If you at all follow my reviews you know I like Tacos. Not those Fake ass taco bell tacos but real tacos. Sometimes I get these cravings and I just can't help it, I got to have them. This latest episode hit me at 9am, actually sooner and this was my first available opportunity. I hit up one of the most consistent average/good taco spot, Tijuana Tacos. I've noticed them open at this time and I knew what I would be getting. One thing bothered me though....No all you can eat bean with mystery meat and hot dog. I equate this to having a cheeseburger without the cheese and it is not going to happen, not on my watch.
I panicked for a minute. I knew of one other place, actually a few but they would have been out of the way. So I finally scratched the itch. I went to La Mazorca. This place had caught my eyes for a few years. Not so much for its location or its building architecture, not so much on any of these. They make masa, so I assume they have fresh tortillas. This is the floor plan of a good taco. Without a good tortilla a taco is just meat with shit on it that you eat with a fork, hence not a taco, I don't know what you call that?
I will say one thing. The outside of La Mazorca it does not overpromise! The carneceria/taco is hidden around the corner and took me a minute to find and this place is tiny. I was kind of tempted to leave but the guy had already seen me and I think It would bother me forever knowing I was so close to finally adding or omitting La Mazorca as one of my go to places, after all I had I high hopes...fresh tortillas.
I never really found out if the tortillas were fresh or not and it probably didn't matter since they dipped them in oil, not a fan. I've had too many good tacos that eliminated this process and I don't feel it really ads anything other than greasy hands and fat/calories. The meat was just kind of sitting there and mashed up and cut up. At one point I really couldn't tell which I was eating and it tasted the same and I saw him get it from two different trays.
One good thing did come out of this experience; I no longer pass this place in wonder of the greatness that I could possibly behold. I will say this on its behalf, I talked to a few people about this place and after I was shamed and reprimanded for my negative commentary, I was assured that their tacos are acutally good and it was my fault for going so early and eating yesterday's leftover meat and to top it off I was told I wouldn't understand because I'm not a real Mexican anyway. Either way I guess it's just more tacos for them....and anyone else who doesn't heed my advice/warnings/threats!
