"En route for the French Riviera, the movie stars of Paris, from Mistinguett to Jean Gabin and Fernandel, used to stop off in this village, so beloved of wine buffs. The restaurant is still named after its founder, Germaine Vion (1922). Huge murals depicting Belle Époque Paris “à la Toulouse-Lautrec” set the scene indoors and the patio commands a panoramic view of the vineyards. Belgian chef Christophe Hardiquest (Menssa in Brussels) crafts Provence’s ingredients and vegetables into modern, Mediterranean dishes oozing in forthright flavours (particularly the vegetarian menu). The splendid wine list features a knock-out selection of Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintages." - Michelin Inspector

Increíble experience. Food view service plus the staff love their work. If you want to go big in Provenance. This is worth it. So different from overly serious US restaurants. This was good and fun.

Food is very good. Wine list is extensive but pretty overpriced. Sommelier eager to help but lacked knowledge of the list, beyond a few local choices. Wine pricing and quality of service are critical for a wine region restaurant. Also, the somm served wine in a very incorrect glass.

A beautiful small hotel over 2 buildings right in the square of Chateauneufe de Pape, with the advantage of having car parking!|The rooms are up stairs (we stayed in the restaurant side of the hotel) and our room (number 8) had a beautiful view across the vineyards to Avignon in the distance both from the bedroom and the shower.|The staff are lovely and helpful, our man had lived in Australia so we had a chat about the differences between here and there!|We enjoyed dinner at both of their restaurants, the main one being degustation which is well worth doing with attentive staff and an excellent sommelier - perhaps the first sommelier ever to sell you a wine less expensive than your own choice! - be guided by his wine choices he is right!|The food was delicious and beautifully presented.|The Le Comptoir was great bistro style food in another lovely spot, the maître d’ is typical in his more old school personality (little grumpy) but warmed up as the meal progressed. The other staff all very friendly and the food absolutely delicious, have the pissaladiere to kick things off!|A great stay in a lovely quiet village.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel La Mère Germaine for our first stop on our honeymoon. When the hotel staff learned that it was our honeymoon, they went out of their way to make our stay even more special. The staff and service at the hotel was wonderful. The hotel is in a beautiful spot with a gorgeous view and breakfast was lovely. We did not have lunch or dinner at the restaurant but it smelled delicious. Would definitely stay at the hotel again.

Long story short, they don't pay attention to allergies. I told them multiple times about a severe shellfish allergy. Twice upon making my reservation. Twice upon my arrival. I was assured each time that it wouldn't be a problem. Additionally, I went through the 5 course tasting menu since that is what I intended to order. I pointed out the dishes that I couldn't eat and was assured that it wasn't a problem and that they could make substitutions. After all of that, they served me a dish that included a bisque made with lobster. I knew it upon my first taste. When I asked the staff, they confirmed my suspicion. They removed the dish and apologized. When I received my bill, there was no adjustment made. I even paid for the dish that I couldn't eat???? So disappointing, I expected better. Now, on my last night in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, instead of enjoying the town, I'm in bed drugged to on benadryl and covered in hydrocortisone cream to try to battle the hives. Thank God I didn't have to use my epi pen.

Heaven is being served daily here. Get a reservation, relax, enjoy and drift off into another place of sensory experiences that will make you feel like you have taken a vacation from the world. For one evening you will feel treated like royalty. The flavors will dance in your mouth and each course will be an absolute pleasure. Wish I could eat here every day of the rest of my life. That good. Having eaten at many of the finest restaurants in the world, I can say that this is one of the best ever. We had a starter that was incredible, I copied them below Beetroot Berlingot, red and yellow Chioggia stuffed with green asparagus and pine nuts. Asparagus tips rolled in olive oil and orange mint. Iodized trout egg Mediterranean Shellfish and Crustaceans. Airy hummus refreshed with sake and citrus fruits These were both excellent. I hate beets and I loved the beetroot. The shellfish was my dish and I was supremely happy. Wine pairings were perfect. Followed by these for mains Beef cheek with red wine from our vines Melting vegetable garden and grilled eggplant, marjoram, Châteauneuf-du-Pape sauce and Lamb Saddle and a piece of shoulder with some hummus and cauliflower. (I'm missing some description as I could not find a complete menu) The lamb saddle was like butter, so the crunchy vegetables were a great combination. The beef cheek I regret not having, my wife literally could not stop smiling. Thank god she let me try some. Smooth, tasty and decadent. We had a palate cleanser that was superb -not pictured, but no recollection what magic I ate. Then for dessert, Journey between Provence and the Islands, around the country’s citrus fruits and our emblematic herbs The view was amazing. The staff was gracious. Sommelier was perfect in making a pairing even though we ordered one item off the tasting menu for our 4 course meal. Get to this place as soon as possible and enjoy a Slice of Heaven!

The restaurant was the highlight of our trip. We had the tasting menu, they even had a vegetarian option. They have dog friendly rooms, finished to a high standard. The restaurant was dog friendly too. We sat outside. The setting has a nice atmosphere.

Yelp
We have eaten at Le Comptoir de la Mere Germaine quite few times, some just my wife and I, more often with friends from Sablet or the USA. Generally, we have been very happy with the welcome, menu offerings, preparation, plating, and service. Tonight was not a good experience. There was only a couple of small starters for a vegetarian like my wife, leek in vinaigrette, and a mushroom tartine. We asked about other options for a vegetarian, and the manager who took our order said they couldn't do anything for her, didn't even consult the chef. There were parts of other dishes that could have been combined, such as pasta, vegetables, and mushrooms, into a very tasty vegetarian main course. But he didn't make any effort, totally lacked creativity, certainly didn't care about his customers experience. Not sure if he wanted us to get up and walk out. They could have done so much better. The rest of us were happy with our meals, but uncomfortable with my wife going hungry. As a restaurant owner for 10 years, I know it doesn't take a lot of effort to provide for guests with special diets.

Yelp
Great Michelin star restaurant in chateauneuf du pape. Really two menu choices but they are flexible given food preferences, you just have to ask. Not sure on English capability as we did everything in French. Four of us got a table on th night in July via the fork app. Only co plaint was tge safron ice cream which is a chocolate moo that just should not be.

Yelp
La mère Germaine is an excellent restaurant in the village, in the area of chateauneuf du pape. I came to eat true French local food and was not disappointed. The wine was excellent, the cheese and overall card amazing. A very traditional and beautiful place. I recommend as the ambiance is sober and class. The service is flawless.

Yelp
Wow! One of the best meals I have ever had. Such an incredible experience. The staff made it a really amazing experience with lots of courses we were not expecting. Enzo was our server and he was incredible and we can't thank him enough for helping us get a taxi at the end of our meal. 10/10

Yelp
I've been traveling France for a month and through all the restaurants I've been to I though this would be the best and I was completely wrong. The service was horrible. The waiters and waitresses said we had no reservation and sent us up the road to their another restaurant not offering to call or help. We came back and they suddenly found our reservation. They denied us the choice of wine we wanted and tried to offer us a cheap wine opposed to the wine of the region which is part of the reason why we came. Our tour guide was mortified. They refused to explain the dishes and stuck their noses up at us even though we paid the same price as everyone else. The food was alright and they didn't care too much about our dietary needs. They offered us dishes outside of our prepaid portions and gave no warning. The view was great though. We wine tasted in the area and we were told after the fact that many other locals and travelers have had this experience recently. Unsure if the management has changed since the good reviews or if people are amazed by a star throwing the negativity to the side but I'd say save your money and find a local restaurant that will treat you like family and give you the meal you didn't know you needed.

Yelp
Great find. In town with a group and looked for something off the beaten tourist path. Found it. Staff was as attentive or subdued as you'd like them to be. Had the salmon starter and it was delicious. I apologize, consumed it before thinking of a photo. Followed by an excellent sea bass. All married with an outstanding rose'. A "can't beat" location and restaurant.

Yelp
Was staying in a chateau down the road with a restaurant too stuffy for our taste and drove into town. We happened upon La Mere Germaine and had the most delightful meal. The owner was so kind to my friends and me, gave wonderful recommendations on wine, and the food was delicious. We asked if we could stop for breakfast there the next morning even though we weren't overnight guests. The next morning a table was waiting for us with fresh roses and hot pastries. This trip was 8 years ago, and I just found a notecard Andre gave to us when we left, which reminded me of what a great time we had. I hope everyone there is doing well during the pandemic!

Yelp
An absolutely wonderful experience. Definitely deserving of a Michelin Star! The food was sumptuous, the service superb and the ambiance delightful. Definitely a must stop in Châteauneuf-du-Pape!!

Yelp
La Mere Germaine is an institution! Founded in 1922 by Mme Vion, a chef to the presidents of France, and recently reopened after extensive renovations and new management, the restaurant is located in the heart of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It is where most wine wheeling and dealing takes place as well as a gastronomic destination for wine and food lovers from all over the world. The menu changes with the daily market.

Yelp
The scallops were amazing - the rest of dinner was good - but nothing to write home about. The staff was friendly and helped us translate the menu. Don't think it was worth the 101 euro...

Amjad S.

Yelp
Octopus and shrimp with eggplant flower was solid. Very good. Foie with apricots was outstanding. Just awesome. Duck risotto was also awesome. Steak was solid. Cheese plate was mediocre. But they did give us meringues! Eat on the back patio; it is great. This place is a winner.

Yelp
We love this place! David is an excellent chef. It's in the heart of Chateauneuf and has a nice view of the countryside.

Sunil W.

Yelp
Decent food. Well cooked. Tasty but not outstanding. Disappointing by Provence expectations. Not memorable, Efficient service and less time consuming than many others.

Elle C.

Yelp
Best food in the village, very happy it's down the street from my apartment. Like most places in a small village make sure you call ahead to make sure they're open, serving etc. Somewhere to go when you're in the mood to savor Chateauneuf.
