The lavender pastry was so good, definitely one of my favorites. It’s sweet, but not overload that’s going to make you stop eating. The macaroons were great too, coffee flavor was absolute the best with the blueberry, and earl grey. The to go boxes also have a great presentation, the place inside is small but comfy, they have a wine bar too with tables, and outside seating. The coffee didn’t have a great taste, but I guess I didn’t specify if they have milk options.

Google
We ate here for restaurant week. The desserts were delicious but unfortunately the actual food was unremarkable. I would stick to pastries and desserts here and stay away from the entrees. We tried eating here a second time and tried the crepes. They were delicious and I highly recommend them.

Google
Lovely place in Portsmouth market square. Delectable lemon tart. These tarts can be well tarty but this one was just right. These tarts tiramisu gelato was an eye opener. Sometimes an eatable is named like a suggestion- not this one. Just what the name suggests.

Loved this place! Best pastries in town. Nice place to have a coffee and eat a snack or grab a couple of gourmet items to take home.

Google
Excellent excellent excellent. The oatmilk cappuccino has a great toasty flavor, and has been reliably good on multiple visits. The pastries are terrific -- I've gotten the almond croissant and the chocolate twist, both of which were heavenly. Awesome crispy and flaky crust, with a nice chewiness on the inside. Staff is friendly (and from what I can tell, very authentically French). The cafe part has plenty of seating and feels very open and inviting. We've made it a point to visit each time we come to Portsmouth!

Google
Do you make desserts just to look good? Do you plan to make them tasty??? Jesus, $50 for 6 macarons and 3 desserts. Macarons are crunchy and dry, so little of filling - 5/10. I thought just the macarons aren’t your “thing” in the store. But the desserts….. are sour and taste of everything just aren’t good…. SO DISAPPOINTED!!! Don’t take pineapple tart, it’s the worst one. If you’re looking just to make pictures of “beautiful dessert” you can buy, but if you’re looking to eat something tasty, I would avoid this place.

Came for coffee and a treat with my sisters after a nice lunch. Coffee was excellent and worth sitting to enjoy in a real cup. The strawberry crepe was good with a nice custard. The coconut item my sister got was excellent. I love this little place.

Google
My husband could eat the Pain au chocolate allll day. Love that a few of their macarons are dairy free (fruit flavors). Got the hot chocolate with almond milk. Unfortunately not a quality chocolate as it was reminiscent of Swiss miss

Joy L.

Yelp
I ordered a GF savory crepe with green pesto. The crepe wasn't greasy at lot, very right, not too heavy. It was perfect balance of veggies and cheese. I will definitely go back and order other crepes.

Yelp
Yummy!!!! This is my second time here and it did not disappoint! The ambiance is very french and so lovely. The desserts look amazing but i resisted!! I ordered the make your own croissant.Had bacon, arugula, and tomato on the croissant with a scrambled egg on the side and a side salad as well. The croissant was flaky and delicious. The side salad dressing was tasty and the egg was perfectly scrambled. hubby got the niçoise salad with tuna and our daughter got the french onion soup. It was the best soup i'd ever had!! Love this place tons!

Yelp
La Maison Navarre is a great bakery If you want to visit Paris and you are in Portsmouth this is the place. You can feel the energy as soon as you open the door. You can sit outside and bring your dog however it's not really ideal sitting outside because it's very busy on Congress Street. Go early because if you're looking for Kouign-Amann they sell out by the afternoon. They have a large selection of authentic colorful macaroons which they are known for. Inside there is bistro eating upstairs or sit for counter service downstairs. They have a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The owner Victor is very nice and is helpful in guiding you in his menu. Everything on the menu is delicieux! Bon appetit!

Yelp
I don't like to write negative reviews but feel compelled to for this place. We were on the hunt for an eclair and wound up here - a single eclair was over $8 with tax, which is more than I've ever spent on one (I think this is about the same price as Laduree). If it tasted good this would be okay (if not still a little cringeworthy) but everything about this was wrong. It tasted like it was frozen and bought in bulk, not made in house. The pastry cream was tight, almost like ice cream, and flavorless. The choux was too thin and rubbery. We threw it away after one bite each. We didn't try these, but I also noticed that the macarons were unevenly sized and flat looking. The croissants looked burnt. Perhaps they were tasty, but visually these should have been a warning that something was off.

Yelp
My husband liked the chocolate hazelnut tarte, and I tried the Paris Brest (hazelnut cream) & relegeuse (vanilla and chocolate filling). They weren't too sweet like most American desserts. These are big and very shareable! Note the Choux pastry was softer later in the day. We also tried the chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla and coffee macarons which had perfect texture and great flavor. Vanilla and coffee were surprisingly our favorites. They serve George Howell coffee and have a cute market too.
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
Some more macaron thoughts as I try more flavors: pistachio and hazelnut were pretty with the nut pieces on the shells, but the flavor was very light/hard to detect. They simply felt decadent due to the filling but not flavorful. The raspberry on the other hand was filled with a yummy jam. I enjoy being able to taste the flavors, so the raspberry was the only winner here of the three for me.

Yelp
Get the Kouign Amann! It was a surprising version of that pastry I had never had before. Delicious and flaky outside filled with some kind of cream in the middle? I've never had a filled Kourign Amann before and this was really delicious! The almond croissant was ok. The croissant part is very flaky and buttery. But the filling wasn't the best I've ever had. And all of the macarons we got were a bit disappointing. My friend got the lavender one and she really liked it because it was very lavender-forward. The rest were just average.

Yelp
I can't believe this place has been in Portsmouth all this time and I've missed it! They have all of the delicious things: crepes (savory AND sweet), waffles, croissant breakfast sandwiches, intricate salads, macarons. I opted for the savory buckwheat crepe, which was so so good, but now I really need to come back to try the rest! The inside is also super cute, and the staff very kind (we forgot our daughter's snack, and they let us purchase an off the menu banana as a quick rescue). Also, most importantly, the coffee is very good.

Yelp
Pound for pound my favorite place in Portsmouth. It's just a perfect little French gem.
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
I stopped here on a whim - ordered two macarons, a French onion soup, and a kombucha. The two macarons we got were chestnut and pear and salted caramel. Both were good but the salted caramel filling was amazing. It was a real caramel which meant that it was pretty firm inside (cracked the macaron trying to share!). The kombucha was also on draft (strawberry sage when I went). The French onion soup blew me away! The broth was fantastic and came with toasted seasoned baguette on the side. They also had savory and sweet crepe options with both white and buckwheat crepes. We came towards the end of table service but wish we were given napkins/utensils for the soup since there didn't appear to be any napkin dispensers.

Yelp
Cute small and delicious! What more could you ask for? The coffee, croissants and also their crepes are a hit with the kids.

Yelp
You cannot find a better breakfast spot in Portsmouth! The owners (Victor and Charlotte) are hands on and have done an incredible job of recruiting a passionate team who love what they do! The downstairs restaurant is counter service with both indoor and outdoor seating & there's an upstairs wine bar and sit down restaurant open on weekends and evenings. Highly recommend a reservation upstairs and make a point to attend one of their wine events, but they do sell out fast!

Vicki S.

Yelp
The food and coffee are exceptional! The food is authentic and delicious. It's great to sit at the counter to watch them creating crepes and other treats.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite spots to eat during college!! The prices are reasonable, the macarons are absolutely delicious, and the always gluten-free option of a crepe is such a welcome aspect of any cafe food! The owner is very sweet and super accommodating! My favorite flavors of macarons are the Earl Grey, Lavender, and the Vanilla! The flavors are so subtle and complex, my mouth is watering just thinking about them! Definitely a can't miss when visiting Portsmouth!

Yelp
This is a review of a place that is usually amazing and 5 stars. Today June 27th I came in for breakfast as I always do when I come to Portsmouth. Spent $75 dollars on macarons and a burned mess of a breakfast. When I asked the girl who brought them over I said is this over medium and her answer was I honestly don't know and walked away. Service really is a killer. This is a one star review based on the mess they served me zero out of zero and the rude service zero out of zero. Shame this place is one of the spots I look forward to coming to visit.

Yelp
Food: Amazing assortment of brunch food and lunch food. There are countless pastries as well. I tried some pistachio macarons and they were perfectly made. I also tried the hazelnut chocolate tart. It was creamy and super decadent. I had an egg sandwich that had amazing cheese and ham on brioche. It came with a salad. I think the food was high quality and at a good price. Atmosphere: You order at the front and you can sit on the ground floor or upstairs. It was pretty crowded because it was the weekend but it wasn't that hard to find somewhere to sit. Service: The food came out pretty quickly but the servers were not super friendly but everyone is allowed to have an off day. The food was so good this didn't matter much to me also it didn't matter much since you don't have an actual server here. Overall I would definitely return and try more meals.

Yelp
Excellent. I got steak with potatoes au gratin and salad and hubby got chicken almandine with fingerling potatoes and wonderful green beans. We loved it and highly recommend it. Right next door to the Music Hall Lounge in Portsmouth, it was an easy choice. Gretchen, the chef came by our table and we chatted. So great to talk with her! She was nice enough to explain how she made the green beans (shallots, white wine, garlic) and we talked about many different things regarding the food. I made the green beans for a large crowd the following week. Although the prices are higher, we felt it was worth it. The atmosphere is casual - it's a wine bar. It was such a treat to eat such perfect food and then to chat about it. We didn't have time for desserts, they were closed by the time the show was over AND we will definitely be back there. Worth going to Portsmouth just for the food! By the time I thought of taking pics of the food, it was gone.

Yelp
Tasty coffee, delicious crepes, delicate macarons, friendly service, and a great atmosphere. What's not to like? La Maison is hands down one of my favorite places to go when I need to catch up on work, or just need a change of scenery from the office. They have a spacious bar area with outlets that you can use to keep your laptops charged. You can also use their complimentary wi-fi with a FB check-in. (or just ask for the wifi password.) My favorite things to snack on are, of course, the macarons, there are so many delicious flavors! I personally love the pistachio, coffee, vanilla, and rose flavor. Their crepes are so fluffy and delicate. I recommend the Honey Butter crepe. Sadly I moved to a new city but whenever I visit Portsmouth I'd always visit this quaint little coffee shop!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute wine bar and pastry shop. Would love to come back for the wine. We stopped in for the macarons though. They do have a really nice variety of them and we totally recommend trying the toffee one we could definitely tell they weren't fresh. The shells were definitely not crisp on the outside like how they are supposed to be ya know ? Service was great and the actual restaurant is really cute. They have a bunch of treats and snacks that you can purchase that I haven't seen in the USA only in France so I thought that was pretty cool.

Angela F.

Yelp
Best pastry shop and crepe shop in Portsmouth. We walked into a lot of them and this one has the most variety/ options. Friendly staff and a cute spot. Offers quite a bit of seating and there is a wine bar up the stairs. Wish I tried the macaroons but I was full from everything else lol the display case of all the pastries makes you want everything! Get there early because the pastries tend to go quickly!
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Are you looking for a spot to pick up some goodies and a coffee on the go? Are you looking for a spot to chill and relax over some nice pastries? This was a Yelp find that I have to say I would highly recommend if you are answered yes to any of those two questions above! I was looking for macarons to try and my hubby wanted a cup of coffee. So I ordered everything to go and we were both such a happy camper. He really liked his Spanish latte and I loved their macarons. They have so many great flavors to choose from. I wanted to try all of them. Prices were pretty reasonable and if I lived locally, I would definitely be a frequent customer. 2 thumbs up from this Yelper! I highly recommend it! Tips: *Indoor seating *Credit card accepted *They serve food as well. *They sell treats as well. *Street parking

Yelp
On recent trip to the area for business I jus happened to be walking by this spot. What intrigued me was "a French spot in Portsmouth." So I stopped by for brunch. Oh I'm glad I did. I sat upstairs since the menu is a bit different and even had a chance to briefly chat with the chef. Everything from the food to the service to the coffee was I also learned the backstory (idea to creation) of the crème brûlée waffle. That was my favorite!!!! But I also like the fact the chef was supported in her creative idea that ended up being amazing!! I intend to return should my travels bring me back to the area.

Yelp
My daughter loves their cappuccinos so of course we had to try the place during our visit. They make delicious lattes. I had it twice and it was perfect both times. All the pastries we tried were amazing. I also tried cinnamon crepe. I can definitely recommend it. Everyone is always friendly and they also do sit down brunch on weekends.
google avatar

Areeba Z.

Yelp
Cute French pastry shop in Portsmouth. They have a wide variety of macaroons and pastries. They also have nitro cold brew and kombucha on tap. You can dine in or get takeout. Their pastries are a must try! They're so elegant and dainty. I got the Opera cake and Paris-Brest. Both were light, fluffy and not too heavy. They also do savoury crepes that seem to be highly rated. I'll definitely be back again for brunch.
google avatar

Ellen G.

Yelp
Hands down! Best crepes... loved it They also have a rest upstairs that serves brunch I believe...very goos as well.

Nicole G.

Yelp
Such a yummy crepe, definitely recommend all of the great options. The pastries are SO YUMMY and the macaroons are so delicious.

Yelp
My wife and I found this place on Yelp as we were searching for something light but different to eat. We were happy with our choice. The crepes were prepared in front of us in a small kitchen area and delivered to our table with courtesy and care by servers who wore clothing reminiscent of classy restaurants. The restaurant had tasteful decorations with a French theme. My wife ordered the La Complete and thoroughly enjoyed the rosemary ham. I had an excellent cappaccino and an almond croissant followed by another cappaccino and a vanilla cream crepe. Don't miss this place if you are in the area.

Yelp
When I was researching places to go prior to our Portsmouth trip, I learned about La Maison Navarre and was super excited to come check it out. This is the first truly authentic French pâtisserie I've ever visited, and it exceeded my expectations. The chocolate banana crepe was light and not overwhelming with chocolate, and the build your own croissant option was great. It was tough to decide which treats to pick out from the case, but I'm so glad I went with the chocolate eclairs, because they're by far the best I've ever had. We picked out a dozen macarons, and these were so soft and had no artificial flavors. I've always wanted to visit Paris, and I feel like I experienced a little piece of it by visiting La Maison Navarre!

Yelp
Had intended to go to Friendly Toast, but there was over an hour wait, so we came to MN instead and we were incredibly pleasantly surprised. The food, the service, the coffee, divine! Better than we could have asked. 10/10 will be returning
google avatar

Aleah F.

Yelp
My first experience at La Madison Navarre was spent sipping a quality glass of wine while reading and enjoying the ambiance. The wine bar is small, chilly, and prompt. I was able to buy a bottle of the wine I purchased a glass of. I would love to return for food one day soon.
google avatar

Olesya M.

Yelp
Lovely place, I came a few times while I was in town. Everything I tried was great. Their crepes had that perfect chewy texture. There was a large selection of macarons - salted caramel was my favorite. Service was quick and pricing is very reasonable.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
Elegant but somewhat limited in wine selection. Limitation is the only issue. However, still very good. . . . quiet as well and a little slow.
google avatar

Shaji K.

Yelp
Monday afternoon, with a giant crowd next door, opted instead to try out this place. Some tables up front but more available in the back (order first then head over to the table). Got the Croque Monsieur ($9ish) and an Iced Coffee ($3). Food comes out shortly with a nice layering of meat, cheese and eggs with well toasted bread. Not greasy at all and goes well with the strong coffee. Side salad was nominal. Service here is quick and the spot isn't too crowded. Good place for breakfast/lunch.
google avatar

Todd M.

Yelp
There are lots of good places to eat breakfast in the area but this is probably the best. Amazing crêpes, pastries, croissant sandwiches and more. I have not been here for lunch or dinner but I keep coming back for breakfast. There are other places with longer lines but this is a gem. Great service, super nice people, and overall great experience.
google avatar

Dina I.

Yelp
If you have not visited La Maison Navarre you are missing a breakfast place that is truly unique and delicious. From perfectly poached eggs with crepes to coconut eclairs that are simply delicious. Amazing food is combined with an amazing experience. Our hostess offered options for the kids that required customization without any prompting and the changes were executed flawlessly. I am so happy to have found this spot. If you are in the area, this is a must!!!

Peter L.

Yelp
Staff is absolutely crazy. Got in middle of conversation I was having with another customer who was rudely saving 3 tables over 45 minutes and haven't even ordered food. One girl screamed out me GET OUT GET OUT and has no idea of the situation. Even the customer I confronted said I'm sorry do you want the table but we already ate and were leaving. Lunatics real lunatics work here.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Wish I could tell you we enjoyed our coffee and pastries, but came at 8:24 and they were closed already. Sign on the door says they close at 9. Boo!!!
google avatar

Alexander B.

Yelp
Amazing place for breakfast / brunch or simply to treat yourself with some desserts. We had a quiche and some crepes and everything was perfect. The crepes are as close to French as they can be. The service was quick and you should also try their macarons. Definitely going here again next time we're in Portsmouth.

Marissa M.

Yelp
The food was good, just overpriced. The service was ok, but I didn't appreciate that the 18% gratuity is brazenly applied to grocery items. There were some good gluten-free dessert options, which I appreciated, and the option of the buckwheat crepe (GF) was a huge boon. The outside tables could use some shade; the indoor seating was cozy.
google avatar

renje g.

Yelp
- good service - good goat cheese salad with good French bread - the bacon and goat cheese crepe is very goat cheesey it comes with salad - tasty butter and syrup crepe - stellar London fog - chai is almost as equally as fantastic - almost packed during a Friday at 2pm - there are some lingerers - I liked the soundtrack - thumbs up all the way for salted caramel macaroon - apple macaroon is very regular

Yelp
Visited this incredibly quaint and delicious French bakery while visiting with our kids in NH and Maine, and EVERYTHING we ordered was top notch! The coffee, the unexplainably beautiful and delicious French pastries. Truly mouthwatering! We tried to pick up some items to-go on a Sunday morning, but unfortunately had no time to wait in the line that went out the door and down the street. Always a good sign, right? And it's located in a very walkable and entertaining neighborhood that was all dolled up for Halloween. Perfect! We'll be back to try the breakfasts (and more pastries!) on our next visit! Mercí, LMN!

Colleen N.

Yelp
4 and a half stars. We had the hazelnut tart, the fruit tart, the opera cake, and the peach cake. Everything was delicious. The fruit tart was especially superb. One of my friends wanted coffee and they didn't have any pots of coffee. One could still get espresso. Given that the place was open for one more hour, my friend felt like she should have be able to have a regular coffee.
google avatar

Jenny Z.

Yelp
Such a gem in Portsmouth with some of the BEST savory crepes. I got the complete crepe and it was sooo warm and soft with a slight char, super delicious. I really recommend it as it was super light yet filling, and super refreshing and made me feel good!! Extremely yummy and delicious :)) My friends got a croissant sandwich w smoked salmon and avocado as well as the almond croissant!!
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Such a cute place to stop in for breakfast, lunch, coffee or a special treat! The mocha latte was delicious and strong - a large is not really large so definitely get the big size! The goat cheese quiche was incredibly flavorful and it came with a yummy side salad. My friend ordered a goat cheese salad with bacon that she enjoyed tremendously. The macarons are fresh and they have so many flavors to choose from. They are not cheap but they were worth it! Took home a tapenade and crackers and can't wait to try. Pleasant staff! Definitely a cool spot to hang for a bit and very COVID safe.

Yelp
Confession: I still think about La Maison Navarre's macarons on a daily basis. That's how much I loved 'em! Also, this review is going to be about their macarons since I didn't try anything else. :- ) We arrived on a weekday around 2 PM and it wasn't packed at all! I ordered a box of 6 macarons ($15) and chose the earl grey, lemon-lavender, rose, coffee, and pistachio flavors. It was neatly packed in a sturdy box (which I'm now using to hold my pens). The person who helped me with my purchase was so kind and careful! I didn't try the pistachio flavor but the others were fantastic. The earl grey macaron was sweet and tasted just like fruit loops. I loved the dried tea leaves on top!! How adorable and charming!! The lemon-lavender macaron duo flavor was expertly balanced. How?? La Maison Navarre magic, evidently. Its design featured a perfect split between pastel yellow and purple hues. The rose macaron flavor was florally but not to the point of tasting like perfume- it was just right. The coffee macaron was a delight! Its filling was pretty sweet but absolutely delicious. Who needs coffee when you have this?! Each macaron was slightly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. The amount of filling was perfect! I'd love to revisit the next time I'm in the area!

Sasha P.

Yelp
Excellent macarons! Cute spot with wine bar and other deserts too. Had sparkling rose in the evening with a macaron filled with raspberry

Yelp
Paris in New Hampshire! In a word: incroyable! The Alpine crepe and cortado was a match made in heaven. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance, the shop goods and the service. Merci!

Yelp
Looking for a place to grab a Matcha and sweet snack and lucked into a very good choice La Maison Navarre ! Will try again . Matcha was the best , crepe's was excellent . Not the best service but very tough finding help now . Definitely recommended!

Yelp
Small locally famous bakery that is Great British Bake Off (obscure treats) meets French fancy (the cashiers spoke French...) meets decadence (enough to last you into dinner). Beautifully made desserts that are must to at least look at their beauty if not sample them. Ambiance has a French cafe feel; black and white with the golden yellow soft lights and hustle and bustle cramped-ish kind of feel a French bakery has in France. We got the chocolate religiouse (essentially a stack of eclairs) and the French Brest (hazelnut filled cream) dessert. Both were delicious and sublime. Very heavy and I think 1 of these cream filled desserts could be spread over a couple hours with a coffee (digestive- skip the cream and enjoy the coffee quality. The pastry itself is your sugar and cream). There is enough filling and cream to definitely bite into one of these and they burst all over. I think that is my only complaint; its a LOT OF FILLING. not a bad thing, but I froze half of the filling to eat as an ice cream the day later. Wished there had been more pastry in ratio. Delicious and decadent. It looks like things you would see on pastry/patisserie day on Great British Baking Show with French accented cashiers serving you. Get it before 2 pm though because like most good bakeries, they close super early and have a good local fan following.

Yelp
This bakery takes me back to being in Paris except it's notably American for its spaciousness. Even the staff speak French here. There's a selection of macarons, croissants and slices of cakes and pastries. They also offer crepes, and ham and baguette sandwiches. The almond croissant is so good; flaky with a smooth almond paste inside. The Nutella strawberry crepe was devoured. We had our order to go but wasn't sure about the crepe because we didn't have time to wait. In the end, we decided to order the crepe and I could tell the woman tried to accommodate by immediately going to the crepe station to make it for us, knowing that we didn't have time to wait. In fact, after she charged my card, I punched in all the other info into the screen because she left abruptly to make our crepe! Prices were very reasonable. Especially for a tourist area. Definitely will be back to try their other pastries if we are in the area.
