TLDR: 5/5 stars. Authentic Italian cuisine prepared by real Italian mammas with exceptional attention to seasoning and flavor. The cacio e pepe is truly outstanding, and the warm, festive atmosphere makes every visit feel special. A bit pricey but absolutely worth it for the quality and experience.
Walking through the stunning pink bougainvillea-framed entrance of La Mia Mamma on Hollywood Road feels like being transported straight to Italy. This unique restaurant concept brings authentic Italian home cooking to London by having actual Italian mothers ("mammas") running the kitchen and sharing regional recipes from their homes.
Food
The food is simply exceptional. The cacio e pepe is creamy, indulgent, and deserving of its reputation as "one of the best in London." The fried fish fingers are outrageously tasty with perfectly flaky fish and spot-on seasoning. Every dish comes perfectly seasoned - nothing needs additional salt or pepper, a true mark of quality cooking.
The roasted chicken with potatoes is a standout, with crispy-outside, fluffy-inside potatoes that are "to die for." Even simple bean dishes are packed with flavor and satisfying when mopped up with their fresh-baked bread. From the antipasti platters with cured meats and cheeses to the hearty meat stews, everything tastes genuinely homemade and prepared with care.
The dessert selection, including tiramisu and various Italian pastries, provides a perfect sweet ending to the meal.
Atmosphere
The rustic interior with stone archways, wooden tables, and warm lighting creates a cozy, intimate setting that feels like dining in someone's home in Italy. The restaurant has a lively, authentic atmosphere with a constant buzz of conversation and activity.
Birthday celebrations are particularly special at La Mia Mamma. Staff enthusiastically join in with singing and playing instruments, creating a festive vibe that elevates the whole occasion - exactly what you'd expect from a place that treats guests like family.
Service
The service is warm, personable, and attentive. Regular guests develop friendly relationships with the staff, which enhances the experience. Everyone is treated with genuine hospitality, making you feel less like a customer and more like a welcomed guest in an Italian home.
Value
While prices might be on the higher side, the quality, portion sizes, and overall experience make it worthwhile. The restaurant's unique concept, central London location, and the authenticity of having real Italian mammas cooking for you justifies the premium.
