we were pleased to see meats like Bison, Elk and even Horse available. We got all three. I've never had horse, it was a bit like steak but really excellent. The elk was my favorite. Every one was very knowledgable and articulate in English.

Yelp
This is an amazing upscale butcher. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable butcher staff. They also make meat pies and quiches, ready made meals, sandwiches for take-out. Baguettes, cheeses, coffees.

Yelp
Excellent, excellent selection of meats, cheeses, coffee, specialty cooking products at very, very good prices! Highly recommended. Famous for quiches and tarts. Lots of Quebec cheeses. Knowledgeable staff too.

Yelp
Just had to post again about how great the terrines are from here. We stop here before heading out for any daily excursion to pick up snack food. They have a wide variety and they are all delicious. There's also a good cheese selection and a variety of other specialty food items. They have a ton of meat for cooking, but we just come for the snacks. We picked up about ten different ones to take home when we left Montreal. (We had a car and a cooler!) They freeze well and remind us of vacation months later.
