On the Grid : La Mezcaleria

"This one is definitely somewhere in my top three places to eat in the neighbourhood. The food is focused on staying authentically Mexican while maintaining a commitment to local and ethically sourced ingredients such as fish. The molcajetes are a particular favourite of mine; traditional stone mortars repurposed to serve fiery hot fillings for tortillas. There is also a dizzying array of different tequilas and mezcals available in curated flights as well as Mexican inspired cocktails. This is my go-to Mexican experience in the city." - Asterios Moutsokapas

La Mezcaleria - Review - Commerial Drive - Vancouver - The Infatuation

"We’re not sure what we like more at La Mezcaleria, the Mexican food or the long list of different types of mezcal and cocktails. It’s lively, but not so loud that you have to yell or use exaggerated hand gestures to communicate with other people, so it’s a great place to start a night out or for when you’re celebrating something. The Commercial Drive location usually has a wait on the weekend nights, so making a booking is a good idea. It’s our favorite location, but they also have one in Gastown, which tends to attract a younger, louder crowd. Whichever you go to, just don’t leave Vancouver without trying their queso fundido with chorizo that you’ll want to drink with a straw when no one’s looking." - Shelley Mason

The tacos were full of flavour!! I especially loved the mushroom one, it was so good! The Queso Fundido was more of a unique experience, served in a special bowl with lots of melted cheese. The presentation was amazing, and while it's a bit overpriced, it's definitely worth trying!

I have gone here a couple times since I’ve moved. They food is outstanding and the portions are very generous. The staff are super friendly and are really helpful with recommending dishes. Our server Dhayes was amazing she really made us feel welcome and recommended some amazing dishes. We had the Zarandeado Shrimps, Enchiladas Verdes and Guacamole. All of them were just delicious ! The Baja Fish Burrito is such a filling and delicious dish definitely for lunch time on a warm day.

Google
Amazing food. The queso fundido is incredible. We tried the carne, fish, shrimp, octopus, and pork belly tacos all were very good. 4 stars as it is quite expensive, 4 people including two kids and the bill was over $200

Google
The food was exceptional, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, providing helpful recommendations for menu selections. Highly recommended.

I had mixed feelings about my visit to El Mezcaleria in Vancouver, BC. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the service was good, but the portion sizes left much to be desired. For a table of six, we started with an appetizer that came with just four small tortillas. Each tortilla could be broken into about four chips, which disappeared instantly. We asked for more and received just four more tortillas, which also vanished quickly. It was puzzling, as most Mexican restaurants provide at least a basket or two of chips. The limited amount of tortillas was surprising and a bit disappointing. For my main dish, I ordered the only vegan burrito option. While it was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic, it was incredibly small. For $18, I expected to feel satisfied, but I would have needed at least two burritos to feel full. The vegan churros were splendid! I definitely recommend! Although the food was delicious, the portion sizes and value for money were underwhelming. If you’re planning to visit, I recommend ordering a bit more than you think you may want. It’s also a great spot for a date, thanks to its vibrant atmosphere and stylish presentation.

Google
This restaurant is overrated, especially given the amount of better and cheaper Mexican food options in Vancouver. Despite our high expectations, we were disappointed by the quality, quantity, and price of the food. Additionally, we had to wait for half an hour before being served. Though it wasn't the worst we've experienced, it certainly didn't meet our expectations, and we won't be returning. Pro: nicely presented dishes. Cons: lack of flavor and expensive.

Google
Fish, especially certain types like cod or halibut, can be more expensive than other proteins used in tacos (like beef or chicken). This cost is then passed on to the consumer. Two people easy need $100

Always a great experience here. Staff always with a smile, the music, the vibe, THE FOOD! Always my first option when it comes to a Mexican restaurant. Definitely coming back. MUST TRY THE MEZCAL & TEQUILA FLIGHTS 🤩

Yelp
We came in on a Wednesday night at 6pm and were asked if we had a reso -- we did not. They managed to get us one table but it seemed the place would be otherwise full! We were surprised! I got the Merida sunset cocktail. The mezcal brings a smokiness while the fruity notes keep it sweet and fresh. I really liked it. The roasted ceviche had fresh big pieces of fish on a crispy shell. So refreshing! Friends flight -- we liked the guac but there was nothing really special about this. Grilled shrimp- charred to perfection Mezcal flight - maybe we don't have a palate for mezcal but we didn't like and of them :(. They served it with crickets and orange slices! I tried a cricket and it was weirdly briny -- I probably wouldn't again. I got the cochinita pibil taco -- it's just a pork taco, nothing really stood out to me. The churros were soo fresh! We did not like the "lemon mezcal" dessert which oddly had avocado in it.

Yelp
Expensive, even for the lunch menu. Got the Carne Asada burrito, which was made with ribeye according to the menu. Started out great, then the Van Beef Curse struck again. Loads of chewy fat and gristle. By the way, my friend became ill after his chicken enchiladas ($2 extra for melted cheese) ... sigh.

Yelp
Now, if I have ever tasted a good mexican food, its here. The flavors have been thoughtfully put together in every single dish. Lime herb on fish oh wow! And then their chicken fritata was just tooo good. I am still dreaming about their food. In fact I want to go back and try more on their menu. They explain each dish so well because chef knows what is he doing. And ambience was perfecto. Its like a fusion of modern yet authentic. And don't miss their margaritas. I think I had three so I forgot which one but all were amazing. We went here on sunday evening after visit to a flea market. And it was easy to get the seat here. Service was super quick too.

Yelp
We came during brunch time and it wasn't very busy. We share the pico de gallo which came with a good portion of chips. We also had the enchiladas with chicken, al pastor taco and fish taco. The fish taco was my fave! Will need to try the queso fundido sometime.

Yelp
Came here Saturday night as a group of 2 around 5pm and it was already popping! I recommend getting a reservation if you're here with a bigger group or at a later time than 5pm because this place seems quite popular! The Merida sunset cocktail is bomb! Love me a mezcal cocktail and this cocktail delivered in smokiness yet fruitiness. Delicious. The Molcajete is definitely filling for two but the best part was the corn tortillas!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I didn't really expect their dishes to be all that great but I loved it! I ordered the huarache with cecina, and it was amazing. I hardly ever see cecina on menus in general so I HAD to check it out and it did not disappoint, the fact that it also had nopales blew me away. I also ordered a michelada and it was very good as well. The space itself is a little small but I think it has a good vibe. They had a DJ playing good music and overall I had a really good experience.

Yelp
In Vancouver for one night and stumbled in, absolutely delicious! Food highlight of the whole trip. Best ceviche we've ever had, followed by flavorful enchiladas and top notch margs. Friendly staff and casual but vibey environment. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
We were here last week and got recommended by a friend to visit the place. Their margaritas flights are amazing and also a great value. The restaurant was busy but the service was really good!

Yelp
We came at around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday. They told us that they needed the table by 5:30 pm and we were okay with that as we were in a hurry to see a show. We had the house michelada, quesito fundido(comes with 4 tortillas), pulled pork nachos and 2 tacos - the pollo asado and the de carne asado. The house michelada was strangely addicting. Very sour and refreshing. The quesito fundido comes piping hot and with 4 tortillas. It's super fun to eat and very satisfying for cheese lovers. The pulled pork nachos was enough to feed four. They give you lots of toppings. The pork is doused in sauce and beans. Very generous The tacos were my least favourite part of the meal. The chicken taco was somewhat dry and hard to finish. The rib eye steak was a bit better. It was balanced by the avocado mousse and refreshing salsa. Overall the restaurant was quite full when we got there but I liked the lively atmosphere. The food came fast and the servers were attentive. The price point was also appropriate for the quality of food we received. Would come back for happy hour again

Yelp
The customer service is friendly, attentive, and the food is outrageously delicious! The cheese fondue in a volcanic rock is a must try! and the corn tortillas are soo good! For dessert their churros are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Its very well done and I've always enjoyed dining here and coming out very satisfied.

Yelp
Came for Friday night drinks and had a good time! My friend and I walked in Friday night around 9:45 and was pleasantly surprised to see that they offer a late night happy hour that starts 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Score! We sat at the bar, as all the tables were full. The happy hour menu has both food and drinks, though there are definitely more options for food. I had a large dinner earlier and wasn't hungry, so I started with the Palomita ($7). It was very smooth and not bitter at all, unlike some other Palomas I've had in the past. I really enjoyed this drink. For my second drink, I went with a cocktail on their regular menu, the guava pisco sour ($14). It was light and fruity and foamy with the egg whites on top, exactly the type of cocktail I prefer. Parking here is all metered street parking. I tried to park on a nearby residential street and it was permit only for the next two blocks. Luckily the meters are free starting 10 pm!

Yelp
Pros: - tacos were really good - the place has a nice ambience with outdoor seating - horchata was delicious and light Cons: -overpriced -the amigos flight for tortillas and 4 different tips really disappointed me. They give you so much dip to share but barely any tortillas. So obviously the do that on purpose so people are forced to pay for more tortilla chips. This should be included, stop being so cheap. OR give an appropriate amount of chips. considering its $26!!! -happy hour menu changed and it's very small now

Yelp
Ordered over the phone for takeout and there were some tacos listed on their website's menu that wasn't available for ordering (namely my favourite cachete). The food was ready to go at the advised time, but it seemed like we had interrupted the front host's conversation with a customer by showing up at the door and her attitude and actions in retrieving the food and facilitating payment was painfully slow. On to the food - the burrito del norte was the best item from our order - although we split it in half so I got no beans and my partner had no guac (glad I got the guac side!) The tacos were very average and nothing to write home about. They gave us 1 quarter lime for 4 tacos and I wish there was an extra lime in there. All in all, it was just OK for us and I'd probably try another shop for tacos on the Drive.

Yelp
We went here for my husband's birthday in late September, and had an absolute blast. The food & drinks were excellent and the service was very warm and friendly, even though we were probably a bit "old" for the average diner lol. It is a lively place, with lots of gf and vegetarian options available, and they are accommodating of spice levels, which makes it a great spot for groups with divergent tastes and food issues. Overall, a fantastic, fun spot!

Yelp
Love this spot on commercial drive! Great authentic Mexican food and has a great happy hour as well. Happy hour is every day 2-5pm, Sunday to Thursday 9pm to close and Friday and Saturdays 10pm to close. The happy drinks are delicious. My go to is the palomita ($7) but the regular cocktails are fantastic too (love the pisco sours). The food is always great. I love the 3 amigos flight with guacamole, basa ceviche, octopus ceviche and pico de gallo salsa. Very fresh but can be messy to eat since they're filled to the top!
google avatar

Yelp
The drinks are a bit pricey, but look good and taste good. Got the Merida sunset. It was tasty and pretty. We got the dip flight (or whatever it's called) and it was just okay. Really good service though!

Yelp
Loved this place. Really fresh food, especially the guac. Laid back atmosphere, good service.

Yelp
This place is always busy and still they managed to squeeze us in! Great food and upbeat music make for a warm and inviting environment. He staff are friendly and helpful and gave us great suggestions for food and drinks. We had Al pastor fajitas and chicken enchiladas an flight of margaritas and Merida Sunset. It was so delicious and a really nice dinner out with my sweetie.

Yelp
Another warm day to enjoy another happy hour! La Mezcaleria is a Mexican joint on The Drive offering some solid cocktails and traditional Mexican cuisine. Service from start to finish was friendly and cheerful. They offer hand sanitizer at the door and at each socially distanced table. The food was delicious. I loved their very fresh Pico de Gallo that was enough for two to enjoy, but my favourite was the personal sized Quesito Fundido which is a molten cheese fondue served blazing hot in a stone bowl. The tacos were quite yummy as well. We preferred the De Carna Asada over the Tinga De Pollo because the latter felt a little too wet. They both were made more tasty with the accompanying habanero-pineapple sauce. You'd think it would be crazy hot, but it was mild for us. The Drive has tons of great choices for Happy Hour and it's hard to choose which one you'll visit on any given day. However, I think we'll be back again soon. I can still taste the molten cheese and I've gotta have more!

Yelp
OMG awesome service food was out if this world For a moment I thought I was in in Puerto Vallarta This place is a must words do not do this place justice it must be experienced to. Be greyly appreciated MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RESERVATIONS NO MATTER WHAT DAY IF WEEK

Yelp
Disclaimer: just rating on f&b, I would give this place 5 stars hands down! The margarita flight was super fun and tasty (and I'm not partial to margs so that's saying a lot)! For food, I had the queso fundido which was delicious!!!! It came with plenty of tortillas on the side so I was pretty stuffed after. I also tried the carnitas and chorizo tacos and they are stuffed to the brim with filling and I really do mean STUFFED! Delicious flavours and they don't cheap out on the fillings! The reason I'm knocking off a star is because of service. We showed up promptly for our 8pm reservation and there was a line outside but everyone had already put their name down on the list, so we walked in to ask about our reservation. The host told us to wait outside with the walk ins and that it didn't matter that we had a reservation which I thought was a little odd but we did. A little after 8, the host came out and told us we'd have to wait a little longer for our reservation. Now I totally get that restaurants can't always time things perfectly and I'm fine with that, but his tone throughout the whole ordeal was pretty dismissive which was kind of off putting. We ended up getting a table around 15 mins after with not much of an explanation or apology. At this point I was a little miffed but luckily the food was delicious which put me right back into a good mood!

Yelp
I'm so sad about this one. I've been wanting to pop in here for what feels like 10 years. You would think the bad reviews would have bumped to the top so I would have known to avoid it. Made a reservation about 3 weeks in advance for 12:00 since their dinners looked super busy. Showed up maybe 5 minutes early and we were seated near the kitchen entrance door in the back. It wasn't super busy when we arrived. Maybe 3 people at the bar and 3 other couples. There were flies everywhere that we spent swatting away the whole meal and the baseboards and floor were super dirty. The host took our drink order - margarita flights. Then a server came by 15 minutes later and asked if we had ordered drinks. Quite a while after our drinks arrived, the host returned and took our food order. Just a queso fundido order with salsa verde. The margarita flight is fun and a great way to try more than just one flavour. It was good food and we both enjoyed it but then we sat with empty glasses and dishes for a while. Another server or busser came by and took our food plates and then we proceeded to wait another 20 minutes before we flagged someone down to clear our glasses and ask for the bill. For the two flights and queso it was over $90! It was good food but later that day we went to 3 more Mexican places and spent less at all 3 combined... I hate complaining but this place left soooo much to be desired in every aspect that maybe this review will change someone's mind in rushing to visit.

Yelp
Great service, food and drinks! Nice ambiance too! Went for brunch and the waitress was so pleasant and went out of her way to make my experience special

Yelp
I'm a Mexican living in Van and totally love this rest. When I'm at The Drive can't help it and end up here. Their micheladas & margaritas are great. But their food, I totally love it! My fav is the Molcajete mixto mmmm, thinking about it makes me crave for it. Serves are friendly and welcoming. Definitely my go on The Drive.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this Mexican restaurant on the Drive because of their infamous cocktail flights and it definitely did not disappoint. It is a bit pricey $22 (which was more than any of our food items) but you get a good variety and it paired so well with the tacos and aguachile. The aguachile was a bit spicy which just added enough zest. It sometimes can get quite crowded in here, even on a weekday so I would recommend making reservations if you can. Reservations are made online and they do take a credit card number to secure your spot even just for two people. The only thing that I wasn't a big fan of was how crowded it got at times, and I felt there wasn't enough spacing between the tables especially further back into the restaurant. However based on their food and drinks, no complaints at all!

Dave A.

Yelp
Ordered 4 tacos (expensive I know) but requested 1 lime per taco, was it much to ask? I don't think so however they just sent 1 for the whole order. What a poor customer service. Salsas not even enough for 1 taco, Very bad experience :(
google avatar

Annette Y.

Yelp
Third time's the charm right? I actually tried to eat dinner here on two other occasions - didn't even make it into the door the first time around, the second, was seated for 45 minutes but wasn't offered bar chips and couldn't even flag down the server to ask about our food. This time around, I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was mainly empty! Came here during brunch hours on Sunday and had pretty good service. Food came out fast too (or maybe I just thought so compared to the last). Overall it was a unique experience but I didn't find anything too special or unforgettable about the food (?? I always feel kinda weird writing these reviews that go against the grain / hype). The rice that came with the enchiladas was really rock hard, I wasn't sure if that was part of the experience? And I personally found the refried beans a little too salty. The other dish I tried was the flautas de pescado, which was a little too greasy yet also dry at the same time. The fried tortilla to filling ratio was also a little lacking IMO. I didn't hate the place but personally won't be back for a typical weeknight meal. I would however recommend this place for a friend gathering given the cool drinks, atmosphere, and what looked like a killer cheese fondu (will set you back $30)!
google avatar

Yelp
The cocktails were great. The nachos were ok but the flight was really bland and definitely not worth it. The service was terrible from the moment we walked in it felt like a hostile environment and like the staff didn't want us or anyone else in there there. When we ordered or asked for water it was as if we'd offended them. It took us 30 minutes at the end of our meal to finally get a waiter to grab us our bill.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
Excellent service and the food is absolutely delicious. More traditional (and tasty) than other local Mexican dining spots, and they don't shy away from flavour. It's quite small and seating toward the windows at the front can feel a little cramped, but it wasn't noisy and we could still navigate to and from the table without tooooo much awkwardness. Definitely make a reservation, and be sure to check out the brunch menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Decent but rather expensive Mexican place along the Drive. Parking is a bit awful here. Try the side streets. The place is popular, and therefore is quite packed. We didn't have a reservation and the wait was over 1h. Yikes. The interior looks like an old diner, with the patterned floor and bare walls with vintage furniture. Staff were friendly and professional. The tacos are seriously pricey, at $7-10 each. They come with a tray thing of 3 different sauces (red, yellow, and green, like a traffic light). The yellow is actually the spiciest, and green is mildest. Taco al pastor - pork with pineapple and cilantro. Taco pescado Baja - one long piece of battered fish. Taco de pulpo - octopus tacos are definitely unique. This one is more expensive than the others. The tacos here are very tasty, but essentially I had a $25 snack. Something to keep in mind. For big eaters I would recommend eating something beforehand. Yes, I had to go for dinner after my dinner here.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch and got the huarache. It was delicious and everything was made with quality ingredients. Inside looks lovely and my mezcal cocktail was tasty and refreshing.

Yelp
Mexican foods never tire my taste buds,i can eat mexican dishes as frequent as possible and still i will enjoy and like them. Neat place, but i highly recommend to make a reservation because this place can get really busy....as in really busy.Parking is by the street a metered one but accessible by transit. Not so big stylist restaurant, that serves authentic and very well prepared dishes,a bit pricey but excellent foods, actually for me your dollar is worth of what you getting. when we came there is a small party but still we managed to get a chair near the bar, noise level is average, decors are neat and the place is well lighted, full bar with happy hour, wash room is mexicanly clean.. Servers are all friendly and very attentive, knowledgeable of what they are selling in their menus. Small servings but really superb and delish. we had the De puerco which is a pork belly fried into chicharon chips and it comes with tortillas,we tried the highly recommended Queso Fundido melted cheese and served on a volcanic rock, this one is the bomb i am loving it. we tried the de granja-de carne asada-melted cheese grilled steak with lime and avocado mouse, tinga pollo which is obiously chicken and de pas tor asado and the famous guacamole and chips, we had some mexican non-alcoholic drinks. Good for family, group and kids, accept cash/credit/debit sumtotal we had fun, great mexican delicacies plus excellent service, now my new fave taco place in town.i cant wait for my next visit

Yelp
Had brunch here with the hubby on a Sunday and we were able to get a table immediately. We both ordered their orange juice which was great. To start, we had their tacos and guacamole. Tacos were crisp and thin while the guac was chunky and tasty. For our mains, we ordered the hash bacon benny and huervos divorciados. My hash bacon benny has eggs that were overcooked. I was hoping for a poached egg where the yolk would ooze out but then I got a medium boiled egg. I didn't complain since I wouldn't want to waste food. The dish itself was a bit under seasoned and was lacking in something. The huervos divorciados was tasty according to my husband. Overall, it was quite a pricey brunch on Commercial Drive. Our bill amounted to $50+ before tips.

Yelp
Real Mexican Food. Delicious. Good prices. Great service. Can't wait to go back! Tip: order the carnitas plate as an appetizer.

Yelp
WOW! Queso Fundido! I am obsessed. This is possibly the best fondue I have ever had, and I was not expecting that at a Mexican restaurant. I am so glad to have been taken here by my partner. We indulged in the Fondue and both had two respective meals. I was totally stuffed after the fondue however, as it comes with a bowl of excellent, hand-pressed tortillas to dip. I can't wait to return to this place just for that stone bowl fondue... I had two tacos, Pescado and Pulpo, which were a hefty size. Both were very high quality and delicious. The pulpo taco was a bit too eclectic for me and so I think I will switch it up next time, however it was still very enjoyable. I was lucky enough to sit on the patio as there is only a couple tables, however the interior is very nice, but very cramped. I would recommend to call ahead to see if the patio is available as we arrived there right after it opened and it had filled up after only about 15 minutes.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Saturday. We did make reservations via phone and really glad we did! The restaurant is super small and narrow. The bar takes up the entire middle with only a small walking space shared by the servers computer station. Highly recommend reservations! We had heard good things about their HH which is why we came. Oddly they don't offer a regular Margarita on their HH menu which is really all I wanted. It was definitely worth it and had a great balance of tequila and sour mix. The size was a little smaller than I anticipated for the price, but ultimately you go to Mexican for margs right?! The palomita is on HH and my boyfriend ordered one and wasn't too impressed, ordered a Margarita the second round. We got the quesito and pico to start. The quesito is to die for! It came out bubbling in the stone dish, topped with green salsa, and served with tortillas. We actually used the chips that came with the pico instead. My boyfriend order the pollo and carne Asada tacos (2/$12 on HH). He said both were full of flavor and delicious; preferred the pollo though. Since I'm a pescatarian I was a little shocked they didn't offer a seafood option for HH. They do have quite a selection for vegetarians and I did get one rajas which was good. Because of all the simmered veggies the taco got "watered" down and shell fell apart since I didn't inhale it. The fish taco was extra and totally worth it!! This is a huge piece of fish on one taco, served with cabbage and a Mayo sauce. It wasn't overly sauced which made it even better. You had the crispy breading, soft tortilla shell and creamy Mayo which made for a great taco over all. Overall a good authentic Mexican place. Again, really small, very few bar seats and can imagine it being packed on a Friday/Saturday night.

Yelp
As a Mexican I can say that is the best place in Vancouver to have good tacos, burritos, guacamole, empanadas and mezcal

Layla B.

Yelp
Drinks are good but overpriced. Food is dry and not fresh or worth the price. That wasn't even a problem for me as I was just trying to enjoy time with my company. But, the worst service I've experienced. I don't like writing reviews if negative but steer clear unless you want to be insulted, treated poorly and overcharged
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
I really like it here. I love the vibe and the foods delicious...But .. I just can't get over the prices for some of the stuff on the menu. I mean I get it.. we live in an expensive city but $28 for some veggie tacos? Everything comes super quickly too which makes the experience go by fast for the amount of money you're spending.

Yelp
Stopped by while visiting Vancouver and loved it! Started off with a shot and beer, then had aguachiles, tacos, and finished off with churros with ice cream. It was beyond delicious! The waitress was also so accommodating. Definitely recommend this place

Yelp
The place was.busy therefore my date and I was seated at the bar and we had a great experience. The bartender was on point. He knew his food menu & drink menu like the back of his hand. The food was great, the drinks were great & the bartender was informative, friendly, entertaining & he really knew the Mexican culture food & tequila/mezcal industry. Between the two of us (and she was driving so only had 1 alcoholic drinks), the bill came to $148 before a tip. The two dishes (appetizer & entreé) we ordered were shared between the two of us. With that said, the bartender we sat in front of made the experience well worth it. So much so that my date and I have talked about coming back on one of his working days and without a vehicle simply to enjoy great good & awesome drinks.

Yelp
I'm sad to have to post this review but it's important to know which restaurants are taking adequate precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was clear last night that La Mezcaleria was unconcerned about the safety of their employees, nor their diners. Clearly Vancouver has been impacted differently than the rest of Canada, but there are still active cases, and new infections every day. It's important to take it seriously given that many folks are immunocompromised. Booked a reservation about three weeks ago, and when we got there, about 3 minutes early, the person working the door couldn't find our reservation. This was concerning because we'd paid a $50 deposit. Showed her the confirmation on my partner's phone and she was able to find it, but said it had been cancelled. She seated us promptly but we were dismayed that the table behind us had a diner seated about 2 feet away, and to the left there was a diner about 3 feet away. The restaurant was crammed. They were taking walk ins, and while the picture on the website showed lots of distancing between tables, this was absolutely not the case. We contemplated leaving, and advised the server as such. Against our better judgement, we decided to stay. The servers did not have adequate room to move between tables safely, and it was so loud he had to lean over the table to communicate with us face to face, under a foot away. Our server was great. He had a mask protecting diners, but at such a close proximity, he was unprotected from diners himself. There are clearly labour issues here but the restaurant seems to value profit over the safety of its people. The food was good but not good enough to compromise our safety, and the safety of the staff. You wouldn't think that there was a global pandemic looking at the inside of this packed restaurant.

Yelp
Omg, this place is delicious! An old friend and I reconnected and he took me here. Upon entry, this place was small, we had to wait. We ordered amigos flight, ceviche callejero, some chocolate dish, and of course, the con champinones. Amigos flight Three dips: octopus ceviche, guacamole and pico de gallo. This was served with chips. This was good. I liked that there was a variety! Ceviche callejero Seasonal fish cured in lime with tomati, onions, jalepeno and cilantro, also served with chips. Omg this was SO good. This definetly outshines the amigos flight Con champinones (queso fundido) Molten cheese fondue with mushrooms served in a volcanic stone bowl! This came with soft corn tortillas. Holy smokes, this was AMAZING. This place is definetly known for their cheesebowl! This is a must order!!! My favorite!! We also some chocolate meat dish where I can seem to find on the menu. I will attach a picture. Wasn't very memorable for me as it wasn't really suited for my tastebuds. This was definetly not comparable to any of the other foods that we ordered and this took the longest to serve. I wouldn't recommend it. This place is great. I would definetly come back again and order the mushroom cheesebowl and ceviche callejero. I will also order something else. It was VERY filling and I left super happy and satisfied.

Yelp
I ordered from here through skip the dishes. I had the white fish ceviche ($14.95) and house made corn chips that came with a choice of dip ($10.95). I chose verde, but there's the option of salsa roja and pica de galle. I also ordered some extra salsa for $5.00. This included freshly cut tomatoes n onions, as well as some pineapple salsa and extra pica salsa. It all hit the spot. I look forward to trying some more of their tacos and their burritos. There are a lot of options.

Yelp
I'm definitely a fan of La Mezcaleria. There are a few things that need improvement, but for the items that are done well, they are repeat orders for sure. Staff - Friendly, knowledgeable and generally happy people Food I love here: QUESO FUNDIDO (Mezcaleria´s famous molten cheese fondue served in a volcanic rock molcajete with mushrooms) - Felt like a pound of melted cheese with tons of sautéed mushrooms. So, so good to the last spoon. Even the crusted bits at the end were heaven. GUACAMOLE - Freshly made with the right amount of lime, cliantro, onion, jalapeño and tomato MIXIOTE DE SALMON (King salmon with rice, zucchini and sweet corn, wrapped in banana leaf and steamed) - This was served with cilantro, rice, creama and crispy salmon skin. Quite possibly my favorite item on the menu. Salmon was not overcooked in the slightest, rice was fragrant and when combined with the zucchini and crispy skin, the texture was unmatched. Loved every bite till the very end. Needs Improvement: DE CACHETE (Braised beef cheeks Taco) - would have preferred this a little less salty ATUN (Seared yellow fin tuna with wasabi mayo, chili ponzu, cabbage, cilantro) - inconsistent as my order was done perfectly, but my friend's was drenched in too much sauce.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite restaurants in the area (and there are many!) from the funky decor to the friendly staff La Mezcaleria gives a good impression from the moment you walk in. I always feel like I could be in some nice hipster cafe on the streets of Guadalajara when I'm here. Now the food - what can I say? Sabrosisima! Super delicious! I highly recommend the chilaquiles (best in Vancouver that we've found) and my kiddo says that people should try the Alambres Be aware. Hours posted on Yelp are wrong. Call to confirm actual hours.
