The 15 Best Bars In Honolulu - Oahu - The Infatuation

"Newer tiki bars try to capture the Blue Hawaii experience, but La Mariana is the real deal. Established in 1957, it’s Honolulu’s last original tiki bar and the bamboo-lined and palm-fringed oasis continues to serve the old salts with their sailboats parked in the nearby boat harbor, along with tiki-loving tourists. Glass fishing floats hang from the ceiling and remnants of other long-shuttered tiki bars—think pufferfish lamps, carved tikis, and rattan chairs—have found their way here. You’re here for the mai tai and zombie, still garnished with a pineapple wedge and paper umbrella." - martha cheng

"Honolulu's last great tiki bar is tucked behind a row of warehouses, six miles northwest of Waikiki. Set on the edge of Keehi Lagoon, it shelters under plumeria and coconut trees—and will be familiar to fans of Hawaii Five-0 . La Mariana defies the kitsch label: All those shell chandeliers, puffer-fish lights, and fishing floats suspended in nets are the real deal, with mostitems dating back to 1957. Carved tikis abound, alongside high-gloss tables fashioned fromkoa, the rich-hued wood from endemic acacias and the source of weapons and voyaging canoes for ancient Hawaiians. Go for the ambience and strong mai tais; the menu is straight-up, old-school surf and turf, perfectly tasty but uninspiring."

Keep driving. Do not go to this restaurant. I'm legitimately baffled by the 4.4 stars here. Wanted this place to be great. Service is terrible. I'll admit we had a large party. However, the restaurant was not busy at all. The server came to us and took a drink order. The drinks showed up 35 minutes later. The waitress came and took my empty glass after one drink and never asked if I wanted anything else. I drank water, which ended up being the best part of the meal. Food all came out an hour and a half later, which was cold. The steak has zero seasoning and was less than 1/2 inch thick. The server literally slammed my daughter's plate down on the table in front of her after she was unable to take the plate from her fast enough. There's zero vibe, no hospitality, no air conditioning, and no reason to ever return.

Google
A hidden gem, and the last authentic Tiki Bar left on Oahu. Food is nothing fancy, but reasonably priced "bar food" compared to the rest of the Waikiki/Honolulu area. Drinks were good, service was fine, great atmosphere!

Google
Love this place! Very cozy and charming. Great location and views. Food is good and you get larger portions for less cost than most restaurants around the area. The story behind the founding and legacy to keep open are something I appreciate and support.

Google
La Mariana Sailing Club is great! The staff were very nice! The interior was very beautiful with all the coastal and nautical decorations! The marina was beautiful! The food was good, and I really liked the little gift shop they had. Definitely a great restaurant! Have a great day!❤️😃⚓️🌊⛵️

Google
Great food, service, and drinks. Here for a visit and a colleague recommended the place. He said the zombie had fairly earned it's reputation. I had the Mahi burger with onion rings, a blue Hawaiian, and a zombie. Excellent all around.

Google
This is a unique place to eat or have drinks… the atmosphere is amazing. However, I would suggest to just have drinks. The food was okay but you can find much better food on Oahu for a lot cheaper. I had the poke and was not impressed. My husband has the ahi spring rolls and said they were okay. The bartender was great.. Very professional and we lived the atmosphere and vibe.

Google
Nostalgia tiki bar like the one we used to see around the island many years ago, hidden away on sandisland which I never bother to check out living here. History of the place is interesting, drinks are sweet and tropical, food was not bad, service was great and really enjoyed talking to staff. Can't say it'll be place I'd hang out but definitely worth a visit. Try to hit the sunset hour.

Google
Awesome spot…food not that great. Went for a work outing and got the fish tacos. Wasn’t very flavorful and kinda overpriced for two tacos. The location was great and a very neat and nice atmosphere. Not sure if I would return outside of work.

Yelp
Surprisingly as a local girl, I had never been to La Mariana sailing club until this year! I was on my high school reunion committee and our reunion was coming up in June. We had planned a full week of events some were sponsored by our school, others were planned by our class. One of my classmates on the reunion committee mentioned this would be a great place to have a Friday night mixer! We scheduled a time to come out here to look over the menu and sample some of the food. It's one of the last few tiki bars in Hawaii. It has an old feel but was really fun! We all enjoyed the indoor decorations. For our Friday night mixer, we bought out the restaurant, got a DJ and had a lot of fun. Service was good, and the bartender was excellent and friendly. The food was hot and tasty, it's not gourmet. It's bar food, but still was good and I enjoyed it. Also had a chance to try some of their margaritas including mango and li hing. You're able to get no margaritas as well. It was a great event and a very memorable Friday night!

Yelp
This is a super cute area with a gorgeous view of the boats. We were greeted by a cute tabby out front too. Though advertised online, our waitress told us they did not have a kids menu, leading our 5 year old to eat a la cart off the appetizer menu. The drinks were delicious. I had a virgin Lava Flow (pictured). Our waitress was curt when speaking to us, and didn't bring us waters for about 20 minutes even after we asked. There's no air conditioning so we were very grateful for the breezes through the open windows. However, the flies were numerous. My teriyaki chicken was delicious. My husband's cheeseburger was bland. My friend's fish and chips she says were a "10/10"
google avatar

Yelp
I finally made it here to try out after hearing good things for a while. I likes to unique decor and view of the water but it was a bit hot, next time I'll go in the winter I think. Quite a few flies which I didn't like. Anyway, my friend and I both had the mahi burger with onion rings amd we both enjoyed it. The mahi was cooked just right. Service was super friendly. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other menu items.

Yelp
This restaurant has a pleaseant old tiki bar vibe. The food was tasteful and well prepared. The service was pleasant and efficient. No doubt I'll be returning.

Yelp
Sailed here from Hickam Harbor on an outing, which is an awesome feature. The tiki bar motif on the pier is very fitting and sailing in is much nicer than driving here. We received a warm, welcome and friendly service, but the food and drinks were just okay. Nice place to hang out as they have space for large groups.

Yelp
I've been to La Mariana numerous times over the years and I love the atmosphere. We met some mainland friends there on Wed afternoon. The parking situation can be challenging depending on when you get there. We had reservations but the restaurant was pretty busy. We started with pupus and a few drinks. The food here was never great and this time it was mediocre. The onion rings were mushy as are the French fries, obviously an inferior frozen product. The spring rolls weren't very good either, another pre frozen dish. Nachos were good as were the huge portion of poke bowl. The fish in the fish and chips were good but not the fries. I would return because they have live music some nights and this might be Oahu's last remaining Tiki Bar.

Yelp
Been there pre-pandemic wanted to bring my sister for her first time ... she really liked the food the atmosphere and the ambiance. Staff all friendly .. service was great! Only suggestion get those sticky fly traps ...

Yelp
The Mai Tai drink was delicious. This was a perfect escape from the airport after I dropped off my bags at check in and left the airport instead of waiting around forever. We needed one last dinner and drinks before we sent ourselves back to the ice cold east coast. My cousin took us here and we were not disappointed. They both got the ahi tuna tacos and I got the coconut shrimp. There were some other things but I can't remember now. I had a few mai tais which put me right into snooze land for the bumpy first leg of the journey *note. There was a rat that ran around the restaurant from the outdoor seating area into the indoors area. I mean I can imagine it's hard to keep them out when the indoor outdoor is open from top to bottom buttttt make your own mind up
google avatar

Harry B.

Yelp
I don't want to tell you, because the food was good and there weren't many people. Made for a great afternoon lunch with view and great ambiance. Will be back for sure. Took cousins here while visiting and really enjoyed the menu, service and location.

Yelp
Like stepping back into the 50s/60s Hawaii. This place is great from the atmosphere when you first walk up to the atmosphere the whole way in. The drinks are terrific - they're known for their excellent Mai Tai and the food was great too. We had the puppu platter as we were just grabbing something light and a couple of drinks before heading back to Waikiki. If you're looking for authentic old school tiki vibes and friendly service this is your place!

Yelp
It's been more than ten years I visited here. I think last time was,,, I got a request my guest from Japan to come here. This place is famous as "Magnum PI tiki bar". That's mean lots of tourist visit to watch the TV show. Or some tourists post SNS as a hidden hem place you can feel old Hawai'i!? Anyway, we came here as a small group to celebrate uncle's birthday for lunch. Parking is hard. Front of the restaurant space is staff only, so customers have to find a street space(not street parking) or they have some parking spot behind the restaurant. Feels nothing change inside the restaurant (very antique but not dusty old). Here is also "worker shortage" because only two server were working at lunch peak time, so you need a little bit patient to get your table or order or serve. We ordered chips for appetizer that was good. I ordered ahi tacos, that is just right size to kill it. Others ordered, fish & chips, club sandwich, fish burger, and coconuts shrimp from their special. Price is not bad, taste is okay level. Well, it was birthday lunch, so we brought the mini whole cake just little celebrate to uncle. I always felt little concern is it okay to bring dessert when we go to local business restaurants, but every time they said no problem and happy birthday. (Some restaurant staff brought us plates and folks) so there days I had no worries but our waitress said to us NO outside food, we have dessert and no plates and folks provide. (We always bring plates, folks, cake knife, anyway) The way how she told us was little mean, so we all felt WOW. (But uncle was happy he got whole cake by himself! Lol!!) Well, it's nice place to feel old Hawaiian mood especially to take your guest but for me will be back here maybe ten years later.

Yelp
Picked a friend up at the airport and wanted to take her out for watching our dog. Plus the original Tiki bar and grill was close enough to the airport to see the sun go down since she arrived around that time. It was our first time at the restaurant. We heard about it being one of the film locations for TV series. Liked all the old original items that decorated the place located at the harbor. It was kinda campy but loved the atmosphere. Have to admit to being a little occupied and did not take many pictures. We enjoyed our meals, the service was friendly and prompt. Finding the restaurant is little odd when following my mapping program on my phone.

Yelp
So surprised about the low rating on this place. Yes, it was expensive but what in Oahu isn't. But the food was great (most of the family got Prime Rib) and wife got blackened chicken pasta that she thought was best meal of trip. But cool history, ambiance and service was spot on. Was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle as well because this was outside of downtown Waikiki

Yelp
I love the authentic vibe here and the amazing Polynesian carving decorations but after many years of appreciating its ambiance, I am afraid the la Mariana has lost its charm. Th zombie was potent and fine but other assortment of drinks was comparable to Applebees , weak and tasteless. The calamari was some truly awful, made of who knows what but it was NOT calamari......thick tired breaded STICKS and the $22 nachos were pitifully small, uninspired and barely eatable. The dinning room was hot and with no air flow, stifling actually and not a place to linger other than admire the great blow fish and Japanese fishing float lanterns. I guess all good things must come to an end and the Mariana is past its prime....

Yelp
La Mariana is always our first stop when we visit Oahu. The drinks are ALWAYS delicious, i've yet to have cocktail here I haven't enjoyed. Solid food within a smaller menu. Fish and Chips were good! 3 pieces of fish and fries. NY Strip Steak Pupu (appetizer) was yummy but for the amount you get it's a bit overpriced at $21. From when we sat down it took around 7 minutes for our server to come to our table, but once she came to introduce herself and take orders, the drinks and food came out reasonably quick. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare, we waited 20 minutes for a spot to open up, and had 3 cars waiting behind us waiting for a spot too. Since it's nestled between factory buildings and private property signs there is no "street parking". If you come around lunch or dinner times, be prepared to have to stake out for a parking spot. Once inside the restaurant, if it's hot outside, expect it to be just as hot inside. There is no AC and in some spots no breeze. We were practically sweating by the end of our meal. This wasn't an issue for us before but figure it just depends on how close you are seated to the outside which we were much farther inside than usual. We continue to love and support La Mariana. It's a beautiful tiki bar, totally casual and family friendly but with such a great atmosphere. Parking and lack of AC can be slightly off-putting but for the experience and great drinks we will continue to come back to this classic when in the area.

Yelp
Hard to find parking and we even got there earlier than Happy Hour. We had a table overlooking the Marina and stayed long enough to watch the sunset. Surprisingly packed for being in an industrial area but maybe that's the charm, that it's a hidden gem. Highly recommend, they say that it was featured in the show "Hawaii Five-O".
google avatar

Yelp
A real old school Honolulu Tiki Bar in Oahu, hidden in an alley. The food is average, the drinks are great, but the atmosphere is completely vintage and unspoiled. As you sit sipping your Mai Tai, you can almost hear the thousands of stories and boasts that have floated through this bar over dozens of years. If you're in Oahu, this is a must see.
google avatar

Rayne U.

Yelp
Old school touristy tiki bar off Sand Island Access Rd overlooking the marina. If you've hit the dry dock, you've gone too far. Street parking (signs state to park diagonally). This place has been around for a hot minute. Dark interior with all sorts of eclectic ocean art. Glass fishing balls, tikis, old school furniture. Clean, plenty of seating, nice bar area. Lots of aquariums, plenty to look at & soak in. All sorts of foofoo drinks (Blue Hawaii, Mai Tais, etc) besides your regular common drinks. Pious were great. Ono fish & chips were ONO & plentiful. Bartender Jesse was friendly. Prices are fair & decent.

JR R.

Yelp
We headed over to this place after landing in Honolulu. It's just 7 minutes from the airport. Great drinks, super water front ambiance. The food was great. Service very well done. We're going to make it a regular stop.
google avatar

Yelp
This is by far one of the coolest, most authentic Hawaii centric marina 'tiki bars I've ever been in, but without all the gross cob webs and dust bunny accoutrement you find in other places. Service is average, and the menu looks like it never changes, but wat do you really need to do to fish and chips? If I ran this place, I'd be happy for the rest of my life. Come here. The décor is actually authentic, not replicas. Kapa, tiki, masks, glass floats, lauhala and the works. It's epic. I was sad to leave because it was like the reality of a fairly tale dream I had.

Yelp
I friggin LOVE me a tiki bar and this is the Queen of old kitschy Hawaii tiki joints! From the moment you walk on property, you are greeted by plants, bamboo fencing, tiki decor, and you feel like you stepped back in time to 1940. I would almost expect a pinup girl to walk through the front door as I sat at the bar. You might think a place like this would serve overly sugared, silly drinks and mediocre food, but you would be wrong. The cocktails are wicked strong, and two of them will probably have you swaying like a sailor on a ship. The food is also excellent. We got several appetizers and entrées, and then of course dessert. All of it was top notch. The best part was that we went on a Tuesday afternoon because it was a state holiday and I had the day off work. The place was not at all crowded and we felt like we had it to ourselves... This little oasis in the middle of an industrial area. it allowed me to walk around and take photos of Tikki collection and appreciate the beautiful architecture of this bar.

Yelp
First things first.. MK was great! When you walk in, it took a while to get acknowledged but their sign does say they are short staffed. Once we were greeted by MK or Mary Kat our experience changed. She was great, very attentive and very sweet server.. We ordered a round of drinks + calamari to start -Mai tai (7/10) decent maintai -Margarita 7/10 (bitter) -Hawaiian Sunset (sweet but strong) 10/10 -Singapore Sling (very good) 9/10 * all drinks come with a kick so no need to order a floater Food: -ahi butter, capers (very good) 10/10 -ahi burger (very good) 9/10 -butterfly shrimp (very good) 10/10 *Mac salad is to die for, comes with a big portion too Ambiance: campy Hawaiian style restaurant with a tiki feel.. very cute, very small but feels like you are In a movie.. caution (restaurant is open air so it can be stuffy) Overall; we will return, preferably with a night that has live music! Very good meal *sit at the bar if you want that true tiki hut feel

Yelp
Yikes!! You would never expect a "tiki type restaurant" in a questionable industrial sketchy setting...yep La Mariana is in that type of area...if you follow GPS and after turning down the rutted buss up road maybe feel a bit apprehensive then you have arrived lol..parkibg is wherever you can fit Anyways once you get past that feeling of fear you will be pleased by a very out of the way "old hawaii" type of restaurant...The decor is very bamboo-ey and some might say "old hawaii touristy" (grass hut tiki vibe) I just call it cool. (Oh by the way no ac ) but cool nontheless... The staff is cool and personable..service was good but be forewarned like every other place nowdays this place is somewhat under staffed. The atmosphere is retro and the menu is a mix of burgers fries... fish..tacos etc....I went with the "Ono fish and chips" and I dont know if it was called "ono" because that was the type of fish or was it called "ono" as in delicious...well it was ono (delicious) I might even say probably the best fish and chips on oahu (IMHO) white flaky seasoned fish..crispy batter with fries tartar sauce and a small lemon..... Prices not cheap but not expensive just "doable" $20.00....anyways try this place out its so retro cool!!

Yelp
So we stopped by earlier this year but parking lot seemed packed so we didn't go the first time. Yesterday we went at 5pm and it was pretty empty for a Saturday but maybe because the summer tourist season is over. Specifically chose this place to try because of the Tiki Bar ambiance and vintage feel. We did have drinks/pupu and main course. Food was fine for your average bar-type place but my Fish & Chips (i switched out for rings) had 3 very large pieces of Ono (not cod) and lots of rings! My friend had the shrimp/bacon/avocado sandwich which would have been better if it was done as a melt with cheese. The mixed drinks were stronger than your average bar and were good and not watered down. Service was prompt and friendly (maybe because it wasn't crowded) and enjoyed it. Too bad the gift shop closed when we left but took a quick look inside as we arrived...oh well next time! Definitely go check it out for the Tiki decor ambiance and don't judge solely on the limited food offerings (but they do have regular specials).
google avatar

Carey D.

Yelp
My tuna steak was cooked perfectly! And I really enjoyed our coconut shrimp appetizer. This place is a really tiki bar. Wait staff were all friendly and the drinks are fantastic. I'm so glad we went.
google avatar

Shani S.

Yelp
Tiki Tiki Tiki! Take me back to Gilligan's Island holding a mai tai with 10 little pink umbrellas in it! This place feels like it was dropped in this location 100 years ago and has not changed one bit. Think full on grass hula skirt, tiki torches, old wooden furniture, gorgeous water views, loud Hawaiian shirts etc. You go for the ambiance, not the food. The food is.... fine. If you are hungry you will find something but that's not the reason you go to this place. You go to just step away from the "normal". I would recommend making it a "theme" night and taking a bunch of friends! Great sunset views. Easy parking
google avatar

Ernie W.

Yelp
ICONIC!! Food is pretty good, service is "local style wonderful" and ambiance is incredible...old Hawaii. If you want to step into the past in old Hawaii, La Mariana is by far, the best place to do it, especially at night!!
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
The food is excellent, service is speedy anf the ambiance is the best if you're looking for old-world Tiki. It's a dive bar/restaurant. That's intended to be a compliment.

Yelp
Hadn't been to this well known eatery in years so it was a real treat to return. When you walk in it's like stepping back in time when Honolulu didn't have mile high condominiums and you could hear soothing Hawaiian music played everywhere. We had reservations for our large group (there was already a large group of men right behind us) and thankfully, the place wasn't packed but had quite a few people enjoying their meals & drinks closer to the open "windows", which overlook the ocean and piers where private boats were docked. Because it was lunchtime and not everyone in our group arrived at the same time we had to wait for drinks (not too long). Lunch took awhile to come as well and the the Maître 'D wasn't too happy about how many chairs we squeezed around two tables. Our server, Star, was a star as she took our orders and brought everything out as items were ready. She had patience with us (bless her heart for her kindness) throughout the process. As a future reminder, La Mariana charges a 20% gratuity on groups larger than 6 and they only provide one check, not individual. Make sure you have at least one person in your group who's good at counting and making sure everyone has put in their portion.
google avatar

Tiffany R.

Yelp
Cool real tiki feel, right on the Mariana. Super hot and gross but it's super cool! No ac but fans everywhere. The bar is super authentic. I ordered the piña colada with vodka. It was lame, basically a slushy. My hubby ordered the blue Hawaiian which you could definitely taste the booze. They ran out of the shrimp and ahi so we just got one drink and left. I would def come back

Yelp
What a great historical find on our vacation:) More Tiki In Waikiki this is a true authentic vintage tiki bar across from the marina ouir bartender gave us a brief history of this place and as he talked we just could imagine how it was in the 30's& 40's its like a step back in time. The Drinks are fabulous I had the "Original MaiTai" The Best!! Ii aslo had a Blue Hawaiian which was blended a different take but just as yummy!! it Paird well with the "Fresh Catch" of the day the "Tuna Sashimi" I have not had better fresh fish than this OMG it was the best of the best freshest fish :) This Place every where you looked it had the decor and history I truly loved this place with all the nostalgia and charm it had we will definately be returning to this place :) If you are a vintage tiki fan you will love it. Yelp
Beautiful throwback tiki style bar and restaurant. Definitely recommend checking it out for the cool ambiance and retro vibes. Just grab a drink from the bar and skip dining here. The restaurant is a struggle to put it nicely. They are way understaffed and service is almost nonexistent. Our server was also the hostess and had to bus all her tables as well. Her demeanor was unpleasant yet you had to feel sorry for her due to the working conditions she was up against. Open air and no AC, they put little fans on you table to help keep the flys away from your food.

Yelp
The real deal Tiki bar for "Rick's Bar" on the 2nd generation Tv show "Magnum PI"although not while as 'hollywood"as the show set up (they use a mock stage on the TV show) this hole in the wall place is well worth the trip food.is good not great but the drinks.are wet and served with a.smile plus the.umbrella--cheers al

Yelp
The most impressive was that our beautiful server happened to also host and welcomed ppl in. She was extremely patient and pleasant. She was able to answer all of our queries regarding the dishes!!! She was AWESOME!!! The restaurant is quite an open style so no a/c which was fine. The weather was nice on the day we were there... However, because it's open, the negative thing were the FLIES! They obviously know good food and they'll try to join your party! The waitress brought us a helicopter thingy to help keep the flies away... it didn't do a thing! Those flies "no scared"! Dem buggas! Would have been 5 stars if not for da flies!!!

Yelp
Such a classic vibe. Think classic Hawai'i. Tiki bar that's kitschy but not cheesy. It's known to be the last true tiki bar on Oahu. Renovated and reopened in 2022, I am so glad to have finally checked this spot out after hearing so much about it. History lesson: originally opened in Sand Island in the late 1950s by Annette La Mariana Nahinu along side her husband. The current standing establishment originally opened in 1975 after weather destroyed the original structure. Since most tiki bars closed Annette collected the relics from around Oahu, which are displayed around La Marianna. While Annette died in 2008, her tiki bar tradition lives on, transporting you back in time. Walk in and you're immediately immersed in Bali Hai style. Lots of fishing nets, colorful sea-glass balls, old carved tikis, seashell and pufferfish lamps with koa wood tables and rattan chairs. There's even a waterfall inside the restaurant! The sunset views are something else! Serving up classic cocktails (Mai Tai is a must!) and Hawaiian bar food which is simple, no frills, decent but also nothing to write home about. From friends, I've heard the menu has downsized but prices are fair and portions are decent. You come here for the ambiance and stay for the drinks. Live music 7 days/week. Plenty of seating. Service was great! Sure you can drive up to enjoy the establishment but it's also fun to arrive by boat and park at the private marina. I hope this place stays around for another 100+ years!

Yelp
I know how hard it is for businesses to stay afloat, especially after the "C" word a few years back. Its gotta be even harder in a more expensive area like Hawaii. I just wish that this place could do better. PEOPLE, this place needs help! This place needs your business! Ive heard so many great things about this location, even being part of a great TV show. Listen, I get it. But please help this location out so they can bring some better food offerings back. The ambiance, the service, the drinks are all amazing, but a few smatterings of fried foods were not what I wanted.

Yelp
The perfect dive Tiki Bar!! he will wonder where in the hell you are at as you're finding parking. The beach SeaBee scene will get you there complete with vintage Jeep. Just keep walking along the marina. And then boom you are in Mai Tai heaven. Good food too. Be careful the drinks are strong!! Make sure you bring some navigation to get back to where you want to be.

Yelp
Great drinks, and the food was good other than the chips and salsa which we were convinced was just pace picante and some store bought tortilla chips. The staff were extremely nice, and there was good ambiance. It definitely seems like a local spot. On our way out we met a very charming kitten who was hanging out underneath the jalopy parked out front, which was a huge bonus to an already good meal. 5/5.

Yelp
We were so excited to visit La Mariana after seeing all the good reviews, but our experience wasn't great at all. The service was really bad - waited almost 15 minutes to be greeted, and our waitress was allegedly new and didn't know anything about the food or drinks. She also didn't put in half our order until we questioned her about it a while later, and what was delivered to our table wasn't exactly what we ordered. The food was also disappointing. Our Cajun Mahi wasn't seared at all and the seasoning was relatively bland. The drinks were really strong, but to the point where it almost felt like you were taking a shot with each sip. Did like the ambiance and decor, but not enough to come back.

Yelp
La Mariana Sailing Club is one of the oldest tiki bars still in operation in Honolulu and one of our favorite places to bring family and friends visiting the islands. The ambiance is a perfect mix of fun and kitschy Hawaii vibes while representing the history of the family who started this business. The menu consists of no frills classic bar food and the strong tropical cocktails. The service is great especially if you're able to snag a bar seat. They underwent a renovation during the pandemic and locals and tourists alike could not be happier this establishment reopened and is back in full force.

Yelp
Been wanting to come to La Mariana Sailing Club Restaurant and Bar for about 20 years now... always heard from the grapevine that it was a tiki bar like no other in Oahu or the entire state of Hawaii. Even Anthony Bourdain came to visit here on one of his episodes. The recent Hawaii 5-0 tv series also filmed a segment here with Carol Burnett singing a song inside the restaurant. Decided last week I wanted to go someplace to eat that was 'exotic and special' and so invited my brother and sister-in-law to have lunch with me there. I checked Google Street View maps to see how the parking situation was for that area and looked to be adequate for the most part as there is a private parking lot on the EWA side (not the DH side as that is for ONLY employees as per the signage) that has parking for handicapped and perhaps about 6+ regular stalls. As for street side parking fronting the restaurant, one parks perpendicular while across the street, one parks parallel. The main entry from the DH side (where most people would walk through) unless they know of the restaurant's small parking lot on the Ewa side has several scenic areas to take photos before reaching the host table past the tiki inspired vertical posts covered walkway. Being that we just arrived there a few minutes after the 11am opening today (Thursday), there weren't that many customers inside. Our waitress, Jackie took good care of us throughout our lunch as we sat at a table for four at the front edge where people would form a line as they wait to be seated. As it wasn't busy, our view of Keehi Harbor with all the sailboats were unobstructed, but if were busy I don't know if I would like that seating area as those waiting in line would be looking at you while they wait in line... lol. I ordered $11 edamame (half regular and half spicy garlic) and the $14 garlic fries as our appetizers along with the $12 Lava Flow drinks for my brother and I. Jackie told us that usually they can't do half and half of the edamame if it were busy, but since it was not busy, they'd be able to do so. She did mention that they ran out of spicy oil, so it would just be garlic edamame which I accepted. We enjoyed both of our appetizers and gave good comments about it. The Lava Flow drink I chose was due to watching Misty 'Food Fiend' on YouTube when she visited with friends in November 2022 to rate some drinks. Both of us agreed that the Lava Flow (a pina colada with strawberry puree) was a *very good* pick with not overpowering alcohol. The Lava Flow drink is 5 stars out of 5 in my book and both of us loved it! I ordered the $19 mahi-mahi sandwich with the side I chose being their cole slaw. It came with the buns grilled, a slice of lemon and tartar sauce along with lettuce, fresh white onions and a tomato slice. I normally would add a lot of tartar sauce to a fish entree but it really wasn't needed that much on this sandwich as it tasted so good with just little tartar sauce. The other two also glossed over how much they liked their entrees, a $19 cocktail shrimp/avocado slices/bacon slices sandwich that he chose with cole slaw and a $22 grilled ahi with butter, lemon and capers with rice plate as the portions were generous. The chopped-up cabbage and carrots cole slaw came in a small bowl in a creamy sweet dressing with a slight taste of vinegar. I wanted another drink with my entree, so I asked Jackie for the $13 Singapore Sling (gin, Grand Marnier, club soda, grenadine, etc). As the Lava Flow gave me just a little buzz, I asked her if she could lighten the alcohol content on the gin and Grand Marnier and she said they could. Drinking the Singapore Sling wasn't my cup of tea, and after drinking just half of it, I stopped. I would rate this drink a 2.5 stars out of 5 and would not get it again. While we were enjoying the excellent ambiance of this beautiful back in time tiki bar we all said without hesitation that we would all like to return to La Mariana. Please note that there is NO air conditioning, just all natural breezes (if there are tradewinds like today during our visit). I have heard from some people that when there are no tradewinds, it is sweaty if you sit further inside the restaurant. As we were nearing the end of eating our meal, Jackie asked us if we wanted dessert (the menu they provided do not show any dessert, but their (very outdated) website do show several desserts such as their Mudd Pie, sorbets, etc.). Though I really wanted to try the Mudd Pie, we were pretty much full on the appetizers and our entrees so passed on dessert --- so just fyi that they are available. Shucks, should have gone to the bathroom just to look if it is also decorated like the restaurant's interior and exterior. Maybe just go to 'visit' even though you don't need to? Don't forget the photo ops inside and outside the restaurant as you won't regret taking them ! It would be a great place to take your visitors to eat and have some cocktails !

Yelp
We are huge tiki fans, and this place is my favorite tiki bar I've ever been to. Drinks are not too sweet, strong, delicious, authentic to OG recipes. Ocean view. Gorgeous. Original decor from Don the Beachcomber, Trader Vic's, and more. Spotlessly clean and fabulously tiki, but with dive pricing. All the quality with none of the cost. Preferred this place to Skull and Crown, which is saying something. This bar just became my whole personality.

Yelp
I enjoy this place alot! A friend of mine from the mainland came in and he has never been to this wonderful tiki bar. We ordered drinks and had a great lunch. La Mariana has a great atmosphere the interior work they did during COVID has not taken away from the place but has made it much cleaner looking while maintaining that open atmosphere. The menu is back to their pre COVID menu which is good. But we kept it simple for lunch. We ordered drinks and their MP Ahi Sashimi, Coconut shrimp and Calamari. All were excellent. The Ahi was fresh as it smelled of the sea, the coconut shrimp and calamari were perfectly cooked and not overcooked. The only negative thing is the waitstaff we had. They are new eg came aboard about Jul when they relaunched. She was not very pleasant in a lunch their back in November and she still has the chip on her shoulder and really doesn't want to get a tip or acts like she doesn't. Shes very inattentive and cannot multi-task at all. It took 35 minutes just to get the bill and pay it. She walked by and looked at us several times and we signaled for the bill but she'd quickly look away pretending she didn't see us. I just wish they'd get some wait staff that are more pleasant and friendly. So a docked a star. Otherwise 5/5.

Yelp
So glad that they reopened. A super chill place for locals and tourists. Limited menu at lunch. I would have like more descriptions of the cocktails and food, but our server was super quick to answer any questions we had. Drinks. Got my go-to first. The Zombie. Which I describe as an Uber-Mai-tai. So tasty, not too sweet and more alcohol! They have a limited amount of local craft beers, so I ordered a Kona Craft Light to go with our food. Food. We had a few pupus to share. My favorite was the ahi poke, which not only included onions but also tomato and cucumber, which added an extra level of freshness and flavor. The springs rolls were pretty standard. It was more wrapper than filling, and the steak was well cooked. Overall, I'm glad that LA Mariana's is still there to remind us of 'old Hawai'i'. The decor is awesome, and they definitely did some sprucing up while they were closed!

Yelp
Was back in Hawaii for the 1st time in years. Last Marianas was one of my favorites when I was stationed there. I was told it closed for a while when the owner died and there were some legal issues with new ownership, but appears to be all good and was just as great as I remember. They no longer have the piano player though, which is sad. Food and atmosphere was great.

Yelp
The most iconic thing about La Mariana is it's location. It's located in a secluded part of town that is away from the hustle and bustle. It's a low key tiki restaurant with a great view to relax and watch the sunset. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere and decor are cozy. I tried the fish and chips and it was really unique to others that I've tried. They fry a large piece of fish and the battery is extremely crispy while the inside is tender and juicy. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a laid-back place to chill and drink with friends that isn't too loud.
